Preferred Solution: What systems will Dell support with Windows 10?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

anyone a nice list view of supported systems or how I could find out myself on Dell's site?

A:Which Dell systems support the i7 2600k and 2700k?

Probably only the XPS 8300/Vostro 460/Optiplex 790 & 990 supports it, but the "K" version won't do you any good since you cannot overclock.  The only systems that allow overclocking are the Alienwares as far as I know.

(Please pardon my redundancy - I have posted this to the Customer Care Board and Client Service forums - just hoping to correct what I hope was an accidental change in support policy.)
This is not a technical comment but it is a comment about Dell's Technology Support. Recently the support site for laptops, and I presume other areas though I have not checked, was revised to change its structure. In the process many items were removed notably having to do with drivers for older systems. Even if a system is past warranty that does not remove the responsibility for Dell to continue to provide the most recent (even if old) drivers especially since the cost of doing so is trivial. This is especially the case when Dell is the only source for specific drivers. A specific example is a Dell Vostro 3700 laptop which uses the embedded GPU in the CPU as well as outboard nVidia GPU; the hybrid video architecture is such that NVidia provides no driver and re-directs users to Dell's site. In the case of this specific model, most of the drivers that were present a month ago are now gone.
Dell laptops have two things going for them - good products at a good price and a great support site. This has prompted me to continue focusing upon Dell - e.g. two new 5759's in 2017, and to recommend Dell to colleagues and friends. I have had recent occasion to review some very old systems on HP's support site - all relevant drivers continue to be available. I strongly recommend that Dell c... Read more

I have 2 Dell Optiplex GX260s I purchased used from a university. One is a slimline, the other is a mid-tower. Both hard drives were wiped by the university. Both will not install Win XP. When the install CD is inserted, "Press any key to boot from CD..." is displayed. Then "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration" is displayed for about 5 seconds. Then the display goes blank and the HDD light remains on steady. The PC will remain in that state and not install. I have left the machine on overnight to see if anything would happen.

Here is what is strange:
1. The WinXP install disk works fine on another machine. (home built)
2. Fedora 7 linux installs and runs fine. (Ubuntu does not)
3. BOTH PCs have the same issue which leads me to believe that it is not a hardware issue with the machine.

Any suggestions? I suspect it is something with the Dell hardware configuration but what? Thanks.

A:Start up error message-systems support protection

Hello clentfer

Welcome to TSF

I would need full system specs and to know if you have installed, updated, deleted or had any issues lately or just before
this happened before i can give you a definate resolution!

In the mean time try this

1. Restart PC tapping F8 until you get into the Boot Options menu

2. Select Safe Mode With Command Prompt

3. Once loaded, in Command Prompt type chkdsk /F /R and press enter

4. This should repair your disk, Reboot and if there error message appears follow steps 1 - 3

5. Instead of typing chkdsk /F /R type chkdsk C: /F /R and press enter

6. Again Reboot to see if that has rectified the issue

I just finished a two-day marathon that started with McAfee Techmaster and migrated to Microsoft Support.  8 1/2 hours on Sunday, 2 hours today.  The latest Windows 10 Update apparently had some problems, resulting in the disabling of the Start icon, Cortana, Notifications Icon and more.  McAfee could not figure it out apparently, and the first online, chat Microsoft IT support person totally failed after nearly four hours of effort.  Another couple of hours on the phone with another Microsoft IT expert looked like a success until I encountered another glitch this morning with my Outlook Contacts being missing and some kind of restore function returning them but then I could not sign back into the computer.  So, the last person I spoke with resolved that problem, and the laptop seems to be operating normally.
My question is whether or not Dell Support personnel are trained and have access to Microsoft command codes, etc. to remedy Windows 10 problems?  If not, I am beginning to think that a person needs multiple support contracts to handle all the various problems encountered by PCs and Windows Operating Systems - as opposed to Apple.
If I am correct, I would need the following tech support contracts:
Microsoft for Windows 10; Dell for Dell-specific problems; McAfee for security-related problems, and maybe someone else to deal with "all the rest"?
If someone could clarify this issue, it would be appreciated.  I paid for a four-year... Read more

On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem.
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

I am going to preform a factory wipe and reset  on my Dell Inspiron 530 which has windows Vista Home Premium installed. My question is will I have problems downloading any of the factory software and drivers or update the system if windows is not supporting Vista ? This is my first time doing this and any advice will be appreciated. Thank You.

