Preferred Solution: Thumbnails in pictures are not showing pictures

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Robyn, Welcome to SevenForums.

Sorry if i have misread your issue but you could try...

Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable

1. Open up Windows Explorer
2. Click on the down arrow next to Organize, which is located under the Back and Forward navigation buttons.
3. Select Folder and search options
4. Under the View tab, uncheck the first option "Always show icons, never thumbnails"

Hope this helps.

I inadvertantly semi installed a photo editor prog off the Office Premium disk (i have now uninstalled it) this meant all my JPEG files then wanted the Office CD to open the file.

I have since put the file association back to normal (IE) but now the Thumbnails view is not working for JPEGS in the My Picture folder.
Bitmaps work but in the JPEG boxes I just get the JPEG file icon and not the actual thumbnail,

any ideas?

I'm not getting any thumbnails showing for any of my pictures, .jpg, .bmp, .png, etc.

I tried deleting C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\IconCache.db then rebooting, no change.

I suspect I turned something off to see how but forgot to turn it back on. How do I get thumbnails to show for my pictures again.

I looked through gpedit but did not notice anything.

This is what I'm seeing. I can change the icon that shows by changing the default program.

Hey Rich,

Double check to make sure that you have thumbnail previews enabled.

I think this may work:Click Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View (tab). Then check (enable) the checkbox for "Remember each folder's view settings".After that, the system should use/apply the view setting that you most recently used in any particular folder (on a folder-by-folder basis).

Everything was ok until a couple of weeks ago and I tried to upload a photo. I could not see the thumbnail in my pictures albums to ensure I was uploading the correct one.
I have tried changing the size etc to no avail.
As i am partially disabled and cannot use my hands effectively this extra work on my fingers is causing me much pain and restricting my ability to use my laptop effectively
Thank you for any assistance you can afford me in this enquiry

You can try opening your pictures folder. Click Organize in the top left corner then click Folder and Search options. Click the view tab and see if the "always show icons, never thumbnails" is checked. Uncheck it if it is.

My machine runs WindowsXP and, a couple of weeks ago, I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled WindowsXP from scratch. I had saved my digital pictures onto a CD and, once the reinstall was done, loaded them back onto the computer. They don't "present" in the way they did. They take an age to load with the thumbnails showing parts of pictures or part of picture titles. Some thumbnails don't show a miniature picture at all but display one of the universal pictures that looks like a sheet of paper with the top right corner turned back and a coloured rectangle in the middle.

I have tried "refresh thumbnails" and that's o.k. while I'm in thatt folder. However, if I close it off and reopen the folder later the problem is still there - plus it's still slow to load the pictures.

Any ideas?

If you've got photoshop installed, it could be a problem with PS parsing the thumbnail images instead of just letting Explorer do it. On any one of your images that its doing this with, right-click on it and go to Properties. Select the Photoshop Image tab, and uncheck Generate Thumbnails. This should fix the problem. If that's not the issue, then I'm afraid I'm not any more help for ya.

Btw, I only made this account to respond here, because it took me days to figure out what the problem was and I don't think anyone else should have to suffer through that struggle. lol

Recently, I have noticed that whenever I try to view pictures in Windows explorer using thumbnail view I do not get the actual picture. Instead I get a default picture, ie the sail boat with red sky.

I was doing some "research" I found that a possible fix was the "regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll" command.

Yet I get an error as soon as I run it. It displays the following message:

"DLLInstall in shdocvw.dll failed. Return code was: 0x80070005"

Any suggestions what I can try to solve this problem?

Hi,

Whilst on holiday, I accidently wiped all the images from my digital camera's memory card (not overly clever I admit!). When I got home I sent the card to a data recovery specialist who restored the images from the card to a DVD and sent it to me.

When I load the DVD and navigate to the pictures on my computer, however, the initial thumnails for the pictures load showing all of the details of the photo, but then seem to automatically refresh a second later, this time showing big grey-ed out areas in the photos. If I then open the images, the grey areas also appear.

It sounds a bit weird I know. But it seems that the data for the whole picture may be there given that the thumbnail initially shows the whole picture. Am I being too optimistic or is there a chance I can recover the whole of the pictures still?

Many thanks for any help anyone is able to provide.

Cheers,

David

Okay hey guys.. Quite a hard one to explain here..

When i go into my pictures from start menu, all my pictures have no icons/thumbnails.. They only have descriptions underneath..
When i click on the description it suddenly stops responding.. Bit strange and is doing my nut in! :D

The major problem is that i cannot view my photos but i also cannot upload onto sites such as facebook as a result..

Note: I have scanned for viruses/trojans and there is nothing..

Could these files have been moved or something.. Any help appreciated..

Steve

A:No thumbnails in my pictures folder.. Files lost?? Then not responding.

I cannot quite imagine how it looks. What do you mean that there are only descriptions underneath? Are you referring to the image name?
Have you tried right clicking on one of them, and then choosing "Open with..." and open them with one of your image programs?

Hi,

For some reason it isn't downloading images anymore, just the backgrounds and the text, no pictures. Sometimes, when I've just connected, it might download one or two images on a site and then it just stops and the rest of the page downloads and there's just placeholders instead of the rest of the images.

Say I do a Google image search, on the first page one or two pictures might download at the top and the rest stay as placeholders and in the status bar it says, '24 items remaining' but the status bar reaches the end and it just stops. If I then click on the next page, no images download, just empty placeholders. (Sorry if that was too much detail :) )

Would appreciate your help.

Thanks for your time--

I've searched & searched, but am not quite sure how to word the problem, so if this is a repeat question, I apologize.

There are certain 'pictures' that won't show up in IE6. For example, on a messageboard I frequent, they use little dots to show you that the message is unread. The placeholder (minus the X) shows, but not the brown dot. I have to hover over the placeholder, and right click "show picture" & then it shows. The same goes for other sites. Another example is here at TSG. Sometimes on the page where your username is (with your avatar, ect.) there is a tiny placeholder. If I click on it, it turns back to the turquoise blue. Most of the time, the red X is not there (possibly because the picture is so tiny?) but ocassionally, it is there.

I have no idea where to even begin to check on things. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you.
Erin

hi,
I have been having a problem where PNG pictures from a website won't show up in internet explorer 7. I thought it might be the websites at first, but I tried it on another browser and I didn't have that problem. The only pictures that don't show up are PNG pictures and I don't know why. Is there anyway I can get the pictures to show up? I would really appreciate if someone could tell me, thanks.

A:PNG pictures not showing up in IE7

I am having the same problem on my Vista box. PNG images are not showing in IE - not on any website.

It seems this has something to do with Apple's Quicktime. I have gone to MIME and File Assoc. settings in Quicktime and set the images to open on the machine with Photoshop - this works fine. But when I try to view a PNG on the web I get the "red X" image not found.

I have tried this registry fix: http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/202/1/

But it does not work and gives an error.

Also, when I try to open an PNG in IE localy on my machine it's using Quicktime to try and open the file.

Browser URL:
C:\Users\neal\Web Sites\images\cancel_f2.png

I am also attaching screen shots from a program called MIME View which obviously shows how Quicktime seems to have hijacked PNG images??? I am also including a screen shot of the settings for a jpg, which I assume should be about the same for a PNG.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Neal
