"Limited wifi" problem for Lenovo G505

Q: "Limited wifi" problem for Lenovo G505

For the past few months, my Lenovo G505 computer (running windows 8.1) has been telling me that its wifi connection is "limited". It used to work well on the wifi (same router) and I have restarted the router several times, but to no prevail. The wifi problem is only for my two private wifi connections, and the computer can work fine on any other wifi. I do not know how to fix this, or where to begin, and would prefer not changing my computer's os to something lower such as windows 8. Please comment if you know how I should fix this.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Usually is a router that is causing the limited issue, not the computer.

Some forum members have reported a variety of Wifi issues with their G505 laptops. Their reports range from showing "Connection is limited", to Wifi connections dropping repeatedly, to being unable to make a Wifi connection at all. I combined multiple threads in order to assist forum members with troubleshooting solutions.

If your G505 was upgraded to Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and then lost connectivity, or you recently purchased a G505 running Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and are unable to connect, try following the instructions posted by Vikramsbox to restore the connection through the Lenovo Communications Utility.

For non-Windows 8.0 or 8.1 users, start troubleshooting with the basics:

The most recent WLAN, BIOS, and Power Management drivers from Lenovo can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g505-no...
It is also good practice to verify your Wifi is activated by following the instructions from Neokenchi.
Check Power Management settings to ensure your laptop isn't turning off the Wifi as noted by Dannyk1.
Check to see that Airplane Mode is set to OFF by following the instructions provided by Shiv_K.

After trying those steps, if you still experience a Wifi issue with your G505, other troubleshooting steps have been noted in this thread. This includes a whitelist of accepted replacement WLAN cards posted by Topmahof and a 3rd party driver which resolved wifi issues fo... Read more

Good afternoon all! I recently purchased a G505 from Best Buy. I have only run into one issue. My WiFi will go from connected to "Limited" connectivity about every 10 to 20 minutes. I can disconnect from the router and reconnect, and it will fix the issue temporarily. Connectivity is fine with all other devices and was fine with the previous laptop just a day before I purchased this one. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Try rebooting the router & modem. Usually limited connection, means that the compute has failed to communicate properly with the Wireless Access Point, or wired router connection.

Hi,
I am hoping you can help me with my problem.
My main laptop (Sony Vaio VPCCB15FG) in the last week just stopped accessing the internet via WiFi.
It says it has Limited Acess but I have no idea how to fix it.

The other 3 computers in the house (Custom desktop, Toshiba Net book, Samsung Laptop) can all access the internet as normal.

It is only the Sony that is being problomatic.
It is also running rather slow for the spec so that may be related.

Please help! I am not super computer savy so please give simple instructions.

Cheers

I'm using a MBP mid 2012 15-inch non-retina running Windows 7 through BootCamp.
I decided to update my installation to the SP1 and hence installed a few Windows essential updates. After the update, I realized that my WiFi failed to connect to any hotspot, although all were present in the connection selection dialogue in the system tray. On clicking connect on any SSID, it takes around 30 seconds and then says "Connection unsuccessful , Limited connectivity to **** "
Also, neither connecting an ethernet cable nor USB tethering from my Android phone seem to work. Any help?
I've tried installing the latest BootCamp Support software, tried uninstalling and deleting existing ethernet and wireless adapter drivers

MacBook Pro, Windows 7, Running OS X 10.8.3 and BootCamp 5

EDIT: I have manually update both the ethernet and WLAN drivers, to no avail

I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's Windows 7 laptop after she had a virus/malware infection. I'm pretty sure we've successfully cleared the virus (an updated/full scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware in safe mode comes up clean). However, we have had no Internet access since the infection. The wireless router/connection itself is fine (I connect to it daily with my laptop, as I am to write this post) but her laptop won't connect to it, we can't browse any web pages.

I may have made the problem worse in trying to resolve it. I stupidly followed the advice on a forum for some registry edits for Windows XP--deleting WinSock and WinSock2 from the registry and then restarting the computer in hopes they'd re-register themselves. Unfortunately, WinSock2 re-appeared but WinSock did not. I'm wondering if this has created a new problem (or compounded the problems we were already having).

