Lenovo B590: Error using UEFI and bootable USB Win...

Q: Lenovo B590: Error using UEFI and bootable USB Win...

My Windows 10 Anniversary version broke down on my laptop Lenovo B590 some days ago. After trying several solutions in UEFI I changed the BIOS to load first from DVD/USB and after that I can't do anything - only first standard Lenovo screen shows up and then blank screen - tap Enter - no reaction. Using F2, F12, F9/Fn and/or Delete/Esc buttons don't help and nothing else. Esc gives "Entering Diagnostich Splash Screen" and then blank screen. Conclusion, impossible to get into UEFI any more.I then created a bootable USB with ISO image using Media Creation tool from my wife's/this laptop. Then trying to use the (restricted) repair function from USB without success - then tried to make a clean install but got error message saying that the partition on laptop was GPT version partition and the iso image don't fit to this. Then downloaded the ISO file directly using Media Creation tool and then used Rufus 2.10 to create a GPT partion for UEFI - but the Lenovo laptop would not react on the USB tool at all - meaning blank screen only.(Trying to create the MBR partition version with Rufus on USB gave the same result as with the USB from Media Creation tool with the message that the partition on my Lenovo was GPT and therefore the MBR could not be used!)I have now talked to Microsoft support who could not help but referred to this community for help - so ....help, please?

Preferred Solution: Lenovo B590: Error using UEFI and bootable USB Win...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi I have changed boot order and also I have disabled UEFI in order to install linux on other partition(not done yet). as I always do on other laptops. But now after changing to legacy mode I cannot access BIOS anymore. I got pxe-e61 error. OK so I insert USB linux drive and it is working properly with live boot.  But I realy need to boot Windows, but it is not possible becoáuse of UEFI being turnd off. Also It is not possible to access bios, because BIOS was accessed from recovery windows menu, whitch doesnt load anymore. Also when it is booting up (lenovo logo) I press esc (no other keys are workind) which open menu where I "can" boot to BIOS. So I press F1 menu dissapears but I end up with same PXE-E61 error. Any advice how to enter BIOS and change it back to UEFI mode ? thanks

I hope you meant to say Lenovo B590, because I cannot find any reference to a Lenovo G590 Not sure why, but others have reported that to regain access to the BIOS, you have to do the following. remove the battery and power, then remove the back panel.remove the BIOS battery.    See page 44, 45 and 52 of the Hardware Maintenance Manualleave it for a couple of minutes (I would say 5 minutes or more).replace the BIOS battery and the cover, then the battery and then the powerBoot up and use F1 / F2 to go into the bios Hardware Maintenance Manual Lenovo B590https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/b590_hmm_en.pdf I hope it works for you too. Good Luck,

Hi all. My Lenovo Twist (Ultrabook s230u) has ran into problems - and tries to run AutoRepair but gets hung up each time. Lenovo has instructions for creating a bootable USB to run UEFI diagnostics: Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB (Create it on Windows OS) - Desktops / Notebooks / Workstations. But it doesn't work. Level 2 support (thru IBM) said they haven't found a way to run diagnostics from a USB on this model (Twist). He showed me how to disable secure boot in BIOS setup to allow both UEFI & Legacy Boot. But he also tried & failed to create a USB key from Lenovo's instructions: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub...le-usb-204.txt. The command line given (UefiBootableGenerator.exe --create -l boot -u I -f "UEFI_Bootable_v02.00.04.zip") throws the error: "Invalid option to --create: -1". But these instructions were the same as given for a prior UEFI bootable version 1.05, which was posted in an earlier thread (www.eightforums.com/general-support/18039-how-access-boot-menu-bios-windows-8-a.html). So I thought someone here could shed some light on:
- How to create this USB key from Lenovo's download file
- Why the command line is not working
- How to run the diagnostics from a USB on this Lenovo Twist

This Lenovo model has diagnostics preloaded but, again, I've tried several times and it's not running. After starting AutoRepair, it says its running Diagnostics. Then a few times it's says checking or repairing hard drive, which says might ... Read more

The error message seems to be referring to "-1" but the command refers to "-l" (One being the number "1" and the other being the letter between "k" and "m" in the alphabet.) Both look very similar in that txt file of instructions, and I think they even get it wrong.

