New L560 issue (Intel boot agent) (W7P)

Q: New L560 issue (Intel boot agent) (W7P)

So i just bougth a brand new L560 Thinkpad and got a small problem. It all started when the laptop just frooze and the only thing was to press and hold the power button to shut it down. At first i couldn´t start windows properly so i had to switch to safe mode. After that it started normally but now i keep seeing the intel boot agent on startup: PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cablePXE- MOF: Exiting intel boot agent. The only thing i can recall doing was to upgrade the BIOS the other day. But everything was ok during the upgrade. The computer works fine now but i´m pretty sure the startup messages wasn´t there the first times i started the computer. Any ideas? The laptop is just 3 days old...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, any ideas please - I replaced x230 laptop fan now several problems:1) Replacement fan bought from ebay. Seller said x220 and x230 fans are compatable. My original had 3 wire plug and a bracket arm, the new one has 4 wire plug and a stud arm. I had to fit it stud to stud.2) Replaced CMOS battery.3) Power on goes to logo > 'entering set up' > time and date error and fan error message> shuts down.4) Tried various fixes to restart, such as, charged CMOS battery for 12 hours, took out HD and battery, completed eletrical discharge, removed CMOS battery for 1 minute and started again without HD and battery, reseated the RAM card, used all combinations of F keys. They look hopeful but all return to error messages.5) Only delete or Ctl+S opens > Intel Boot Agent Set up Menu >F4 >back to error messages, shuts down6) This screen provides diagnostic support information but I don't know what it means.7) Should I use the CMOS pin jumper? Hope someone will reply.Thank you.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have recently been getting this error that when I try to start Windows a error will pop up say that the Intel Boot Agent has failed. I have no idea what the Intel Boot Agent is and wondering why it is stopping me from entering Windows. I tried to reformat but it just didn't do the trick. I recently resetted all my BIOS and it would work once in a while but it does go back to the error after. I was wondering if any of you can help me that would be awesome!

Error looks like this:

Intel Boot Agent Version 4.0.17

So i managed to fix the NTLDR problem with the help of some people on here (sorry i forgot your name, thanks though). But as always i get another problem, i swear thats what computers were designed for, to make you get grey hair quicker, anyway to the point!

The strange thing is my computer works fine, no problem at all! So why am i asking for help, well its because of this:-

Everytime i boot up my computer i get no beep from the POST test, so that indicates a problem to me! Then it goes ''intiaizling Intel boot agent version 2.2 press ctrl + s to enter'' well i just leave it and carry on as normal, then it goes to a blank screen for 30 seconds then it loads fine!

But sometimes it also gives me this mumbo-jumbo:-

RPL-ROM-ADR: 00D0 B716 7F1D

RPL-ROM-FFC: (then it goes from 1-200)

So instead of being lazy i researched it, and from the results i got it indicates that it is trying to boot from another computer on the network or something like that, not to sure! So it suggests to go into the BIOS!

But the problem is i can't get into the BIOS it doesn't say press so and so on the boot screen, it only shows me the Intel agent thingy!

So although my computer boots up, it could be healthier, i would appreciate any help?

I have a Gateway 2004 Intel 4 with Microsoft xp. I used the Dban to put my computer back to what it was at its original. I want to put the computer in a garage sale and that is why I cleaned the files out. Now I get the following when I turn it on: "Intel(R) Boot Agent FE v4 1.16; Copyright (C) 1997-2--4, Intel Corporation; Intel (R) Boot Agent PXE Base Code (PXE-21 building 084) CLIENT MAC ADDR: 0011 11 d0 0315 GUID; 60d34c87 e51d b211 8000 bf6c71c486f6; PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.

