BSOD and Window's Product ID lost...

Q: BSOD and Window's Product ID lost...

Hello,

I've been having a few issues with a new home-built computer (start up occurred on 11/25/2010), specifically BSOD's. Initially, the computer would crash due coming out of hibernation. This has been solved by turning off this feature, for now. In addition, a new problem cropped up yesterday. But first, a bit about the computer:

Computer background info:
-OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
-OEM version, purchased from Fry's Electronics.
-Motherboard: Gigabyte P55A-UD3
-Chipset: Intel i5-760
-RAM: 8gig Corsair XMS3 1600, matched latency
-HD: Seagate Barracuda 1 Tb 7200 rpm 32 Mb cache
-Video Card: NVidia GTX 460 768 MB

As window's updates have been installed the BSOD occurrence has slowed down until yesterday. Here is a chronological list of what happened:

-Computer was turned on, after being turned off since 12/18 as owner was on travel.
- During the first 15 minutes, two BSOD's occurred.
- After the second BSOD, the virus software registration files had become corrupted and required re-install (Kaspersky).
- After the Kaspersky registration files had been uploaded and the computer restarted, the Windows Product ID had been lost and had to be re-entered.
- Once the ID had been re-entered and accepted, Adobe Premiere fails to open fully: it will open to the main screen, but any further commands results in a software hang and the software has to be closed. This is new and had not occurred prior to the second BSOD on 12/31. Also, Window's media viewer will freeze occasionally while watching videos. Again, this is new and had not occurred prior to the second BSOD on 12/31.

Since this issue has cropped up as of 12/31, windows memory tests have been run to verify RAM and no issues have been detected. Temperature of the CPU is within acceptable limits.

I have attached the mini-dump files that have been generated in the the last month and hope that someone can read them and explain to me how to fix my problems.

Thank you in advance
Joe

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Joe and welcome

these were all caused by memory corruption probably because of Kaspersky

I would
1-Remove Kaspersky and replace with Miclsoft Security essentials.

http://support.kaspersky.com/downloa...vremover10.zip

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

2- run memtest to test your memory

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.
Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

A:lost product key for window xp home

Sorry buenf but we can't help you with that. An OEM (preinstalled) version of XP is only meant to be used on the computer it came with, it's the downside of not having to pay the full price of a retail licence. Getting the OEM key to work on another system would be illegal. Your only solution is to buy a retail licence and use the retail product key that comes with it (if you can't activate the OEM version with a retail product key you can phone ms or reinstall from scratch with the retail CD).

I'll close this thread, please refer to the forum rules.

After receiving a Microsoft product update notification pop up on my screen earlier this evening, II clicked on the suggested Microsoft update product, downloaded, and installed it. I can't even remember the program I downloaded. However, when I tried to retrieve my email, I noticed that my icon for Outlook Express had disappeared, and along with it, my email. Some of this mail seems to have been stored on Outlook, but I can't find the rest, which amounts to about 900 to 1000 pieces of important mail. And I can find any of my "sent" mail.

I sent into the control panel, and basically uninstalled Outlook Express 6,. However, my mail is still nowhere to be found.

Any suggested for getting back this important mail would be most appreciated.

thanks,

Mike

I have Dell Inspiron 1564 and it comes with window 7 home Premium installed on it, latter I installed window 10(pirated version) on it. Initially it works well, I d id not noticed any kind of issue. But after some time, laptops fan making unnecessary rotations and making noise, and heating. I do not use any kind of heavy software on it. I browse the internet on Chrome and sometime on Mozila Firefox. But the laptop behave like i'm running very intense software on it. Even, when it is in ideal condition it's fan start with very high speed making the nose like hairdryer.
As it comes with OEM drive , I have installed window 7 Home Premium again to get the product key so that i can reinstall window 10 with product key. But when i checked OEM drive it completely empty.
I have tried "wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey" commend to get the key but did not get the keys. I posting the supporting images, help me out.

A:How to get the window product key from OEM.

Hi, and welcome to TSG.

The product key should be on the holographic Windows 7 Certificate Of Authenticity sticker attached to the outside of the computer. On laptops, this sticker may sometimes be inside the battery compartment. I have attached a photo of such a sticker used by Dell with part of the product key blanked out.

