Dell Inspiron 7560 Warning message for Adapter charger

Q: Dell Inspiron 7560 Warning message for Adapter charger

Hi I am getting warning message :The AC adapter type cannot be determined.
This will prevent optimal system performance.
Please check the AC adapter connect properly, remove AC adapter and plug-in it again
So this appears whenever I plug my charger with some power socket but when I plug with different power Socket the message did not appear and also running diagnostic did not report any charger problem warning
Messages so please let know how to identify which power socket we have to use for plugging charger?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Does the system setup (F2 at powerup) recognize the AC adapter, or does it show unknown?

I purchased my laptop from Dell in November of 2007. In September of this year, the AC Adapter/Charger stopped working. (I would plug it in and the green light would not come on - on the adapter/charger). I got a replacement from Dell (after them sending me the wrong replacement twice!) and now it's not working!
Does this sound like a laptop issue or an adapter/charger issue? Dell keeps trying to tell me it's a laptop issue and my warranty expired last week.

Any help or ideas out there?

A:Dell Inspiron 1720 AC Adapter/Charger Problem

Get the PSU tested with a volt meter, if its outputting a voltage then the Mobo is faulty, as Dell failed to send you a replacement within the guarantee period you could argue its their fault and that had they sent you the correct PSU inside the warranty period then you would have know it was a Mobo issue and as such it would still have been covered by warranty, however as they delayed sending the correct part out your warranty expired....

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.
4. Next I started laptop on the battery, went to BIOS and checked if the charger is recognized in the BIOS. No, it doesn't recognize charger. So, if it is not a charger then what else can it be?
5. Laptop doesn't have any strange smells so I'm not sure if anything happened with the motherboard, but I would assume mother board is ok because it works of the battery.
6. I was thinking updating the BIOS, but I can't, because it wont update whi... Read more

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

A:Suffering from dead laptop of dell inspiron 15 7560

Does the system power button led come on and stay on or does it go off after a few minutes? Do you hear the fans / HDD come on? Is there any damage / liquid spillage on the system?
If the system powers on, check if there is any specific led pattern being displayed as per this article- http://dell.to/2r6aa5w
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed?  Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
Disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to release any static power. Then test the system with the adapter only / battery only.
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
Press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - check for any possible beep codes.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG

I'm facing a peculiar issue with my Dell Inspiron 7560 laptop. When I start the laptop without the charger plugged in and press the power button, the laptop starts normally. However when I plug in the charger and then try to start the laptop by pressing the power button, the laptop simply won't start. It starts fine when the charger is not plugged in but when the charger is Connected , it won't start.
I have checked the charger and the same works fine after starting the laptop. The charger also passed the tests in pre boot diagnostics. I tried connecting from different wall outlets, still won't work.
The laptop is only a week old and this is the first time I'm seeing such an issue . I have also tried the "wake on AC charger " option in BIOS. So the laptop starts when i simply plug in the charger and the power button is no required .
So is it some issue with the charger or the motherboard or could be some loose connection inside the laptop. Kindly help if someone else experienced similar problems.

Hi All,
I am facing a weird problem on my laptop bought a week before, need assistance.
I am using my wifi which is 40mbps connection, but I am getting only 0.4mbs speed. I tried connecting directly by LAN then the speed is 40mbps. I tested connecting with my phone hotspot then also I am getting good speed around 10mbps. I tired resetting my router and tried but still the same.
The key point here is my friend also using the same wifi on his laptop and he is getting 40mbps.
I dont know whats the issue is , even dell support technician taken a remote control and tried several settings but after 2 hours of remote control sharing also its still the same problem.
Please provide you valuable inputs. Thanks in advance!!!!

Just bought this model a month ago. At first, I thought there isn't any LED Indicator in this model for charging/ HDD activity modulation but later when I saw the guide, I noticed an indicator just below the touchpad. But, the catch is that it isn't glowing at all. Even while charging, I tried the hotkey combination (Fn + H) to toggle that light but to no avail. Any idea as to how to activate this light?

Hi I just bought a used dell inspiron 3000 I hope this is the right form to post this question. Anyways I bought it and it does not have a AC power charger and it calls for 19v to charge and use.

I have a Universal 12v charger that fits it but it does not have enough power to turn it on but it does turn on the light on the charger. I try to keep it on the charger all night but still no results.

