I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All!
I'm having a problem trying to change the name of a user account in windows XP.
You can go into the control panel fine, but when you click on the
"User Accounts" in Control Panel, the page that comes up is blank.
Also there is an error that pops up saying, " The Access Control List (ACL)
Structure Is Invalid." And when you click on the "Back" or the "Forward"
Buttons, an error occurs, "g_navigator is null or not an object"
This is extremely SAD! as I do NOT want to do a reinstallation or a
paste reinstall of windows XP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have installed the BT home hub (British Telecom) There are two user accounts on my pc. I am the administrator, and have no problems using the connection to the hub (either wirelessly or by cable) at all!

I do however, have a problem with any other user been able to connect to the internet. I have tried making them and "Administrator" too, and I get the same error message:

You were denied access because;
Access denied by access control list.

My reasoning told me that it might be a software problem, as a dial up connection, and a standard broadband cable connection all worked peviously with the two "Adimistrator", and "restricted" user accounts.

I spoke to BT who decided that it was a microsoft issue...microsoft UK want to charge me ?49 to help as my XP Home Edition wasn't bought from them, it was pre-installed. I contacted Time Computers for help from them, though I am utterly dissapointed in them...I am a novice computer user, but I recognised that my ?1 per minute technical help call was ludicrous...DON'T USE IT! They spend 5 mins getting and checking your details!

1, Since when has creating a shortcut to a connection ever "lifted" an access denied?

2, I was also told to delete the accounts that were not allowed the access. They told me to click on save files, after I had started to delete the account...they got mixed up with the order of how things are done! Luckily I got it halted!

I had to rebuild my PC a week or so ago and now cannot access a website that I have always been able to access before.

I keep getting a message saying "Forbidden. Access denied by access control list" but there is absolutely nothing within my access control list restricting this site.

I then went in and added the URL as an allowable site within the access control list thinking that might help and I'm still forbidden from accessing the site.

I've cleaned out my cache and ran Ad-aware to see if that would help and still nothing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much.

If you're on a dialup connection, the problem is usually fixed by creating a new dialup connection and deleting the old.

My Computer>Dialup Networking>Make new connection, step through the wizard to make a connection identical to the old except for what you call it. Example: If the old connection is named "Internet," name the new one "Internet2."

If that works, just delete the old connection.

If it doesn't work, start looking here.

I have a Win2000 system. I have mistakenly set the Access Control List (ACL) to deny access to the C: drive for everyone (stupid, I know). Now I am unable to access any of the programs or the porperties to change that setting back. As a last measure, I tried to reinstall Win 2000, but for some reason the system will not let me do that.

Can someone help?? Please.

A:The access control list (ACL) structure is invalid

ProgramData folder is a hidden folder which contains the application's settings. This folder is separated from Program Files for better security from Windows Vista onwards. AppData folder is also a hidden folder containing user specific settings. Microsoft has made these folders hidden from users on purpose.

Only Administrators have full permissions for ProgramData and AppData folders. Ordinary users will have read only permissions so that they are prevented from making damaging changes to applications.

Checkup whether your another user is an administrator.

I suggest you leave these folders from making changes, unless you know the implications.

Hi Everyone,

I am running a Domain (using Windows Server 2008 R2), that services a variety of Windows (only) client computers. The Windows clients in question are XP Professional, Vista Business, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 8 Professional.

I would like to control access to the internet on my Domain, such that client computers are only able to visit a very select (specific) list of URLs.

Preferably I would like to be able to administer the control of URLs from the Windows Server. Furthermore I would also like to be able to allocate various clients into logical "business groups", e.g.: "Stores", "Sales Team", etc. Finally each group will be permitted access to specific URLs based on their day to day needs.

If simple administration of URLs is not possible from the Server; or if the cost of this approach is inhibitive I am open to suggests on how to limit the URL access of each client computer.

Most client computers in my network have "Administrative" privileges so control from the Server is my greatest hope. However I am able to set various client computers to "User" only privileges.

For extra background information most of my clients use a variety of browsers; therefore it is not uncommon to have Chrome, Firefox & IE all installed on a single client.

