I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a problem with the pointer device on my laptop.e.g. It happens when trying to log in to a site- it doesn't matter which one. Letís suppose that itís an email site - it allows me to input my name and password but then the Enter button on the site appears dead, the pointer does not activate when it hovers. Resizing the window and moving it so that the Enter button is now in a different part of the screen, and now it works.... This is the part that drives me crazy! If I resize and move the reduced window to the bottom right hand corner of the screen - then the pointer becomes active again. I can access the part of the site that I previously couldn't. It takes a long time to do anything, constantly resizing. Sometimes I just give up. The pointer just does not appear to recognise links. Or even allow me to fill in an online form, for example. The problem is the same whether I use the touchpad or the mouse.I had a look at some of the Microsoft forum sites and there was a suggestion that Windows Vista worked better with the pointer selections in the control panel set at 'none' and 'normal'. I've done this but it hasn't made any difference. Iíve also downloaded new drivers for the pointing device. Oh and strangest of all, this is intermittent. I may open up one day To find that everything is normal. And then next time it's as bad as ever. The problem occurs offline as well.Does anyone one have any ideas or suggestions? Any at all ... Hello,
I have a compaq presario v2000 laptop with a synaptics touchpad v5.10 pointing device. I use windows XP pro. I just recently had an new hard drive installed and since I got my computer back from best buy, I have been having problems with the touchpad. It seems my settings are not being saved when I shutdown the computer. Upon booting up the computer I have to go into control panel, click on the mouse setting and manually put in the settings. I do this by clicking on Device Settings then I have to click reset devices.

Also, after I have reset the touchpad settings there is a synaptics icon on the task bar in the right hand corner. When I reboot the computer the Icon is gone. If I go into task bar and start menu properties, and click hide inactive icons then click customize, synaptics pointing device is under current items and set to always show. When I reboot the computer, the icon is no longer under the current items list.

How do I get my computer to save my changes after shuting down the computer. In the past settings were always saved and the synaptics icon was always on the task bar.

Thank you

A:Synaptics Pointing Device

After reinstalling the synaptics driver from the driver recovery disk the synaptics icon appears in the task bar and the settings are saved upon rebooting the computer. The touchpad works as it should in several windows apps and explorer browser. However, the scroll feature does not work in mozilla firefox and opera 8.51 browsers. In mozilla, I get the scroll bar icon by the mouse when I hold down the touchpad but it won't scroll up or down. Any thoughts?

A:synaptics pointing device driver?

The pointing device driver...allows notebook users to use that small area on the laptop...in the same way that some use a mouse.

Me, I prefer a mouse. Sooo...if I remove mine from my laptop, there's no impact. If I used that area on the laptop, I would not remove the drivers for it, unless I thought that the drivers were damaged and needed to be replaced.

Chances are, replacement drivers are available for download at the website of the laptop manufacturer.

HI all, I know I don't post on these Forums much like I do on the Windows 7 Forums, but anyhow I just upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro and I am currently working on getting all of the updates installed, but while the updates are installing and I am doing other things, I am having some issues with my touchpad not wanting to respond and freezing up, when it does this I know it has nothing to do with the actual PC itself as I am able to hit the Windows Button and it takes me back to the start screen, but yet the touchpad is still frozen, I have been trying everything to keep it from freezing and I just don't know what to do, the driver itself is all up to date and everything, so if somebody can give me some advice with this issue that would be greatly appreciated, thank you and have a good night

A:Synaptics Pointing Device Driver

Sound like the driver may not be properly installed. First check Device Manager to see if it's working OK (Start...Run...type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. See if the device has a red x or yellow ! by it.

You can go to the HP site and download updated drivers for the touchpad if need be.

Then, check in Control Panel for the Mouse or Pointing Device option - then open it to see if the rest of the software is functioning correctly.

Finally, ensure that any switches that may enable this are turned on (there may not be a switch - I'm unsure about HP laptops). But I had a similar problem with a touchpad that took 2 hours to solve - and all it was was that the switch was off!

A:Synaptics pointing device freezes

Is it a wireless mouse, if so check the batteries.

If it is chorded try another mouse and see if the problems persists.

Check these settings:

Go to the Control Panel and select Mouse. From the mouse properties screen click the Hardware tab. on the next screen under the Genral tab click on Change Settings. Then select the Power Management tab and make sure it is set to "Allow this device to wake the computer" and not "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

This is correct instruction for Windows 7, if you have a different OS (which you should have stated) there may be some minor differences.