8. Now create the USB key by entering this command:
BootableGenerator.exe --create -l -u -f

where
*<-1> is the new name of the USB key (limit of 11 characters)

(The -l and -1 look more alike in standard Courier fonts than in the Forum's font too.)

It couldn't be as simple as confusion between 1 and l could it?

Also, I'm assuming you checked the "I" (yet another easy confusion) later in the command was the actual letter of the USB drive or changed it?

I guess your PC isn't working well enough to post a screenshot, but maybe a photo is possible and would be helpful?

Almost a year ago now. I had a error for my fan on my lenovo b590 show up, I took it apart. Ordered a new fan from eBay and well it wouldn't fit. It was a little bigger than the old fan. I'm ready to finally fix it again. Can someone give me the link of where to buy a new fan. One that will fit it. On amazon, eBay or another site that is decently priced. I don't want to order another and it not fit. Please and thank you

A:Lenovo b590 fan error

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Have you tried doing a search using the part number on your old fan?  The Hardware Maintenance Manual for your model is showing two part numbers for the fan and heat sink assembly.  That may  account for why your first replacement didn't fit.  I am also assuming that you are looking for the fan only without the heat sink.  Here is what is shown on page #85 of the manual....

LB59A Thermal Module UMA W/FAN  90201914
LB59A Thermal Module DIS W/FAN  90201913

Here is a link to that manual for your reference....

Hello. Yesterday I have dropped my 4 years old Lenovo B590 and I left it alone for a day. Today I'm trying to turn it on and I have a trouble with it. When I do it for the first time it says it does the Automatic Repair and Diagnosing Your PC, and then shows the Automatic Repair blue page with options to Restart and Advanced Oprions. And if I Restart it, it is then stuck on Lenovo first page and does not load further. So then I have to turn it off and on again. And there is Automatic Repair again. So what shall I do? Cause I have a lot of more or less important documents and it would be bad to lose them. Thank you in advance

A:Lenovo B590 won't turn on

If you have a data on the hard drive that is important to you, I would take your computer to a reputable local computer shop and have them try to backup your data.    It is possible that the drop damaged the hard drive, but the fact that it tries to boot at very all is a good sign, so there is a good chance that your data can be backed up.  In a worst case scenario, you may have to replace the hard drive (which are not too expensive), but it may be repairable too, but if you data is irreplaceable, I would not touch it until I had a backup in hand. Good Luck,

The water has shorted out the charging system on the motherboard. For future reference, if you spill any liquid on a laptop, open it up fully, and turn it over upside down on a towel and bounce it gently for a few times. Leave it there for 24 hours Your laptop is most likely toast...

A:Lenovo B590 + Win 10 = WiFi problem

Hi Swarm23 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Just a headsup B590 may be affected by Win10 upgrade as a non supported model.
Windows 10 Upgrade Guide - IdeaPad and Lenovo NotebookLenovo supported systems list for Windows 10 Upgrade
After upgrading to Windows 10, some software or hardware functions of your computer might be unavailable. In addition, some software issues might occur. Installing the latest Windows updates, device drivers, and application updates may fix these issues

Same reasons why support site do not have compatible driver available at the moment.

What you can try is to go to the device manager and right click on the Wireless card under network adapter . Choose properties. Uncheck box on Power management tab "Allow to turn off to save power".
Go to Advance tab and set roaming aggressiveness / tendency to highest and restart .

Check if there is a better connection , else proceed with choosing native driver offered by Windows .
Go to device manager and right click to update drivers , browse my computer , let me pick from the list and choose among those offered . Try each offered driver starting from top.

Update us how it goes.

