Worm Solves Gmail's CAPTCHA, Creates Fake Accounts.

A Vietnamese security company has detected what it believes is a new worm that thwarts Google's security protections in order to register new dummy Gmail accounts from which to send spam.

Bach Koa Internetwork Security (BKIS) said the worm was discovered earlier this week in one of its honeypots, the term for a computer set up to catch samples of malicious software. BKIS has named the malware "W32.Gaptcha.Worm."

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just found this while searching, hope this would be useful.

Security firm Panda Labs has detected a worm which attempts to spoof Google. P2Load.A spreads via P2P networks using the file-sharing programs Shareaza and Imesh.

The worm copies itself to the shared directory of these programs as an executable file called 'Knights of the Old Republic 2', referring to a computer game related to the Star Wars saga.

When P2Load.A is run, it displays an error message informing the user that a file does not exist and offers it for download. The download modifies the user's start page, showing advertising and spoofing the identity of Google.

To do this, the worm modifies the HOSTS file on the computer so that when users try to access Google, they are redirected to a page hosted on a server in Germany that looks exactly the same as Google, but is not controlled by the search giant.

The page is an exact copy of Google and redirects users even if they make a mistake when entering the address - such as 'wwwgoogle.com', 'www.gogle.com' or 'www.googel.com' - leaving users unaware of the change.

When users run a search, the results are shown correctly or with slight variations in the order in which they would be shown in Google. However, the sponsored links, which are usually shown at the top of the search results and correspond to companies that pay for this service, are different.

For certain searches, other links appear which have been speci... Read more

The computer started acting strangely, like redirecting Chrome to Google and occasionally the blue screen all that has stopped, but while looking around I noticed there were folders I did not create and User settings I had not changed. Normally I am the only user and administrator and guest acct is turned off.  However, now there was user "fbwuser" account and other accts. which seem to have disappeared. Still there are random folders throughout (i.e. Public Videos) and others to which I get denied access. At times I get the feeling it is being accessed remotely, but all this is very new to me,

Hello

I am running Windows XP Home edition Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
My computer is a Compaq Presario SR1130NX with an AMD Athlon 3000+ processor and 1028 Megs of memory. I have NAV 9 and Kerio Personal Firewall installed. The problem I a having is that I picked up what I believe is a worm from a file that I downloaded. The worm seems to be similar to the Bayrob worm. I followed the instructions located here: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2007-030115-1234-99&tabid=2

I seem to have eliminated the windowsupdate.exe portion of the worm. The only symptom that I a now getting is that every time I reboot, NAV 9 detects MSRT07.sys, which it labels a “Backdoor.HackDefender. NAV successfully deletes the file at startup, but something is putting a new copy of MSRT07 in my windows32 folder on every startup. I am hoping you can help me to find the source. I have combed the internet, and have found no info on this particular worm variant. I have uploaded the file that infected my computer here in case someone wnats to examine it:

Please help, I am new to this, but I 've been fighting for my vindication!!!!

Something has created facebook, email and other online accounts in my name. There are hidden files on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and it's not even active anymore. Email accounts that I delete and google services keep reappearing. People I don't know are added to my contacts on my phone. Basically whoever or whatever this is, is making it seem that I am living a double life and I need to know what it is before it gets even worse.

Now, possible sources for this, I guess hack, because it is also effecting my P.C. and my Iphone 4, are, Craigslist and Bittorrent. Yes, I know I know.

Also programs are getting installed by themselves. Calls are weird and I can sometimes hear noises like someone is listening in. (No, I am not high nor paranoid). I get weird calls, I've been getting calls from car dealerships saying I inquired about buying a car, when I asked what e-mail address they had, it was from I hadn't used in years!

I've run multiple virus scans on all my devices, and I've reset them to factory settings, but to no avail......please help.

Hey everyone,

so I'm doing all this on my iPhone so please excuse the limited searching for answers.

I've had the fake antivirus software (av.exe) 2 or 3 times now but have been able to get rid of it with help from the guides. However, I now have the above listed virus, altho a post on systamtechs website makes me think it is not the listed virus and something else completely. It won't let me access task manager, has changed my sysamtech vptray program, changed AIM, and deleted malwarebytes exe. I tried reinstalling malwarebytes from a flash, but it didn't work. Was immediately deleted. Please help.

Oh, also, whatever this is hasn't touched ccleaner.

