On my all-in-one pc, I can be trying to open an app or surf the internet and all of a sudden its like someone touched the screen somewhere else and my cursor moves to that spot. If I wait, the screen will touch in different locations around the screen eventually locking in at the top left corner. If I try to move the cursor away, it moves a bit and then snaps back to the top left corner.help please, my pc is effectively useless. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I keep having a problem with my PC that the cursor will randomly start jumping all over the screen and clicking?
I have done a boot scan with Avast and found nothing. I have also tried 3 different mouses and they also have the same issue.
I have uninstalled the drivers in device manager also and rebooted.
Point to note that this will only happen once every few days, and only lasts for about half an hour.
What could be the problem?
Thanks in advance!

A:Solved: Cursor jumps all over the screen randomly.

So the mouse will start clicking on stuff and going through your computer as if someone else is doing it? Or is it just random going all over the screen?

The mouse cursor jumps around the screen randomly on my Z500 laptop which I just over a year old.  I checked with the retailers as to their advice, and they said: "To rule out that the problem is software rather than hardware related it is advisable to perform a system recovery on your machine. To do this you will need to launch the Disk2Disk recovery feature (which should already be installed on your machine). This will return your system to factory settings and will delete all existing data stored on the hard disk drive." This appears a bit radical a solution. Does anyone please have an alternative?

A:Mouse cursor jumps around the screen randomly on my Z500

I have the same issue on my Yoga all of the time. The mouse randomly moves around clicking & opening icons in my taskbar. It does it over and over no matter how many times I close the opened icons. The only way I know to fix it is to restart my computer. If I am in the middle of something time sensitive and do not have time to restart, it is impossible to get anything done. I wish I knew what causes it or another possible fix.

I have Sony TZ 150 (Model PCG 41L) with win xp, service pack 3 and having problems with the touch pad - it seems to just stop responding and mostly, I have to re-boot the system

I checked with SOny and the driver seems to be up tp date (Device Driver says the Alps pointing Device is working) but I think this is either a hardware issue or a Windows issue.

In what may be a related issue, my cursor keeps jumping around the screen when typing - I have no idea why.

A:touch pad does not work with XP/cursor jumps around

try to install 'touchfreeze' software.

it should resolve the issue. this software will disable the touchpad when u type something on the keyboard.

Good Evening,

Dell Inspiron 1525 was freezing up as I type job apps (I was laid off so I need this fixed quickly) so a repair service we use (1 person) looked and upgraded me to Windows 7 from Vista. I have two issues now.
It no longer locks up but the cursor jumps all over the page causing me to make mistakes typing and garbling sentences. It is not the touch pad. I have even covered it with cardboard and it still does it. The repair tech doesn't seem interested in finding the cause so I am stuck.
Spell check is now saying portions of words are wrong such as the "ood" in Good Evening in this post. It is doing this for both times I have written the word.
I have researched this and find similar but not close enough possible solutions.

Here is what I have found and tried.
I have lowered the cursor speed to the third line. It seemed to help somewhat but now it is back to the same problem.
I have scanned with Malwarebytes and my AVG antivirus. Both are up to date and nothing has been found.
I performed a disk cleanup and defrag, it did not help.
I am not a computer expert so this is the extent of my attempts.

This happened once a year ago with Vista and the service tech found it to be a driver issue on a forum and fixed it. He does not remember doing this and I believe he thinks I am insane.

Can someone please help me with this? I look forward to hearing from everyone.

Thank you.

A:Cursor jumps all over after upgrade, NOT the touch pad

See if you can update the mouse drive perhaps?

Click on Start, type devmgmt.msc then click on devmgmt.msc at the top of the window.
Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
Double click on the mouse to open the Properties dialog.
Click the Driver tab then click on Update Driver.

See what happens. If it doesn't help, please post a screen shot of the the Device Manager with Mice and other pointing devices expanded.

Once you have the image saved, click on the Paperclip Icon next to the Smiley Icon. In the Manage Attachments window, click Browse and navigate to where you saved the image and select it.

Close the Manage Attachments window.
Click on the Paperclip Icon again and select the image you uploaded. It will be placed in your post.

