Preferred Solution: windows Fatal system error after installing ubuntu [from Linux Support]

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm planning on purchasing the following laptop:

Ubuntu Linux version 10.04
Intel® Celeron™ Processor ULV U3400 (2M Cache, 1.06GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Aberdeen Silver for WLAN
13.3 inch HD WLED Display (1366x768) with Anti-Glare
2.0MP Webcam with Digital Mic for Win 7
2.0GB, DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM, 1 DIMM
250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD (Intel GHA HD)
Dell Wireless 1702 802.11n/BT3.0 Combo

For the $450 price point, I really like what is being offered, except that I don't want Linux as the OS and would rather install Windows 7. I recently did purchase Windows 7 so I was wondering if it is possible to install Windows 7 in place of Linux OS that it comes with?

Since there is not CD/DVD-Rom, what would be the best option to do it?

In addition, is the process of deleting Linux and installing Windows 7 pretty complicated? I just dont want to mess up the laptop, like drivers etc. If Windows 7 can be installed, only then will I purchase this laptop.

I've been trying to find a proper instructions link to do the above, but no such luck so far.

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

I built this system in March 2009 and windoze vista 64 home premium.

This particular edition of vista was a nightmare from day one and I eventually found a work-a-round to get Ubuntu installed. NO Linux support from the MB manufacturer.

5 days after getting it to a dual boot system, vista stopped recognizing the mouse and keyboard.

So, I have a MOBO that doesn't like Ubuntu and is a nightmare to try to fond workarounds for.

Here is what I have to work with:

XFX nForce 750a SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID

AMD Phenom 9500 Processor HD9500WCGDBOX - 2.20GHz, 4 x 512KB Cache, 1800MHz (3600 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Quad-Core, Retail, Socket AM2+, Processor with Fan

Kingston PC6400 800MHz 4GB DDR2 Desktop Memory - (2 x 2048MB), 240 Pin

OCZ SLI-Ready Dual Channel 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2x2048MB)

XFX GeForce 9600 GSO Fatal1ty Edition Video Card - 768MB DDR2, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Link DVI, SLI Ready

Seagate 500GB Serial ATA HD 7200/16MB/SATA-3G

And the full sized ATX tower w/750 watt PS.

Which Motherboards would be the best to work with that HAS Linux SUPPORT?

Thanks for all the help over the years guys!

I truly do appreciate it!

A:Motherboard with Ubuntu/Linux support

Is there a specific component on that motherboard that you're having problems with? I can't imagine that the motherboard is not "compatible" with linux - in fact, I've found threads with people using Ubuntu with that mobo. I also find it odd that you'd have a Windows Vista issue with that mobo since most of the users I see online who use it are running Vista or 7 64-bit. Perhaps you have a faulty motherboard and it's not a problem with the model itself.

I recently installed 1gb or RAM in my machine with no problems and it worked for three days. Now my computer has crashed saying Windows Explorer encountered a problem. After that I held down the power button and turned off the machine. Now everytime I turn it on it runs sometimes until the welcome screen and then it will just terminate randomly with a blue screen of death. I can't get into my desktop to actually run hijack this or whatever either.

The BSOD just says it's a fatal error and it's terminated unexpectedly. I tried running in safe mode and it still randomly terminates. I did get to the desktop though in Safe Mode, but not long enough to do a system restore.

I really need help I have work stuff on that PC.

Meanwhile Ima conduct a search of the the site. :)

Hello, I am new to this forum and hope you guys can help me out with my issue, any help is appreciated. Now, the problem that I am having is that I am trying to install a RTM version of Windows 7 Ultimate onto my pc, and the installation seems to go well but when it gets to the finalizing stage after I put in my new username and it successfully activates the key, the computer reboots and i get the following error:

Stop: C000021a{Fatal System Error}
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000001 (0xc0000001 0x0010038c). The system has shut down.

Now what's odd about this whole thing is that I was and am running Windows 7 Build 7100 and did not have any problem installing Build 7100. And I was also able to install the RTM Windows 7 on a laptop with no problem, so I know it's not a problem with the DVD. I only get a problem when I try to install it onto my pc. I have a Gateway FX530S, 2GB of Ram, and am running Windows 7 Build 7100...

Any help will be appreciated. I really want to get the RTM Windows 7 installed because my 7100 Build expires in March.