Okay so the other day, my grandpa called me, telling me that he had a gift- A laptop. Upon receiving it, i realized that it was a fairly old Toshiba Satellite laptop (A15-S129) from the Philippines. After a week or so, i realized that it was still only XP with service pack 2, so i went up to microsoft update, and started trying to update it. Then i got into a bunch of junk about it being non-genuine Windows, because it did not match the region it was currently in (usa). So i abandoned my quest to update drivers and such, and accepted it. Then today, i started getting messages from the comp as it restarted a few times, warning me that it was in danger because it wasn't genuine.
Now, it won't start up.. Instead, I get this message:
Intel(R) Boot Agent FE v4.1.09
Copyright (C) 1997-2002, Intel Corporation
PXE-E61: Mddia test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
Insert system disk in drive.
Press any key when ready....

I do not have a windows XP disk, but i'm going to go get one from my uncle tomorrow. Luckily, i have nothing saved on there except a good game of Shogun: Total War. If i put the disk in and reload Windows, will my problems be fixed? Also, the battery only lasts about 5 minutes. How can i fix that?

I don't know if this is a question for the Win2K forum or the Linux one...but here goes...

I have an older, hand-me-down, Compaq Armada laptop with Win2K loaded on it. However, the drive was partitioned to dual boot Mandrake. The W2K Disk managment tool shows 3 additional partitions besides the NTFS drive.

I would like to get rid of those partitions & Mandrake (I have a new version of SuSe on my other computer now) to give that little laptop more hard drive space, but I don't want to destroy the exisiting W2K setup. (I know there are no guarantees, but would like to make that my goal, at least)

The disk managment tool seems to do a pretty good job of re-partitioning and formatting of partitions (so far), but I don't know how to deal with the INTEL Boot Agent. If I take Mandrake off and let W2K format those partitions to NTFS, will it also get rid of the boot agent? Or do I need to uninstall that myself? There seems little point in having it when there are no longer two OSs on that computer.

Any ideas, or advice of how to do this? (Thanks ahead of time :O) OldLadyWho

A:pxe-mof exiting intel boot agent

From another pc if possible.

Download Ubuntu Live CD ISO image and burn the ISO image to a cd using Imgburn (how to burn an ISO image using Imgburn). With the newly burned cd boot with it then select "Try Ubuntu" not "Install Ubuntu" access the Windows partition or what ever partition or hdd you which to backup files from by going to the panel on top, select "Go" click on "Computer". Select the partition, or Hard drive then directories, and files you wish to back up, Backup the files to DVD, an external hard drive or thumb drive(s).

Reboot or turn on the machine. As soon as you see your machine's name logo splash screen keep tapping F8. Go to "Advanced Options" or "Repair Computer" Select your language then "Repair Your Computer" An installation of Windows should be detected after that select "Next"

If that does not fix the issue. Do the same as before go to Next again go to command prompt type in

I am unable to uninstall this driver even in safe mode. can anyone please tell me how to solve this problem.

A:Unable to start intel boot agent

What happens when you try to uninstall in Safe Mode? Why were you unable to do that?

Just right-click the device in Device Manager and choose "Uninstall".

This has nothing to do with any Intel Boot Agent unless you are trying to boot from a network.

Hi chusta What you are trying to do right now is called a "PXE Boot", it's basically a boot from the network. This kind of practice isn't made for home use and is mostly used in companies/entreprises. It's what I do when I have to "push" an image on a new computer. To solve that issue, simply go in your BIOS and disable the "LAN Boot" or the "PXE Boot". Also make sure that your hard drive is the first device in the boot order. What computer brand and model do you have?

