Sony Vaio Laptop + Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard = Wifi problem on laptop

Q: Sony Vaio Laptop + Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard = Wifi problem on laptop

Hi,
I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio Laptop with wifi support that is inbuilt or onboard. I already have a Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard at my home with ram 2 gb, 9800 gtx card and a quad core processor. Now, I connect this pc with a broadband connection at home running 1mbps speed. This motherboard also has a wifi onboard connection. What I am trying to do is setup this wifi connection so that my laptop can also connect to the internet wirelessly. For this I have installed the wifi driver of Asus (something called Asus WiFi-AP @n software) and configured it with giving it a proper connection name and a password. I have successfully done all the wifi network setup wizard on the pc and it is working well. Now the problem is that, my laptop is able to find this wifi connection but after sometime it gives an error saying to troubleshoot network connection and the wifi network disappears from the laptop and again i have to search for this wifi network and the cycle continues. Similarly, when I am trying to connect my Nokia e90 mobile phone with the pc via wifi, my phone is able to pickup the wifi connection and sometimes it is able to connect to the internet and I am also able to browse different websites but sometimes it gives me a gateway time out error. So, can anyone tell me how can i connect my sony vaio laptop to the internet wirelessly by using the Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP @n connection? Also if possible, then please let me know how to connect my phone as well, which is a secondary question. Thank you in advance.
Note that - The operating system that I am using on my pc with Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard is having Windows XP installed on it and on the sony vaio laptop windows 7 is installed.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A:can i sli two nvidia gtx 295 on a ASUS P5E3 Deluxe Wi-Fi motherboard.

Your motherboard would work fine for sli, I think your motherboard is chip X38 so it is SLI PCI-E 2.0 x16 x2, So i don't think thats the problem, i do believe your psu is not powerful enough for two gtx295's. I would suggest a 800-1000 watt psu, but you will easilly get away with a 800watt psu.

Hope I helped in some small way

Hello. I recently bought Asus P5E3-Deluxe-WiFi-AP and I got an annoying sound problem. Everything I hear on the computer (songs, ingame sounds, voices on teamspeak...) is reproduced on the microphone. It's irritating, especially when I use some voice program like teamspeak or skype, because the other person speaks and hears the "echo" of his own voice, or any other sound I am listening to in my computer.
Before someone asks, I use a headset, so the problem is the sound configuration.
Every buddy that tried to help me with this problem have sound cards whose drivers allow the user to set the "line volume" (I guess it's how it is said in english, since I've only read this in portuguese "volume de linha"). Setting this "line volume" to no sound solves the problem for them, but my sound card's driver doesn't allow it. You can see bellow a screenshot of my volume control panel (unfortunatelly in portuguese).

Does anyone have any clues?
I don't know if it helps, or even if there is any difference, but I use the frontal jacks from my cabinet (Maxxtro's Jupiter), not the jacks on the sound card itself (that are located on the cabinet's back).

Thanks a lot and sorry for the bad english.

A:HELP! Asus P5E3-Deluxe-WiFi AP. Sound bugged!

Well, in fact i just realized that the problem happens even if I don't use any jack. Just joining teamspeak now and the sound message "member joined" was "said" by my computer to the other members, without any microphones or speakers connected...

I have been having a problem for a few weeks now and nothing I've done or come across seems to solve the issue!
Basically when I try and connect to my wifi (netgear router) I get a very strong signal but local only access & an unidentified network. I have my desktop & 2 more laptops running off this router so it can't be that.

After failing to connect to wifi I tried to use an ethernet connection to try and update my drivers in hope that would fix the wifi problem. After plugging the ethernet in I was in exactly the same position, I kept getting 'Identifying' appear in network connections which then turned to unidentified and wouldn't allow me to connect to the internet either!

The laptop is about 3-4 years old I think so I did update the drivers but that didn't do anything either, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Forgot to mention my os is vista

Two nights ago, after a computer crash and hard reboot, something odd happened to my computer. The motherboard , an Asus P5E-3 Deluxe Wifi, has a built in linux-based mini os on which you can run a firefox clone and skype. This appears at boot. It didn't.