Any suggestions & / or help here will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

This is a problem on my friends PC, no Internet access possible, so I saved a HijackThis log on floppy, and am now posting this thread from my own PC.

The PC had no effective AV software (a very old copy of AVG free edition not updated in 6 months), and even older version of Ad-aware, and that's it. No longer possible or able to update them, but I ran them for what it's worth (AVG found 2 Trojans and sent them to virus vault).

I took with me Coolwebshredder on floppy as well and ran that several times. A bit inconclusive, in that it said all clear once, then later said it had found and removed Googlems. Whatever, it seems clear now.

Homepage was initially set to about:blank all the time no matter how many times it was changed to Google. I sorted that by removing what I thought was some obvious BHO (sorry if that was the wrong thing to do), homepage now stays as Google but doesn't allow it to load.

When I open Internet Explorer I get this message instead of the homepage;

You were denied access because:

This comes up whatever web address is typed into the browser.

Hi all,

Access 2003 with VBA code time again!

I have a form named "MyForm" with a single tab control on it named "MyTabCtl1".

The Tab Control holds three pages: "Tab_Page_1", "Tab_Page_2" and "Tab_Page_3" and each page has a number of bound controls on it.

Now, on "Tab_Page_3" I have an unbound control called "Descriptor_00"

I wish to create code that, on loading the form, will set the ".text" or ".value" property of "Descriptor_00" to be a combined string derived from other controls on the same and other pages.

On a standard form, I'd use something like:

Me!MyControl.Value = Me![First Control] & ", " & Me![Second Control] & (etc)

to build my combined string.

But, how would I do this for a control on a page of a tabbed control ? What's the syntax cuz I'me puzzled!!

Does this make any sense?

All the best

I just did a clean install of Vista on my Thinkpad T42 last week. I am now noticing problems with permissions -- many folders in my Documents folder show up as "read-only", and I'm having trouble accessing and modifying a lot of my own documents. If I look at the properties of a folder, it says "read-only"; I go to the "security" tab to give myself full control over the folder by checking off the top box, but when I hit "apply" it repeatedly tells me things like:
An error occurred while applying security information to
The access control list (ACL) structure is invalid.Click to expand...

I've also tried unchecking "read-only" in the folder properties and hitting "ok", but after I log in again, it goes back to "read-only".

One idea I've had is that this could be related to my using the Windows Backup Utility to back-up my data from XP before I did my clean install. Maybe something about the file permissions was stored in the .bkf file, and conflicted with something on my Vista system? Just a guess; I didn't find too much that directly related to this on Google. I tried creating a new profile in Vista and moving all the folders over there and trying the same things, but this didn't solve the problems.

Any ideas? You guys seem to really know your stuff.

Hi guys, I came here because I was searching for removal things for "Instant access/access control" and there were quiet a few results from this forum for removal help, I've tried many things (deleting it manually from the prog files, deleting related files that were listed on symantic's page about it) and it keeps coming back.

I think I've had the thing since Wednesday(5/25) or Thursday(5/26), I can't remember which. I deleted it along with a recently downloaded files and it seemed to keep away from my comp. for a few hours, I later downloaded other files(video files, downloaded Thursday(5/26) or Friday(5/27)) and it came back. I deleted it and the files I had just downloaded, but it didn't get rid of it.

I've read a few of the forum things, some talk about removing things from the registry but I'm really worried about doing that because I think I may completely screw up my computer as I am sort of a klutz. I'm willing to try to edit the registry, though, if someone can tell me how to save it.
I already ran Norton to check for viruses, none showed. I also ran Ad-Aware SE and deleted/quarantined all the things that came up(both the severe and negligible objects)

Is there anything I should know about, like what I should and should not do? (like if I shouldn't leave programs on, etc)

I'm new here, and bear with me, I'm trying to be as helpful as possible, but I'm not the best at following some of this language.

Here's the deal, I've recently encountered a virus that mostly crippled my computer by bogging it down with pop-ups. I've downloaded the following software to help eliminate that:

A-squared free

I'm not sure what the difference is in them, but I've ran them all, in normal mode and in safe mode and since then the pop ups are gone. We get one pop up now, that looks like it's a windows message saying that there is unauthorized activity in effect on the computer and to download this spyware software. I ignore it every time.