A:Does windows support windows vista after a factory reset on Dell Inspiron 530

Microsoft have ditched support for all IE versions earlier than 11 and only allowed up to version 9 on Vista. Google have also ditched Chrome support for this operating system. Office 2013/2016/Windows Live Essentials all do not support Windows Vista.
Consider the Operating System at End of Life.
Theres no official free upgrade path to Windows 10 TH2 however you may use the unofficial 10130 Upgrade path. The Inspiron 530 runs Windows 10 64 Bit TH2 well.

I purchased a Dell XPS 8300 almost 1 year ago. The last couple months I have had boot issues when I turn the pc on. All hardware tests (since I purchased the pc have passed with no problems). The boot issues are where all the icon's for the short cuts do not load and or the icon to show I am connected to the internet does not load properly. If I try to do alt/control/delete I cannot access anything. Then in most cases if I do a hard re-boot,the computer boots properly.

Today was the killer. My wife turned on the pc and she got a blank screen. She then attempted a hard re-boot and for over 3 hr's it showed "loading game" on the middle of the screen. When I came home for lunch,my wife was on the phone with Dell. After they had her do a hard re-boot,the computer booted properly (after the usual "start windows normally" option came up. The "tech" connected on the pc and basically did all the things I could think of (i.e. hardware test to really check the hard drive etc.)

When the "tech" could not fiqure out any other issue,he said that we will need to re-set to factory settings and that they are sending us a usb key to do that. In his judgement, there is a problem with the install of Windows 7 and that is the only thing that they can figure out is the problem. Outside of the "booting issues" the pc has worked great and I have had no other problems.

Lately, I've heard some people say that the Unix code is more secure than the Windows code and that the Windows code has many holes and bugs in it. Before, I always thought Unix systems (for example, Mac) were less likely to get infected by viruses only because they had a lower market share. However, I'm starting to wonder if the Unix code is really more secure than the Windows code. Is this true? Also, does the Windows code really have that many bugs and holes in it?

A:Are Unix systems more secure than Windows systems?

It is rather debatable, its harder to compare two completely different codes and say one is flawed and one is not.

Though Unix/Linux does appear to be a bit more secure, which is why Apple's OS X (their baby), is based on a unix-code.

I just discovered that Dell has decided not to include my Studio XPS 8100 desktop for upgrades to Windows 10!  Why is this?  I have had Dell products for over 25 years and I have kept coming back because of my experience with Dell.  Unfortunately, this latest piece of news has just taken the wind out of my sails!  It appears that my only recourse is to by a new desktop!

A:Studio XPS 8100 = Why won't Dell support Windows 10 for this model?

The offer of a free upgrade from Win7/8.x to 10 comes from Microsoft, not DeLL.
Are you saying that DeLL has advised you that something in that system's hardware [software, or drivers] setup in not compatible with Win 10?   That's the only plausible explanation that comes to mind.
EDIT:   I believe some people have done so successfully... and hopefully one of them will reply here.

I have a household with Two Dell desktops and Three laptops the oldest laptop being a 37 month old N5110.  Kids in school you know the drill.  Of course the oldest is mine, the purchaser, the N5110, After reading about Dell not supporting this product for Windows 10 software update. I pulled my old Sony from the retired computer pile in my home office, and with a few auto updates I got a reservation for Windows 10,  So this past week I decided that if Dell drops the N5110 upgrade path I'm dropping Dell from my approved vendor list, Designating Dell to be just another Apple, stranding its customers by not providing a migration path.  The reasoning behind the Intel / Microsoft PC compared to alternatives in the 80;s was the future upgrades.  I have the Intel CPU & MS O/S but I guess I screwed up by purchasing Dells.
Oh I even tried the BIOS fix,  I already have that version installed.  I guess I just wait to see what Dell does after reading N5110 post I'm afraid that I'll have to select another Vendor, I did it to Apple in the 80's, But I'll stay with Windows and find another preferred hardware vendor if they strand this laptop with no future.  I think it is funny that someone defined the laptop lifecycle at three years at dell. Plus I use Dells in the office.