In diagnostics, we currently get the following report: "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I just ran an ipconfig in the command prompt and got the following results:

I installed Windows 10 2 days ago and since then I have an issue where my Internet will fluctuate between Connected and Limited, which prevents me from accessing any web pages or applications. I've tried everything from resetting the router, replacing the router, trying to do an ipconfig /release and /renew (which didn't work, I couldn't release for some reason.) I'm seeing a lot of some similar issues where people are running into issues with their Adapter Drivers and I'm trying to figure out if maybe that's my problem. I'm using a Rosewill RNX-N250PCe and I'm running Windows 10 as previously stated. If anyone knows what I can try to do and possibly walk me through it (with links if possible) then it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello all,

I have just bought a HP G61-410SA laptop. When turning it on initially I wasn't able to find my router that is plugged in to my PC to set up an internet connection. After trying a few things it finally found the signal and I tryed to connect to it. The signal strength, from the laptop to my O2 router, is full strength however there is a message saying "limited access" and I am unable to load any webpages on the laptop. Any help on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. If any further information is required could you be very specific on how to find it as most I.T goes over my head!

I tryed putting an extra ethernet cable in the back of my router and plugging it in to the laptop which did work but sort of defeats the purpose of having the laptop. I don't know if that helps any or makes a diffrence.

Thanks

Hello, I am at my college, and I have a strange problem. When I am connected to my college's network, it works just fine, but every few minutes or so, my WiFi network connection suddenly goes to "Limited" and I lose my internet access. It doesn't actually disconnect, but it just says it is limited. If I disconnect and reconnect, it works fine, but then a couple minutes later it does it again. I can't seem to see any pattern to it, but sometimes I think it happens more when I am in a full-screen application like a game or Netflix or something. Also, this only seems to happen in my dorm building. If I go to another building, and connect, it seems that the problem goes away. I tried some of the solutions mentioned here, but none seemed to fix it. Any clue what the deal is?

A:WiFi says "Limited" every few minutes

I am also experiencing the "limited" condition when I am hooked up to the internet from home. There were a number of links on the internet with some suggestions as to what was occurring and what to do. None seemed to work for me.

I purchased my laptop last week and started to configure it yesterday and started seeing the "limited" condition when I looked at the network status. Then shortly after the "limited" designation appeared, my internet connection was lost.

Since I purchased the laptop through Costco they have a concierge service for most of their electronic products. I called them and we went through a number of tests (power off - status reset, remove the Centrino WIFI driver, reloaded the driver, even got HP on the line) and nothing has resolved the issue. I have now made five calls to Costco and the last two they have engaged HP. The last dialog was to have them send me a replacement WIFI module to see if this resolves the problem - supposed to arrive on Thursday (9/12).

Hopefully this does the trick and let's me continue on with transferring everything from a Window's 7 laptop to the new unit.

So depending on where you got your unit and probably more importantly I would go back to them and see if they would be able to contact the computer manufacturer to possibly get a replacement WIFI module. I don't know if you would get anywhere calling the manufacturer directly but it might be worth a try to have them try to troubleshoot the WIF... Read more

My notebook's wifi and ethernet adapter are both set on "Obtain an IP add automatically" and "obtain DNS server automatically". The lan card on pc with win xp is also configured the same way.
I tried declaring the ip and subnetmask explicitly on wlan adapter but it still fails to connect. I don't know...the prblm is in router's configuration or adapter settings or both could be misconfigured?
I tried several methods multiple times but i am so frustrated...none of them is working.

What's your signed up Speed with your ISP? You may post your Speedtest. Would you happen to know if there are heavy gamers or video streamers in your household?

Have you tried a wired connection?

In addition, there might be interference with your nearby wireless networks using the same Channel as yours. We can find that out if you can provide us a snip of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.