The main problem I'm encountering now, is that I have restrictions on accessing my control panel. Even when trying to access it through right-clicking on the desktop, a message pops up saying "Operations have been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

Also when rebooting the computer, another message is popping up (as of today) stating that Windows cannot find C:windows\system32\printer.exe.

Please let me know what you need to start out this process of getting my computer back to normal!! Thanks for your help in advance.

You want to setup data validation or a drop-down list? If you want to limit to list I would do that as well. This only allows them to use one of the list items.

To setup a drop-down or what Access calls a lookup list within a table click in the datatype section of a field and select lookup wizard. Go through the wizard and after you finish click on the lookup tab in the field properties at the bottom of the screen. Set the "Limit to List" property to yes.

My issue is that even when you select one it doesn't save your selection to the table. You can set a Combo or List Box Row Source to the Query Names of the AllQueries Collection using VBA. If you put AllQueries Collection in to the VBA Editor's Help it shows how to loop through the Collection and print the name of each query.
You would need to loop through the collection and assign the names found there to an SQL string and then set the Combo's Record Source to the SQL string.

I was trying to change the access permissions for my external harddrive, and now it won't let me change anything at all. Two pop-ups appear each time I access a folder in the HD.

I've unintentionally changed the permissions for 'Everyone' (unaware that 'Everyone' includes myself, as the administrator) by denying permission to the directory. However, I'm uncertain as to whether that is where the problem lies, as I've already re-added 'Everyone' with allowed permissions, yet the problem persists.

I believe the problem is claiming 'object ownership'. I tried to claim object ownership, but it doesn't seem to work. I still get the pop-up saying I'm denied permission. This error message is shown when I attempt to allow permissions for 'CREATOR OWNER':

I want to enter, amend and delete stock and then be able to view current stock levels and stock history.

I can do this by making (+) or (-) entries into a stock table. My current stock level could then be found by running a sum query on the stock table, which would calculate all the ins and outs since the year dot!

I feel this is not the best way to record stock in and out entries. Can anyone suggest a better way? Is there a standard way of doing this?

A:Solved: Stock Control - Access

Simon, hello again.
You could keep a running "stock level" in the table at the same time as the calculation of adding subtracting can be done easily, you would not then need the query. You would still have the history of stock movements.

When designing a form in MS Access, if you create a new text box, option button, combo box or any of a number of controls, you get as a bonus, a label created along with it. This label is "Associated" or "Attached" to the control.

How, in VBA (or in any way) can I obtain the identity of a label that is associated with a control (or vice versa)? None of the properties associed with controls seem to reference this information.

I have a lot of computer experience, and my computer has always worked fine. Recently, when I tried to get to Control Panel, I couldn't find it. There is nowhere on my computer where I can find a control panel icon or access it in any way. Also, when I have tried to go to "Add or Remove Programs" or change my user settings, I get this message:

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

Well, I am the only person to use this computer and have always been the system administrator. This message doesn't make sense. It may be a coincidence, but I had a virus that was "WinAntiVirus Pro 2007" a week ago, but I bought a new internet security and have completely cleaned it out of my system now. Help please.

I have Windows XP Home Edition.

Also, it won't let me download Windows updates, McAfee, and probably other things.

Windows XP sp 2.

When I click on Control Panel from the start menu I receive the following error window: Intel(R)PROSet !Resources are not available OK. I click on OK and the icons/links load as expected.

How do I get rid of the error message? I have tried the following: I reinstalled Windows along with all updates, etc and the problem still exists. It exists at the completion of the reinstall and prior to updates. I don't think there are any other problems but I have been concentrating on this item so others may have fallen by the wayside.

A:Solved: Control Panel access problem

PROSet is a wireless network detection software used as an alternative to the Windows WZC utility.

Check to see if it's in Add/Remove Programs. If it's there, try uninstalling it.