Thank you in advance

A:"Fatal System Error" when installing Windows 7

Are you using separate keys for the two installs? I never enter a key until I see if it is running OK. Just do not enter a key and uncheck the activate while online and you will have 30 days to check the install.

How are you installing the RTM on the desktop--a custom install?

Hi, I have purchased this laptop with Windows 10 Home pre-Installed. But due to some Professional requirements, I want to install a Developer friendly linux distro on it. I'll be using many VMs in that distro along with a possible installation of Windows via Wine. Therefore, I want to be sure about the aftermath of all this, including Driver support and battery usage. Has any fellow developer tried the above mentioned linux distros (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / Linux Mint 18.1) on it without any problems? I have checked that it supports Ubuntu 14.04 but want to use the latest LTS versions. Just want to make sure that nothing gets messed up.

You could purchase an extra SSD or maybe a couple of them, replace the internal drive with an SSD, saving the factory Windows OS in case you want to change it back.  Just a thought.
I have put Linux Mint 18.1 on two new Dell Inspiron i7 7000 series and it installed and ran without issue.  Be SURE you get Nvidia graphics!

A:trouble installing fedora 14 and ubuntu after deleting linux partition

Be careful with Fedora 14. You have separate partitions and one thing Fedora does is merge all partitions into one logical volume group. You have a backup
partition which contains drivers for your computer/laptop, ideally I would make a copy of this data before you install.

Is there some reason you prefer Fedora over Ubuntu? Both use Gnome 2.32 as the desktop, with the addition that Ubuntu 11.04 will install Unity desktop as well.

Unfortunately you cant tell much from the windows partition manager as drives are just assigned a letter, and you can only have 4 primary partitions.
Post on the linux forum if youre happy with your windows setup, Wmorri is Fedora Ambassador, but when you do please provide the following information.
Boot with the Ubuntu CD in Live mode (or try before installing). It will pick up your network, open a terminal and post output of:

fdisk -l

I have installed Linux Mint 19 several times on my ideapad 320-15ABR, using both UEFI and Legacy settings. Always the same issue. Everything works on the Live CD and on the first boot. After that, during boot, the screen dims and never gets bright again. The driver is amdgpu and I can find no evidence of changes between the working boot and the 'dim' boot. I have looked all over the web and tried multiple 'solutions' but none have worked. Suggestions/solutions most appreciated. Will have to return this unit if I cannot make it work. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I was running my Laptop( HP Compaq nx6125, AMD 64 Turion) and think it's been infected with virus. I'm not sure whats happened but Java kept opening automatically, so I restarted the laptop and the problem persisted. It was rather annoying so I decided I would reinstall windows XP service pack 2, as I have the disk.

I had been through the first parts of the setup process, then, once it became time to restart the laptop, an error message appeared from the system setup log saying

ERROR: Installation Failed - D:\I386\asms

Error Message: Access is denied.

Fatal Error: One of the components windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. Access is denied.

I've come across a few sites and I'm wondering if there anything I could possibly download in order to fix my problem, and then load it onto disk and then onto the laptop in order to reset it in some way ?? I'm thinking I need to reformat the whole hard drive, is this the case, or would I be able to save certain files ??? I've seen software available like FreeDOS and e-maxx, but I'm not quite sure what these do or how to work them either..I'm really stuck, and suck...please!!

Any help would be much appreciated!

A:After Accidentally Installing Ubuntu, Windows System Restore...

That is because the hard disk is formatted to a type that Windows does not recognize. F11 does not work because the HP Recovery Manager in the D: partition was deleted during the Ubuntu install. The following HP Partner sells recovery kits.  (in the US and Canada only) They do have a recovery kit for your notebook for $27.00 USD. See the following link.http://www.computersurgeons.com/search.aspx?searchterm=dv6-6c53cl In Europehttp://www.best2serve.com/page/rcd_landing An HP recovery disk set or usb  recovery media is the least expensive way to return Windows to your notebook. Otherwise, you will have to pay for a complete licensed Windows OS installer and that can be expensive. The next time you see "click here to install to hard disk", don't do it. You will need to use a Windows install disk of any kind to return your hard disk to a format that Windows can recognize.

Alright, here’s my deal (I hope ya’ll can help..):
The Bottom-Line (Short-Version): I bought a couple PC’s with Ubuntu (Linux) installed. I need XP on it. My XP Install disc doesn’t work (error pops up), if I tried to partition the drive, I’ll mess it up for sure; what the hell do I do?