I am going 'round & 'round with this issue. I log on as limited user account for security. However, when I am on that acct, I cannot copy files to the external HP drive - I have to switch over to the admin user account to do so. In order to use the limited account for this operation, I have read that you should disable simple file sharing, (on admin acct), then rt clik on the file u want to copy - this then opens a menu with security tab where you are supposed to be able to give full control to the limited acct for that file. My admin acct that brings up this menu has those boxes to check grayed out. Also, do you have to rt click and give full permission for any file that you want to copy? (once you have this all figured out) - Seems a bit cumbersome. Any ideas anyone?? Thanks.

I try to repair the connection a million time but it doesn't work still. It's only worked 3 times so far. Everyone else around me with a laptop can connect to the network no problem. ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns

I tried WindowsXP Sock Fix. Still nothing.
I went down to my school's "computer help desk" and wouldn't you know that it worked when I was down there so they couldn't help me, but the second I leave it doesn't work. Hi,

I have been having this problem with my desktop computer for some time, and have tried so many things with no real solution.

Basically, the internet works SOMETIMES, and then suddenly, for seemingly no reason, it will lose connection, fail to acquire the network address, and then end up saying "Limited or No Connectivity".

Sometimes when I start the computer up, this will happen from the beginning. Sometimes when I do a system restore to a few days previously it will sort the problem, but then the problem returns after a period of time.
(My desktop computer worked fine for some time, and it has only been in the past few weeks that it has had this problem.)
So, problem:
Fails to acquire network address on one computer (in two seperate XP partitions), says "Limited or No Connectivity".
Connection works fine on laptop.
Problems also on Xbox Live (disconnecting). I am guessing same problem as desktop, but of course with less options to experiment and analyse.

Here is my network's set-up:

BT HomeHub 2.0
Desktop Computer (running two different XP's in seperate partitions, BOTH of which have the same problem)
XP-1 (SP2): Many programs installed, incl. AVG 8.0, Sygate Firewall, and Firefox.
XP-2 (SP2): Very few programs installed, fresh OS. Still problematic.

Xbox 360: Disconnects from Live sporadically, and sometimes refuses to reconnect.

I've spent the last two or so weeks attempting to fix this problem. I'll explain it to the best of my ability. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to help you help me.

My problem started about 10 days ago. Prior to this date, my service would drop, not predictably, but enough that I can remember it. Comcast has insisted there is no problem and no other computers on the network experienced this problem, so I assumed it was something local. I never made a real attempt to fix it, however, because it wasn't a big enough problem to bother me. A simple reboot would fix the problem. The error would occur most often when I was downloading media and running another program that was accessing the internet. The problem would still occur without both happening at the same time, however, so I assumed that it was a coincidence.

10 days ago, I was on the internet, browsing. I left for an hour and upon my return, found the internet was disconnected. I rebooted and, instead of connecting, an error came up. "Limited or no connectivity." After several more restarts, I was connected, but it dropped out again, with the same error. I connected looked my Wireless card up and it connected to the network.

After several days, the wireless card came up with the same error. In addition, the error was still happening with the LAN connection and it would say the network cable is unplugged, when it is clearly plugged in. I would have assumed it was an error wit... Read more

A few days ago my wife's computer started giving us a "limited or no connectivity" message with regard to our wireless connection. (Interestingly, we could access another wireless connection, not our own, that appeared in the list of available networks, though of course the signal was weak. But the connection, at least, did work, so we knew the wireless capability still existed.)

After waiting in vain for the problem to fix itself, I did some research on Google and found that according to many people, a sure-fire way to fix this problem was to uninstall Windows XP Service Pack 2. Sure enough, our connection was restored.

This was about an hour ago. Unfortunately, though the connection is restored, it's intermittent. It keeps going out, and we have to keep reconnecting every five to ten minutes. (This even though most of the time it says "signal strength: excellent.")

So while I've restored her wireless connection, I can't help thinking that my so-called solution may in some way have contributed to this annoying problem of intermittent connection. I can't really imagine anyone has reported such a problem before, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Can anyone suggest where we might go from here?

I considered resetting the router, but I've read so many horror stories about that that I figured I wouldn't.

