Web pages taking forever to load or not loading at all

Q: Web pages taking forever to load or not loading at all

Could I possibly be infected? I am having problems with accessing any and all webpages. At first, I thought it was just a Mozilla issue, but the same problems occur in Google Chrome and IE. I will type in a URL and press enter and sometimes it will take forever to load, and if I click on the link again, it will bring it up instantly. It seems as if it is stalling. And other times, if I click on the link for a second time, it will say "done" on the bottom left hand side, but it will certainly not be done! I have been having this problem for weeks now and it is driving me crazy!
I have run Spybot, Adaware, Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes, my AVG antivirus scan, and the free Symantec one on the website. Nothing has been found wrong!
I tried restoring my computer to 4 different restore points but they were all unsuccessful.
I tried uninstalling Zone Alarm, thinking that was causing the problem, but nothing changed. I had k9 web protection on my computer, but uninstalled it weeks ago and I am still having problems. I have the same problem running my wireless or using an ethernet cable; on my network and at a friend's house.
Please help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Thanks for your help...

A:IE 9 taking forever to load web pages

Have you tried reconnecting your router, perhaps the problem could lie in your internet rather than your browser. Also try downloading another browser (like google chrome) and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise just re-install IE9 and see if it helps.

Hope you get it running--Gilroy

IE is taking a long time to load pages. For the heck of it I installed Netscape to see if it was that slow there too and its not. Netscape loads the pages almost instantly. For example, when I input ebay.com it takes IE close to a minute to display the page where Netscape only took 5 seconds.

Whats up?

Plus, when I try to access the Help and Support in Windows XP it takes forever to load.

Any ideas?

Hi guys. I'm having some wierd problems with firefox. I don't recall/remember these ever happening when i first used it. But I notice that in forums, for example, if one image is repeated multiple times, it will actually go through the trouble of loading each one, one by one.

In internet explorer 6 and Opera, the very same pages load HELLA fast.

I have a Cable internet connection (by timewarner/roadrunner)

I'm PRETTY sure it was never like this before. Any ideas?

That's an old version of HiJackThis that was released long before Windows 7 was released.

Uninstall it and then replace it with HiJackThis 2.0.4.

--------------------------------------------------------

If you go to Control Panel - User Accounts, then change the UAC setting to "Never Notify", then restart the computer, HiJackThis will work properly without displaying a warning message.

On all browsers my pages will not load most of the time or may start but freeze shortly after. It is also taking forever for the browser itself to load. Chrome seems to be the worst. In my previous post after running a program and reboot I got a floating box "Input Not Supported" box that bounces around the screen like a screensaver and stays on top of everything else. I also noticed I keep hearing clicking noises from the speakers also. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi everyone,

I've been having major problems with my laptop since I first got it last March - I'm pretty sure I got screwed with a laptop from a defective batch. I have a Toshiba Satellite L750, Windows 7, 64-bit, with 6GB of RAM.

Little bit of background:
Last year I had issues with my sound within a couple months of getting the laptop, but I was able to fix that problem by calling Toshiba Support. But last December (right before all my finals were due -_-), my laptop just committed suicide. The hard drive totally died on me out of the blue. I got a computer-savvy friend to replace my hard drive with a new one. Everything was working fine at first, but within a week my laptop ate that hard drive up too. It was bizarre, to say the least. So I went back home for the holidays and since my laptop was still under warranty then (it's not now), Toshiba replaced my hard drive, reinstalled Windows, etc. This was in January - things were fine, but it's now May and everything is messed up again.

Basically everything takes forever to load or it doesn't load at all. By everything, I mean the desktop, taskbar, programs, internet, user accounts... sometimes Windows won't even load. Even if I boot in Safe Mode, things work, but they still take a little longer than usual. Even just logging into my user account in Safe Mode takes a minute.

And this all happened, once again, out of the blue. One day my laptop was working fine, the next day it wouldn't load any... Read more

Hello,
I've got two main issues with my PC.
It takes FOREVER to restart, when I get to the welcome screen it takes the best part of 10 minutes to get to the point where I click on my name so that it can load the main windows interface (this in itself is a bug-bear as I'm the only person who uses the PC so why can't it just skip this step and go straight to windows?)
Secondly, once windows has loaded it takes AGES for anything to load up, especially firefox. MSN messenger seemed to make the system hang so I tried removing this and reinstalling but it's still doing the same thing.

Have run spybot, adaware, registry fixer, and carried out a virus check with AVG. I've also defragmented the hard drives (windows is on C drive, everything else is on D drive) and this hasn't really resulted in an noticeable difference. After looking at the task manager when windows is loading the SVCHOST.exe file seems to be hogging about 99% of the system resources. Once this process is closed down the system works a lot faster, but I lose sound and other abilities within windows.