I ignored that and went in to the OS, Vista 32-bit. My wireless no longer worked. I used Asus' driver, re-installed it even, but Vista will still not see a wireless device.

Nothing I do will change it. No one else seems to have run into this problem.

I need some help here.

Sorry, wasn't sure exactly what section this problem belonged in, so i'm posting here.

I'm using my sister's Sony Vaio laptop that i decided to downgrade from vista home premium to windows XP. The first thing i should have done should've been to get all the hardware information while on vista.... but i completely forgot. I backed up my general files but not the hardware information.

Now I'm stuck with a brand new installation of windows XP and no internet because XP isn't recognizing my NIC.

I've been googling around for some hours now with nothing.

I've gone to all the main "official" Vaio Sony sites. They all ask for model or product, but for some reason my model doesn't come up anywhere i check. There is also another option to type down your serial and product key which is a 15 digit number. Whereas the first 7 digits are the serial and the 8 other digits the product key. Still it doesn't seem to be a model of any sort... No site recognizes this Vaio model for some odd reason.

Model : PCG-5K1L.

I installed service pack 3, i thought it would at least be able to detect a network card, but to no avail it couldn't.

Everest home edition has no more luck detecting.

In hardware manager the only thing detected was the 1394 firewire port.

This laptop, from what my sister said, came with no manual or other useful information; meaning none.

I'm really stumped on what else I could do. I was thinking i... Read more

Would this be the battery or something more serious?

When I press the power button, the screen immediately goes gray before the Sony opening even pops up. I hear the normal bootup sounds and see the front light flickering, and even hear the fan going, but I don't see anything on the screen. I am trying to boot up the laptop but all I get is a blank screen that slowly changes colors from black to blue and back and forth extremely slowly.

I've tried F8 while the computer is starting and can't get into Safe Mode. I've removed the battery and had the computer solely on AC power and that didn't work. I've tried every possible key combination into a blank screen and screen and nothing works.

Please help! Thank you

It sounds as it the backlight or the power supply to the screen has failed. You need a specialist shop to fix it. If you are in the UK, sent me a PM and I will give you the name of a repair shop near Bedford where they can be trusted to fix it.

Hello everyone,

I just bought some Hardware to build a new computer from Scratch.

I bought:

1. Asus P5E3 Pro Motherboard (DDR3 RAM DIMMS)
2. PSU Coolmax CUL-750B 750W
3. 2x2GB OCZ OCZ3G10664GK R (DDR3 RAM)
4. VGA Card - ASUS ENGTS250/DI/512MD3
5. Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66Ghz 1333

I installed Windows 7 x64bit OEM

I am having problems with BSOD (different ones not the same one every time)

I would like to know if its a compatibility Problem with My RAM and Motherboard or could it be something else. I am very bad with Hardware and I just bought parts that I knew could fit in theory.

BIOS is set to default because I don't know how to configure it (Probably thinking why did I buy parts instead of a built computer)

Could you please help?

A:Compatible RAM for Asus P5E3 Pro Motherboard (BSOD)

Your RAM isn't on Asus' memory QVL (Qualified Vendors List)-but that isn't to say that it's not supported.
Having your power supply checked might be an option if your graphics card seems to run slow or you are getting fluctuating performance.
Because OCZ memory modules lack what are called embedded XMP profiles, your motherboard will have difficulty assigning a setting for them so you will need to do it manually.
Download Memtest86+ from here http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
***under the Memtest86+ v4.00, select "Download -Pre-compiled bootable iso ", save and unzip if downloading the zip file then burn a BOOTABLE CD using ImgBurn or your usual burning software (Nero etc.).- this program runs at BIOS level
Download MemSet here http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/MemSet.shtml
You can also download CPU-Z -it gives a much simplified version of the RAM timings but you can also access chipset and CPU info. download here http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

First order of business would be ascertain whether the RAM modules are not defective.
I presume the RAM in question is OCZ's Gold XTC modules - if they are then you can try to manually select the timings- they should be on a sticker on the side of the RAM, which should be 7-7-7-21 ( CAS (or CL)-tRCD-tRP-tRAS) at 1.5 to 1.6 volts.
IF THIS IS NOT YOUR RAM THEN GO NO FURTHER, If it is then you need to set it in order to test it for stability.
Boot into your BIOS. Select the seco... Read more

Are you extending the desktop onto the TV or cloning the desktop? If you are cloning the desktop, both screens use the same resolution. If you are extending the desktop, then ensure the display properties are set to the TV's native resolution.