Our touch pad mouse clicks, even though we don't touch it at all. I called Toshiba long ago and found out that this problem is pretty incurable so we got an external mouse, and I disabled the Synaptics mouse. Now it's clicking again, even though I thought it's disabled and when I try to use Control Panel to check to see if the Synaptics mouse is still disabled, the dialogue box stops responding when I click on the Device Settings tab. Then when I click on the X to close the dialogue box, a message pops which says, "Windows shell common dll not responding."

What should I do to solve this problem?

The pointing device in question is the touchpad and the left and right clicking buttons on your laptop so it's probably better to go to the manufacturer's site and find the right driver.

Hi,

the Synaptics Pointing Device is not working on my Thinkpad Yoga 12. Suddenly during operation the mouse and the trackpoint stop working.
I tryed to install a new driver and even install Windows 10 again. During the instalation, no mouse was available. An external USB mouse works without problems.

If i search for the Synaptics Pointing Device in the device manager of windows, the mouse is displayed with the error code 24: "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed".

It is possible, that the mechanism for screen flipping disabled the Pointing device?
Or is it possible to deactivate the Pointing device with a secret key combination?

Thanks

Hi there, new user here.

My Synaptics Pointing Device Driver is malfunctioning and I need to uninstall it. However, when I try to do so I get an error message telling me I must be an administrator to do so and to "please log off and log back on as administrator". I am already the administrator of my user account, but after some googling I found out I could enable a "true" administrator account of Windows 8.1 by doing
Code:
net user administrator /active:yes

and logging on to the now unlocked "true" administrator account.
After doing this I still get the same error. I've tried running control.exe as administrator but no luck there either. I've tried reinstalling the driver as well, which completes without errors, but nothing changes. Any help here?

I'm puzzled as to how it's even possible to create a third party application that defies the highest administrative level of windows 8.1. It seems like malware pushers should take some pointers from synaptics...

Hey guys,
I'm having problems with the Synpatics Touchpad driver. When I install it, it works great (except for the left-edge-swipe but that's a known problem) but after some time using it, I will eventually get this error. Every single time I installed this driver, I get the error a few days later. When I choose to uninstall it and reboot, my touchpad and keyboard don't work so it uninstalled the whole driver and didn't even use generic Windows 8 touchpad drivers. Then I have to plug in an external mouse for me to be able to reinstall the driver from my desktop. Then I reboot and everything works again but eventually I will get the error again. Now I got the error again and I'm sick of it! Is there a way to fix it? I downloaded the driver from here Drivers | Synaptics and I choose the first one for Windows 8. I know that using HP drivers for my laptop (HP Pavilion DV7-1130eg) could be a better option but they are from 2009 or so, and they don't have the edge swipe gestures for Windows 8 (that lower the pain of the UI-formely-known-as-metro lol). I tryed to let Windows "update" the driver from the device manager (although I knew I was using the latest one) and it downgraded it to a 2011 driver. If I didn't want it, uninstalled and installed the newest one, it was the new one the first time I open it, and the second time I opened it, it reverted back to the 2011 driver (I had BSoD problems in that time that were caused be someting else, so I reinstalled whole Windows... Though there are many things I like about it, I have multiple issues with the Synaptics pointing device. 1. Most serious is that it forgets its configuration every time I shut down or restart the PC.  Reconfiguring it the way I want  every time is way too big of a hassle.  Is there a way to fix this?  If not, is it known where it keeps its configuration info?  I might be able to save its desired state and create a script to restore it automatically. 2. The last 2 issues stem from lack of physical mouse buttons.  With a mouse you can do a double click left mouse button drag to select consecutive words (as opposed to characters).  Since tap-down-drag for the touchpad means regular left mouse drag, I would have thought that tap-tap-down-drag would do it, but no.  Is there any way to get word-selection drag with the device? 3. Is there a reliable way to get right mouse drag to work.  It can sort of be done.  I have 2-finger click set for right mouse.  If I press down with 2 fingers and keep the switch closed while I drag, it works.  But this is very difficult to do.  The amount of force required to keep the switch closed makes it extremely difficult to slide the fingers (or one of them) for the drag.  It is so difficult to do reliably that I have given up trying.  I miss the function for mouse gestures in Firefox and Chrome which I use extensively on my desktop.  (I also have wireless S... Okay, so I'm having issues with disabling Palm Tracking with Synaptics pointing device.
I've browsed over the internet for ages, looking at different tutorials with similar solutions. The one problem I'm having is that they all tell me go to Control Panel> hardware and sound> Mouse> Device settings, and then click on settings. I can do up to here, but when the settings interface is brought up, it looks different to anything mentioned in any tutorials.
I can find the Palm tracking option under advanced, but it only allows me to turn it to minimum, not off.

