Muffled / robotic sound when Voice Recieving.

Q: Muffled / robotic sound when Voice Recieving.

Today after returning home from school, switching on the PC and turning on Aion. ( Sort of Irrelevant ) I logged into vent, and was unable to hear everybody due to muffled / robot like voices they had. My voice was clear to them. And all other sound on my computer was fine. It seems it is only my voice receiving that is awkward. Any ideas what this could be? - Drivers are all up to date.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A friend of mine recently started to have speaker/microphone issues (sound would cut out at times for her speakers and mic, had to position herself perfectly) and eventually the speakers completely died. She got a new set (Earbuds + microphone on the cord) and that worked fine for a few hours. Eventually, there was a buzz on her end and her volume (voice) got considerably lower. The buzz wasn't that bad, so we just changed the volume/mic volume to fix it, and the next day it was gone.

Sadly, at the end of the next day, the mic started to buzz again, except worse this time. It was nearly impossible to hear her over the buzzing sound, but we both went to bed soon after that. The next day was the same thing, but again it got worse. This time her voice would sometimes distort into static/robotic sounds. When it was loud enough, it was at least somewhat understandable.

On day 5, and her mic started off buzzing today. She switched to the old microphone (plugged the yellow cord into the yellow jack) and her voice was fixed for a few hours. She went out for a few and came back, but when she did she couldn't hear me and I couldn't hear her. We've tested extensively (restarting, using other programs, she can hear it herself when it's recorded/played back, the other mic jack doesn't seem to notice when it's plugged in + is unreachable sitting normally, and of course plenty of wire jiggling. After all of this, her voice would cut in and out of the robotic sounds, and the buzz would be... Read more

I recently changed security software and there may have been a lapse when I didn't have it. Since I changed over, my computer is slower and seems to momentarily stall very often. Even with simple things like moving the cursor around the screen, the pointer will start-stop-start-stop. The problem is very noticeable when I tried to play music. Whether it be from an internet radio site or through the CD player, the music gets broken up so much the voices end up sounding robotic. I've gone into my processes to see if something seemed odd in there but was unsuccessful.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

my windows 7 system has been slow for some time now. sometimes when it would start up, it was fast and i had little to no problems, but it's getting more frequent and now each time it's very slow after start up.

i found out that it's only happening when connected to the internet: when i click connections and disconnect from my wireless router, (thus being off the internet), the pc is fast

i get these split second 'robotic sounds' like ''trrrr''. and then it stops for 5 seconds or so, and i keep getting these sounds/lag more and more, even when just playing a song when connected to the internet.

i hope you can understand me, as my english is not too good. thank you in advance!

I have been having problems with my computer for a few weeks. It seems anytime I play a video the sound keeps getting jumpy or skipping and it comes out as a robotic sound. I’ve also been having problems with Firefox. Seems anytime I try and load a webpage it freezes and will stop responding for a few seconds. Both the issues seem to have come on at the same time. I updated firefox but still had the freazing problem. I switched over to Google chrome and still had the same problem with the sound and freezing.

I’ve run Bit defender and no viruses. I tried updating the Audio driver and it says they are up to date. I have no updates from Microsoft needed to be installed. I have no idea what to do next and to make matters worse I am really bad with computers. I will try anything at this point. Everything is still usable but incredibly frustrating to have to keep listening to that sound. Again, I’m really bad with computers so please talk to me as if you’re talking to your grandparents about computers.

Hello,
I am new to this forum due to a bug with my bass boost. I had some problems earlier with my gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3, Socket-AM3+ and my Tiamat subwoofer not working. Uninstalled Realtek and Dolby to get it working again. Now i have some bass atleast, eventhough i would like to have some more. So i tried to enable bass boost as it worked great in my past.

So here is the problem: If i enable bass boost, after some time, the sounds start going all robotic (noticed it first on skype) and as soon as I disabled bass boost again, everything worked great.