Hi there, I acquired a used Thinkpad X230 and want to do a clean installtion and install Win7 instead of the illegal bloatware Win 10 that I got with the machine. Unfortunately, there is no way to get to the Bios to change the boot order to boot from an USB.  I Installed the  Intel utility but see no way to disable the bloody boot agent. Sorry for the maybe dumb question, but i am not into Linux, DOS and giving in programmers commands. I only can handle normal mainstream users apps.  So, is there for a normal user any way to disable the Intel Boot Agent and get to Thinkpad's Bios in order to change the boot order and do a clean install from an USB without Linux Boot Discs and similar stuff?  Answer highly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

I've been reading other threads and posts on intel boot agents, and none them seem to be too similar to my current situation. I recently upgraded my hard drive from a hitachi 20gb ata to a hitachi 160gb ata laptop drive. Everything was working great. Just yesterday, the computer stopped after the intel boot agent (version 3.01 or something) came up on the screen, right before loading the "resuming windows" or "starting windows" white progress bar appears across the bottom of the screen. I don't know what the problem is at all.

I put my old 20gb hd in, and the machine started up properly, no problems. With my old 20gb hd in the internal slot, I attached my 160gb via USB and an external enclosure. The 160gb hd worked fine; I could access various folders. I was also able to get a DOS prompt (can't remember how, think it was after canceling the windows xp cd repair, installation) and I ran "C:windows\chkdsk" and it showed no problems. So, I know its not the hd.

I thought maybe it was an incorrect shutdown or hibernate on the 160gb hd that caused the computer to stop in the first place. However, I can't find the hiberfil.sys or the correct file to erase the hibernate data. I'm not sure if it's the BIOS or a startup/load file on the 160gb. I also don't know if loading the windows xp master cd and running a "repair on windows installation" would work and whether or not that would remove some of my pho... Read more

Hello, I have trouble with my L560 with an Intel L219-V network adapter. It seems to be a known problem, connection is lost, it comes back, disconnects, connects, disconnects and so on.Temporary solution is to reboot the computer, but the issue reappears after a while. Lenovo has already repaired the computer with a new motherboard and RAM (for some reason). It seems this did not fix anything as it has shown up again.  I started searching and it seems to be a known issue, and is usually fixed as per this download: https://support.lenovo.com/ch/sv/downloads/ds121059 HOWEVER... when trying to run this update I get an error. I thought it might have something to do with Windows 10, so I tried a fresh Windows 7 32-bit install. I got another, but a little different error. It says "No update needed", but when I check the NVM Gbe version it is still 0.8. The update is supposed to update 0.8 to 1.3 to fix the connection issue. What am I supposed to do? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Since a few years back my NIC (I291-V) don't work properly anymore. It started to make trouble after NIC was replaced (reason unknown as there was no problem there) during other repair of laptop. I have been trying to fix it but to no success. Have been using Wifi instead. After reboot NIC works fine but it fails after a certain amount of databits have been passing through the NIC. During normal surfing it will work the whole time as the critical data limit will nog be reached but during update of PC <-> NAS i.e. while large data is moved, the NIC will fail and disconnect the LAN.. Quite annouying. Anyone else with the same problem? One solution is to just buy a USB-NIC..

Hi there,
I have windows 8 Enterprise x64 RTM, an asus sabertooth z77 mobo.

I have installed windows 8 in AHCI sata mode and it works flawlessly but I have a solid state drive for caching.

So I backed up my data, changed to RAID mode in BIOS and proceeded to reinstall. Windows 8 installer sees my harddrives in raid mode and continues to install fine. And that's where fine ends.
I get blue screens before the personalization screens start "winload.exe is missing or corrupt". Randomly this morning it just worked, I got to my desktop and started installing drivers - worked fine. Installed RST (beta) - rebooted and bluescreened "a required device is missing or failed".

Now this is where things are unexplainable for me. If I boot to my installation media and quit it at the first chance, the system reboots and boots into windows 8 flawlessly. When I shutdown or restart windows - at the next boot it bluescreens but if I boot from my installation media and quit, then it restarts and boots fine.

