Help with Replacing the X1 Yoga Keyboard to an US English Layout Keyboard

Q: Help with Replacing the X1 Yoga Keyboard to an US English Layout Keyboard

So I purchased a Lenovo X1 Yoga in Japan and I absolutely hate Japanese keyboard layouts (anyone that has used one after using a US keyboard knows what I mean - a space bar that is smaller than the enter key, poor placement of certain keys, specifically ", ', and @. There is just no logic behind any of it and honestly, there is no need. One can easily type in Japanese, just fine, with a standard US English layout keyboard. Sorry, I guess I didn't need to state that, but perhaps it will help with SEO to ensure someone finds this page when searching for those keywords. Anyway, I finally found the information I needed to swap this keyboard out (and throw it in the trash), even though Lenovo support in Japan basically told me it's not possible. It does seem like a huge undertaking though (as you basically have to dismantle the entire laptop to get the keyboard out). But it does seem as though the English keyboards are compatible with all X1 Yoga laptops (even my Japanese X1 Yoga). The Lenovo customer service staff told me to get FRU PN: 00JT864 (00JT864 N KBD,US,LB,screw,CHY,Backlit), which is the US English replacement keyboard. It's also specified on the PDF document on this page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/PD103738 ) for the 20FR and 20FQ. Scroll half way down and you will see it. However, I am having trouble finding the keyboard from a seller in Asia, with the same FRU #. When searching for 00JT864, the only source I can find is in the US. However, when searching for "X1 Yoga Keyboard 20FR" several sellers come up on sites in China. The keyboard looks the same and it states it's for the X1 Yoga 20FR laptop, which is what I got. But when you look at the pictures and zoom in on the labels which have the FRU PN listed. It's not the 00JT864. It's usually either one of these two: 00PA042 & 00PA072 So I tried calling Lenovo support in the US, to see if someone could confirm these two FRU numbers are in fact, for the X1 Yoga and that they will work. Unfortunately, that guy was less helpful than the Japan Lenovo customer service person. So, before I spend 50$ on this keyboard, I'd like to confirm it's the right one. Anyone know how I can confirm this? These numbers are no where to be seen in that BOM spec sheet linked above, and I feel it should be, if they are compatible. So I'm a bit stuck at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated! For those interested to swap out this keyboard, I have provided two links below. I searched everywhere and there is literally NOTHING on Youtube explaining how to do it. All videos (the few that exists) are for the Carbon X1 not the Yoga. It's like nobody has this laptop. However, Lenovo has some great videos demonstrating how to take apart each section of the laptop. Check these: Repair/Service Manual - https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x1carbon_mt20fb-20fc_x1yoga_hmm_en_sp40j72016.pdf Technical Support Videos:https://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/showcase?sid=1133&key=TGVuZw==

Hello everyone...

I'm a new user of the Windows 7 operating system. So far I'm content with it, it's just that I have one problem unsolved. I've been trying for the past few weeks to remove the English US keyboard without any success. I have no problem adding any new keyboards/languages, but that specific keyboard just won't go away, and it's causing me trouble.

I've Googled it and found no answer. Is there any way I could do something about it? Anyone has any idea? Anything would be useful. Thanks for this community and thanks in advance for your help.

Ok, I have searched everywhere on Google for a solution to this, but I couldn't even find anyone else with this problem. My problem is, that after being on my computer for awhile, the English layout will appear out of nowhere in the language bar, even though I do not have it activated, so there is no way I can get rid of it, except for restarting my computer. Does anyone know how I could get it to stop doing this? To most people it probably wouldn't be a problem, but it bothers me to have it there when I won't use it, and I always make extensive use of keyboard shortcuts, and skipping from one layout to another a lot, so it makes it harder and longer to switch between them. I have included a picture to illustrate this.

Also, to avoid making two threads (unless I should), does anyone know how to edit the layouts of the Korean IME's layout, so I can have the Korean characters in a custom layout, instead of the prescribed way? Many thanks in advance for both questions, and thank you for your time!

I don't have the windows software CD to try to do a system restore and I'm not sure if you can even do a system rstore if you can't logon. I've tried just about everything that I could think of and nothing has worked. At this point I dont care if I losse everything on the computer I just need it to work. Could someone please help me or at least point me in the right direction to get this issue solved. How can I fix this???