Tryed removing all external devices and even disabling some of them in Device Manager. I think that my B590's are not on the supported list for Win 10 but still hoped something could be done to get the free upgrade. Tnx in advance for your help and good advice. Cheers

USB Boot should be enabled
Under Security
Secure Boot is disabled

As soon as I save and exit from Bios, it boots Windows.
I reboot and use F12 and click USB and it boots to Windows.
I have tried a Data Traveler and a Patriot Slate.
I have made them bootable in diskpart and tried FAT and FAT32.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this? I asked this in Lenovo forum, but I figure you guys are smarter.

Hello philetus now this begs the question what is on that USB stick? If it some form of Windows 7 media I am wondering how you managed to get it on a stick and also have you updated the USB drivers.

I am also concerned that you have been into the BIOS and changed it around like that not that I am any great expert on what should be changed, but I do know I had to change a few of the EUFI settings on my Asus ROG to get it to boot 7 which included changing the BIOS to the latest version before I could install 7 drivers.

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

Can you please provide links to the page(s) where you got the Lenovo tests? I'm not familiar with them and would like to see how they compare with the tests I recommend.

For starters:

At work we start all repairs with a set of diagnostics. Often they find problems that weren't even expected. It's a waste of time to try to fix software on a system that has hardware problems.
Please try these free diagnostics for starters: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Also, please ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Out of 5 memory dumps there were 4 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnost... Read more

Hello

For a Lenovo B590, Model number 59410449, which has the i5 processor, what is the maximum amount of memory that is supported?

Mine shipped with 6 GB.  I'm worried that if the max is 8GB, I will have to buy two 4GB memory sticks.

Does anyone know what the maximum for this model number is?  Am hoping it is 16 GB!

Thanks.

A:B590 - Memory for Lenovo Model 59410449

Hi AC2000 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Based on the product specification for this model , memory :
8GB max7 / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3, non-parity, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets; * System automatically clocks down for processors with 1333MHz memory controller

This is the recommended Max memory supported for your model eventhou some processors can handle more (example : 15- 4310U handling 16 GB) since certain consideration are maintained by the systemboard and BIOS for full functionality and avoid non essential upgrades for users.

Your 6 GB ram probably have 2GB and 4 GB (PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3) at the moment so you can simply match the a similar 4GB to max it to 8GB and be able to use dual channel synch for faster communication and transfer.

Hope this helped answer your query.
Update us what works best for you.

I've just bought this laptop, and it came with windows 8 preinstalled, and I'm trying to install Windows 7 on it.

I have a bootable usb, which I've used many times to install Windows on my other laptops, but the B590 just wont do it. I feel like I've tried everything. I changed the boot priority order in BIOS with USB HDD as number 1 but it still just boots into windows 8.

I've tried removing everything but USB devices from the boot order, and now I get this boot menu:
http://i.imgur.com/1iV2iaW.jpg

Which is exactly what I want to boot from, but when I press enter to boot from the USB device, nothing happens. It's incredibly frustrating.

The USB device IS bootable with a primary partition. I've used these steps to make it bootable in DISKPART:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com...how-to-deploy-windows-7-from-a-usb-drive.aspx

After having no luck on the B590, I tried booting on the USB on a different computer, and it works perfectly well. Starts installing windows 7. So it seems like the problem is not with my usb device.

I even tried restoring the USB drive and using Lenovo Bootable Generator application to make the usb bootable, with the same result.

Can anyone help?

my harddisk went dead (click-click) so i took one from another laptop and formatted. got a boxed win 8 but i can't install. Secure boot is off - I can access the bios but when i boot up all i get is a blinking cursor and black screen. the PC came originally  with an oem install. I think the gpt table is missing (or something).

Have you tried to format the drive as part of the install? What is the HDD size?

A:How to install SSD Disk on Lenovo B590 model 6274

hi nonesofar13,

Welcome to the Forums.

The B590 (6274) does support an SSD and you can opt to get a 2.5" or an mSATA form factor.

- Sample items
- Sample items

Since you already have a HDD, you can try to get an mSATA SSD and make it as your boot drive and just make the HDD a storage drive (i.e., For picture, movies, etc.).