Ask me if you wonder about anything, ill try my best to explain.
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure what happened with my computer lately. It started one day when my previous audio card audibly died while listening to iTunes.

I went out and purchased a SIIG Soundwave 5.1 PCI sound card and everything seemed to be ok.

I also added 2 more gigs of RAM shortly after and then, a few days later, removed them as they didn't seem to be making a difference in my system. After the install of the additional 2 gigs of RAM, weird things started to happen.

While listening to any audio/video over the internet, the video is erratic as well as the audio - it gets this weird robotic sound to it, almost slow-motion.

For example, on youtube, it does this until the entire video has loaded, and then it plays ok. Any sites with background music, it has to loop once first before it plays correctly.

I don't know what to do!

In addition, sometimes my system lags incredibly to the point that when i move my mouse, it skips all over the screen.

I have no clue what's happening here and its probably a bunch of different things.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Also, I'm running an Intel Duo Core with 2 gigs of RAM.. Windows Vista 32 SP 1

Im having with w7 atm when i play music the sound is all muffled and screechy like its being amplified kinda like when you turn the equalizer up full. Ive gone through the sound settings but there arent any that i can see that would be causing the problem. The sound card shows up as Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) under device manager which is the drivers that installed automatically from windows update.

A:muffled sound

have you looked in control panel for the creative audio software, im not familiar with your sound card but it may have a settings panel in control panel.
,has this recently started happening have you installed any sound software recently and have you had an update that may have affected it?
if its a fairly recent thing then maybe a system restore to the point before it started happening will help.

I've noticed that the sound on my HP dv7 laptop seems more muffled that it used to. I was trying to watch a video with the volume on low last night and I couldn't really make out what was being said. Usually this is fine.

Any ideas? - I checked the speaker drivers in control panel and apparently they are up to date and working okay.

I'm running win 7 RC by the way. Before that it was vista.

A:Sound Muffled

did this whappened when you started using W7? Drivers for audio on laptops almost always contain software that will enhance the quality of the sound produced by the speaker(s), a thing that can't be done with generic drivers.

Some days ago I started noticing that the sound coming from my PC suffered from some kind of muffled distortion. I use earphones and theyre perfectly fine, since they work properly with any other device.

Windows 7 x64 (Completely updated according to automatic updates)
Realtek High Definition Audio

This kind of muffled sound occurs at random times in a video, song, etc, I honestly cant specify when does the distortion occur, its mainly a few times at random.

I connect my earphones to an audio entry in the volume and bass control wheel of my speakers and sub woofer.

What have I done recently that could have affected the sound?

-As I had said before, the earphones work perfectly fine, but the sound distortion occurs with all the earphones I have tried. So discard this.

-Recently I removed my speakers' cables which are connected to the sub-woofer, and the sound problem has started occuring closely to when I plugged them back again. This made me think that I messed up with the cables connected to my sound system, but unfortunately this isnt the problem, since when I connect my earphones to the PC tower audio entry, the muffled distortion occurs aswell.

Basically I must discard the effectof any peripherals and therefore believe that the problem revolves to the sound card

Not sure what help this might be, but keep it in mind while you troubleshoot:

If the audio entering an amplifier is too high, it will muffle. FOr ex: your computer sound is turned up, sending high amounts of ausio to powered-external speakers. those speakers will then have bad distortion, mostly at high olume points in the ausio track. (also sometimes at high bass points). try turning your pc volume quite low and see if the problem presents with standard, unamplified headphones directly connected to the pc. If this solves it then it is an amplifying problem almost guranteed.

A:Muffled Sound

It's probably just from the low bitrate used on online videos. The sound quality of those is bad because of it. If your sound is good with good audio files, then there's nothing wrong with your setup.

Ok this is my first post on any tech help forum so my apologies if i miss out any key information.