What I’ve Done (Detailed-Version): I recently bought a couple computers (Dell Optiple X GX150) that originally had the XP OS on it; currently, Ubuntu (Linux) resides as the OS (which is a bad thing, in this case).

I would like to uninstall/delete ‘Ubuntu’ and put ‘Windows XP’ (or any other version for this matter) as my main & ONLY operating system. I have a “Windows XP Installation Disc” that I TRIED to use and install. I downloaded “Wine” & “Crossover”, each opens the .EXE on the disc and allows me to explore. In “Setup”, it asks: “What do you want to do?” When I click, “Install Windows XP”, it goes to the installation screen (with the numbered steps on left column), and then an error message pops up:

“Windows Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

You will need to rerun setup in order to install Windows. Choosing dynamic update during setup will possibly remedy this error.”

So you’re thinking: “Why don’t you try disabling ‘dynamic update’, dumbass!” Well, on the numbered list (on the left-hand column), Step 2 is “Dynamic Update” whereas I can’t even get through Step 1. So, I don’t think that... Read more

Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears to me that you are trying to remove Ubuntu while actually working in Ubuntu itself. Have you tried booting directly from the Windows disc? Hello everyone!

I've made my Sony VAIO into a dual-boot machine (Win7 64-bit and Ubuntu Linux) and I'm having trouble getting into the BIOS.

When powering up, even though I repeatedly press and hold down the DEL key it always goes straight to the GRUB menu:

And then when I select to load Windows 7, I keep pressing DEL but it goes straight to Windows.

It doesn't seem to matter how fast I am on the keys - I can't get into the BIOS.

I have a should I be trying to enter the BIOS before getting to the GRUB menu, or after?

Also, (and this may be irrelevant) I've checked my registry to determine what kind of BIOS I have (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / HARDWARE / DESCRIPTION / System ), where I found that the SystemBiosVersion variable = Sony - 20110905 BIOS Date: 09/05/11 11:20:58 Ver: 04.06.03

(I would have thought the BIOS would be something like American Megatrends!)

Anyways... is there any way I can get into the BIOS from Windows, i.e. after Windows has loaded? Do I have to remove Linux from my computer? I hope not!

Thanks so much for your help and have a great day.

A:can't enter BIOS when booting (Win7 / Ubuntu Linux dual boot system)

Best to keep in mind that the BIOS is completely different from ANY operating system. There is no connection between the two things, other than the BIOS handing off control to an OS.

You press DEL (or whatever key enters the BIOS) before any operating system begins to start up.
You can start pressing the key repeatedly (once a second) just as soon as you hear the POST beep or see anything happen on the display screen.
Once you reach the Grub loader it is too late. Start over.

You can't get into the BIOS from an operating system. You can only shut down and/or restart.
Nothing in the operating system's registry has anything to do with your system's BIOS, other than communicating with it initially.

Basically, I followed this guide on uninstalling Linux 11.04 but here's a short version:
Deleted Linux Partitions in Windows 7
Popped in Windows 7 Upgrade Disk (Recovery Options)
Went to the Command Prompt and typed the following things in:bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot (DID NOT WORK)
It gave me an error stating "The volume does not contain a recognizable filesystem. etc.."

And now it always takes me to some MemoryTest program, something I noticed that was one of the options when I was using the Grub Boot Division (Purple) but I never paid any attention to it. Now that I deleted the Ubuntu partitions the grub no longer comes on and now I don't even see the error ever since I ran the "bootrec /fixmbr" command.

When I try and boot into window I get the error 0xc000000e saying that windows cannot boot etc.

Ive looked online to try and figure out how to solve this problem and they said to open up a windows disc and go to the repair section.

I have tried doing this and when I click on the repair section I get an error that pops up saying:

This version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of windows.

I didnt get a windows disc with my laptop but I did make a recovery on discs from how it came when I got it. On the back of my laptop it says windows 7 home prem OA. I downloaded 2 different isos so far one from a link that just said windows 7 64bit. And another windows 7 64bit home prem iso.

The computer is an asus g53s 64bit. And ive been trying to fix this for a solid 2 days. If anyone can help, id be greatly appreciated.