Hi, I have purchased a Yoga 900-13ISK on the US (with US keyboard layout), but I would like to know if it is possible to replace the keyboard with a Brazillian keyboard type. I looked over the internet and I did found a compatible PT-BR keyboard for this notebook (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/NEW-BR-for-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Yoga-4-PRO-Yoga-900-backlit-Brazil-Laptop...), but the Upper Case will not fit into it because the frames are from the US layout. I also checked the manual (https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/yoga_900-13isk_hmm_201509.pdf) on page 53 (item 2) to try to find the part number of the upper case that fits, but I don't know which one I can use (I could not find which one accepts the PT-BR keyboard). here are the part numbers extracted from the manual:2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB JP 5CB0K48428 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB US 5CB0K48434 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB GK 5CB0K48431 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB KR 5CB0K48416 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB CH 5CB0K48452 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB RU 5CB0K48441 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB AR-E 5CB0K48438 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB HE 5CB0K48471 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB TH 5CB0K48424 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB INDIA 5CB0K48419 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB USA 5CB0K48464 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB UK 5CB0K48443 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB IT 5CB0K48450 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB SP 5CB0K48475 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB TR 5CB0K48469 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB PO 5CB0K48477 N2 Upper Case L 80MK W/KB LA 5CB0K48462 N2 Upper Case L 80... My Yoga Book YB1-X91F displays ON THE HALO KEYBOARD the French layout, with a "tall" enter key and French words on it, and the backslash key on the opposite/left edge of the keyboard instead of above the enter key. I want it to show the standard old IBM-PC-style layout which has a "wide" enter key, and a backslash right above it, and no French words printed on it. My question, is there a proven verifiable way to change the way the Halo keyboard LOOKS and WORKS so it is the standard US Qwerty layout???? I have fought with this for hours. This is for Windows 10 *NOT* Android Please see the illustration which shows what it shows that I don't want, and what it does not show that I DO want. The screen shots are from the web: i have never seen my Halo display the proper layout. Existing support items are never clear on this exact issue, while they mention keyboard issues, so I am mentioning this. I have set the keyboard in Control Panel to US and Qwerty. The YB1-X91F model is specifically for the US, so I don't know why Halo shows as French.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Flex 2 14 which came with a British keyboard but I noticed you can take off the keyboard and swap it out for another one - you can find backlit versions, or a version with a different layout. I got a keyboard for it with Japanese hiragana on it, but the laptop doesn't seem to recognise any of the extra keys this keyboard comes with which have key codes not used by other languages. These keys include: | -? \ ??????the ????, ???? and ???? toggleI would have assumed this was to do with the fact that these are keys from a 106/109 key layout as opposed to the standard 102 key, so I replaced the keyboard driver with Microsoft's 106/109 key keyboard driver, but that hasn't had any effect - it still can't see these keys being pressed. The ??/?? ?? key works because it uses the same key code as the tilde on other keyboards, but that's all. My hypothesis for why this might not be possible to fix is that the ribbon connection between the keyboard and the motherboard could only support 102-key layouts in Europe, and therefore the only way to be able to use these extra input conversion keys without a different motherboard altogether would be to use an external USB keyboard. I may have just made up what I said about the motherboard though, so does anyone know if there's a driver I can use to solve this problem and be able to use the extra keys? I can't just use a key mapper like KeyTweak ... I have a Dell M1330 Laptop that has served me quite well for several years. I just replaced the keyboard the other day and everything is working fine, except that the new keyboard has a slightly different layout than the old keyboard did. For example, with the new keyboard all the F1, F2, F3, etc.. keys have function secondaries on them like multimedia, brightness, antennae toggle, and so on. My old keyboard didnt have most of these and so when I attempt to use them on the new keyboard they simply do not work. In fact when I use function keys as if I still had my old keyboard installed the functions work, which means it is the software interpretation of the keys that I need to change. Does anybody know how I can fix this so that the keys of the new keyboard and functions match what the keys actually say?

Another thing to add is that some of the new function keys on the new laptop such as antennae toggle were not on my last keyboard at all because they are softkeys on the case of my computer, and I am not sure a function like that would be able to be added to the keyboard mapping at all, but I'm not sure.

Also, I would prefer to not install third party software to accomplish this, even if it means I need to delve into the registry manually. Can anybody help??

The instructions/video for removing and replacing the keyboard are quite good. However, I had the following issue when replacing the keyboard. The instructions say to be in tablet mode when sliding the keyboard back into position. Would this not mean that the keys should be in the recessed position when putting the keyboard back in? That way, when you swing the lid back to normal laptop use, the keys will move become "unrecessed" again. Without this, after I replace the keyboard, I find that the lid cannot be closed any longer. In other words the sequence I am experiencing is this:To remove keyboard, move laptop into tablet position. Keys get recessed. I remove the keyboard.I put the new keyboard in. Keys are not recessed at this stage. New keyboard goes in - can't close lid any longer. Any tricks to this that I am missing?

Hi SPea63,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It would help if you can add a snapshot of the part to help us get perhaps specific part number.

