Yoga 720 USB C port HDMI and USB port not working together

Q: Yoga 720 USB C port HDMI and USB port not working together

Hello, I am having a hard time to make drive hub HDMI and USB ports work well with neither of USB C ports with this Yoga 720-13IKB If i plug my drive hub with USB C power port (the one far away from the back, but close to audio plug), HDMI ports for monitor through the drive hub can work, but not USB ports for mouse. If i plug my drive hub with USB C regular port (the one close to the back), HDMI through the drive hub cannot work, but USB ports. The drive hub i am using is HD30F Power 9 in 1 gray. The laptop is also updated with latest drive. Kind of frustrated with this laptop. Can some one help me out? Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The monitor is never recognized. However, the mini-display port will work with a miniDP to DVI or miniDP to VGA adapter cable (I verfied this at a store where there were multiple cables and monitors to use).

I have a HDMI adapter that used to work with an adapter although did not use very often.  Then at some point I tried using it and it does not work.   I ordered another adapter in case the one I had was faulty, still it does not work.    Now I read about an update for a lot of the Thinkpads to address a defective USB-C port issue.   I am thinking the Yoga 910 may have a similar issue.  I have read about HDMI issues on the laptops but have not see anyone describe what I am seeing - following is my issue.  After connecting a monitor via the HDM adapter, and I have tried this with TVs as well as computer monitors, when I go to the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel, then go to Multiple Displays window, I can select Clone Display or Extended Desktop.  Under the 'Select One or More Active Displays' it actually shows two displays - builtin and the monitor I am hooked up to.  So it is seeing the monitor connected via the adapter.   But when I click on 'Detect' button, which shows two displays above it, a window pops up saying 'No other display has been detected.  If you do not see a display, verify all the connections and check that the display is powered on'. So although it seems that the computer, in some form or fashion, sees the HDMI monitor in some other sense it is not detecting it.  So I cannot display on the other monitor.  And the monitor connected to the computer indicates it does no... I have a customer who has the above model Lenovo laptop. She hooked up an an external display via HDMI using a HDMI-mini HDMI adapter connected to the mini-HDMI port of the laptop which was working fine for more than a few months. She was using the Best Buy Insignia brand. All of a sudden, the external display no longer detected the laptop and the laptop didn't detect the second display. I remoted in and checked everything out and it seemed OK as far as drivers and such so, for simplicity sake (and after having her verify the external display was working wtih other devices), I had her pick up an Insignia HDMI-miniHDMI cable and just bypass the adapter. She tried that, no luck. So I remoted in again and uninstalled the Intel and Nvidia drivers and reisntalled them using the drivers from the Lenovo website. There was no change. I've done some extensive research about this issue in the forums and there have been other models with similar issues and the fixes were... using a different cable, different adapter, or both. These were mainly solutions to solve the problem of secondary displays not being detected at first, not fixing the issue of it working just fine for a while until one day... nothing. Has anyone come across an issue similar to this? I'm trying to get more of a definate solution versus swapping more adapters and cables around. One last idea I have is to hook it up to my monitor via an HDMI to DVI adapter using her HDMI to mini HDMI cable but I have a feeling, th... Read more

I have owned my X1 yoga for less than 2 months and recently I tried to output my laptop through the hdmi port and it didn't work. I tested it with different cords and displays, updated my drivers, and even did a software reset and it still didn't work. For a 2k laptop that's supposed to be durable, this is unacceptable. I also baby my laptop so it couldn't have been damaged from my use. If I were to choose I want lenovo to send me a new X1, one that's fully functional. Would this be possible or am I just looking at an onsite fix?

I have had my X1 yoga for just over a month now and I didn't test the hdmi port until now. To my dismay it doesn't work. It doesn't recognise displays and I have tried different cords and different displays so its not an external problem. I have also updated my drivers and even did a system restore and the hdmi port still won't output. It's most likely broken. What's my best course of action? Could I get a new X1 as the one I received is clearly defective and it's only been a month of usage. Who's to say more things won't break in the next few years?

Has anyone used the HDMI port on the 15 inch model with integrated (Intel 620) graphics to drive a 4K monitor or UHDTV? I see a lot of posts about USB-C to HDMI or Displayport adapters but don't see why this is necessary on the 15 inch unit. Unless the HDMI port is an older revision that can not handle 4K.

I have had my desktop Dell, with Windows 8.1, well over 10 years, and now it has been hanging up after only a few minutes of booting up -- sometimes giving me a BSoD . I've spent many hours with different kinds of 'fixes' (which the computer couldn't eventually fix), 'refreshing' of the system', etc. I've given up on it . There are probably too many system errors to try and fix with outside-the-system apps, so I'm not going to even bother with it anymore .

I have looked through all the documentation from Lenovo and on these forums and have not been able to determine which version of the HDMI spec (1.4 or 2.0) the micro-HDMI port supports. Although this laptop has a 4K display, I wouldn't necessarily expect that the micro HDMI port to be 2.0 but it would make since and would be a smart thing to do.