When I am typing in Win8 applications my cursor jumps without warning to another place on the page and I end up having to erase more than I type. I replaced Vista with Windows 7 using a clean install. My wife's laptop came with Windows 7 preinstalled. On both of our machines, the cursor occasionally jumps to a different location while typing. (Example: in an email reply, it will jump from the reply I'm typing down to the previous message.) We've noticed it in Word and Firefox email because we use these the most, but it may happen elsewhere.

Does anyone know why this happens, and more important, how to fix it? I use Microsoft Security Essential as AV and regularly do scans with Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, Ad-aware. Would a Hijack This log show anything?

Thanks, Larry

My cursor jumps randomly while typing, causing lots of need to re-type. My keyboard has that annoying touchthing between g h and b and I wonder if I'm not inadvertently hitting that. I'd really like a fix to this so that this problem disappears, and I'd like the solution not to be an external mouse. Other posted solutions I've seen involve setting selections that are not offered on my control panel.

A:Wireless mouse cursor randomly jumps around.

Hi TheUnknownM

If your PC is limited to USB1 or USB 2, a USB3 hub will be limited by the USB port it is connected too.
USB3 in a USB2 port will be at USB2 speed. Same with a USB2 hub in a USB1 port.

The the mouse USB device must not be in a hub. Even a mains powered hub. I tried it myself.
Self powered hubs can be dodgy ... self powered USB discs through a self-powered hub ... might not be recognised by WinExplorer. (It happened to me)

I don't know if a mains powered hub will suck enough juice through a USB1 port to be effective. I doubt it.

Any mouse does not like very shiny surfaces or uneven surfaces (my desk has knotty pine and the mouse went weird until I used a mouse mat)

Hope this helps

I have a Satellite Pro S500. There is a problem with the keyboard. When I type (no matter whether I am using Word, a web browser or any other application, though the problem seems to have been especially serious when typing this particular post) the cursor sometimes (often) jumps randomly: it may go back a few words or it may highlight a random section of text (it also makes no difference whether I am using an external mouse or not or how heavy/light the typing style is).

It has been suggested that it may have something to do with the sensitivity of the touch pad; however, reducing its sensitivity has had no effect whatsoever. This is a very unnerving problem and would be grateful for any advice.

Thank you.

Hi ap4h,

I think you are touching the touchpad during typing so you should disable the tapping function of touchpad. This can be done in touchpad driver options.

I know this may sound strange and simple but I spent a couple hours troubleshooting a clients laptop with the same issue. Turned out they were resting/tapping the touch pad with their thumb/palm when they were typing. If yours is a laptop, try turning off the touch pad while typing or changing the sensitivity.

hello all

whenever I'm typing a text on this laptop (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1818) the cursor () changes it's position randomly i.e. to: .

It is very frustrating as I need to put the cursor back in it's original place again, due to the fact that it jumps to previously typed text. Sometimes it goes back a few words, sometimes it jumps up a few lines. Whenever it jumps back, it jumps in between words or randomly in words like you can see on the second image.

It happens alot (the more I type, the faster it occurs again). I am 100% sure that it's not caused by me touching the touchpad while typing, as I've been looking for 10 minutes now while typing and I can't spot myself touching the pad with my hand, finger or anything else. I tried covering the touchpad with random objects such as a sheet of paper or a creditcard but the problem still occurs.

It happens in any program (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, Notepad,...), even when I'm watching a YouTube-video browsing the comments it's scrolling the page up (never scrolls down).

Is this a well known problem or is it only me? thanks in advance.

As stated above in the questionnaire, my system was sluggish and I ran my PCMatic scan which would stop running about 40% through the scan. I ran Malwarebytes (free) with no issues found. Removed PCMatic and installed AVG (free) which found some issues and cleaned them up but performace wasn't improved much. My keyboard then began to act quirky by characters not appearing or the cursor jumping around or nothing will happen but the "system busy wheel" pops up for a few seconds before characters appear on the screen.

I came back to you guys because TwinHeadedEagle was so effective at helping me with my desktop 18 mos ago that I was hoping for help.

Thanks, regards and please advise if I can once again get some assistance,

A:Strange behavior like typing & no characters appear, cursor jumps randomly

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.