The display settings (varies by chipset brand/drivers) should have options for "TV" use and allow you to manually adjust the screen size. There may also be options for "overscan".

Greetings,

Due to problems with my Sony VAIO laptop's processing, I have recently decided to re-install Windows XP, though this is the "Home Edition" (due to being unable to retrieve the other version of XP that I used for this laptop). Following the installation, I have attempted to also install some VAIO drivers, including one that concerns the wireless connection. However, once successful and re-booted the laptop, during the procedure, I right-clicked on the Wireless Network Connection (after clicking on "View network connections), called "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection", then, in the drop-down menu, I clicked on "View Available Wireless Networks". Once there, I can see the available networks, including the name of the router that we use. Below the selection box of available networks, a message says "This wireless network requires the use of a network key (WEP). To access this network, type the key, then click Connect. After I entered my security key, I encountered this error message repeatedly:

"The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters."

Consequently, I am unable to access the Internet because of this message!

RELEVANCY SCORE 83.6

I have an Asus K8V SE Deluxe motherboard with AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU and 1.5 GB RAM for almost 3 years.

In general, the machine works fine, but when I insert an external USB Hard Drive or an USB Flash drive, and reboot the computer, the ROM BIOS attempts to boot from the newly inserted drive instead of from drive C: .
I then have to change the BIOS settings again to instruct it to boot from C:. As long as the external drive is inserted at the boot time, it boots OK, but if I remove it, sure enough, the same booting issue reappears.

Asus tech support is aware of that ?issue? with that particular board, but the head honcho claims that it is by design, and it is same for all the 754 and 939 boards. He says that the board was designed to allow automatic booting when inserting an external drive. He also claims that only the socket AM2 boards let you control it.

My questions are:

* Is anyone aware of this problem?
* Is it true that those Asus boards were purposely designed that way?
* Am I getting a snow job from the head honcho ( the head of the call center/lead technician)?

Thanks for any input on that matter.

Asus K8V SE Deluxe Motherboard with bios version 1005.006

Hello, I have 2 IDE hard drives connected on the standard IDE sockets and want to connect a 3rd IDE disk. Is it possible to connect 1 disk to the PRI_RAID socket? I don't want a raid setup.

I plugged the disk into the PRI_RAID socket with the blue end of the cable and the black end into the hard drive. I made it master.

I enabled the promise raid controller in the bios and selected 'onboard ide operate mode'. The other option was 'RAID'.

Upon reboot the boot up time takes a lot longer than usual and sits at the post screen for a long time before it tells me that the disk is connected to the promise raid controller. Then the screen goes blank with a white flashing line at the top left and then windows starts to boot...which also takes longer. What's that all about?

Windows cannot see the hard drive when it is connected via the PRI_RAID socket but can when connected via the standard IDE socket.

In device manager under other devices are 2 raid controllers with an ! next to them. Windows asks to install the new hardware so I select the promise drivers and windows happily installs ONE of them but that one then moves to 'SCSI and RAID controllers' as 'WinXP Promise FastTrack 378 (tm) controller' but it has an ! mark next to it.

The remaining controller under other devices will not install. When I select the driver it tells me 'The specified location does not conta... Read more

Hi there,

I am using a Sony PD 170 DV camcorder hooked up via 4 pin firewire to a Sony Vaio laptop. I am also using Avid Composer video editing software. The problem is that I can see the video from Avid in the viewfinder but it freezes in the viewfinder even though it is playing on the computer. This is preventing me from outputting a project. Do I need a driver for this camera?

Thanks,
Paul

Okay, so I have here before me a Sony Vaio NR series laptop.
It has a large problem: The WiFi Doesn't work properly.