Here's the problem, since purchasing my HP Pavillion dv7-1020ea laptop i have had intermittent problems with my speaker sound going muffled, quieter and losing all high tones. This is a continuous problem from the moment the computer starts and doesnt change.

My laptop runs vista 64 with IDT High Definition Audio codec and the drivers are up to date. I have tried enabling and disabling the device, it says it is working fine. Sound from my headphones works fine with none of the muffling. In the IDT control panel, the settings are set correctly, im not attempting to run surround sound or anything.

At first I thought it was a bad connection or something but suddenly the problem disappeared and never happened again for 6 months. But recently I reformatted my PC and as soon as my PC was running again the problem resurfaced. Restarting my PC sometimes fixes it but more often than not it doesn't.

Its very frustrating because I can't pin the source of the problem down. I dont think its a bad connection because it worked fine for 6 months and then when i reformatted it came back. I never experience crackling or jerky sound or short periods of good or bad sound. When i turn my PC on and it wrks, it works fine until my PC is turned off. The problem never just happens as im using my PC, it turns on with the problem, or it turns on without it.

I have all enhancements disa... Read more

I am working on my neighbors computer. It's one I gave her, but I am always trying to get the best performance out of this old thing. It's a running a Mitac motherboard from a Compaq computer with a 500MHz processor, 253MB's of RAM, an ATI PCI video card and an AOpen PCI sound card.

I just reformatted and put Windows 2000 on there. It's a bit slow for the system, but W98 is so unstable and I had little success with that.

The installation went fine. I even updated the BIOS. Now it does have onboard audio, but disabled it, in one way or another, in the BIOS (It still shows up in device manager though for some reason, but that's now disabled)

I also ran into putting in possibly a hacked or virus-infected program on it and it, of course, screwed things up. Luckliy I was able to reload everything and get on with the installation of some other programs.

The problem is, that during start-up, the Windows start-up sound is slightly muffled. I tried putting in a different wave start-up, but it did the same thing. I'm pretty sure the problem isn't the sound card either, since I tested the wav in "Sounds and Multimedia" in Control Panel. It sounded fine there.

I also messed around with the advanced features in that category and changed things like hardware acceleration and such, but I really don't know what I'm doing there.

So it appears to me that the problem is in the startup boot sequence itself, right? Or what else could i... Read more

Hi,
Im having a problem which is driving me mad, muffled sound which makes speech (both in games and on youtube etc) completely inaudible. Just sounds like lots of bass and nothing much else.
I have a Foxconn G31mx motherboard which has built in Realtek audio running Windows 7 32bit. I have downloaded the latest Win7 drivers from both Foxconn and Realtek which has made no difference. I thought it may have somthing to do with a recently installed ATI 4850 gfx card as this has a HDMI port but looking at the installed playback devices all that is available is ''Speakers - Realtek high definition audio device'' which is set as enabled and default and ''Realtek digital output - Realtek high definition audio device'' which is disabled. I have tried every possible combination of enabling and dissabling the various options without success.
Any advice or help would be greatly recieved as my little girl is loosing the will to live not being able to play on Nick Juniour website lol.....

I'm a noob when it comes to the computer world so bear with me. My laptop is about 3 years old and about a year ago, my sound started to get muffled and I couldn't hear voices when I played games. Whenever I move the earphones in the audio jack, I can sometimes pick up the voices, but I have to keep it steady of put a pillow under it to keep it like that. Is it just my computer? Or did something change?

A:Muffled Sound and can't hear talking.

Either the headphone jack is defective or the headphone plug. To determine which it is, use a different headphone (or the small earphones like are used on MP3 players) and see if that works properly. If it does then the jack in the PC is the problem. Unfortunately either the motherboard or a "daughter board" I/O board will have to be replaced. The jacks are enclosed and not (usually) repairable. The printed circuit boards are multi-layer and unless you have the special tools to work on a multi-layer circuit board you can't fix it yourself by replacing the jack.