If this is one specific with a single key, I don't think there are available parts as OEM would replace the entire keyboard (page 44). Other non official key replacement provider may be helpful instead like this as example.

Update us soon as convenient.

Issue since moving from IE9 to IE11 in the office

I've changed the Language Preference on IE11 to add both of them, English by default
Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

Thanks

Did you reinstall the keyboard driver from keyboard vendor? In windows it will install the generic driver just so the device will function but to use the keyboards full functionality you have to install the keyboard driver. With the auto detect enabled windows will sometimes install the incorrect drivers.

Hi,

So this is really frustrating me.

I usually use the "United States - International" keyboard layout, since I like being able to do accents and use the Alt-GR key. However recently it has been causing problems and I'm not sure why.

One of the biggest examples is the ' key, usually if I press it and then a space it types either ' or ", depending on if I press shift or not. Well, in Firefox, I have to keep pressing the key about 4 times before it finally types two 's and I have to erase one. Pressing space does nothing. And if I press shift+6, it types "^^", as in, the character twice.

I could not figure out what was causing this, so I switched the layout back to US, and it works fine. But I simply cannot use US-International without it doing weird stuff. I tried "sfc /scannow", it found some problems and fixed them, but it's STILL doing the same thing.

Additionally, it appears something else weird is going on as when I try to use ALT codes, they don't do what they're supposed to... like most of them make a heart (♥) instead of what they SHOULD be doing.

I even tried making a custom keyboard layout, opening the normal US International on a completely different computer, then saving it and installing it on here, and it STILL does what I described above.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? I'd really like to get it fixed as without a working keyboard it's kinda hard to do my everyday business...

Hi,

I have moved from the US to Germany and would now like to swap my keyboard to German in order to be able to use the "umlauts" needed over here...
Can someone point me to a site were I can buy them? (Yes I know that I can change the layout in windows, however it is really confusing to get an z while typing y...)

Thanks!

Johannes

A:Need Keyboard with German layout

Hello Johannes

I do not know which Portege notebook you have but Googling around I am pretty sure you can find keyboard with German layout. Second solution to this is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They can order the right keyboard for you.

Oh yes, the one more thing: check eBay. There you can find so many hardware components for different notebook models.

Don't know what Neo 2.0 is, but keyboard layouts can be added in Configuration -> Country and language

Good luck

Hi,

I have Win7 Family Premium. It looks like it's the french version (I bought it in Quebec, which makes sense).

The PC has 4 accounts, one for each member of my family.

For some reason, I can't set my default keyboard layout to "French Canada".

At the moment, I have the keyboard icon in my taskbar. If I click it, three options are displayed : French (Canada), Traditional French (Canada), and Show Language bar. By default, Traditional French is selected, which is what annoys me. If I right-click it, and click on Settings..., I get the "Services de texte et de langues" dialog. It says that my default input language is French (Canada). It is the only option in the select box, e.g. French Traditional is not there. Also, in the "Installed services" box in the lower left, again, only French (Canada) in installed (language, and keyboard layout).

Sometimes, when I boot the PC, the keyboard icon is NOT in the taskbar, and I do have the French Canada layout loaded. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with what member of my family logs in first... Most of the time though, the icon is there, and French Traditional is loaded by default.

My goal : to ALWAYS have ONE AND ONLY ONE keyboard layout: French (Canada).

Since it's not even shown in the "Services de texte et de langues" dialog, I have to idea how to remove the French Traditional one ?!?

Thanks.

A:Can't set my default keyboard layout

If you want to change the default selected language | Keyboard Layout - Change

If you want to remove an additional language input:

In the start menu type Change Keyboards.
Click Change keyboards.
Select the Keyboard you want to remove by clicking on it, then click the Remove button to the right.
Confirm both windows and you're done .

Hi all, I'm having a major stress. I don't know why it's happened but my keyboard has gone from UK layout to US (the @ and " positions have swapped as have |#|).

I've spent ages looking for help on this forum and others, googled the h*** out of the sucka, but I can't work out how to get it back. My main problem can be seen from the screenshot below (I hope).

As you can see, for some reason I have no default keyboard layouts. What can I do to get them back, reinstall them or what ever so my layout is restored to UK. I'd rather not have to install a 3rd party app, and I'm comfortable with writing something to the registry if need be.

I've also noticed during this that I can't see the language bar, and can't restore it.

I'm running windows 7 home prem, with sp1 (aparently all the latest updates).

Appreciate your help

A:No Default Keyboard Layout

valveless, welcome to sevenforums.com!

You just need to click on the Add button on that window and select
English (United Kingdom) - Keyboard - United Kingdom

Language bar is not available yet, because you do not have any input languages installed. Use the method I described to add languages, and after that language bar can be available.

More detailed information is available as a Tutorial.