So I was wondering if anyone had any sugestion on what i could buy or use to get it to work (i look at walmart they dont have anything higher than 12v). I also try dell.com and they dont have it anymore and all the websites like ebay and other charge 25 dollars or more. I dont want to sink that much money into it unless i know it will actually work.

So please respond if you have any sugestions. Thanks

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

I've had this issue for some time it fixed itself long enough for the warranty to expire. The light on the adapter went out so I purchased a new one that kept it charging for several more months. Now it will not charge. It works without the battery in. I also recently replaced the DC power Jack thinking that could be the issue. However I still have the same problem so it must be something else. I am hoping you can help!

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 3520, Windows 8) is about a year and a half old now. Lately it has been having issues recognizing the charger when I plug it in. Sometimes it will show it's charging for a few seconds and then it stops. Often, when I restart or shut down and turn it back on, it will be fine and charge like normal. Other times, nothing is wrong and it charges exactly like it's supposed to. Right now, I've turned it off and on several times and it still won't charge. I don't know if it's the battery, the charger, or something wrong with my laptop.

edit: I left it on with the charger plugged in just in case, and now it seems to be charging intermittently; the light indicating it's charging will stay steady before it blinks and bit and goes back to being steady.

A:Dell Inspiron 3520 won't recognize charger off and on

With the Charger unplugged from the Wall, check to see if the plug is loose where it attaches to the laptop.

My Dell XPS 13 has recently been unable to recognize my AC adapter. I've tried several outlets and chargers, but to no avail. Once I plug the charger into the laptop, the charging light on my Dell lights up for a second but turns off immediately after.
I am unable to get past the Dell SupportAssist and it seems to be an endless loop that won't allow me into my desktop.
Would I be able to bypass the "AC Adapter Unknown" error by using Google's Pixel 2 charger? It would allow me to charge through Dell's USB-C port instead. Has anyone tried this method or has solved the issue in any other way?
Thanks for any help at all!

Hi Need some help, I have an inspiron 5100 that I bought couple of year ago. few month back I noticed that the machine is not charging the battery when the laptop is on. as sson as I shut down and turn off teh laptop, teh charger stats working on the battery. So I don't beleive it is a battery problem but rather a charger one, I'm wondering if someone know if it is a software related and how to fix it.

A:Dell Inspiron 5100 Battery Charger not working

Check very carefully for full contact from the charger points, and the best way to clean them is with a pencil eraser, followed by denatured alcohol and a queue tip. The contacts do become weak or bent, which can cause the problem.
There is no software that affects that model, but there is a chip in the battery that counts the number of full charges. Onces it reaches that magic number, it stops further charging even though good otherwise. This is to prevent fire and other damage as the battery ages.
Otherwise, you need someone with experience using a soldering iron, to replace a couple of doohickies inside the case.

The charger port in my Inspiron has become broken over time, due to the charger that was sent with my laptop not working properly, (Where when the charger is plugged in, it comes up with a message saying that it's plugged in, but not charging. During that time as well, the plastic bits inside of the charger port has come out, leaving only the two tiny metal bits that the plastic covered. It still charged my laptop when i got the charger to work. Since a few weeks ago, when the charger completely broke, I left it alone and used a spare laptop. A new charger finally came for my laptop and it does not accept any charger whatsoever. Not even showing the LED that it is charging. My laptop still has warranty, but I don't know whether this would be covered. Can anyone help?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 5567 charger port broken

It'll be deemed abuse/accidental damage - the warranty will not cover the repair.
If you can replace the part yourself, it's this one:
If you can't, a local computer repair shop can replace it - costing about an hour's labor charge.
You're better off with a reputable local shop that charges by time -- not one of the big chains (Staples, Best Buy, or even Dell) that charge a flat rate for the repair.  Flat-rate will almost certainly cost more.