Hey everyone! So as the title states I am trying to trouble shoot a company laptop which had its hard drive crash last week. Lenovo sent me a replacement hard drive through my service ticket but after installation it just constantly goes to the boot order menu even after selecting the correct hard drive. Shouldn't this come with Windows 10 already installed? Straight from the factory it came with the OS. I tried booting from a windows 7 disc in case the operating system wasn't on the new hard drive but I get the same issue. It keeps going into a loop for the boot order. When I select something it just takes me back to the menu. Any help here is appreciated. Thank you!

I googled part of the message, and it mentioned something about a user agent...whatever that is. I just want the message(s) to stop popping up! Any help is much appreciated.

User agent info is identifying information about your browser, system, and region plus a unique identifier that your browser sends to websites it visits. I would try resetting your browser if you don't have settings you are worried about losing by doing that.

I'm having some serious issues with my alienware desktop. Its a decently old computer but hasn't provided me with many problems in the past. Recently, however, I had to transport the computer 4 hours to my new apartment. It was working fine literally yesterday, but after the drive I set it back up and it stopped working.

When I try and boot it, it goes through the BIOS as usual but when it gets to the graphics card boot agent it fails abd guves me a PSX check cable error and fails to even launch windows. I tried different graphics cards, HDD's and even sata cables but nothing helped. Is it a problem with a different cable or perhaps the motherboard? Please help, I need this computer for classes and for work.

I also tried changing the boot priorities in the BIOS but that didnt do anything. . .

A:Boot issues with NVidia boot agent

Nvidia boot agent is part of the bios on boards with an nvidia chipset.
PXE error means the computer is trying to boot from the network because
it is not finding a bootable hard drive.
Nothing to do with the graphics.
Make sure the hard drive is actually being detected in the bios and the hard drive
that you are using has windows installed on it.
Check your sata and IDE settings in the bios to make sure the proper
channels are enabled.
A bad CMOS battery may also be an issue for older computers.
That is the small battery on the motherboard.

A:Boot Agent cannot receive boot filename

Such messages typically appear...when the system is trying to do a network boot.

That may happen because the CMOS battery needs to be replaced...in some systems, such will make the system return to default boot options.

I would go into the BIOS and see what the first boot device is...if it's not the hard drive, try to change it and save the changes...then try to boot.

If the change doesn't hold or cannot be accomplished...I would replace the CMOS battery.

My OS is Win XP Professional SP 3
I do not have a windows disk or windows boot disk

I just had a problem that CatByte worked on with me but I apparently gave the "all clear" too soon.

After thinking the computer was clean an error message appeared "Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close"

The computer shut down when I clicked "ok" so upon reboot I ran a Malwarebytes scan. The results are as follows:
Vender Category Item
Trojan.Agent File C:\WINDOWS\sytem32\6to4v32.dll
Trojan.Agent File KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\6to4
Trojan.Agent File C:\WINDOWS\System32\Cerstore.dat

During the Malwarebytes scan Microsoft Security Essentials real time scanner found TrojanDownloader:Win32/Unruy.H

When Malwarebytes was complete I ran a Win Security Essentials scan that was stopped by Antivirus 2010. At that point Win Security Essentials tuned red with an "x" through it and I cannot run it or uninstall it. I did uninstall Malwarebytes as the desk top icon turned into a white box with a blue line at the top. Security Essentials looks the same but as stated before I cannot access the program with any method I know.

I ran the getting started scans with DDS and GMER. The DDS files are attached. GMER will not run. When started it states "GMER did find system modifications that may have been caused... Read more

You appear to have been hit by a new infection.