Would like to make some fields in my table required. I have set the table property, and have figured out how to capture the condition in the form's On-Error Procedure. So now my problem is, rather than letting Access spit out all the error messages, after I capture the error and do a message box, how to do I get back the focus on the control for the field that was not entered. Since the scenario is that the user is creating a new form, and could just close the form without putting data in the required field, I can't figure out any place else to capture the error except in the form's On_Error procedure. It anyone has a better idea, I would certainly be willing to try, so that I can return the user's focus to the proper control and avoid all of MSAccess errors/warnings of not be able to save record, exit close form anyway, etc.

I have a Parent form (frm_Def) with three subforms on it.

Ive got a button on the parent form that i wish to make submit the info from all the subforms to a table.

I'm just not sure how to reference the objects on the subforms from the parent form.
For starters, im going to validate the button on the parent form to display a message box if the 'Ref' field on one of the subforms is empty. Ho would i do this?

I've tried..

Private Sub cmdAdd_Click()

If IsNull(Forms.frm_Def_Base.Ref) Or Forms.frm_Def_Base.Ref = "" Then
MsgBox ("no ref on subform 1")
Msgbox("ref: " & Forms.frm_Def_Base.Ref)
End If

End Sub

Can you point me in the right direction??

Hi, I have two list boxes, one named listRegion and one named listCountry. When you click a region from the first list, I need the countries to show up in the second one (based on the tblProjects table).

tblProjects and has fields called Region (text) and Country (text) to hold the region and country names. The reason they're formatted as text is because I want to avoid linking to ID numbers if possible for a reason that we don't need to go into here. Don't worry, there's no chance they won't be unique.

I've gotten this to work in the past using code like this:

Private Sub listRegion_AfterUpdate()
' Update the row source of the listCountry list box
' when the user makes a selection in the listRegion
' list box.
Me.listCountry.RowSource = "SELECT Country FROM" & _
" tblProjects WHERE Region = " & _
Me.listRegion & _
" ORDER BY Country"
End Sub

But now when I click a value on the listRegion list box, it prompts me for a value (for example, if I click Africa, it asks me to enter a value for Africa). Can Access not pass non-numerical data from one listbox to the other? Am I stuck using IDs?

A:Solved: Access 2007 - linking combo/list boxes with text values instead of ID#?

Access can pass anything you like, but you have to tell it to pass the correct thing.
For instance if you use the Combo box wizard to create a combo it invariably uses 2 fields/columns, the ID and the text.
If you refer to Me.listRegion and it is using the ID as the first Column, that is what you get. not the text, you can use the Column funtion to specify which column you want Access to use, starting with column 1 as 0 so the ID would be
and the text would be

However, Access does not like the Columns reference in queries and will quite often ignore or mis-interpret them, so if that happens it would be safer to set the value to a hidden dummy text field which can be referred to in the query.

I'm considering re-formatting my hard drive because my computer doesn't contain a lot of personal information and I have a virus that ravaged the computer (although this isn't a virus removal question). My question is if I do re-format my pc would it be likely that I'd get access to my cd drive back so I can re-install windows?

Some more info:

When I put a CD in nothing happens. However I can still boot from CDs.

Although "control panel" is removed from the "my computer" folder I can find it in the pull down menu in "network connections" but when I click it a message says "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your administrator."

When I press ctrl + alt + delete a message says "task manager has been disabled by your administrator."
Thanks a lot for any help.

I'm trying to format checkboxes (and textboxes and combo boxes - both of which I can do), in an Access 2013 form, so that they are effectively highlighted when they receive the focus.

Text and combo boxes are easy beacuse I can just change the .backcolor format, which is what I want but checkboxes don't have that property, what can I do to get the same effect with them (not that changing any of the colour properties seems to actually make any difference)?

Many thanks,

A:Solved: Access forms - checkbox control formatting

As you have found you can't manipulate it directly.
So you could manipulate it's Label or you could do the following.
Reduce the Check Box's Border so that it just surrounds the check box.
Add a Rectangle around the checkbox, send it to the back.
Using VBA change the colour of the rectangle's background when the checkbox is clicked or gets focus.