Windows XP SP2
C drive for windows
D drive for everything else
2gb RAM

My boot up time is okay and everything but when I get to the actual screen after signing in, everything slows down and starts freezing. I've looked at YouTube to increase computer speed and all that but nothing has worked. Something that I think has caused a lot of this is when Skype always automatically starts up and I can't close out of it because my computer always freezes. Is there anyway I can bypass all this just to make it where I can't get rid of Skype? I'm just having issues getting past my home screen and into any application.

Hi,

After my wife inadvertantly clicked on an unknown e-mail attachment, I have been expriencing ongoing problems with my PC.  The first issue was that when clicking on IE, the home-page was/is taking upwards of 3 minutes to load.  An error message is being generated stating 'The webpage is not responding - Recover webpage'.  I am finally able to launch the page, and any pages after this launch immediately when clicked.
Further to this, I realised that there was also an issue with Adobe Reader.  Deciding that I would simply re-install it, I uninstalled using 'add/remove' in the Control Panel, but when I attempted to re-install it, no matter how I tried, I just couldn't.  If I choose the 'save' option, then attempt to run the .exe file from the 'Downloads' folder, the .exe file disappears (to the C:\Users\Lee\AppData\Local\temp folder). If I try to launch it from the 'temp' folder, I can see that it's running in the Task Manager, but the install prompt screen never shows.  I have also attempted to install whilst in Safe Mode (with networking), but am then informed that the 'Windows Installer isn't running'.  Attempting to start Windows Installer up in Safe Mode (with networking) generates an error message stating... Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice. I have a PC from mesh, its Intel Pentium D80 Dual Core, with ASUS P5b-TMX motherboard. I've had the PC for just over a year...

I've been having problems with Windows XP starting up, it stays on the Windows XP screen (with the blue bar at the bottom) for up to 10 minutes, then just resets and the process continues for sometimes up to an hour before it eventually loads. Some times take longer than others, doesn't seem to be consistent. Once loaded all is fine.

I have reinstalled Windows countless times using the recovery CD. After the most recent install I purposely installed only a few bits of software, MSN etc, nothing weird or that I didn't have before....but its still happening.

I'm not sure how to go about analyzing the problem, I enabled boot logging and I have a log which shows 10 drivers did not load... also looked at Event Viewer and seems to have quite a few errors, mostly "disk" - does this mean the hard-drives worn out? to be honest, i'm a complete n00b and have nooooo idea what to do or where to start...drivers? hardware? I don't know!

Any advice offered (in relatively simple terms! ) would be very much appreciated

Thanks

I had thought this was resolved but it is not. I have two Google accounts.....one of them opens right away, but the other one hangs forever--sometimes a minute or longer-- before finally opening up. Exasperating. Before, it was my "work" account that took forever; now, it's the "personal" account. No idea what to do.

My PC boots up in 10-15 seconds, but then it sits at my desktop with everything functional for about 10-15 minutes before my startup items (Battle.net, Spotify, DNSCrypt, etc.) actually start loading up. Even after the items have loaded up, Windows Update continues to tell me that the service is not loaded and that I should reboot. I have downloaded the .zip from the forums including all the default services reg files, ran them all to return to default, even ran Tweaking.com Windows Repair, still the same issue.

Hello,

I'm having problems with what seem to be affecting all the browsers I use (Opera, IE, Chrome, Firefox). Most pages seem to load normally, but in many cases, when I click a link, it can take up to nearly a full minute to load. Sometimes I can re-click the link and it will load...but usually the browser will continue to think and think and think. We run a full scan every Friday and nothing comes up. I've cleared caches and and histories and such...but to no avail. Per the suggestion if bleepingcomputer, I ran a scandisk but it appeared nothing was wrong. Is there any hope for browsing normalcy for me?

Thank you,

I tested Mozilla and it works just fine.

For Google Chrome I did the following but it did not help:

Follow these steps to change your proxy setting (for Windows):
Click the Tools menu.
Select Options.
Click the Under the Hood tab.
In the "Network" section, click Change proxy settings. This will open the Internet Properties dialog.
Click LAN settings .
Deselect the "Automatically detect settings" checkbox.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Try this;

Go to Control Panel and select Internet Options OR select the Gear icon from inside Internet Explorer and select Internet Options

Select the General tab and in the Browsing history section select the Delete button.

Now go to the Advanced tab, select Restore advanced settings and Reset, then press OK and restart your computer.