Hi,
I have an Acer 3680 laptop running Vista Home basic SP1. It uses an
Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter, connecting to an Actiontec MI524WR router.
I can connect to the internet fine with an ethernet cable. But when I connect wirelessly,
it connects for a minute or so. Then I get "limited connectivity", it will time out. Then
it will work again for a few mintes. It repeats every couple minutes and is very frustrating.
I have tried it at a public place, and the wireless works flawlessly. I have had a friend stop by with his laptop (using XP), and it worked fine on my router.
So I think its a problem with the
way my adapter and router work together. I am using WEP security. The only cordless phone nearby is on a different frequency.
I have tried talking to my internet provider, but after changing a few settings, they sent me to Acer.
No help, since the computer is out of warranty (about a year and a half old).

I have the windows firewall disabled. My guess is that some process times it out every so often. Is there

Hi,

My in-laws' computer has been acting strangely, including going from fully connected via ethernet to the broadband router, to having limited or no connectivity. The IP Address changes from a 192.168 range to an automatic private address (172 range).

Rebooting fixes that, but it happens repeatedly.

Since then, I've manually killed the dcsm.exe (Drive Cleaner) process and deleted the file.

The connection speed via DSL is only about twice dialup speed, too.

Any ideas?

My laptop has recently run into a "limited or no connectivity" issue and can not access my network. The problem started yesterday for no apparent reason. I was connecting to my network and the internet fine, and I left so my little brother could play Age of Empires. When I came back, I got the limited connectivity problem and could no longer get online.

I have tried many things to solve this and nothing is working. These are the things I have tried:

-Resetting computer and router
-Repairing the connection
-Moving closer to the signal
-Trying to connect online through an ethernet cable instead of wireless
-Switching to a different wireless card
-Using the Winsock xp fix program
-Checking my drivers (all of them are in working condition)

None of the above were solutions to this problem, no matter what I do, I still get the limited or no connectivity message.

My router is not able to assign my laptop an ip address. The 'repair' option does not finish because it says that it was unable to renew my ip address. All of the other computers on the network are working fine, it is only my laptop that has problems.

I really need suggestions as to what to do next, I really want to get this fixed.

I want to avoid assigning a static ip address; I am on my dad's work network, as he works from home. A static ip address is a big security issue in my dad's eyes and I would like to find a solution without having to assign a static ip address.

I recently installed Windows 8.1 Pro on my laptop. I immediately starting seeing some issues Internet wise. Whenever I would have multiple tabs open, my connection would become "Limited". As you see, this would start to become a very annoying after time. Then recently I've been attempting to Skype with my friends while simultaneously playing games with them. Literally every 30 seconds it would become "Limited". I looked up a troubleshoot guide online and I followed it step by step but the last step instructed me to do something that my computer didn't have the option to do, I can't think of the exact step know. But Thanks in advance.

Newbie with a big network problem is saying "Hello" to every1 in this forum.

I was surfing last three days on the Web and have tried tens of tests trying to resolve my problem and no success so far.

So I decided to search here for luck, perhaps a miracle will happen. Otherwise I am facing system reinstall and this will be disaster due to all data and software I will need to copy and reinstall.

Let me briefly tell you what happened:

A several days ago long time not seen BSOD said "hello, I'm here" to me. I thought that I'll restart my comp and after its self test everything will go back to normal.

Unfortunately I was wrong because BSOD started to visit me more and more often.

I know that anything can cause BSOD so I decided to perform memory test. I did let computer do it and amazingly I got message that everything is OK but my comp was still crashing. I decided to perform one more memory test to be 100% sure that it is not memory problem.

I removed all 4 RAM chips from slots, put one of them back in slot and started computer. Guess what happened? Nothing. Computer could not boot. I put it in another slot and had exactly the same result: nothing. I put next 3 chips in the same slots one after one and computer was booting flawlessly. No crashes. 3 chips (6Gig) back in slots - no any problem. After adding first one - problems and crashes.

So now I have 3 RAM memory chips (6Gig) working. No problem with booting, no problem with crashes.