Window 8.1 Pro Product Key ?  Product Name:                    Hp  23-p017cOperating system:            Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit  I have purchaed this computer one year and have ago and upgraded to Window  8.1 Pro. It has been working fine till recently. It crushed and gave me this error: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.  I have tried to daignos and failed every posible Referesh, Repair, Reset, and Recovery solusions system provided me. So for the last effort I had to reistall the whole opperating system. Luckly everything is working fine now. The only problem i'm having now is that I'm getting the meassage Activate Windows.   And I don't have and I don't where it is the product key to activate with. So my quesion is Where can I get the original Product Key this computer came with? Any feed back will be greatly appriciated. Thanks you Waryaa

A:Window 8.1 Pro Product Key

WARYAA Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about needing your product key and wanted to help. With Win8x, the product key is embedded into the UEFI firmware on the motherboard.  You can retrieve it by following these directions:  Product Key - Find for Windows 8 However ... you have a bigger problem.  Your Win8.1 is not activating because you most likely reinstalled Win8 from an image your downloaded from the Internet or from an MS DVD -- and those images are Retail versions. Your PC came preinstalled with an HP OEM version of Win8 -- and the product key from that can only be used to activate the HP OEM version, not the Retail versions.  So basically, the version you installed will not activate unless you go out and buy a license for it. What will work is restoring your machine to its original factory condition using HP Recovery Media.  This is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks.  You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Upd... Read more

Hey, I've recently had to replace my hard drive and thus had to re-install Windows 7. The disc is one I got in the mail after ordering this laptop. I remember there being a product key on a sticker which was on the case for the disc...but..the sticker is gone?

I'm hoping there's another location for the key or I'm remembering wrong, and the key is actually somewhere else...but basically, I want to ask if there's anything I can do before this 29 days is up to activate? Am I able to order a new product key somehow without ordering an entirely new copy of windows?

If you still have your old computer, download, install, and run Belarc Advisor. When you have the results, scrolld down to the Software Versions section. Find the entry for Office and write it down. Keep in mind that your copy of Office is only allowed to be installed on one system at a time.

ayzal09,

There is no way to be able to get you the product key. You can still see if the recovery media for your unit is available for purchase, you'll have to contact the technical support in your area. If it comes on disc format you can just plug in an external optical drive to your unit and use them as needed.

A:Lost Product Key?

The installed Product Key is an OEM_SLP one - and can never be activated either by phone or over the internet - it is designed for use ONLY on bare-metal installs on the original computer on which it was pre-installed. This install is in a VM.

For downgrades from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 7 Pre/Enterprise you must use bare-metal installs with the original manufacturer's Recovery media, or Volume Licensing (or Full product licenses).

My sister has a 2002/3 Siemans pc. (I don't have exact spec with me).
She has lost her Siemans XP disk.
The Pc is in bad need of a fresh install.

She has contacted Siemans and the cost of replacment cd is too much to spend on old computer.

Have done many searches on this for her - ended up with referalls to long-winded confusing methods of buying a new retail version of xp home.
I am trying to help her find a quick and legal solution

Can she buy a new product id number on-line? (from Microsoft??) - and use some-one else's cd?
Any advice on how to achieve a legal and quick solution to this would be appreciated.

Hi, hopefully some one can help, my laptop crashed and I lost my Adobe Master Collection CS6. My problem is I don't have the product key. I have searched the net for software to try and find it. Belarc sees everything else but this product. I know there is other software out there but I'm afraid of attracting malware. Can anyone recommend a product to use which will find the key. I know it is encrypted somewhere in the registry.

Try Everest Home Edition V1.51 which you can download as freeware from oldversion.com. V1.51 was the last freeware version of Everest that has the software module which lists all the software on the computer with their license numbers. The software should still be "installed" after a repair installation.Get version 1.51 which is the last freeware version that includes the software module which lists all software installed on your computer and provides all the license key numbers ? a great tool which has been deleted from all successive freeware versions.Download here:http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=everesthome

If that is a retail key (your spec says custom build, so I assume it is ), there are many programs which can retrieve it for you.

I had a computer technician from a local store help upgrade my computer from 8.1 to 10. He apparently ran into problems and decided he had to wipe the system and then do a clean install. My computer didn't have stickers with the windows key on it as all that was apparently saved untie BIOS. Is there anyway to recover the Windows key? I have a second laptop of the same type (my wife's) that was recently upgraded to 10. Are the Windows keys in them the same? Is there anyway I don't have to buy a new Windows key. Microsoft has already said they can't help me.