I bought the laptop from a guy I know and the PC is just 3 months old. But from the first day I got it I've been facing problems. I managed to get all the software problems fixed (Firewall detecting viruses where there were none, all my files turning into files of size 888kb, driver problems) but now another problem has come up.
Before yesterday it always seems like I have to press the power button twice before it turns on. Yesterday afternoon I pressed the power button twice and it didn't turn on, then I plugged it in and it turned on, and the battery was full. I removed the charger and it was still working so I don't know why it didn't turn on at first.
Later in the evening as usual I went to this place to use the WiFi there and after downloading some stuff I hibernated it and went back to my dorm room. Only to turn it on and be told that 'my battery is critically low' which shouldn't be so because I was charging it while browsing and the battery was at 100%. So I plugged in the charger and pressed continue, and all of a sudden caps lock and the battery symbol started to blink. The battery symbol was blinking white and off (with orange randomly blinking in between) and the caps lock light was blinking steadily. When I tried to type my password (my laptop password is 'anonymous') the keyboard seemed to be malfunctioning because it typed something like 'a$&@+nonyidjdjdjmous' , like, basically strange characters in between my pa... Hey, I've had this laptop for about a year or two now, and on about three separate occasions the laptop has reported that the charger is not recognised. On previous occasions I have had to call Dell and they send me a new charger which works fine for a few months until I get this problem again, and I have to repeat the process.
I guess it is that time again, because the laptop has stopped recognising my charger, and refuses to charge. How can I fix this and stop it from happening? I am sick of having to call Dell multiple times just to get a new charger, only for it to stop working a few months later. How can I fix this issue permanently? I am severely disappointed.

A:Dell Inspiron 5999 charger not recognised problem

Hi buggycobra, Thanks for posting. Apologies that your computer is not working as you expected. In researching this for you, it appears that if the charger plug is inserted and removed multiple times, the internal connection to the motherboard can become defective thus giving a "not recognized" error.  You may need to have the motherboard changed to keep this from happening. Please contact Tech Support in your country to troubleshoot.  Thanks.

So I ran into the old plugged in, not charging problem with my laptop about a month back. I hoped it was the charger, but upon getting a replacement 65-watt charger, the problem persisted. I assumed the fiddly bits on the inside of the laptop had given up the ghost, as I've had that issue before, but when a friend plugged in his 90-watt dell charger it worked like a charm. I'd rather not have to go buy a new 90-watt charger, but I will if I have to.
Also, I suppose I should mention that I'm using a 5759 with no modifications. Also, I used to get an error message every time I plugged in a 65-watt charger though it doesn't show up anymore for whatever reason and I can't remember exactly what it said. Something about it not being recognized or somesuch. Same error message with 3 different 65-watt chargers.

So i have a dell inspiron 15 3521, about a year ago, it started turning on, but wouldn't charge. Then, the battery completely died and it wouldn't turn on. Also, when i plugged the charger in, the light on the charger unit turned on then off. I then proceeded to buy a new battery and charging unit. It turned on perfectly and worked well, but the battery wouldnt charge, and when the battery's charge was all out, it would start up, show the windows loading screen for 30-60 seconds and then mysteriously power off. (Same result with battery+charger in) When i tried turning it on with just the charger in, the front indicator lights would turn on for a few seconds, then turn back off. I tried getting rid of the static built up by pressing the power button down for 30 seconds, but no progress. I know that the outlet is working perfectly, the battery works well, just doesnt have a charge, and has been cleaned. I think the problem is either with the laptop not accepting power (for lack of better words) or the charger not producing enough power. All help is appreciated, and needed... Thank you! :)

When I plug the charger in the message on the battery icon on the bottom toolbar reads as "73%, plugged in, not charging". Obviously the laptop is recognising the charger (i.e "plugged in") but it is not allowing the battery to charge.
I have installed every update on the computer and I have recently searched for any outstanding BIOS updates. The system seems to suggest there is a BIOS update to be installed yet when I try to install it the system says that it cannot detect a charger, and won't complete the update, or it won't complete the update without a charger plugged in in the first place. It's a no-win situation. The computer and charger are only 14 months old so this is very unsatisfactory. When I remove the battery the computer operates on AC power only, so again the charger is working, it simply won't charge the battery and therefore once the battery runs down to 0, which it will eventually, I will be limited to using AC power only.
If I restart the laptop with the charger plugged in it diverts me to a warning page saying that the charger is not recognised and I am given the option to go to the BIOS setup, go to diagnostics or to continue. If I choose "continue" it simply returns me to this warning page every time so the only way to power up the laptop is to do so with the AC charger out, and to then plug it in once the system has started so that the battery doesn't drain completely.
Please help.

A:Inspiron 15 5559 charger not charging battery (manufacturers charger being used)

An unrecognized AC adapter will not charge the battery.
First try a new OEM Dell adapter.  If that's also not recognized, replace the DC power jack:
If neither the new adapter nor the DC jack solves the problem, you've got a bad charge circuit - replace the mainboard.