If you do not see a speed increase, try updating Flash:

If you still don't notice a difference, your web browser have an extension slowing the games down.

Hi guys, this is my first post here and lately I've been encountering some weird problems. Lately, Windows XP has been taking 2 minutes to rach my desktop and 4 minutes to load all my icons and taskbar. I thought it was some registry error so I ran CCleaner. I also ran Avanced System Care Pro 5. Rebotted. Still happening. Tried to run MBAM, but after hitting "scan", Mbam quit itself. Thought I had a virus. I did, 154 of them. Found them by running into safemode and scanning using Super Anti-Spyware. (Mbam still doesn't work, I renamed the exe, uninstalled/reinstalled, updated...no dice) After removing the viruses, I rebooted again. Still taking long. Ran Kaspersky's Anti rookit killer. Found nothing. Unchecked some unnecessary programs to run at startup in MSconfig. Still nothing. Googled some more, found out it could be explorer.exe being corrupt. Went to the HKEY something and found there was a missing value for "Shell", so I put explorer.exe in the value. Rebooted. Nothing, again. Did a system restore. Nada. Googled again. Found out it could be a corrupt user profile. Created a new user account. When I first created the first user account, everything loaded immediatley. Transferred all my prefences and import data onto my new account. After reboot, the same problem happened AGAIN Then I ran a HiJackThis scan and got a log, which is right here:

So I decide to go to CCleaner and due a daily sweep of useless information when it takes 10 minutes more than it usually does to clean, so I look at what it erased and there were hundreds of little temporary files from internet explorer (somebody else in the household uses it because they don't listen), however I looked at my HJT log to see if anything unusual was there, and it was just the same as every other day.

What operating system are you using? I'm assuming Windows, but is it XP or Vista or something else?

Hello,
I am having problems with loading almost all webpages. At first I thought it wmay just be a problem with Mozilla issue but the same problems occur in IE. Almost every time I try to access a webpage (except Google search page strangely) it will take forever to load and I am constantly finding I have to refresh (F5) a page to load it. I also sometimes get the "done" message at the bottom of the window and the webpage is only half loaded usually with images or pictures missing.
I have run my Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus scan but nothing has been found wrong

I also have problems updating iTunes (i get a generic error saying the update couldn't be completed) and there are certain things I can't download at all like Malwarebyte or free Adobe reader, I get errors about renaming file directories.

Please help!

Hey, its been a while now since I've been having these problems. So I've fianlly decided to post on a forum and ask for help!

I have windows xp sp2 on a dual core p4 3.06 Ghz processor, 504MB of ram.

My computer used to work perfectly well before all of a sudden these problems started occurring. I have formatted my windows a hundred times but after a couple of days, the problems arise again.

Okay so to start with, my windows is taking forever to load. Once it loads, the windows introductory sound skips and glitches as it is with all the other music i play with itunes or any other software. When I play a video, the video also skips and makes weird sounds. My computer is being very slow with everything. When I open the task manager, I see the CPU usage varying constantly from 0 to 16 upto 70 percent, even when the windows is idle and system idle process is at a constant 98 percent. The system image is using 75000k plus memory (I thought it might be important in some way so I've mentioned it).

All this is really annoying. Is it a virus/malware or something? I have AVG anti-virus and everybody has told me its pretty good. Or is it a hardware problem with RAM or whatever. Please help me I'm clueless and I really don't want to reformat my windows AGAIN!

So i got this Dell Laptop to fix...weird thing is

it will be stuck on the load-up screen for 15-20 minutes or more, then logging in will take another 10-15 minutes...

I tried looking into the system configuration through msconfig

disabled most of the startup programs down to the two most important ones
also played around with the "system services", but no luck...both will still startup the laptop really slow...

it has a 1gb ram and all updates/drivers are installed...

i also tried swapping the hdd with another laptop, still the same thing. I do not suspect it to be a bad hdd

but even after swapping the hdd, it will still take a very long time to load up and login....

occasionally the explorer.exe will shoot up to 50% CPU usage without me doing anything...

i believe these two are related in some way...

any ideas...thanks in advance

Hi newbie here so go easy on me

My mum has a realtively newly built PC (about 2 weeks old), and has XP Professional installed along with Norton Antivirus 2003.

She is using dial-up internet with an external modem, and although her default homepage (bbc) loads straight away after that browsing becomes progressively slower and slower. Some pages do not load up at all after a while and she is forced to turn off her connection and try again. She cannot access any secure sites at all (for her internet banking and buying things). She has cleared her cache to no avail.