Please do the following:

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scannin... Read more

Well, to start with I'll let you know about the virus that won't go away... when scanned with AVG it shows a result that never gets deleted called Downloader.Agent.ggt which is located in [1036] VM_13140000 , although when originally scanned the first number [1036] was different I think, but while I've been trying to seed it out through memory dumps and adjusting the paging file size i think it may have moved.I'm not very smart with computer technical info such as what that location means, but I believe it's in my memory and repopulates when I try deleting it. I tried deleting it with AVG, it repopulated even before I scanned again. I tried the "Delete on Re-boot" but that didn't work. Tried deleting in safe mode, no go. When I don't go after it such as with scans, safe-mode rebooting, etc., it decides to gather up some friends and I get more viruses/alerts from AVG scans, which are actually deleted with AVG and don't return. At least, not till I ignore the Downloader.Agent.ggt again. I understand that there are false-positives which pretend to be viruses, but this one is causing serious issues...For one, now when I click & drag files in an explorer window, I get one of those blue-screen crashes in regards to memory, but the computer restarts before I can read the whole thing. I could take a picture with a camera of the screen if you think that info might help. So I can move files around as long as I don't move them fr... Read more

A:A Challenging Issue With A New Virus? Downloader.agent.ggt

I get one of those blue-screen crashes in regards to memory, but the computer restarts before I can read the whole thing. The symptoms you describe could be malware related or they could be due to hardware or overheating problems caused by a failed processor fan, bad memory (RAM), failing power supply, underpowered power supply, CPU overheating, motherboard, video card, faulty drivers, BIOS and firmware problems, dirty hardware, etc. If the computer is overheating, it usually begins to restart on a more regular basis. However, some rootkits can also trigger BSODs, shutdowns and error messages so download and scan with AVG Anti-Rootkit.If your not finding any malware then its sounds like the latter problem. In Windows XP, the default setting is for the computer to reboot automatically when a fatal error or crash occurs. You should be able to see the error by looking in the Event Log. Read "How To Use the Event Viewer Applet". You can then gather more information doing a search of the Event ID number at: "EventID.Net""MonitorWare EventID Database""Windows Security Log Events"."Events and Errors Message Center".An alternative is to turn off the automatic reboot feature so you can actually see the error code/STOP Message when it happens - this is also known as the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD).To change the recovery settings and Disable Automatic Rebooting, go to Start > Run and type: sysdm.cplClick Ok or just press WINKEY + Pause/Break keys to bring up System Properties.Go to the Ad... Hey, thankyou for taking some time out to atleast read this thread. I have a problem which i have not been able to resolve and that is not being able to remove "Rootkit.Agent/Gen".

I fear that because of this my computer is:-
Much Slower
Doesn't close Popups
And Others which i am not aware of

I ran SUPERAntiSpyware which picked it up and i tried to quarantine it. I restarted my computer to save the changes only to find that it had re-appeared again. I have tried to remove it many times using the same quarantine procedure only to find the same results reappearing -
(The "Rootkit.Agent/Gen" appearing again)

I am Running Vindows Vista Business and i have only have Norton 360 as my antivirus (Excluding SUPERAntiSpyware)

Also the place in question which the virus/trojan/malware appears is:-

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIVXserv.sys (group - )
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIVXserv.sys (imagepath - )
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIVXserv.sys (start - )
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIVXserv.sys (type - )

I have read the thread reccomended and have attached the zip file and will post my DDS report now:

There I was, just plugging along and my L560 (bought Jan, 2017) turned off and won't restart.  If I connect the charger cable, the power button flashes 3 times quickly.  If I push/hold the power button for a few seconds, it will stay light for about 6 seconds and then go off.  No fan sounds.  No disk sounds.  Nothing.  I tried the following (resetting the CMOS) and there was no changeUnplug the charger / adapter.Remove the battery. (If your model has a removable battery, not an internal one)Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.Windows 10 (but doesn't even get that far)

A:L560 won't start

Sounds like a real problem.  Are you still under warranty?
If not, I would try removing the memory and try to start.  Do you get the 3-3-1 beep pattern?  If yes, try a different memory chip.

The specifications page list TPM 1.2, the user guide says there's an option for a "Security Chip Selection" in which you can select "descrete ..., however my L560 does not have that selection option and I'm stuck on TPM 2.0 only: I am on the latest BIOS version, 1.34, and I have done a "Setup Defaults" but the option is no where to be found.