For some odd reason, when you start it up in safe mode, the WiFi works perfectly.
When you start it up normally, you see the WiFi light comes on and it connects to one of the preferred networks like it's supposed to, until about a minute later, it turns off the WiFi light and disconnects from the network, and will not find any networks. When you click "Diagnose why windows cannot find any wireless networks" it says "The Wireless Capability is turned off" or something like that and says I should turn on the wireless switch. However, the wireless switch, is already on.
I can flip it as much as I want, it does nothing. The light will not turn on again until I restart it, only to have it do the same thing over again.

I know it's not a hardware problem, cause it works in safe mode just fine. So why doesn't it work in windows when it's started normally?
Help would be much appreciated, I'm pretty close to just reloading the operating system.

EDIT: I have uninstalled and reloaded the updated driver software for the wireless LAN card... no luck.

You also need to indicate more about your system specs to get any idea of the problem, like: What operating system and its release level? What is the make/model of the wifi card?

I'm not sure whether the processor fan on my Sony Vaio laptop is switching on or not, the case gets very hot.

Is there some way to force it to switch on? Perhaps a setting to tell the PC to turn it on at a lower temperature?

A:Sony Vaio Laptop Fan

Usually its temperature controlled, but most laptops run the fan briefly at the beginning of the boot process. If that is not happening, perhaps it needs replacement.

There is no setting that I am aware of to force it.

Ive just bought a Sony Viao laptop of ebay, and the display is messed up. The picture is small in the middle of the screen even when the computer is booting up, the actual picture is aboul half the size of the screen. ow do i get the screen to fit the entire screen - lol that makes sense.

Sounds like the power invertor for the display is dying..(common problem in notebooks) If so, your need a replacement screen invertor for that model notebook, and someone capable of replacing it.. They can commonly be found on ebay..

Hi all. I've got this Sony Vaio laptop that I'm trying to get it to work. A friend of mine said he used it for parts, so it is missing a few hardware pieces. However, I am having problems getting it to run.

It is missing a hard drive, and the RAM pieces.

When I plug it in, the power icon works, shows a green light.

The product name is VPCF136FM, the model is PCG-81115L.

When I turn the machine on, screen doesn't turn on. It just stays black, I can hear the GPU fan turn on (It takes about 15 seconds for the GPU fan to even turn on), but no matter how long I leave the laptop on, the screen just stays black, it does nothing. I was thinking maybe the GPU was taken out, but I later learned the graphics card is basically embedded into the motherboard, so you can't remove it.

Anyone know why the screen isn't working? Or should I just throw it in the trash?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Without RAM it will never run. You MUST have at least one RAM module.

Hi everyone,
Need a little help please from you experts out there!!!! my partners SONY vaio laptop has died I think, it will not boot up just a black screen, when you press the on button the "light" lights up as if its going to boot but then the fan kicks in and just shuts off, I have tried doing F8 at the start but still nothing.
Has it just passed over to the big laptop world or can it be repaired without me going to a repair shop and getting ripped off because they could fob me off with anything.
Hope someone can help me please
Thanks in advance

What is the model of this Vaio, and roughly how old is it ?

Do you get to see the BIOS screen when it starts - that's the one that says Sony Vaio or somesuch all over it - or do you not get any screen at all ?  If you do get the BIOS screen have a look and see what key it says for 'Setup'. This is usually either 'F2' or 'Delete' but it does vary. Then re-boot and press that key. If you saw the BIOS screen, this should now take you into the BIOS itself. The trackpad doesn't work in here, you need to use the arrow keys to move around. Move along the top line to 'Exit' and press 'Enter'. this will bring up a screen which among other options says 'Restore defaults and exit'. Select this one - with the arrow keys - then press 'Enter' again. This guarrantees that at least you have the system defaults set. The system will now try to re-boot. If it does, great. If not . . .

If this laptop is over three years old the battery may have died and I have known cases where a dead battery stopped a laptop starting even though plugged into the mains. Try taking the battery out and starting it just with the mains charger plugged in.