A:N5110 Windows 10 upgrade and lack of Dell support

I have a similar problem.  The only laptop i have is N5110 Inspiron. It was one of the best configurations of that time.
I am very much unhappy about the BIOS compatibility issue which stops me upgrading to windows 10.
I blame both Microsoft and Dell for this. Now its like none of them wants to take up the responsibility to provide a fix. If this has to be the trend in future it will become a norm to washout devices after every 3 years. Which is not value for money.
I hope dell comes up with a upgrade to BIOS or they reachout to Microsoft to fix the issue and upgrade on what ever is existing. I know its not a joke  cause every hour spent writing that code for a 1 person would cost too much of money. But again its  their duty.

Hi,

After much hesitation I finally decided to "upgrade" my system to Windows 10 after much Microsoft nagging.
However, after this upgrade I no longer see anything of the regular Dell services that check my computer for optimal performances. I have another year or so of support but when I tried to log in I did find one service question I got answered some months ago which basically verifies my account and at least the 9020 (I also have an older registered Latitude 6400 desktop) but no way to know how to get back to my original status. In fact I received an email saying "Thanks for creating your Dell account" (in Dutch) which only seems to indicate that something is terribly wrong.

What must I do? Try and reverse my upgrade to Windows 10 and move back to Windows 8.1 ???
I went to the place where I supposedly could download the factory installed software for my optiplex 9020 but somehow I never got beyond the stage of trying to update my password. No matter what I typed in,the screen came back with the same fill-in bit to change one's password. After half a dozen different tries I gave up.

But I do want my link to Dell back, I loved the regular checkups of my system that now seem eliminated by upgrading to Windows 10. Please help???

I ran the F12 diagnostics & it found a problem in Hard ware. I took it to a local service center (not authorised) in India & they formatted the hard drive. Post which, they installed a temporary windows 8 software & asked me NOT TO UPDATE. Now my laptop does not have the normal factory configuration & i have lost all dell diagnostics support & windows apps which were factory installed. I need to install a clean version of Windows 7 or 8. Can anyone guide me how to do this? I understand that the product key is encrypted by Dell in BIOS for all machines after 2012 or something.

Hi all, Ive followed the instructions given to me by Tech support and gone to the link listed under my Service Tag where there is the option to download my Windows 8.1 ISO image along with instructions which Ive printed off.
I will be installing from a USB flash drive and the instructions to create the bootable USB installation media are straight forward and easy to follow using Diskpart. Then simply Mount the image and copy all files over onto the USB flash drive.
Im a little confused though when reading the instructions under How to Reinstall Windows 8.1. there are two options PCs with BIOS boot mode and PCs with UEFI boot mode. I purchased my Inspiron laptop late 2015 so it has UEFI boot mode with Secure Boot. Under the UEFI boot instructions it talks about disabling Secure Boot and for USB installation media set Boot order to Internal ODD device. I don't understand..a USB flash drive isnt an Internal ODD device as far as im aware.
So without doing anything to System Setup Ive tried inserting a flash drive, tapping F12. It says UEFI boot mode and Secure Boot is enabled and the flash drive is listed second one down underneath my Toshiba hard disc. It seems to me that I have to follow the instructions for PCs with BIOS boot mode even though my system is UEFI boot mode!! Am I missing something here?