I'm having some issues booting my PC. The last time I was on it I put it to sleep (as I always do). I don't believe that I've changed anything lately as I've only really been using it to stream content from it to the TV.
The BSOD shows the following error:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal system error}
The verification of a KnownDLL failed. system process terminated unexpectedly with the status of 0xc0000221 (0x0113dda0 0x00000000)
I've tried to boot into safe mode to no avail.
I've attempted to use all in built system recovery to no avail.
I've also searched Google but can't really find anything relevant to fix the issue.
The boot drive is a 64GB SSD drive from Kingston.
I've ran FRST on it and got the log if that's any help?
I'd very much appreciate any help on this

A:Windows 7 won't boot: c000021a Fatal System Error.

Please...post your FRST log (along with short concise explanation of situation) at BC Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html .
Once that is done, come back here and post a link to your new topic...after which this topic will be closed.
Thanks .

Strange problem that seems to have a workaround. My compy stops with a windows logon 0x0000021a fatal sytem error 0x00000080 (0x00000000 0x00000000). So I restart. Works fine. This seems to happen in the morning, or when the comp has been shut down for a long period of time. Microsoft can't help as their kb shows me c000021a every time I search. That problem relates only to XP Pro. I run Home. I'm at a loss here. Ran SpyBot cleaned up some stuff, and here's my hjt if it can help.

sounds kind of ominous if your PC won't load what has been loaded reciently? I hope you have a backup on this machine?

My sister's Dell desktop got the New Win31 virus(?) recently and I told her to try follow a Malware/virus cleanup on another forum. She started to go through the steps, but after she did the Msconfig and rebooted, she couldn't log back in to her account. It went to a window that asked for a login name and password, which we don't have because we never put passwords for our separate accounts.

So now, we try to search on how to bypass that window and login somehow, and read on another site to try Safe Mode. Unfortunately, now we're getting a blue screen saying,

"STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error) The windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down."

I've tried the F8 at start up and going under Last known good configuration, but it doesn't help. So now we're stuck with the computer starting up and just going straight to the blue screen. Is there something that we can't do to fix it? We have a reinstallation CD for Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2, but I don't know what to do with it and I'd like to fix the computer without erasing all the other information if possible.

I'm at a lost and my sister doesn't know anything about computers, so any sort of help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

had one last week that was a little different and it just magically disappeared (I'm building a new computer as soon as this semester ends if this computer will last that long).

I have MOST everything backed up on an external hard drive, but when i had tried to copy the my documents folder, it kept giving me an error, and I don't remember if I copied any of it over or not. The programs are all backed up, but AFAIK any documents I had are still on there, and I'd REALLY REALLY like to make a clean sweep through the computer and get as much copied over as possible.

It's windows xp home with SP3. It started after running an AVG scan overnight and the computer went on standby during the scan. My mom tried to wake the computer up and it froze and when i rebooted it (hit the power button once and it gave me the option to shut down, restart or go to standby like it would if i had gone to the start menu and done it) it gave me a BSOD (process1_initialization_failed), and i tried again and it gave me a different BSOD (the one im posting about).

I have a recovery console.ISO on a CD that I found off of these forums and it works, but I DO NOT have the windows XP CD. It's a Dell dimension 4600 (from late 2003 hehe).

I'd rather not have to wipe the HD or buy a new one because I don't want to spend money on this computer...If I can fix it with recovery console or by getting a windows cd from someone (if i can find one) that would be ideal.

When I attempt to boot my laptop, which is running Windows 7 OS, it bluescreens and I get the following message: "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The verificaion of a KnownDLL failed. system processes terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000020 (0x00331290 0x00000000). The system has been shut down." Is there any way I can fix this without doing a factory reset and losing all of my files? I have tried doing a system restore but it tells me that I have no restore points and that since I am running it within a limited diagnostic capacity that it cannot be undone, which is fine as long as it is a restore. The problem is that it won't let me do that. I should also note that I have no external hard drive and for some reason booting the "Last Known Good Configuration" will not work, either. I should probably mention that I am unable to boot in Safe Mode.Details:Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOfflineProblem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385Problem Signature 03: unknownProblem Signature 04: 21200344Problem Signature 05: AutoFailoverProblem Signature 06: 8Problem Signature 07: BadDriverOS Version: 6.1.7600. A:Fatal System Error on Laptop Running Windows 7 STOP: c000021...

Use F8 at the very start of power up to access the advanced screen, choose "repair your computer" from the list, this will load windows recovery environment, if it tries to do an automatic repair, cancel it if you can and let RE load, then choose "Command prompt" from the list of tools. .     try running a system file checker as described in the link below, it may repair the problem file, once SFC is complete restart the pc normally. http://mikemstech.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-perform-offline-system-integrity.html