Any help is appreciated!

So here's what happened:

I got tired of my laptop's shutdown being a bit slow, so I went to figure out how to solve it. A forum stated to use the Msconfig' option which only shut down all the drivers when I used basic mode. When I activated normal mode again, everything was fine.

So I decided to see if I could change the mouse pointing, and I get a message saying the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver is not connected and the icon that appears on the windows 7 tray is gone.

Did the driver become removed during that incident or?

Hi littlelisa, welcome to TSG.

1) You might take a look in your bios setup to see if there is an entry there for PS2 mouse, and disable it from there.

2) If not, go to start button, settings, control panel, system, device manager, find the ps2 mouse and place a check mark in the box that says 'disable in this hardware profile' and restart the computer.

I have removed the back f the notebook although I've no idea what I'm looking for however after pushing a few things, connections etc then the Pointing Device returns for a shortwhile then goes again. This suggests a loose connection but I need to know just what I'm looking for before I start removing things from the motherboard, any suggestions please

Here is version 7.4.202.102 for Vista. It's an .exe file, so download and save it, then double-click it to start the install process, then restart.

On my laptop (Presario C700), after about 10 minutes I get a message saying that the alps pointing devise isn't working. However, there seems to be no problems with the curser/pointing device. Why is this message coming up? Is there anything I can or should do? (I really don't want to do anything unless necessary)

Thanks

Morning Please can anyone suggest what to do about a pointing device that constantly disappears from my E31 Notebook ? It can be working fine one minute then just disappears from the screen and the list on Device Manager, I can plug in a mouse and that works OK but once I remove it, nothing.

I have a Toshiba Satellite that is working fine with the exception of the touchpad. I mainly use an external mouse but when out of the house I rely on the touchpad. I have checked the pad in the device manager and the properties display that the device is working properly.

It also indicates that the driver is the best one installed. I would welcome any advice as using a mouse is not always convenient.

My synpatics driver is not retaining its SmartSense setting and consistently resets to the default value. I would like this feature turned off but it keeps resetting.

I have tried the regedit edit of changing restore all defaults in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPCpl
and DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade setting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install

These two settings have stopped my initial problem where NONE of the settings were kept such as two finger scrolling, x-axis scrolling.

But despite the registry changes I have made, the SmartSense setting keeps reseting.

I have also changed the default value of all PalmKms... is 0 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults.

But none of this has worked. My synaptics driver is up-to-date too.

Here is my NFO info:

Hello! My machine: ThinkPad X131eMachine type model: 3374OS: Windows 10 pro (including all updates) Since some recent Windows update (I presume) the Synaptics Pointing Device does not work anymore. According to device manager it is installed ("connected to PS/2 mouse connector"), has the latest UltraNav device drivers (ver. 19.0.17.85), installation has been confirmed, but in device manager properties it claims "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed (Code 24)". When I open "Mouse" in systems control panel it says: "No connection to Synaptics Pointing Device possible" (translated from German) and suggests to de- and re-install the device drivers. What I did to change this:De- and re-installed device drivers including removal of all Synaptics entries in registry (several times).Installed a new keyboard (de-installed it after it brought no result).Installed older device drivers.Ran Lenovo System Update after de-installing the pointing device. In BIOS there is no entry where to switch on or off the pointing device, as I found it suggested in other forums. A USB-mouse works properly, but I would like to use the trackpoint again as well. Has anyone an idea where this error could come from, and what to do to resolve it? Thanks a lot in advance!Winfried

Hi

Bought an Acer laptop last week (running windows 7), and already the touchpad has stopped working. Checked the control panel for any obvious solutions, but everything seemed normal. I later went to the device manager, right-clicked on "alps pointing device" and went for "update driver software." After restarting, it renamed to "PS/2 compatible mouse" and the touchpad just doesn't seemed to be recognized at all now

Any help on this would be appreciated, pretty sick of using my leg as a mouse mat! Thanks

Simon

Hi I need help in getting my touch pad working properly. BEfore THere was a sensor in the bottom right hand side of the screen and if you touched the touchpad it would go gree. Now it is gone and I also get a popup saying "THis application has failed to start because DLACResW.dll was not found. Reinstalling application may fix this problem.
Basically I think I have a virus or somelthing and my touch pad doesnt work proeprly because I can now double click by touching it twice which is annoying becasue it opens up stuff I dont want it to. I prefer clickin with the buttons on laptop.
Thanks any help would be appreciated.