Hello
I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600.  The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error
"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."
My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??
So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?
thanks for any help, david

I am very concerned. My laptop is consistently taking forever to start and/or freezing. Is it possible to uninstall anything dell related? Or how do I fix it? I created a system report from the system information module if that would be helpful I can send it. The event log keeps complaining about the Dell applications listed below as reasons it is failing:

I am no expert here, but it looks like the Update service is looking for a Recovery partition which may hold the WinRE tools.  On my current system, that would be partition 4 but it could be different on yours.  Running the command below in an administrative command prompt should show what partition is configured for the Tools.
reagentc /info
Have you made any changes to your drive configuration?  The reagentc info should show the same partition the Update Utility is looking for.

PC: Dell Inspiron 15 3542
OS: Windows 8.1
Problem:  I am unable to download drivers from the dell support website
Dell System Detect has been successfully installed on my PC.  It's icon is present in the system tray.  Inspite of this I am repeatedly getting the message that I need to download and re-install the Dell System Detect software.  No matter how many times I install it as the administrator, I get the same message.  I am unable to accomplish anything on the Dell Support Website.
I have looked for a problem with the software on my laptop.  Sfc scans do not detect any problems with missing or corrupt windows software.  What else can I do to correct this frustrating glitch?

I purchased two almost identical Dell XPS laptop, one 15" and one 13", for the purpose of back up each other.  If one computer is down, the other is still running.  The 15" runs fine, the 13" with the same hardware set up is full of problems.  The 13" wireless keep drop in and out of the wifi while the 15" has no problem at the same location.  The 13" keep have this notification "dell update ready to install".  After the install, the computer is crashed 5 times with blue screens.  Both computers are 3 months old, and I asked Dell to send  a replacement while they could repair the 13".  I keep sending them the pictures of the crash blue screen. But they refuse to send me a replacement.  Dell insists they will send a technician to my place for the repair.  That means I cannot work for that day: I travel and visit client as my job.  I have worked on it for 4 hours. How many hours do I need to work to fix the *** computer?

I will keep everyone posted of this.  And every time when the computer crash, I am going to make a call and ask for replacement.  Lets see how many times I should try to get any answer.

Dell Support "Assist" just ran without giving me an option to stop, pause, or control in anyway.  It was using nearly all computer resources (I could barely save the word document I had open at the time).  This isn't "assist" more like computer take over.

How can I control the S. "Assist"?  How can I adjust the time between it's runs (currently it looks like monthly)?  After finishing it's scan or whatever it finally closed (cuz it wouldn't close the 20 times or so I clicked the "X").  I then opened it, looking for some results of the scan, and found none.  How can I view results?

Right now, seems like worthless bloatware.

Also, there is not a [New Post] button on the Laptop Forum (at least for me).

I got a DELL Inspiron 7559 in July 2017. The rear left corner is already pulling a part at the seam. It doesn't seem to be the hinge, but it does pull further a part when opening and closing the screen.
I called DELL support. Even though the computer is only 5 months old, this problem isn't covered under warranty.
Online, it looks like several other 7559 buyers have experienced the exact same problem. It seems unethical of DELL to have a recurring manufacturing problem and refuse to repair it.
Any suggestions on options to get the split repaired without spending $140?

TO USERS OF DELL LAPTIOS WITH DELL WEBCAM CENTRAL SOFTWARE:
IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS SOFTWARE, PLEASE REPLY TO THIS POST WITH YOUR COMPUTER MODEL AND THE VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE THAT IS INSTALLED ON IT.
DELL IF YOU ARE READING THIS FORUM, YOU KNOW ABOUT THE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS YOUR USERS ARE HAVING WITH DELL WEBCAM CENTRAL, WHICH ARE BEING REPORTED IN THE DELL LAPTOP VIDEO FORUM AND ON NOTEBOOKREVIEW.
THE PROBLEMS ARE THE FOLLOWING:

FOR MANY USERS, THE SOFTWARE DOESN'T WORK OR DOESN'T WORK RELIABLY.
ON VERSION 1.40.28, 1.40.38, 1.40.42, 1.40.52, WHICH COMES ON THE M4600, THERE IS AN ANTI-MOTION BLUR SETTING, WHICH IF ENABLED, BREAKS THE WEBCAM COMPLETELY. THE SETTING CANNOT BE CLEARED BECAUSE IT DISAPPEARS! EVEN DEINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT CLEAR THE SETTING.
THERE IS NOWHERE TO DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.40.28, 1.40.38, 1.40.42, 1.40.52 OF THE SOFTWARE ON THE DELL WEBSITE.
THE SOFTWARE IS NOT AVAILABLE IN "MY DELL DOWNLOADS", EVEN THOUGH IT WAS INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY.
THE SOFTWARE IS NOT AVAILABLE IN DRIVERS AND DOWNLOADS.
THERE IS ANOTHER VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE (1.40.05, 1.40.35) WHICH IS AVAILABLE (IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO LOOK FOR IT), BUT IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE WEBCAM ON THE M4600. DELL TECHNICAL SUPPORT INSTALLED THIS VERSION ON MY M4600. IT DOES NOT WORK, BUT I COULD NOT COMPLETELY DEINSTALL IT.
THE DEINSTALLATION UTILITIES FOR THE SOFTWARE DO NOT WORK PROPERLY, LEAVING BEHIND REGISTRY ENTRIES, AND FILES IN C:\Program Files (... Read more

Yesterday I clean installed the Dell factory image using reset PC. All went well but when I checked Reliability History it showed an unsuccessful application reconfiguration warning for Dell Data Vault when Dell Support Assist was installed. During Dell Support Assist installation there was an earlier successful application installation and reconfiguration of Dell Data Vault (version 4.3.7.0) but that was successfully removed 15 minutes later for Dell Data Vault (version 4.3.8.0) ...this was when the unsuccessful application reconfiguration warning was flagged. At the same time  a successful application removal message for Dell data Vault (version 4.3.8.0). is also shown. Im not sure if that means now that I don't have Dell Data Vault installed.
Is this anything to be concerned about? Im not even sure what Dell Data Vault does. Is there anything I need to do or will it successfully update itself later on?

Hello guys:
This is going to be my first post, so please execuse any errors

I was just curious about how to make a seperate recovery partition using norton ghost, so you can boot from it, and restore your pc to it's original state (or the factory default), in case your system crashes. These days, pretty much all of dell systems come with recovery partition included in them. I foud this tool very useful comparing to clean installation of windows.

Now that I am building a complete new system, I thought it would be very useful to include this kind of partition in my system. I thought it will be a good idea to find a little more informatiton about this, before I by the norton ghost software .

I have a Dell M6300 laptop running Vista Ultimate x86 that I want to ugprade to Ultimate x64. I currently use Embassy Trust Suite on this laptop (with Vista Ultimate x32) for hardware authentication. My HDD and system are locked by passwords which are both mapped to my fingerprint. The hardware authentication is the only functionality I use it for.

The 2.1.2.25 version of Embassy Trust Suite is available from Dell for my model but it doesn't appear to be x64 compatible. It lists only Vista x86.

Embassy has a full version on their website but it references the TPM driver from my manufacturer.

Does anyone out there have an M6300 running an x64 version of Vista? Buhler? Buhler? Anyone? I would appreciate the benefit of anyone's experience.

Hello Einstellung,
I highly dought you will be able to use that feature if you upgrade. If there is no driver available for it, then it will not be able to use it. Try to search on dell for a driver for that but i dont think you will find one.
Also, you are going to downgrade, not upgrade!!

Sorry,
Ben

will any brand hard drive work on dell desktop systems??

A:will any brand hard drive work on dell desktop systems

Hm im not sure, i own a dell and i'm pretty sure you can use any type of drive so long as your computer supports it. Such as, dont get a sata drive if you dont have sata connectors. I'm pretty sure any IDE drive would work with a Dell. However Dells tend to be on the cheaper side and dont always have expansion bays for a second (or third) hard drive . Open your case or look at your manual to make sure you have room for expansion before buying one. If you don't, simply buy an external one that connects VIA usb. Because I think firewire doesnt come standard on most dells.