Hi, Please do not messing up with Microsoft. Hopefully the key is still in the BIOS of your machine, please use the following tool to get it:   http://www.belarc.com/free_download.htmlWhen run this tool, it produces a report, scroll down to Software Management section. Windows 8, 8.1 or 10  product key is in there. You can also use the following tool to find out:  https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/Regards,

Hey Guys,

In 'System Information', there's a link that says 'Get more features with a new edition of windows". Clicking that brings up an 'Enter Product Key' page, and it is only at this point that I realize my product key isn't stuck to the bottom of this PC.

So, researching this on Google, I found a product key that Microsoft Released for the Trial:
NTTX3-RV7VB-T7X7F-WQYYY-9Y92F

So, my question is: Will my Windows 8 Product Key work with 8.1 Preview?
If so, I think I would rather dig that up than use a generic key.

If it doesn't, and I need to use this generic key, what happens at the end of the Preview when everyone has the same Product Key.

Will Windows 8 become an Operating System where you'll need to pay for the updated OS after the preview? Ie, paying for and getting a new Product Key?

And last, does anyone know what features entering a product key will actually unlock?

Thanks, Kurt

Welcome to EF BarkerBlast !

1- You can upgrade from Windows 8 without entering a product key, but for a clean install you'll always need a product key. You can enter the generic key or a key received from MSDN in case you have a subscription. Windows 8 keys do not work for a clean install.

2- At the end of the preview, if you upgraded from a valid Windows 8 install you'll be able to upgrade to RTM without a product key, but you will lose all your apps. If you installed the preview form an ISO or upgraded from a n... Read more

Hi--my first post! I have a used laptop that I recently installed a new version of Windows XP. I did't get around to entering the product key when I first installed it, and now, several weeks later , the time has expired and apparently the product key sticker along with the CD has been thrown out. I know there are utilities you can download to find your product key, but the Catch-22 is I cannot access the internet with the laptop since Windows is not working. Any suggestions?

Where do you plan to get the product key from? If you haven't put it in yet, it is not on your computer. You need to find the case or buy a new version of XP.

Toshiba Satellite A505-S6025 Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit

Customer has brought this computer in and it is giving me a Windows box saying that the OS must be validated and indicates that the the OS isn't genuine. However, research shows that this model came out of the factory with this version of Windows. The problem is that the sticker (COA) on the bottom has been worn out and unreadable. So, there is no key available. A Belarc scan of the system shows software license# 00371-OEM-899261-00137 (if this helps).

What would be the best course of action here: Run a system factory restore? She has no disks nor any product key. Any ideas as to what may have happened other than someone reinstalling from another unauthorized disk? I need to advise her what our next course of action should be. Legal, of course.

Thanks

Your product key should be on a sticker on the side of the case or on the back of the computer...look for it.
What is the make/model of the computer?

computer had major problems. Had to re format. Installing win 98se. I lost the product key. Can't proceed. Can the key be retrieved????? I did register the first time i installed win.

A:lost windows product key

Hi, After a format it is pretty hard, though no information is every really totally lost, especially after just a simple format of a hard drive.. The recovery process, is time consuming, and if you had to pay for it, quite expensive.
Are you sure you did not get a Certificate of Authority or a booklet with the Product Key on it? If the computer is second owned, did the previous owner perhaps record the Key?
If you still had Windows, the key is easily found in Registry.
You were in the past able to get a new Key from Microsoft, you can try contacting them by phone or email.
You can ALWAYS buy just a new license with a new Product Key- cost anywhere from like $5 by finding a used CD with key somewhere like computer sales, private sellers, ads, eBay (watch out for fake or burned copies....) up to $49 for brand new retail License available online at good computer sales sites.
Computer tech companies can sell Licenses, too.
Now might be a good time to upgrade, but that costs a lot and you have to make sure the hardware would work, likely most would but it's a pain to find out you have to replace things or get updated drivers for what you have. Hope this helps!

Hi!Can anybody help me!!

A:My Windows 7 Product Key lost..

Hello FaEast, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If your laptop is currently activated with this key and not the default OEM SLP key, then you could use one of the options in the tutorial below to get it.

Product Key Number for Windows 7 - Find and See

If not, then the key may be gone for good. I find it's always best to keep all product key numbers written down on paper and kept in a safe place. They should be treated like cash.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