Hello there,
I would really like to purchase the Dell Inspiron 15 7560 here in the UK. I would mostly use it for writing and light photo and video editing, with the odd bit of digital art thrown in.
Unfortunately, there are very few reviews out there on this model and I have been unable to find out how colour accurate the display is. I'm looking at the Adobe RGB and the sRGB here.
Do any of you that own this laptop know the percentage of colours the display can cover....or have the means to test it for me?
Thanks so much for your time and help!!

I think it probably has usb 1.1. It should still work, it should have a windows 98 driver to help the computer recognize it. Usb 1.1 isn't as fast, so it probably won't be able to connect at 54mbps. Usb 1.1 transfers at 12mbps so that would be the max speed probably. Usb 2.0 is 480mbps, much faster.

For the past few months, the battery on the laptop will not charge although it is plugged in correctly - I checked the pin inside the adapter connector, and it is straight as an arrow. Fiddling with it does not fix it at all. I am using the original adapter that came with the laptop. A few weeks ago, I installed the new BIOS, but the problem is still there.

The laptop gets a message during startup that reads
"AC Power Adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect Dell 65W AC Adapter or greater for best system performance. To resolve this issue, try to reset the power adapter."

When the laptop, the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging."

One time, I managed to fix it by unplugging the battery for a while and reinserting it, but after a week or so, it kept happening again.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1521, and it's only 1.5 years old. I understand this may be a battery problem, but those can be rather expensive, and it seems a little soon for the battery to be dying. I'd rather try to rule out anything else before I have to buy another one. I don't have a spare to test it, but is there any other way I can try to figure out what's going on? Or does anyone else have any thoughts on ... Read more

A:Dell Inspiron Power Adapter problem

It's almost certainly the battery. Depending how it was cared for, how much it charged/overcharged, and what type it is, it may not be at all unusual for it to quit after a year and a half. Do you know what type it is (Lithium, NiMH, NiCad, etc.)?

It can't be the adapter if it is powering the machine.

What percentage charge does it say the battery has?

I'm at my wits end.  HAve had this laptop for 2-3 years and have ALWAYS had a problem connecting to wifi, etc.   I sent it back when it was still under warranty and they replaced the fan and heat seal (what does that have to do with connecting?).   Anyway, I have a jetpack that I use most of the time at work but also hardwire my phone thru USB connection sometimes and also use wifi at home.  When I can connect (it take literally forever to even find the connection, yet my phone pops up any available wifi within seconds) the connection is probably slower than old fashioned dial up.  I'm ready to throw the stupid thing out the window.
I've tried downloading an updated drivers, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc.  Any other ideas?  Hoping someone can please help me.  Thanks in advance!

I am having problems with the battery charging on a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.
I bought this computer which had a charging issue. It only works on mains power the battery is not charging.
It was thought that the Charging jack board was faulty. This has now been replaced.
I am still having problems.
The mains adapter that came with the laptop was not original Dell.
I have replaced the adapter with an original Dell PA21. The end lead that plugs into the jack has a hexagonal end.
Does anyone know if this is the correct type for this model? Or should I have a round end type? Or does it make no difference?
I can only conclude that the problem lies in the adapter and/or the Dell battery that I think could be dead and may need replacing.
Thanks very much.

A:Dell inspiron 1545 charging adapter

Some systems were built with hexagonal connectors - if yours has one at the computer end, the adapter should fit it. If not, you need the round connector.
That said, if the AC adapter isn't recognized and you've already tried a new adapter and a new DC jack board, the problem is with the mainboard, not the battery.

"The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.

Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance.
Strike the F3 key (before F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see this power warning message again.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility."
Recently this message showed to me when try to use my laptop, after few attempt of restarting  the message still showing so i choose to strike f3 to ignore the message and go into my desktop first. The pc works fine and i not getting the message again. But i found the performance of my laptop become low when play game. Now i want to try if my adapter still got problem or not but i think they wont show me the message again. I wonder how i figure out if i need a new adapter or not. Can you suggest me how to test my adapter? Thanks so much.

A:Dell Inspiron 5420 Adapter Issue

The only real test is to try the adapter on another Dell system.  If it produces the same error on that system, the adapter is bad.
If it does not, then the problem is with the DC jack in the system - or less likely, the mainboard.
If you don't have another system to try, see if a local shop does - or has another adapter you can try.