Alternatively, you can just replace the HDD with a 2.5" SSD and optionally get an caddy or a SATA enclosure to convert the HDD as an external drive.

A:Lenovo Essential B590 MBX29IV-Can this run MKV 1080p files?

Based simply on the specs you have listed, it should be fine for 720p but may not do 1080p as the screen resolution may not go high enough.

You have listed the resolution as 1366x768 which should be fine for 720p (1280x720) but 1080p (1920x1080) may be too high for it.

I have read the " Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create " Tutorial - very helpful - thanks . I have an new ASUS X551M laptop with Win 8.1 , and want to create a bootable USB Flash Drive . I see 2 possibilities - bootable USB or bootable UEFI USB . Which one should I use ?
Thanks .

A:Bootable USB or UEFI USB ?

if you use the create media tool (link in sig below) it creates both..

as long as the usb has the file > bootmgr.efi and a folder "efi" it is bootable via UEFI

USB Flash Drive has to be in GPT?

A:UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive

Hi there

NO

Creating a bootable UEFI drive is done by for example downloading a Live Linux distro on to a bootable USB drive. When the drive boots if the BIOS in the machine supports UEFI you'll usually (in the case of Linux distros) get TWO options - boot the UEFI OS or the regular one.

The same with Windows if you make a bootable USB from the Windows install ISO.

Hi, I just updated my BIOS version from 1.15 to 1.25 for my Aspire E15 (E5-573-32JT). I downloaded the version from http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/driverswith my SNID 53601167576. However on BOOT I get an error saying "No Bootable Device". I Googled and found a similar issue in Tom's Guide here  And as per that post I'm using Legacy instead of UEFI. I wish to know whats the difference booting up with Legacy. And is there anyway to revert back (booting up with UEFI)?

A:No bootable device on startup for UEFI

please edit your SNID, it's a personal data. Legacy was an "emulation" of the old BIOS way, UEFi is the modern way. Since you are using a modern OS (from windows 8.x and up), UEFI is way more secure, the main issue is if you switch to legacy, you will receive a "no bootable device" since it can't read the little EFI partition that store some infos to boot under UEFI. you can easily revert to UEFI:Boot to BIOS pressing F2Go to BOOT tabpress enter on BOOT mode and select UEFIpress F10 to save and exitlet your system boot to windows

Hello,

I have made a windows 7 image with the versions I want in it and it fits on a sl 4.7 dvd. All I did was take the install.wim out of the original genuine windows 7 ultimate iso and modify it and put it back in it with daemon tools then burned it to a dvd SL. The problem is that I am not getting the UEFI boot option for the dvd!! My bios is configured correctly 100%. If I take rufus program and put the w7 on usb, uefi shows up as boot option. My dvd does boot but only in mbr mode. So how do I make the dvd bootable with uefi? It can be done because the original w7 ultimate iso can boot as uefi or mbr mode. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do?? I used daemon tools to extract and put the wim in the iso and ashampoo burning studio to burn the iso to dvd. Any help thanks!! ohh forgot, I am using x64 w7 dvd version

A:How to make windows 7 dvd SL (4.7gb) uefi bootable

Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7 shows how to unlock all versions, provides ISO and tool to burn to DVD. Neither of the tools you are using is supported.

Hi there
on some PC's when using bootable UEFI USB devices for programs like GPARTED / ACRONIS the BIOS boot menu will often list THE SAME device TWICE -- for example this happens on the HP envy sleekbook series -- when you press ESC then F9 to get the boot menu.

You will see for example Sony Storage stick and then again UEFI Sony Storage stick. Choose the UEFI Sony storage stick and the correct version of the program will load - for example using a USB bootable stick for GPARTED.

The Boot from Laptop's HDD will sometimes not work in some instances -- choose the UEFI OS boot manager - then Windows boots normally.

(Normally the system will boot OK using the OS boot manager in the BIOS for UEFI).

UEFI boot does not require PROTECTED BOOT to be enabled.

