I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Re: 8GB Verbatim Micro SDHC card recognized as 1GB Micro SDHC Card

Where did you buy that 8GB SD Card? Are you sure it's genuine?

If you got it from eBay or similar, it may be a fake SD Card that is physically 1GB but reformatted and re-badged as 8GB.

I want to get an SD memory card for my digital camera

I can get a class 4 Micro SDHC Memory Card for the same price
I've loads of SD adapters lying around so can use the smaller one with my digital camera

Will I have any problems doing this??
i.e. get the smaller memory card and use in my camera with the adapter?
Then I have the freedom of using it with my mobile phone if I every needed to

Is there any effect in the speed - the fact that we're using through an adapter?

Thanks!

Hi i was thinking of purchasing a MP3 player from newegg.com <http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855705012>

it says the expansion slot is for micro sd, but i was wondering if it would recognize a micro sdhc, because the biggest micro sd i can find is 2gb and i want at least a 4gb, which would mean i would have to use a micro sdhc.

Please post back if you have any suggestions or know if a micro sdhc would work in a micro sd slot

Thanks-Huffman

SDHC, µSDHC and miniSDHC will not work in their "regular" counterparts. Whether the slot is only an µSD, rather than just not being marketed as HC capable, ask the manufacturer.

Hi SevenForums,
I just bought a brand new Verbatim SDHC 8GB SD card, but whenever I try to extract files to it, it will say disk is write protected. I have tried locking it, unlocking it, but nothing seems to be working. I am using a Kodak 50-IN-1 Card Reader to use the SD card with my computer. Could it be the card reader?

A:How Do I Disable Write Protection on My 8GB SDHC Verbatim SD Card?

Return the card to the vendor and get a replacement. I would think that your card is in the locked position and the slider switch is defective.

We just bought an 8GB SDHC Transcend micro SD card from amazon. I did not realize there were probs. I put it directly into my tower in the card slot and nothing pops up. If I put my regular old 2GB micro SD in the slot, it immediately pops up, but not the SDHC card. Is there a fix for this? Something I can download to make it recognized or did I waste my money and get a piece of junk? Please help. This was actually my son's money; he wanted this, and I did not realize there was an issue with these until I googled the prob and had tons of people's complaints pop up.

Your flash reader is not SDHC compliant. Many SDHC cards come packaged with a small USB adapter. The SDHC card is (likely) not junk.

hi i recently ordered an unlocked htc shadow from newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875502026). it has a micro sd card slot in it, and i was hoping to use the phone as my mp3 player as well. So i was looking around for micro sd cards to see what i could find. Well my first problem was that normal micro sd cards only go up to 2GB. So i looked at micro sdhc (hc stands for high capacity) and i found up to 16GB. Also when i was looking at the phone specs for the htc shadow i one site said it only supported up to 4GB micro sd cards. Frankly i think thats ridiculous and the source is probably not reliable.

So what im really wondering is can i use a micro SDHC in my phone and do you think it will be able to read more than 4GB. Sorry for the long post i just want to be thorough. Anyways your answers will be much appreciated, thanks so much

A:Micro sdhc in htc shadow

As you noted, there is a difference between SD and SDHC; the HC stands for High Capacity. If the device (the card reader) doesn't support SDHC, it won't work. It likely won't even see an SDHC card.
So an SDHC card won't work in that device.

Some older SD readers may not work with some SD cards over 1 GiB in size as well.

SD is for cards up to 4 GiB
SDHC is for 4 GiB - 32 GiB.
SDXC is for 32 GiB - 2 TiB

Hi all
given the fact that some micro SDHC cards are already 32 GB capacity and it won't be too long before 64 and even 128GB one's are available -- is SSD technology --although still in its infancy already on its way out.

Seems to me that if Micro SDHC cards can reach this sort of capacity (64 / 128 GB) capacity and the electronics is fast enough --these cards will last infinitely longer than an SSD drive and won't have any of the attendant properties of these drives either.

(Having just spent nearly 400 USD on a 256 GB SSD I could have been jumping the gun).

While USB2 or even USB3 is still comparatively slow there is no reason why a micro SDHC card with the proper interface should not be faster than an SSD on an enhanced IDE / SATA bus.

Cheers
jimbo

A:SSD or Micro sdHC cards ??

It isn't just the memory capacity that matters. You are forgetting one very key part of an SSD....the controller. A flash memory card still needs to run over some type of connection that's inherently slower, even if it was an eSATA card-reader, or something of the sort. An SSD uses a built-in controller (Sandforce, ie) to provide direct access (and maintenance functions) between the SATA interface and the memory.