This problem suddenly occurred 4 days ago after over two years of problem-free connectivity.
I have spent nearly a week browsing forums to try and fix this before posting here.
I am running an XP Pro SP2 desktop, ZoneAlarm w/ medium firewall, ISP is AT&T DSL, wired directly to Motorola modem, IE6 browser, SP2 installed long before this problem occurred, Windows update KB951748 was uninstalled long before this problem occurred. Never had a problem like this before.

**Now the interesting factor is this: when I plug the wired connection into my wife's laptop, an internet connection is established and everything works just fine. She is also running XP Pro SP2.

I have tried the fixes posted on the web and the problem is still not resolved:
reset modem, reboot PC
ipconfig /release & /renew
'repair connection' utility
disable firewall
uninstall, reinstall firewall
run WinXPFix
remove & reinstall NIC drivers
"netsh winsock reset" from command prompt
System Restore from a previous restore point
ran complete ZoneAlarm system scan, Adaware, Spybot
replaced NIC and no success
contacted ISP and no success

I am thinking the only remaining resolution is a fresh XP install
Is there anything else I can try before heading down this road?
Thanks,
Pat

Hi All,

I have tried now with 2 different laptops and have gotten the same results when hooking up the ethernet cable.

"This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the Internet because the network did not assign a network address to the computer"

I am just unplugging this cable from my desktop that is working fine.

The laptop is an IMB ThinkPad T41, running XP w/SP2.

I have Charter cable w/a Motorola Surfboard Modem and no router at all.

When plugging in the cable it tries to obtain an ip address but cannot achieve one and gives me the above error message.

I did download and install the updated network card drivers as well with no success.

And also, I am set to obtain" ip address" as well as "dns server" automatically.

I probably am overlooking something really simple and silly since both laptops have the same problem.
And help anyone can provide will help me from going even further insane after this.

A:Another "limited or no connectivity" problem?

hi,
Have u tried to restart the modem (u didnt mention this in ur post) and leave it off for 10-20seconds.

U could try to get the ip adress, and dns server from the laptop which works, and copy them into the other laptops.
to do this open "run" and type cmd. next type ipconfig /all
Copy down the relevent date (ip address, default gateway, subnet mask, dns server)

Go into the laptops that won't connect and open control panel, network connections, right click on ur connection, and click on "internet protocol" (i think that right, im runnin vista and cant remember xp that well), it should open a screen with ip address. Click on use this ip adress and type it in, along witht the dns servers.
If ur connection works, then ur computer may not be able to assaing an ip address/dns servers automatically.

U could try clearing the dns cach. goto run and type: ipconfig /flushdns or try to disable and re-enable ur network card, and c if that helps. (like above, but instead of right clicking ur conection, click diable, then enable)

Hope this helps,
Marv

I'm pretty sure this is as a result of malicious spyware; if anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated.

Anyways, everytime I log on I get a message from my computer which says I have "Limited or no Connectivity" and I cannot access the internet. the only reason i am able to post this thread is because we have a secondary computer in the house which CAN access the internet at this time.

Anyhow, I've tried unplugging the router, resetting router settings, etc., and I'm convinced it's spyware this time.

A system restore used to fix the problem, but after a couple days the limited or no connectivity message would be back and I'd have no internet once again. Nowadays system restores to absolutely nothing to remedy the problem.

I was able to run steps 1, 4, and 5 in the 'READ THIS!' post, but steps 2 and 3 were impossible for me because that computer has no internet access.