One other outside possibility. A few PC's, but not all, have the option to reassign the jacks with a Sound Configuration panel. If yours has this, you MAY be able to make the "Line In" jack a headphone jack.

This has been a problem for me for a few months now, but it's just getting unbearable.

So, here's the situation:Oftentimes, my headphones give out muffled audio. It makes it virtually impossible to make out human speech, and just generally isn't very good. In the past, I could fix this by adjusting the headphone jack somewhat, but over time I've had to do it more violently and I'm concerned at this point that I'll harm the computer if I continue doing it. Now, whenever it happens, I have to wiggle the jack around with a decent amount of force to get it to work properly.

I'm not particularly good with computer hardware, so I'm not entirely sure what the exact issue could be. If you need any more information, just ask. I'd be happy to provide it. Any help is appreciated.

Hello. Test by switching to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager2. Expand the Sound, Video & Game Controllers section.3. Right click on the Realtek and select to uninstall.4. Put a check mark in the option to delete the driver software, and then ok.5. Restart the laptop and go back to the Device Manager and check again for a Realtek driver. Keep uninstalling & restarting until Realtek no longer appears under Sound...Controllers and "High Definition Audio Device" appears in its place. "High Definition Audio Device" is the name of the native driver.
[The reason you might have to go through the process more than once is because the driver files for more than one Realtek driver could be on the hard drive. When a Realtek driver is removed, the next one gets installed if Windows can locate the files. Windows installs its generic driver only after all Realtek files have been removed.]
6. At this point, test the audio while the native driver is installed and see if the same problem occurs.
7. When finished testing, download and install a fresh copy of the Realtek driver for your operating system. Get it from your Dell support page. Test the audio again
If the same problem occurs with both the Realtek and the native driver, then probably not a software issue.

There's a wierd bug in win8 dreamspark edition. Iam not getting any notification (sound or display) about incoming email, even when it is allowed in options. Other notifications (messaging) is working correctly. Any thoughts?

A:No sound or display notification about recieving new email

Hello Penc0, and welcome to Eight Forums.

What email client program are you using?

In Windows 8, there is a new Desktop Mail Notification sound event in addition to the usual New Mail Notification sound that needs to be set with the sound you want. The default sound can easily be missed when played.

Mail Notification Sound - Change in Windows 8

Hope this helps,
Shawn

sounds like some wires got crossed, maybe your socket isn't quite all the way in or the jack maybe faulty, try a different jack or try and push the jack all the way in, hope this helps.

Hi all,

I am looking for software that will record an MP3 i play as well as input from microphone. But I want them both to record at the same time and then to save that as an MP3 or similar.

So if i wantes to sing over music, that type of thing. Ive seen some 'karaoke recorders' but you have to pay for all of those so i just wondered if there were any good free ones that ppl knew off?

Would be a massive help!!!

THANK YOU!!

BFG

A:Sound and voice recorder help

This is a bit late, and I don't know if you've found the answer by now, but a good recorder I use to sing over music is Audacity. It's really easy and simple and works perfect.

When i recording anything from the microsphone then the hissing sound is coming up. Anyone tell me what can be the reason of that. No electricity line or product out there.

Or tell me how to remove the hissing sound from the voice in Sound Forge. I tried Normalize it and reduce the voice little bit around 80% but little hissing sound is there.

And tell me there is any software that converts male voice into the female voice.

All of a sudden I can't hear any audio from my Google Voice/Chat. Everything is working correctly and I can use skype fine. It's just google. I tried the flash settings fix and that didn't work. I re-installed the chat client and I've searched the internet for a solution and nothing.

Any ideas?

Update. I just called a friend's phone and it never said I was connected, and I couldn't hear him but he could hear me.