Post back and let us know how you get on with this. It may be that this Vaio is heading for its final reward but there is no doubt data on the hard drive that you may well want to recover which is not an overly difficult task.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop.
When I turn it on, the fan spins but shuts down after a few seconds, then never starts up again. It only spins at startup.
Anyone got any tips?

A:Sony Vaio Laptop Fan

Normal.

The fan on a laptop will run for a few seconds until the temperature monitoring software loads, then it only runs when it gets hot enough.

Unless the laptop is overheating, you don't have a problem?

does anyone have any idea where I can get a replacement power jack for a sony vaio laptop that is 5 years old or so. I mainly use it to browse the web, and check email, (buying a new one seems impractical) and currently the power cord won't register as connected. I checked the solder points on the power jack and everything looks good. No cracks or anything. If you hold the tip of the power cord into the jack extremely tight, it will atleast flash the lights like it detects the connection. Anyone have any other thoughts?

Thanks

My Sony VAIO laptop will only run in Safe Mode and BIOS. I have installed every possible OS on the planet including it's own restore disks. I have done every thing I can think of shy of new RAM and CPU and HD to figure out why it does this. Please Help !!

A:Sony Vaio Laptop

Hi there!

If it runs in Safe Mode, then it's most likely caused by a software or driver issue.

In safe mode
run MSCONFIG
Check "Selective Startup"
UN-CHECK "process config.sys file" (if there)
UN-CHECK "process autoexec.bat file" (if there)
UN-CHECK "Load Startup Group Items"

click apply, then OK or Close
reboot and see!

If there's a specific error message, please post it here!

Good Luck!

Im not really even sure if im in the right forum for this type question. but this afternoon i was using my Sony Vaio laptop for about 30 mins or and i left it on for about 10 or 15 more mins and when i came back it was off. First thing i thought was that the battery had died, but that idea was cancelled when i saw that the wall adaptor was plugged in also. The light on the wall adaptor comes on and is green. But the computer will not show any signs of life what so ever other than the green light on the wall adaptor. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG?!?!?!

my first reaction to this is that it hibernated. Can you turn your computer on? You may want to post more specifics about your computer and the problem, such as OS, what you were doing before you left, what applications were open when you left, etc, etc.

Even when i connect the headphones, the laptop speakers are on. my headphone works good. I checked with different headphones.
There is something wrong with the laptop. When i called sony guys, they made me reinstall my sound driver. But it didnt work. Now they want me to send my laptop to them for service which is really impossible for me as they take atleast 10 days.
10 days without a computer, is going to be a huge loss for me.

There is a small switch inside the headphone jack that cuts off the speekers when headphones are connected. This switch is likely broken and the only way to fix it so you could get sound through headphones and not speekers would be to send it in to have the jack repaired. You could disable integrated audio and get a usb or PCMCIA sound card to use for headphones but then your internal speakers wouldn't work at all, even when headphones were disconnected.

You don't mention where you are located. Here are some possible sources for the Sony part and claimed equivalents in the USA:

Edit: Ignore this post, please see my 3rd post

Hi,
I have an Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi-AP motherboard with JMicron JMB363 PATA and SATA controller, which provides a single IDE port for plugging in my CD/DVD drives. I currently have two DVD drives (one burner, one reader) attached to this IDE port.

For a while now (a good few months) I have been having problems with the drives. Basically most of the time, hitting the eject button either does nothing for a few seconds, flashes the green light and then gives up, or it tries to eject (you hear the tray start to move) and then it gives up before ejecting.

On the rare occasions that it does eject, trying to read a disc fails 99% of the time with "I/O device error". When I try to burn a CD with Nero, Nero cant find the drive, even though windows can see it perfectly (despite the fact that it doesn't really work). However, if I restart the computer and then put a disc into the drive during boot, and then load up Nero, I can burn that disc successfully, but as soon as it is ejected, no more discs will work (weird right)?

So far I have checked and double checked all of the cables are in tight, replaced the IDE cable, disconnected one of the drives, and even bought a brand new power supply because I thought it was a power issue (although I needed a new one anyway), but so far nothing has fixed it.

I don't think the drives themselves are faulty, because they both went wrong at the same time, and they do actually seem... Read more