It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

A:Cursor randomly freezes and jumps back to life on Tecra 8200 with Win XP

It could be caused by anything.

However I had this problem on my previous laptop, it was the wireless card causing it.

Try disabling it in Device Manager and see how that goes.

I noticed something similar happening in my previous laptop using Vista, but in Windows 7 it's almost unusable.

As I'm typing the cursor will change positions either on the application (to another area of same application), or will jump to another document.

At times I'll start to highlight something in Word to delete it, and as I hit "delete" the cursor switches to another part of the document, highlighting another paragraph and deleting it instead of what I was trying to delete.

At other times I see the cursor leave the document, go to one of the icons of another application at the bottom of the screen. Just as I hit "return" the cursor is now in another document and that document comes up on the screen instead of the one I was using.

At first I was losing whole documents. But then I got smart enough to realize that they had been closed, or stuck somewhere, and I eventually could find them instead of losing all of the work I had done.

I've been composing emails and suddenly the email disappears. It was sent before I finished composing it.

This happens about one every minute or so, and sometimes even more often.

I can see the hourglass pop up on the screne as I move the mouse. When it pops up either the screen zoom changes, screen size changes, or jumps off to one of the other icons as I mentioned above.

It looks to me as if the operating system is doing something else at those times, and if I'm going very fast (I type at about 100 wpm ... Read more

A:Cursor Jumps all over screen

Hi Alan and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

This could be down to the sensitivity of your mousepad. As well as operating on a touch principal, some can operate capacitively if the sensitivity is high enough. To check this, try switching the mousepad off altogether and plug in an external mouse. It's very rare that I use a laptop, but on the ocassions that I have I found that the cursor moved without my intention simply because my wrist must have been moving over the mousepad.

I have a HP Pavilion All-in-One - 24-b007la (Touch) and have the same problem. The cursor jumps to the top right corner closing my programs windows that just happen to be in that spot. I will run the long test later as it takes 2 hours. Any idea to fix this problem?

We are having an issue with HP L2206tm monitors that we have set up in our office.  Randomly but quite frequently the cursor will jump to the top right corner of the screen as if someone is touching that spot on the monitor. You cannot use the mouse or touch the screen to move it as it just jumps right back to that spot. This has also happened randomly in the OS and being that the X icon is in that area, has caused programs like outlook and internet explorer to just close by themselves when in full screen mode. The only fix we have come across is to power cycle the monitor which sometimes does not work either; at that point a factory reset on the monitor usually fixes it. Sometimes numerous restarts are required to get the screen temporarily working again. We also notice that when systems come out of sleep or hibernation mode that the screen will constantly flicker or power off until the display cable is reseated and monitor power cycled. The issues have obviously caused frustration with users.  The monitors are being used in combination will HP ZR2240 and HP Z22i, but we have the same issues on 1 2206tm and a dell monitor as well. A final request by a few users was if they could make the HP 2206tm their secondary monitor.  It seems that this monitor will only function correctly when it is set as the primary; otherwise when you touch the screen it will highlight/touch the same spot on the primary screen. Any one have any work around for this... Read more

Did you ever find a solution for you corner clicking issue?I?m having the same issue with the mouse pointer jumping to the top right corner of the screen every time you doc the laptop and the monitor comes on.  I finally had to unplug the usb cable, disabling the touchscreen and all usb ports on the monitor.  If there are any HP reps monitoring this Blog, please give us some advice on what to do with this problem.  For me, I basically ended up with a non-touch monitor because of this issue.  I have the monitor connected to an UltraSlim docking station, using a HP EliteBook Revolve 810.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Support Team, I am happy with my Lenovo X1 Carbon, but I have one issue that appears randomly (though rarely): while most of the time, the touch activity is very precise and smooth, the cursor sometimes jumps around wildly to random places that I did not even touch remotely. For an example, I am touching in a line from the center top to the center bottom. Instead, multiple clicks per second happen in random positions all over the screen (performing all kind of actions I never intended). I have this once every few weeks and it also happened when I opened the laptop for the first time. In general, I believe it only happens right after opening the laptop. Typically, closing the laptop and re-opening it again fixes it, but I would like to have a long-term solution. Is this a software or hardware issue? What do you recommend I do (since it's the year of "do")? Greetings from GermanyMoritz

Likewise. This happens to me often and is making me crazy.  Anyone out there who can help? Also, I type fast and sometimes do not stike a key hard enough for it to register This is my third or fourth Thinkpad and this new feel is annoying. Also, Lenovo has changed its keyboard layout for some gawd-awful reason and the right side of the keyboard is different.  Both these (and the common complaint we both have) are very annoying for an old time user .