Hello, and thank you in advance.
My computer seems to have been infected with that fake "Blaster Worm" malware. I've tried to clear it up with the tutorial on here, and have tried multiple (separately) malware detector and removal programs, to no avail. Most of them find no threat or problem, the only one that did find anything was the ESET online scanner. It says it removed it, but when I started back up in normal mode, it was not fixed. I have been running all of these in safe mode with networking, which is also how I am posting this. I have tried Malwarebytes, ESET online scanner, Kaspersky, and Hitman Pro 3.5 free trial.
What should I do next?
Thanks again,

Hi, I am on a work laptop and require your expertise in removing a virus from my computer. I was on Google image search, clicked on one of the images and the next thing you know my McAfee Virus scanner was going haywire. I remember seeing a couple java windows opening on the website. Then it was pop-ups for fake anti-virus software appeared and there wasn't anything I can do to get rid of them. Even when the pop-ups aren't seen, the computer performance is horrible now, and other programs fail to open due to memory resources and/or network resources.

I am sure I made a mistake along the way since I am relative novice when it comes to computers. Unfortunately, since this is a work laptop, I don't have administrator privileges on it.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

One or more of the identified infections steal information. If this system is used for online banking or has credit card information on it, all passwords should be changed immediately by using a different computer (not the infected one!) to make the changes. Banking and credit card institutions, if any, should be notified of the possible security breech. I suggest that you read this article too.

Please rename the gmer file to a .com extension. Be sure that File Extensions are viewable.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

Then, right click on the gmer file you downloaded, and change it's extension to a .com instead of .exe and try to run it. If need be, run rkill again first.

I can't do the DDS logs - I'm getting a message that says Your Current Security Settings Do Not Allow This File To Be Downloaded   and I think that has everything to do with the Worm I think we have on the network.

I've spent the last couple of days trying to figure out what's going on w/my laptop and PC.  They've been slow, erratic, tons of security messages, etc.  I've narrowed it down to this WhatsApp fake email I opened 2 days ago on the PC.  Since then, both computers have taken on a mind of their own and just about made me lose MY mind!!  I finally got Emsisoft to scan on the Laptop this afternoon, and it found 14 threats.  I'll copy the log at the bottom of this post.  I just checked the PC again.  I can't get online anymore, I can't get Emsisoft to scan, I can't get MBAM to scan.  There is an alert on the screen referring to a threat:  Email-Worm.JS.Gigger and it states where the attack is coming from - should I post that url here?

Please help me! Thank you!

Latest Storm Worm - eCards now uses HTML and fake URLs The ever-changing Storm Worm (a.k.a., Nuwar, Zheltain) has been revamped from plain text to HTML. This conversion process allowed the malicious authors to hide the dangerous numeric IP addresses and make it appear as a legitimate e-card site. The latest versions of most browsers (e.g., IE 7, Firefox 2, Opera 9, etc) allow users to "hover over" a URL and see the true address found in links (just be never to click without verfication). The best practice is to avoid these messages completely, as hostile scripts could be embedded in future iterations of these massively spammed attacks. Clicking on the URL could automatically download and install some of the worst malware circulating in-the-wild. It is very difficult to detect and clean. Folks can save hours of aggrevation and possible damage to their systems by being careful and thinking before they click. Finally, all users should keep their Anti-virus protection as up-to-date as possible to avoid these daily changing attacks. ?Fun World?? Not Really?Part 2 http://www.avertlabs.com/research/blog/ind...-really-part-2/ Today Nuwar/Zhelatin spammed out several thousand mails, which are very similar to those we saw yesterday. Although the spam template did not change at all, the format of the mail changed. It changed to HTML instead of plain text, but it does not contain any active content such as JavaScript or ActiveX. Compared with the last spam wave, the IP addres... Read more

I know it sounds simple, but it's confusing the heck out of me, and I've checked a few simple "how-to's" that didn't work. Here's the problem: I have several gmail accounts I've created over the years......one I use daily, another once in awhile, another I wish to make my primary account, and some others. Here's what I need to do: 1) eliminate ALL but the 2 accounts I'm going to be using, and 2) easily switch between the two. I realize that #2 is a totally separate issue; let's just try to get the first one done for now.

What happens is, first I sign out of the regular account, but cannot get into any others. The one I previously created that I want to use as my primary, when I try to sign in, it says "no account exists." But when I try to create a new account using that name, it says "that one's already taken." If I try to retrieve a password, and go through that whole laborious process, it says "nothing here." The process just keeps going back and forth.....