However, I have been able to download HijackThis and save a log file and import that log file to this computer. Below is the exact logfile:

Ok, first off I would just like to say that this is my first thread post on this forum so sorry if I have done something wrong or am missing vital information. My problem is that I am trying to connect to my college campus's wireless internet. I will give more specific details in a bit. Basically, I was watching YouTube before going to class and shut down my PC before I left. I was connected to the internet then and it was working fine. When I got back is when I started getting problems. I booted up my computer as I usually do but instead of automatically connecting to my school's network, it didn't connect at all. When I go down to the wifi signal on the bottom right and choose the network and hit connect, it fails. This is what it reads: "Windows was unable to connect to (network name.)" I have tried going to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections and disabling and enabling everything and that did not work. I should also tell you that all the devices in this window have a red "X" next to them. I also tried all of Windows "troubleshooting problems." What I don't get is that my phone connects just fine, as well as everyone else on campus. I'm getting a bit frustrated because I am quite knowledgeable when it comes to computers and this sort of thing. I even custom built my own desktop at home. Here are the specs of the laptop I am having trouble with:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4810M... Read more

Hey guys, I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with my wireless connection on my W7 laptop and was hoping for some troubleshooting tips.

First off, here are the relevant specs:

- HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop computer (Windows 7 Ultimate)
- Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (Network adapter)
- Speedstream 6520 (Wireless DSL router)

Recently, I've been experiencing a problem where my wireless Internet connection randomly goes from "Internet access" status to "No Internet access" status. Sometimes it also goes to "Limited access". The (!) yellow exclamation point shows up on the wireless icon in the right-hand taskbar corner.

I can fix this temporarily by turning the wireless switch off and back on again (I have a physical switch on my laptop), which brings back the Internet access. But after about 15 minutes give or take, the connection fails again. It is an extremely frustrating occurrence that now happens every 15 minutes without fail.

Things that might be causing this:
- Recently changed my SSID
- Recently disabled SSID broadcast to prevent neighbors from seeking out my connection

Things I've done to try fixing the problem that have not worked:
- Changing SSID again
- Enabling SSID broadcast
- Changing the router's channel (I've tried channels 11, 10, 6, 2)
- Checking the power setting on my network adapter to make sure it wasn't shutting off on low power
Any help? Thanks a lot in advance, guys. By the way, I also have an Ethernet-linked des... Read more

The other is if you don't have IPV6 addresses working then disable the IPV6 component of your nic in the Control Panel settings for the Network Card.

Hi and Greetings from Lima, Peru !!!!

I am trying to help my daughter who has a VAIO SVE1511PGXS laptop running Windows 7 64 Bits Home Premium with a weird problem in that the available nearby WIFI networks are not "SEEN" or shown when hovering the mouse over the WIFI icon on the task bar.

If you add a WIFI network by hand the laptop will connect and work normally but if you move to another location and need to change to a different access point the available networks will not show and you need to enter the network again manually. INSSIDER or similar programs will show available networks without a problem.

The laptop has a QUALCOMM ATHEROS AR9485WB-EG wireless/bluetooth combination card and have already tried updating the drivers (to bothe the SONY website version and the Qualcomm version) with no results.

Have uninstalled Sony's EASY CONNECT and Smart Network and also unistalled/reinstalled the Client for Microsoft Networks as suggested in several places but problem persists. The WIFI service (WLAN AUTO CONFIG) starts automatically and does not report errors.

Have also tried resetting WINSOCK and TCPIP but no dice....

My daughter is not sure when this problem started (several months ago) but she believes it happened after installing a group of Windows updates several weeks ago....

At this point it would appear to be that the only remedy would be a full Windows 7 reinstall but my daughter has TONS of email, pictures, documents. etc and reinstallin... Read more

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

Hey folks,

My first post on here but I'm in serious trouble. I got a "new" (to me anyway) desktop running XP today and found the audio hardware wasn't working. So I pillaged an old machine for its sound card, and inserted that onto the motherboard. Also connected the Aux and CD lines to the top of the daughterboard.

Since then, to my horror, the machine has failed to boot. All plugged in, keyboard working, screen on and being used on another box for this very post. All I get now is the usual chirps from the internal soundcard followed by a few very low notes, definitely depressing so I guess they're suggesting something's failed. There's no further action from the CPU, the fan still works, but there is no screen output whatever.

Have I fried the motherboard without realising?!

Also, ironically, the last failure tone was delivered by my speakers through the originally non-responsive audio hardware!

I'd love a bit of help on this one, because my knowledge of computers' insidey bits is pretty poor.

Many thanks,

Joe.