I have been told to see if a firewall is blocking secure ports 443, 84 and/or 8443. I'm not sure how to check that? I'm not even sure she has a firewall installed at all?

Should she try Mozilla Firefox? Should I install Norton?

I've checked her dialup internet provided (lineone/tiscali) and there appears to be no problems?

I use Win10 on a fast broadband connection (100Mbps) will lowish ping rates.

I notice that more and more web sites are taking a long time to finish loading. They start very fast indeed, but are incomplete and it can take up to a minute before the screen has finished jumping around as it re-renders itself. This appears to be caused by the site pulling-in images from third party sites, especially for adverts.

This has become a real inconvenience. Is this the fault of the website developer? Is there a better way of feeding-in these third part elements? Is there anything I can do my end to improve this?

I am on a 4G connection and someone suggested I change a buffer setting on the router? Anyone comment on that?

The last week or so I noticed that my system seems to have slowed way down in regard to Internet use. It seems pages take forever to upload. Sometimes it just hangs. It doesn't matter whether I'm using Firefox or IE. Offline functions such as using Word or Encarta do not seem to be affected. I did all the usual things like updating and running CW Shredder, AdAware and SptBot which did not find any significant problems. I also ran a scan disk and defragged the hard drive. I also unplugged the modem and turned off the power to the computer so I could do a real cold boot. Nothing seems to improve the performance. I have recently installed Firefox 2.0.0.5. I had no problems before this when I was using Firefox 1.0.7. My system is using Windows 98se as an OS and has a 256 MB RAM with an 800 MHz Pentium III processor. I also have EZArmor installed which is an anti-virus and firewall package. Any ideas on how to improve the speed of Internet browsing?

Hi there,

I have this new problem which has started when surfing the web.

I have a 1.1m broadband and while attempting to look at web pages it takes a very very very long time to download them. It has taken me 5mins just to get to this site alone.

I have a program which came with my modem to tell me how much bandwidth i am using and i am only dl 220k max, so there doesnt seem to be another program using my bandwidth.

Something is stopping me from viewing pages at a reasonable speed can anyone tell me what it is? I have deleted all my temp files but that has had no cure. Is it just a simple setting or worse?

I have added a hjt log below

Thanks Phil

I have no idea as to why my computer has all of a sudden decided it would be slow, but for some reason it has. I have ran the normal things (i.e., Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Norton's) but still running extremely slow. I have DSL and have never had any problems in the two years running it, but now something is wrong. My HJT log is as follows, and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, hope I am posting this on the right page, my husband would normally post here so you have me instead. We have a Dell Dimension 9150 which is taking ages to load a web page. We did everything on the list here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...l=slow+computer and it still is going slow. I have tried to restore the computer on different dates and it is saying that it is unsuccessful. Can you please help me and please speak to me as though I am dumb, not computer literate. ThanksNichola

As the title says bringing up a YouTube page doesn't load all thumbnails including my own in the top left and users/videos ones. Page looks like this:

This happens in Chrome and Firefox. It started about a week ago apparently when some script froze and I forced it to stop running. It's really annoying since it usually stops comments loading and videos too sometimes. I did try wiping everything and reinstalling FF if you're wondering.

Sorry if this is the wrong subforum to post in, not sure where else to post.

A:Youtube doesn't load tumbdnails, keeps loading forever

bump.

I looked more into this and it doesnt seem browser related, some kind of Youtube script doesnt work, maybe flash player is bugged?

My problem is windows 7 takes a long time to go past the welcome loading screen when it's loading the OS. (FYI- Win7 came preloaded when I purchased my laptop)It takes about 5-10 mins to finally load onto desktop.Never took so long before up until last night.Once at the desktop...I can't open my programs like normal each time it freezes/lags/slow as molasses if you will .Then I'm able to open up a program and it continues...Sometimes the screen blacks out and never returns so I reboot.Whatever trojan/virus is present manages to disable McAfee protection each time I start up.I would have to go in and enable it each time I'm logged on.Steps I've taken:***I've tried booting up via safe mode (same thing happens).***I've ran the startup repair (could not detect a problem).***I've Cleared out my temp files.***I've Defrag my laptop.***I've ran spybot search & destroy(found the following Doubleclick,Win32.Agent.ws,Zedo)***I've done a system restore to a point where my laptop worked like charm.***I've ran full MBAM (safe mode) scan results...(no malicious viruses detected).***I've ran full McAfee (safe mode) scan results( no viruses found).I wanted to see what could be done first, before I attempt a system recovery which is at the bottom of my totem pole, don't want to lose my data. Please Advise & Your Assistance would be greatly appreciated!

If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep.