I just recently inherited a Dell E6520 and am having a problem getting it to see a 16gb SDHC card from my camera. I am running Win 7 Pro 64bit, and the machine acknowledges the USB card reader, but does not see the card. The same card and reader combination works perfectly on my desktop running the same OS. When I insert the card in the on board reader in the laptop it is completely ignored. The machine was reimaged just before before it came to me and is 100% up to date with the Microsoft update site, and there are no red or yellow X's or triangles in the device manager. Any and all thoughts and suggestions welcome. Thanks!

A:16GB SDHC card not recognized, Win 7 Pro

Plug the USB card reader into the Back USB port of the computer and not the front or through a Hub, as these port are weaker. With the card in, go to Start/Search and type diskmgmt.msc, right click the diskmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Disk Management window, in the lower half you should see your USB Card Reader, and it should see your Card, however the files system may be Unallocated Space, or the Disk # (eg) Disk 1, Disk 2 etc may say Not Initialized (RAW)
If so, backup any files you want off of the card in the computer that can read it, Return the card here and in Disk Management, Right click the Unallocated Space/Create a new Simple Volume, Format it NTFS.

I have a motley crew of oddball SD's and Micros, some high capacity some not. so far I have not seen one that would just flat fail in system chores, but I am wondering: what brand/part, or what Spec do you experts look for in such items?? I'm sure some are faster than others, and perhaps some more durable for lots of wipes/rewrites, storage of boot records, etc? I need to get a couple of higher capacity ones and wanted some advice before ordering.

My answer is probably not quite what you are looking for, but I mostly just look at brand and price. I usually buy a SanDisk card because I'm familiar with the brand name and their usually a little cheaper than camparable Kingston cards. I've also only ever had one stop working in 6 years of buying them. Basically, if I haven't heard of the brand I stay away from it. since you asked about speed, below is a link to a wikipedia page that discribes the how the different speeds are catagorized for SD cards.

I had the very same problem running XP home trying to read a micro SanDisk 4Gb SD HC. My fix I do not actually understand but what worked was buying a USB micro SD reader that stated specifically that it supported the SD HD (high density) cards. The one I bought was a SanDisk brand. I would have expected all readers to be pinned out identically but there must be a difference somewhere. I did not need to load any software specifically for the SD HD reader.

@YoannFromParis, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums. When dealing with the issues from doing an update to Windows 10 there are a few things that may work to fix the issue. First thing to try is running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. The next step is to run the HP BIOS recovery to reload the BIOS to see if it will sync up with the operating system. HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS And if this fails to fix the problem, if you did the update to Windows 10 you can do the stand alone installation to see if it fixes any conflict. Download Windows 10 The other option is to roll back to the previous operating system until new updates get released by Microsoft and then uploaded on the HP support page for your notebook. Please let me know how things go. Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

I have a Sony VGC RB62G computer with Win XP SP3. It will not recognize a 4GB SDHC card. Where can I find the drivers for the SDHC card?

A:SDHC Card

Hello and Welcome -A quick line or 2 on SD and SDHC complianceIf your computer's internal card reader works with 2GB (or lower) SD cards but fails to read a 4GB (or higher) SDHC card, then the computer's internal reader is not SDHC compliant. This same logic also applies to digital cameras, if the digital camera reads 2GB (or lower) SD cards but fails to read a 4GB (or higher) SDHC card, then the digital camera is not SDHC compliant.SD and SDHC specificationsThe initial SD card specification defined the interface for cards only up to 2GB capacity. The subsequent SDHC specification was developed to provide increased capacity of 4GB ? 32GB cards. Computers and other products purchased before 2008 may not be SDHC compatible. Computers and other products purchased before 2007 are not SDHC compatible.Verifying the card reader slotIf the card reader slot on your computer does not have the SDHC logo, it is most likely not SDHC compatible and will only read cards up to 2GB capacity.Other options you can use to read files on your SDHC cardIf your computer's card reader is not SDHC compatible, you have 3 options available:1. You can connect your camera (or other device) that works with SDHC to your computer using a USB cable that came with the camera. You should be able to transfer files to the computer this way.2. You can contact your computer manufacturer to see if they have a free firmware update for your model that will make it SDHC compatible3. You can buy inexpensive ... Read more

I plugged in my SD/SDHC Card device into my computer, multiple times to no avail. It's possible that my computer didn't detect it. How can I fix this?