A:How do I connect my Yoga 720-151 KB laptop to my tv-It does not have a HDMI port. Adaptor avail?

Hi @Blazinfire,

Welcome to Community Forums!

According to User Manual  ( page 11) and Platform Specifications, the Yoga 720-15IKB supports  USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 / Thunderbolt.
It supports external digital monitor via USB Type-C. Which has Max resolution: [email protected] (USB Type-C)
You can connect to your TV via USB Type-C using a  USB-C to HDMI Adapter.

You can refer to the Support Site for compatible USB-C to HDMI Adapter. Just type in the serial number then search. Go to Accessories > Select Categories > Cables and Adapters.

Hope this helps with your query.

Hi all,

I've just recently got myself a new laptop (specs at bottom of message) and took it around a friends house and plugged it into their HD TV via HDMI - all worked well, the laptop recognised the TV straight away, optimized the display and away we went.

A few days go by and I decided to upgrade my own TV from an SD to an HD TV (Bush BLED24FHDL8) yeah I know cheap as chips, but it's going alright so far ... well except this problem pmsl.

Within 5 mins of setting up the TV channels I decided to plug my HDMI cable into the laptop and then into HDMI 1 slot on the back of the TV, I changed the input of the TV to HDMI 1 and.... nothing.

Going into the display settings of my laptop didn't show a 2nd display, so I changed various settings trying to get it to recognise the tv, but nothing, still no signal showing on the TV, and nothing showing on the laptop.

So I changed over the cable to the HDMI 2 slot on the TV etc and still nothing on the laptop, I fiddled with the settings again and still couldn't get the laptop to recognise there was a 2nd display, nor get any signal on the TV.

As a last resort I unplugged the HDMI cable and tried the VGA cable I have - and this decided to work, although no sound as I didn't have those cables plugged in.

When I plugged the VGA cable in, the TV and laptop recognised each other straight away and I didn't have to do another thing.

But I've still got this HDMI problem --- I've even gone out this a... Read more

HI All

Computer - HP 8710w, Intel Centrino vPro, Nvidia Quadro

I connected my HDMI cable to TV Hdmi port and PC Hdmi port but no signal on TV at all. With Vista it was plug and play (just needed to adjust audio settings on PC).

I have tried downloading updated drivers but to no avail. While connected pressing the Fn key and F4 hey does nothing, the computer has no idea that something is in that port. I think the port is somehow inactive or physically damaged.

How may i check to see if the port is working and how do i check if its software related?

Many thanks

Are you running more then one monitor at a time? If you are then you need to right click on your desktop and select "Screen Resolution". Then find the TV on the display device drop-down menu. Then check the box "Make this my Main Display".

Let me know if that works, if not I can help troubleshoot the problem some more.

I have a Dell Inspiron 720 with an HDMI port in the back. I have been using it with my Samsung TV to watch movies on. Now it no longer works. I ordered a new cable but it keeps telling me to check power supply, cable connection, and the make sure it's on the right setting. I have 2 hdmi ports on the back of my TV but still come up with the same error condition when I switch them. It appears the port in the computer is not working anymore. I have tried everything but nothing works. I am running an ATI 4200 which is on the motherboard. Can this be fixed or would I have to buy a new graphics card to get it working again. I did swap the cables but still get the same results. Does anyone have any ideas because I have run out of them???

A:HDMI Port not working anymore

The only way to fix it is to buy a new motherboard, do yourself a favor and buy a new video card instead, Dells are not worth fixing. But if it`s under warranty well then that is a different story.

If that`s a laptop then your ONLY option is to replace the motherboard, very simple to do.

EVGA - Products - Graphics

MSI USA - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

What keeps telling you to check the power supply ???

After I did this and plugged it back in there was no more picture on the TV. It had been working fine. The cord shows up as being listed on the TV as HDMI 2 but when I look for it on the PC I see nothing. I used to see LG TV. Not it is no longer listed.

I have tried rebooting, turning PC off, updating drivers, reinstalling the drivers and taking the card out and and putting it back in. Nothing works. What do I do?

Will not display on any monitor. Tried multiple different monitors. Updated all the drivers, from Intel, NVIDIA, and HP. Nothing works. Funny thing is that NVIDIA recognizes the monitor, name, make, and resolution. But no where can I find NIVIDIA recognizing the built in display on this computer. Intel recognizes the built in monitor, but doesnt see the external monitor. In the NIVIDIA contorl panel under system topology it details the HDMI port, its connected. So I got my IT people involved. They couldnt figure it out either. They tried everything. They believe that since NVIDIA sees the external monitor, but "Multiple Display Cloning" is "Disabled" (Unable to enable it) that NVIDIA doesnt recognize the built in display, it thinks the built in display is the monitor. When the external monitor HDMI is unplugged, the NVIDIA control panel clears out as if no monitor exists at all. This is a brand new HP zBook that I have had for a couple months. Been fighting this issue ever since. Desperate to get my monitor working I recently went and purchased a VGA to DVI converter and DVI to HDMI converter. That doesnt work either. I feel defeated, crushed by an HDMI port.