Hi, I've only recently begun having problems a few days ago with my cursor/mouse where the cursor will sometimes lose focus of the currently active window or the explorer bar (and I have to ctrl+alt+del to gain the focus back because clicking doesn't work). The same thing happens with flash based objects like WheatherSpark or the youtube player, and I have to switch programs and back to firefox to be able to manipulate the youtube player or in VLC where I can't manipulate the player at all and the only way for me to change the sound is to use the scroll wheel (and even then the sound gets randomly changed as if the scroll wheel is being used. I can't change the timeline of the file at all and I cant click on the buttons on the interface, although the file menu works).

I originally thought it was my mouse acting up so I re-installed all the drivers and tried updating to no effect and the same behaviour happens when I turn my mouse off and unplug the bluetooth reciever.

Im using a wireless optical mouse (ROCCAT Pyra) on Win7 Pro x64

ps: I already tried searching but noone seems to have a similar problem

I've only confirmed this on Lord of the Rings Online and Final Fantasy XIV beta client so far, but the mouse cursor has a tendency to jump to one of the four corners of the screen and keep going in that direction (it remains visible at the corner of screen) for about a second or two before I can regain control of it. When this happens while I'm rotating the view during play, it causes the camera to spin around really fast and is extremely disorienting (and also makes my character move in an entirely different direction if I'm moving it at the same time). If you need the dxdiag to diagnose the problem, I'll be able to put it up once I get home in about 3 hours.

Thanks in advance.

Please advise how to turn my cursor in file manager back to normal.
I think I accidentally pressed something wrong on my keyboard, so when I went back doing my file manager, I found that many files I clicked on the right side can not be shown properly (there's no background text color nor checklist sign). When I try to shift + up + down or ctrl + up + down the files to choose many files, or even doing like this (picture below)

my display of my file manager is still like this. (below). So it really disturb my focus whenever I try to open the files or even manage, copy or move a lot of them,

Can you please tell me so whenever file I check files on the right side, it will be properly seen as there's a background colour or checklist sign on it? (for example like on the left side, I could see Zahra's folder checked properly)

Thank you. I apologize for my English.

I have a 3 month old Yoga 720 13IKB that is now experiencing touchpad issues. I can move the cursor around fine but the left or right click/taps do not work when I hover over an icon. Once I use the touchscreen to open the app, the cursor then works normally. Sometimes the cursor will freeze but I can tap the touchscreen and the touchpad will work normally again. It can be a bit glitchy but is mostly usable. It started exhibiting these issues today after putting my laptop into sleep mode. There is no rhyme or reason to this issue. It happens sporadically.  I have tried to uninstall the mouse drivers but all the options are greyed out. I have adjust the pointer settings as well. Nothing seems to be working to resolve it. I unistalled the Lenovo Vantage software and I also updated the BIOS which was the only update in the Vantage software before I uninstalled it. Another thing I attempted to do was to download the Wacom drivers for the touchpad but none exist. There are also no touchpad drivers listed on the Lenovo drivers site. I am really enjoying this laptop but this touchpad issue is driving me a bit crazy. Thanks in advance for any help!

I am having a problem on my laptop with the cursor freezing and then the screen goes blank. The screen goes black but you can see that the light is still on for the computer. It isnt going in to sleep mode because i disabled it. And when it goes blank nothing works i have to hard boot it. It happens at random times.

It is a brand new, 1 day old, Gateway NV5214u.

Vista 64bit SP1

ATI Radeon 3200HD

(2) AMD Athlon x2 Dual Core QL-65

I just bought this computer day before yesterday and it was happening so i brought it back to best buy. One of the geek squad guys said it could be an overheating issue so he swapped it out for this one.
But it started happening again. I dont know if it is a hardware issue in these computers or if it is something i am doing.

And i doubt that two brand new laptops are having overheating issues. but i could be wrong.

I dont know what to do. Please help.

Hello friends,

Today my computer started crashing. Whenever the crash occurred my computer sounded incredibly loud, ostensibly with fans blazing. Additionally, I noticed the crashing was occurring during gaming (but it hadn't ever before), so I put a temperature monitor on my second screen. I observed that it was crashing at only about 80-83 degrees, which had never led to a crash before. My card is a GTX 760 and should, from what I have read, be able to survive 83 degrees without my computer crashing. Later in the day, my computer started crashing randomly. Then, whenever I booted normally I would only get a black screen with a white cursor after logging in. Then I reinstalled graphics drivers and the computer worked fine for half an hour and started crashing again. An hour later and it will only boot to the black screen with a white cursor (although safe mode working is absolutely fine albeit running on my secondary screen for some reason). Some of the crashes have recorded as bsods by my computer and I have done what the sticky says with them. I believe the issue is my card going bad but I would love a more knowledgeable opinion from the wonderful people here. The log files are attached.

Thanks in advance!

Am wondering if others using AOL on Win 8.1 OS have problems with cursor jumping around when replying to email? Have had AOL tech support working on system for more than 8 hours in past week (PLUS many hours in past months) and nobody there can find source of problem. This cursor jumping ONLY happens when using AOL....not any other application I am running. Has been going on for many months. Driving me crazy! Have refreshed OS once and then reinstalled all apps. AOL 9.7 has been nuked and reinstalled several times; am running it in Win 7 compatibility mode, but that really does not help.

My daughter has a Dell Inspirion laptop with XP. Within the last few weeks when she types something wether MS Word, or on the web or whatever, the cursor will jump to another line....any ideas?

Happy New Year

A:Cursor Jumps?

Did she set auto(whatever it's called) on the cursor?

In the cursor settings, it can be set to automatically jump to "ok" or "submit" boxes, so you don't have to drag your cursor over to them.

Check the cursor settings in "control panel".

I have had a problem with my cursor on my laptop for nearly as long as I've owned it (about a year) but it comes at random, it's not very frequent, and I can't reproduce it, so I haven't come here for help before. It's happening right now, though.
At random, my cursor will start jumping back and forth, left to right, sometimes almost halfway across the screen in one jump, sometimes only millimeters. Once it starts it usually goes nonstop, though sometimes it stops for a few minutes before starting again. It isn't caused by the mouse -- it continues without any change when I unplug the mouse. When using the mouse I can move the cursor normally, except it moves on its own as well. But once it starts doing this, the cursor pad on the laptop stops working right. With that I can move the cursor horizontally, but not vertically.

It's nearly impossible to click on anything because it moves so fast. It keeps jumping whether or not I use either form of mouse. I can try to navigate using only arrow keys, and it messes up anything I try to highlight.

Once it starts, the only way I've found to make it stop is to shut down and restart, but that takes a long time, and it always eventually starts again.

Try disabling the touchpad in Control Panel, of course make sure you have an external mouse first.

On my screen. I have an optical mouse and have reinstalled the drivers, I have run adaware, spybot and ccleaner, and avg. I belive my system is clean(famous last words ) What happens is at random times my cursor will jump down to one of the corners, than I need to move it back to where it was. Its not a huge problem but an annoying one. I know enough about computers to be dangerous but I cant figure out what is going on.
Thanks for any help

Check out what you are using the mouse on.... Try using a different mouse pad. Some surfaces will make a optical mouse jump around. If that doesnt help, get a new mouse.

It would help if you posted which operating system is installed. Invoke the Control Panel and click on the Mouse section. In the Pointer Options section, you can adjust the sensitivity by selecting a slower pointer speed that suits you. Plug  in a USB mouse or a wifi mouse with USB dongle combo for troubleshooting. Is there any difference?  You can disable the touchpad to see if it makes a difference. Use a mouse as a workaround.