A:Help with SD/SDHC card

Hi Angelique1472, and welcome to TSG.

I can't tell from your subject line and post if you are having a problem with plugging an SD/SDHC card into a reader on the computer or if your are having a problem with attaching an SD/SDHC reader to the computer.

In the first case, if you are using an SDHC card and an older computer, the reader may not be compatible with SDHC cards and may only support SD cards below a certain capacity.

In the second case, the reader may not be detected until there is a memory card plugged into it. If it is an older reader, it may not be compatible with SDHC cards. The reader may also require drivers be installed on the computer in order to function.

In any case, please give us the details of all the hardware involved and the version of the operating system running on your computer.

I was curious about how to fix an SDHC card that has started telling the camera the memory card has an error and that it is locked. Then when you went to put it in the computer the computer won't recognize it at all either. I did a Google on this problem and the only thing I could find was about the little slide on the side that would lock the card.

That was not the case with this as it happened in the camera. We were at a Luau in Maui and the card went to 0 and said Memory card error. Not a nice thing to see when you have a couple days worth of pictures from Kauai and another couple from Maui. I then placed the card in the computer when we got back from the Luau hoping I could recover them from the card. No program was going to be able to recover them because now the computer will not even recognize the card when I put it in. I got myself a HD video camera some time ago, and now I just need to buy myself a SDHC card for it. It will be 16GB, and has to be Class 6 minimum. I am rather confused on which one I should really consider purchasing. I have uploaded the pictures, so anyone can go have a look at them. I managed to narrow it down a bit to the ones that have a lifetime warranty on them, and of course are Class 6. I would prefer not to spend more than 100NZD + GST on one if possible. Each of the pictures should be showing NZD and GST anyway.
Which would would be the best one to pick, and why?

A:What SDHC card to choose....

I don't know if it's my screen resolution or your screen capture; but, I can't read the specs.

First, I would be sure my camera will not exceed the card's write speed. From there, all that would matter to me would be its read speed. The slower the read, the longer it would take to transfer data from the card.

As for lifetime warranty, bear in mind that one year from now, that same card may cost half as much and two years from now, the cost of shipping it back for replacement will probably not be much more than the cost of a new one of the same capacity. Bearing that in mind I would not consider a lifetime warranty of any more value than a two- or three-year warranty.

Help,

I bought a Canon 450D with an 8gb SDHC, didnt format the card, took a load of photos, then realised my computer would not recogise the card at all, i mean nothing, when in the SD drive and using an external card drive, so i tried connecting the camera to the computer and still nothing. Now the camera wont even recognise the photos and just says the card needs to be formatted, so i gave up on saving the photos but the camera will not even format the card now! So its useless to me right now.

I then bought a second 8gb card, formatted it this time, took a load of photos, still computer will not even recognise card, at all. But i do have a 512mb old card that works perfectly, no problems, instantly recognised.

Any thoughts? Are these two 8gb cards of any use? I did download and try 'Recuva' to find the photos but it was unable to find the card.

Any ideas appreciated.

A:Computer cannot see 8gb SDHC card

Older readers can’t read the new HD cards. But you should be able to access the photos through the camera connection. You didn’t say whether you tried the camera with the second card.

It sounds like the first card might have been defective. I don’t think you would get that kind of indication if the card had the write protection switch on, but check it anyway.

Hi, currently i'm very outdated since all I own is an Olympus SD card with 128mb memory which i've been using in my Fuji digital camera that i bought long ago.
see: http://www.shopping.com/Fuji-FUJIFILM-128-sec-XD-Picture-Card-DPC-128/info

At this time, the card has become pretty full, so decided to buy one with more memory.

But all I see now in stores are SDHC memory cards which look somewhat different than the SD card i've been used to.

The guy at the Walmart tech dept. couldn't say for sure if their SDHC cards would fit my digital camera, because my camera & SD card were at my house, and he didn't want to guarantee a fit, sight unseen.

Can someone please advise which current ones would be as compatible for my camera as the above linked one?

Thanks

Upon the detection of a "removable" device, Windows can do a few different things. For example, insert a CD-ROM, and it will ask "open to view files", or "play music".In fact, Windows can be set to "automatically" do one of those choices. So, I think that, in the past, you had told Windows to automatically run some software to upload the pictures. But, that "default" seems to have been "lost". If you double-click that 'SDHC', does Windows pop-up a menu of choices? Is there a check-box to "automatically use my choice each time" ? If you open 'Computer', do you see a list of devices, e.g., 'C:' for your disk-drive, 'D:' for your CD/DVD,and maybe 'E:' is associated with the SDHC device? Double-click on 'E:', and see what happens.