Update 2: Google voice chat works fine

A:Solved: Google Voice No sound

Solved it. It turns out for some reason my sound card was not checked as default sound. I guess Google, unlike Skype and others can't automatically detect your sound card

I have a couple of programs (dialpad and firetalk) that I se. I have a geadset mic (Optimus Nova 79) and a Yahama OPLsaX soundcard. I run Win 95 Rev 2.

No matter what I try to do, the sound transmitted is teribly bassy! I even patched in a Shure SM 57 stage mic to see if that would make it crisp..same sound! How do I tweak this or download an equalizer for using a mic on the Net? Thanks!

I have installed a PCI Internal fax/voice modem and when I am logged in as administrator, I get dialling sounds when connecting.
If I am logged in as my Internet ( standard ) User, I get no dialling sound although it connects OK.
Since the sound works for administrator, this would appear to be a rights config problem, but what ??? - any suggestions ???

Hello all! So last night I started having some issues playing my .mkv files for some unknown reason. First Media Player Classic HC would not even play any .mkv files, so after some frustration and uninstalls/reinstalls I finally got it playing, however with the sound there is an issue that I can't seem to fix. I've been using Sandbox lately because the sound difference is astounding through my 5.1 but it only works properly on the TruSurround XT setting. When I switch it over to WOW HD which I prefer, I can hear all the background noises and effects and music and whatnot but when someone talks, you can't hear their voice...like at all. I did turn it up all the way during dialog and was able to get some robotic sound faintly heard with my receiver and computer volume maxed out. If i switch it back to TruSurround XT during playback everything plays as normal, but I prefer the WOW HD sound instead. I am using the latest version as far as i know 1.10.2.0 - and have uninstalled/reinstalled it as well. Also I do have to use VLC to play .mkv files now as Media Player HC will play them but the volume is drastically low for some reason... any help would be MUCH appreciated! .. Oh yeah also in VLC when Im playing a movie, Transformers for example and switch the option under "Audio Device" to stereo, everything works fine, but of course thats only 2 channels, if I switch it back to 5.1 then thats a no go...

Im thinking that its the sound card but i didnt think it would make that much of a difference. if theres nothing to fix this i think im gunna have to return this laptop and get a different one. If anyone can help PLEAASSE HELP ME!

A:Microphone make my voice sound different on my new laptop. Why?

Just a couple of ideas which I hope will help.

From what you have described it sounds like you have the reverb too high. On the other hand if it is not that then you should check the laptop speakers are muted when recording.

Okay, My microphone works perfectly fine on other computers, but not on mine. Other working mics work on other computers but mine. Instead all mics do something really funky: When I transmit (say on ventrillo or in a game) it transmits my voice and the sound coming out of my headphones. But I am wearing headphones so I SHOULDN'T be transmitting my sound. Somehow it is bypassing my speakers and going into my mic. Also, my mic transmits my voice (and other sound that it shouldn't be transmitting) at a VERY low sound level, even when my transmit level is all the way turned up. Most of the time my transmissions are inaudible. What the heck is going on here and how do I fix it???

I've just installed a new modem and it works fine. The problem arises when i want to conduct voice chat using Msn or Yahoo messengers.

When i try to have a voice conversation using these programs, i get a message that my sound device is being used by another application and i should close it to be able to have voice chat. The thing is when i close the modem connection, the audio setting wizards in these programs start to work, but then there aint any internet connection to have voice chat. I also tried to record and play using the Sound Recorder built in windows and it gives the same error msg when i am connected to the internet using this modem.

Apparently, my modem is creating all this problem. Can somebody please help out?

Thnx in advance

A:Cant have voice chat cos the modem is conflicting with sound device

Very hard to offer advice when you do not supply any details of the computer, the operating system, the modem...

IF its a Windows PC
and IF it's using an internal modem, then "uninstall" the modem from device manager, power down the PC, open the case, shift the modem to another PCI slot and power up.

Reinstall the modem, this time it should be using a different IRQ due to the slot change, and might avoid the conflict.

Make sure you have the modem drivers available before you start.