So......how can I go in and get rid of all but the two accounts?

A:How do I delete gmail accounts I don't want/need?

i think this is a little more than posted
this is the key question
The one I previously created that I want to use as my primary, when I try to sign in, it says "no account exists."Click to expand...

can you log into that account

When you delete gmail account, it still exist and cannot be re-created , although it will not be available to anyone else
this sounds like the situation

This can happen when opening a mail item, trying to delete a message, forwarding a message or even trying to get into the Sent Items file. (Almost anything I try to do !) I reckon it's happening 50% of the time. I've tried asuggestion of using the alternative URL https://mail.google.com/mail/s/ but no joy.Anybody else on Vista had problems? Any more of it and I may have to change.

A:Problems With Gmail Accounts

Hey there! Sorry to hear that you are having issues with GMail! I've also been using it for awhile now, and love it! My dad runs Vista and has been using GMail for over 8 months, and has never had a 102 error.. But, a friend of mine that is running Windows XP HAS gotten 102 errors... From what I understand, the 102 error in GMail is related to SMTP, not Vista.

4 When I go to Gmail>settings>accounts>send email as and I change SusyB to SusyC it still shows on the Google account page as SusyB

This friend had an abusive husband who is tech savvy and she suspects he has access to one of the emails as he seems to know things he should not.

Should she just bite the bullet and scrap both accounts and start fresh with all that entails notifying everyone of her new email? Or am I missing something obvious.

My gmail account got hacked. Offenders changed my pw, alternate email address, and deleted my contacts. They sent email out to all the contacts saying that I was stranded in the UK without money and asking for contacts to respond to arrange to send $2000.00. Offenders changed settings so that response email would be forwarded to their account. Friends who got these fraudulent emails called and alerted me and I contacted gmail and reset the alternate email address so they could send me a link to reset pw. Upon regaining access I discovered the extent of compromise.
I also rec'd email from facebook that my account with them has been breached. I still have not regained access to that.
I had Norton360 v 3.0 running on my computer the whole time. I have scanned my computer with it then with Norton 360 v 4.0 and with Trend Micro and no virus or malware is detectable. How did my account get hacked?????

A:gmail and facebook accounts hacked

Norton is mainly an antivirus product, maybe they include anti-spyware too now, not sure. There are many ways to steal access to your gmail. One of the ways is to install a keylogger on your pc, and steal username and passwords as you type them. But if you have accessed your gmail from another computer, like at university; public library, your friend's PC etc, then it may be that those computers are infected and not yours. Also, it may not be a technical attack. Simply being able to look over your shoulder as you enter the passwords will get you hacked just as easily. Then, there are whats called brute force attacks, where a program simply points to a login page, and tries each combination in sequence till it hits the right one. Gmail may not fall to brute force attacks, but if you use the same password on multiple sites, then there is a chance that they hacked that account first and tried to use the same password on gmail. Then there may have been phishing attempts made at your account and you mistakenly entered your password into a web site that only looks like Gmail. There should be more ways to steal your gmail, but I am not a hacker.

If you are running Trend Micro along with Norton, you might end up with them interferring with each other. You cannot run multiple real-time antivirus products together.

When you reset your Gmail, use a complex passphrase that is easy to remember. Eg. The phrase "Kirk is the rightful captain of the USS Enterprise" can be tr... Read more

Hello, does anyone know the best way to accomplish having two gmail accounts open SIMULTANEOUSLY, whether in Chrome (preferred) using a workaround or extension, or in Firefox?  (There are plenty of options out there to handle password management to switch between accounts with a click or two, but if you want to be in two at the same time, the only things I've been able to find for Chrome at least is to open two different windows one in Incognito the other in regular mode.)  It would be MUCH easier to have both email accounts open in respective tabs within the same window.

Anyone found a way to do this yet (in either Chrome or Firefox, Opera)?

A:Being in multiple gmail accounts simultaneously

I don't think its possible natively, due the nature of how cookies and sessions are handled.

I had a few gmail accounts set up for different purposes. Google has made some changes that seems to have blocked my access to these accounts. They will only allow me into my primary email. I used to be able to go to gmail sign in page and sign in to any account I wanted. Now I can only sign in to the primary one. So very frustrating. Don't know what else I can tell you to figure this out.

If I ever get back into them, I plan to move all email's away from Google, but have to get access first.

Appreciate any help.