Hello All

I have original ISO file from MSDN website - it is Windows 8.1 Update 1 Enterprise (x64) MSDN version with Slovak language interface.
I?m create a bootable DVD (Verbatim DVD-R 4,7GB) in program ISO2Disc. This ISO I would like to install on to my system , more details about my pc - see my system specification. My motherboard is MSI Z77 Mpower with latest version UEFI - BIOS 17.12

I have a few question about installation a new windows 8.1 in uefi mode:

-what a bootable media is better ? I think USB stick or DVD disc
-what the function in the BIOS I must turn on or off, I mean the fast boot or memory fast boot
-UEFI mode is better then LEGACY mode ?

I have a bootable DVD Parted Magic , it is good Partition Manager. I must change MBR format to GPT - only GPT is supported format for UEFI , is it rue ? So , now i should format all disc inside my pc (secure erase for ssd disc and wipe for hhd). I can create NTFS partition with GPT format and aligned to 1204MB for all solid state discs and HDD. I can do this ?

I?m sorry for my english. I try to understand me. Thank you for all the helpful advice.

Here is what happened.
I bought HP Envy dv6 7201tx (i5,6GB,2GB nVidia,750GB,Win8 Pro)
I used EaseUS Partition manager to resize "C:" and create a new partition in my notebook.
Unfortunately it failed after restart. And windows failed to load and UEFI told that boot not found.
I restarted nearly 7 to 8 times. Its no avail.

So I decided to Repair using Windows 8 USB-HDD created from ISO. Since I am not provided with any DVD Accessories from HP.
To my surprise it doesnt recognise my USB.

I went into BIOS setup and modified something like "Legacy support" to "Enabled" which is already disabled.
And the "Secureboot" option below it automatically faded out to "Disabled". And it said your system will boot in BIOS Mode in next restart.

After reboot I found UEFI to recognise my USB and furthur continued to install Windows 8 and activated it using the Product Key. And in the process i formatted my entire harddisk from GPT to MBR.

To my surprise I found System properties to show "Installed Memory: 6.00GB (929MB usable)
Then only i found myself wrong in doing the process. I have to install Windows 8 with UEFI Enabled and get my RAM memory back. Please help me. Note that UEFI Mode doesnt recognise my bootable USB-HDD.

So I want to create a bootable USB for win8 x64. I'v got the ISO.

Do I need to follow this:

or this?:
UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows

My motherboard is:
Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 (v1.3) and I have updated the BIOS to the latest version (U1L) which says to be a UEFI BIOS; GIGABYTE - Moederbord - Socket 1155 - GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (rev. 1.3)

But I dont quiet understand because what I thought was that UEFI is an alternative/replacement for BIOS. So how can you have a UEFI BIOS?

I would make the UEFI USB drive, as you can than use the drive on UEFI or Legacy modes.

So, got a new laptop, and it started to rain in problems :
1) uefi - what kind of crap is this ?? it cannot detect anything - i have ssd, i have pluged bootable win7 installation usb flash, but it just gives "no bootable device found". Had to turn off uefi and enable legacy mode. Is uefi usable only with windows 8+ ?

A:Acer laptop, uefi, no bootable devices found

This is the benefits of UEFI:
Better security by helping to protect the pre-start-up – or pre-boot – process against bootkit attacks.
Faster start-up times and resuming from hibernation.
Support for drives larger than 2.2 terabytes (TB).
Support for modern, 64-bit firmware device drivers that the system can use to address more than 17.2 billion gigabytes (GB) of memory during start-up.
Capability to use BIOS with UEFI hardware.

I have recovery tools that have bootable CDs based upon WinPE but they do not work in a UEFI environment. Is it possible to modify the boot details on the CD (or USB) such that it will then boot? I don't want to fiddle with the PC settings to enable legacy mode or anything like that as this causes me other problems.

If possible there is one other issue that would prevent them working. If the CD is based upon the 32bit WinPE then this will not boot in UEFI on 64bit hardware and vice versa. However I have UEFI in both 32 and 64 bit in my VMWare for testing.

Thanks