I'm having trouble with my laptop. It's an ASUS laptop running on Windows 8.1. I've had this computer for about a year now and have had no trouble before with having it pick up whatever SD cards that I insert into the port. However, a few weeks ago, I noticed that it will no longer read SD cards at all. When I updated to Windows 8.1 about 3-4 days ago, nothing changed. Cards still will not be read. I've tried 4 different SD cards before and after I undated windows. I've also tested the SD cards on other computers to make sure that the cards themselves were not faulty. {Which they are not. They are perfectly fine on other computers.} I've snooped through Disk Management on my windows and the SD cards will not show up on the list.

I'm hoping to get some help with this problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi.

I recently upgraded my Windows Vista 32 into a Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm not very tech savvy so I can't tell you details unless informed on how to. It's a Toshiba Satellite

Sorry, back to the topic, I have an SDHC card, and it worked fine, but I left it alone for a month or so and now I've tried to use it, and it won't read, and now my computer keeps making the sound as if I have inserted the card or a usb device into the computer. DO you think an upgrade may have messed with my computer?

A:Windows 7 SDHC Card not being read.

Welcome to SevenForums.

Since the upgrade to windows 7 might have not find any drivers during the process, i'll suggest you to go on the manufacturer site, searching for your computer model and see if there's any.

PS: Be more detailled about your laptop model, there's plenty of Toshiba Satellite!

Any ideas why the 4GB SDHC might not be recognized by my computer? Might it be too large for my old HP Pavillion a320n?

A:Computer will not read 4GB SDHC card

It might be. Quite a few things won't read the SDHC cards. I'd consider looking for a card reader, maybe one that fits in a drive bay (floppy or cd) if you don't want anything external.

I have a small little card reader on the front of my laptop,
previously it's been able to read my card,
now it doesn't read it, well it kind of does but if I click to open it
it says to insert a card, it shows in My Computer but I can't access it
if I put any of my other cards in then they're read fine
i've even used other adapters and tried moving the card
but it doesn't work, also today for some unknown reason
there's now a pin on the card when it's in my phone
it has no un/lock slider on this card it seems the phone has randomly pinned it
I can't reformat it, it has stuff on there I can never get back
is there any way to fix the problem?

As a birthday present I was given an 8GB SDHC card for my Nikon camera. When I put the card into my computer SD slot to download the photographs it does not read the card. I understand that there is a problem with the high capacity cards on older computers. Is there a fix for Windows Vista or should I purchase a USB card reader that will support HC cards? My system info is displayed below.
Thanks in anticipation.

Recently I have acquired a 32GB SDHC memory card.

The card accepts audio and video data but when trying to play them on windows media player/real player the players message that the format or the codec used to compress the files is unknown to the players.

Tried K-Lile 9.10 full version and FFRoad show of no avail.

My system is windows XP with SP3 runs on Pentium 4 platform.

Any suggestion please?

Will my XPS 8300 support an SD/SDHC memory card in one of the front slots?
I'm currently using an SD/mini-MMC/RS card OK, but I can't find anything to confirm that an SD/SDHC card will work as well.
Thanks in advance for your help!

So here is my dilemma. I have a 4GB SDHC card I wanted to use in a camera that doesn't support SDHC cards, just old SD cards. I read that SD cards use FAT16 and format upto 2GB. Is there an application I could use to format my SDHC with FAT16 and bring it down to a 2GB partition?

I just want to see if it'll actually work

A:Format 4GB SDHC card to FAT16

Use the cmd/ format command.

I just bought a 4 gb SDHC card for my camera. The camera recognizes the card; however, the computer does not. I have tried the card on several computers, all of which are more than one year old, and none of them recognize the card. Is this because of the antiquity of the individual computers, or is this a problem with the card?

I plan to purchase a CANON S5IS digital camera, and someone recommended that I use SDHC memory cards. I recently bought a Digital Concepts 21-in-1 Card Reader/Writer; however, I don't see the SDHC designation shown on the package. The only SD cards listed are: SD; SD-Ultra; SDC; and Mini SD. Will this reader read an SDHC card as well? Thank you.

If it the same model as this one it should do:
