Preferred Solution: pc slows down when playing music or video

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I see nothing in your log other than

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zzzHPSETUP] G:\Setup.exe

Do you know what that might be ?

I just purchased a gaming laptop from a friend. Basically what is happening is that whenever I play any type of music... On windows media, vlc, even streaming music, if I'm doing ANYTHING else on my laptop, the music skips and the computer lags. This includes using any program, browsing the internet, etc... The only way I can play songs without any issue is just not do anything else. However, videos don't do that, playing games don't do that. I can stream from netflix and still be able to do other things without any problems. It is just when I play music. It makes no sense to me. Can anyone help with this very annoying issue?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate edition
Windows 7 Ultimate
Service Pack 1

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz
Installed memory: 6.00 GB
System type: 64-bit

In device manager for sound, video, and game controllers it has Realtek High Definition Audio listed and the drivers are up to date.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

That laptop appears to be about 6 years old and is not a gaming one.

What brand name and model name and model number is it?

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) file.

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

Information about that laptop will appear.

Hi, I have windows vista ultimate, and I make tons of videos. In November, I built a new pc, and it worked great! no problems (specs are at the bottem). Now I only have one problem, and to me this is a big problem. I make tons of videos, with my freinds, and sometimes for money. Im going to college for video in a year and a half, so I need to do as much now as possible. The problem is that all songs and videos on my computer randomly will slow down for 4-5 seconds, then continue as if it hadnt happend. I have no idea what the cause of this is. This did not happen until february, when I got windows vista. before installing it, I completly formated my harddrive, and installed vista ultimate (previously had windows xp pro).
Now I have no idea how to fix this problem. You now are probably wondering why I waited so long to say this, but I just finally had enough of it. I just put up with it for so long. It does not only slow down while watching and listenign to videos and music on my computer, but also when I watch videos off of the internet (even if they are completly buffered. I know there can be conflicts with video codecs? not really sure what that means, or how i would fix that, but any suggestions at all would be extremly helpful. Thank you VERY much! -Nick.

Whenever I open a video file, my computer gets incredibly slow. It takes minutes for the file to open using Divx Player, and when I use Windows Media Player the video can not catch up to the audio. After I shut-down those programs, my computer stays slow and I always have to restart. I've scanned my computer using Spybot and McAfee and haven't found any viruses. Can you give me any advice?

Ok, let me get to the point, lately whenever I play a music file on my system or watch an online video, all I get is sluggish and choppy sound. I am running Vista Home Premium SP1. My specs are as follow :

AMD Athlon 64X2 TK-53 1.7Ghz
120GB Serial ATA Hard Drive

I've got all of the latest drivers
I ran various virus scans, yet no avail. I am running with all the latest OS updates. Now I am at my wits ends and baffled as to why suddenly it does this.

I also check my hard drive for errors using chkdsk yet it reports nothing bad.
However now that I think of it, I did update my BIOS last week I am running a PHOENIX AMD BIOS with version 3.13 Date : 08/22/2008.

Perhaps this caused some odd behavior ? But as far as I'm aware of, nothing else is wrong with my system.

My only problem is choppy audio while the hard disk drive is active. For example I could be copying a file while listening to music and all I hear is choppy audio. Unfortunately this is a pain in arse while playing games from the hard drive. All I get is choppy/sluggish audio.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am getting rather tired at the moment, don't mind my ****ty grammatical errors in this post. All I want to do is get my point across and hopefully get this problem fixed.
PS : If anyone would like to contact me further regarding this problem please don't hesitate to send me a Private Message or post in this topic.

Ok, I restarted my computer from a fresh boot this morning and when I opened up iTunes to play a song, I clicked the play button. It then proceeds to keep the song on 0:00, no audio no nothing. No attempt to even start the song.

Thinking it was an iTunes error I tried to play something in WMP. It did the same thing....clicked play and the song stays on 0:00. Now I tried to play a video in WMP to see if that worked, and it played extremely slowly and laggy with no audio. VLC media player is doing the same thing.

Some background on my system, it doesn't lag. I have an i7920 and the hard drive the music and audio is stored on is extremely fast. I also tried moving the music to a different HD on my system and it does the same thing. Any help is appreciated. I am going to try a system restore.

A:Music/video not playing (Not an audio problem)

A system restore fixed it. Looks like a windows update was installed. Thats the only thing that could have done it. I haven't installed anything for over a week. If you know what might have done it specifically, let me know.

A friends PC keeps crashing after a few hours of usage (watching movies, listening to music). I've been attempting to troubleshoot it but I'm not to sure about how to find the cause of the problem. Based on my google search, which led me here, it's caused by either RAM, HDD, Drivers or overheating. I unfortunately can't get the dump right now, but I did get the info from the event log.

The computer has rebooted from bugcheck. The bugcheck was 0x00000124 (0x000000..., 0xfffffa8003560038, 0x00000000b2000000, 0x000000001040080f).

Problem Event Name: Bluescreen
OS Version 6.1.7601.

Does this info narrow down the issue, or is it just generalizing the problem down to what's been stated before?

This is not a "must have", but it is a lot of fun. You can play a video as desktop background which is especially nice if it is a music video. For that you need VLC. If you do not have it yet, you can install it from e.g. here ( Download VLC Media Player 1.1.2 - FileHippo.com ). And here are the few easy steps:

1. Open VLC and go to Tools > Preferences
2. Click on the icon called Video on the left (3d icon from the top)
3. Change Output (which is set to Default) to say Directx Video Output
4. Click on the Save button (important)
5. Now select the video you like to play -> Media > Open File
6. Right click on the VLC window where the video plays and go to Video > Directx Wallpaper
7. Minimize the VLC window and enjoy your new desktop

If you want to get out of it, right click on the VLC icon in the taskbar and Close VLC. In case you later want to use VLC for "normal" operation, you have to reset the Output to Default and Save it.

I've installed the latest driver 4 my gfx card (integrated) , I've scanned with kaspersky, panda, avg, ad-aware and windows defender and I've cleaned up my registry and disk with Ccleaner.

I've got 223 MB RAM, which seems to get eaten up as fast as heck during start-up and afterwards, so I downloaded XP FreeRAM Pro or w/e. It got 4 stars on download.com and IMO it works well. Computer temps are within safe levels (40 -55c max) and it makes no distinct sounds when frozen. When it freezes, the screen stays still and sound turns off. Basic functions like turning on the CAPS lock light are working. I've got my PC tuned up for fast performance, no desktop BG, no window effects (it looks like windows 98) only 4 desktop icons (including the mystring thing). I only got ZoneAlarm firewall, AVG and FreeRam on my taskbar. Still slow, sometimes. I dunno what else to do.

I'm running on an AMD Duron, with VIA motherboard (with S3 Unichrome integrated gfx)
and VIA AC97 audio controller (which i haven't found an update for).

Any suggestions? Thx in advance.

Oh, and it freezes on low-end games. Pharaoh only needs 32 MB RAM and I can't run it w/o freezing it's maddening.

Hello, I've been having problems for quite some time now and upon google search after search there doesn't seem to be an answer. When the audio is on, for videos, games, music, etc. it sometimes "skips" like an old cd player. Its pretty obnoxious, and I'm wondering why exactly this is so. I'm assuming I have an old driver or something, because I upgraded my pc from win 7 to win 8 pro. Thanks for the help and let me know if anyone needs clarification!

A:Jittery sound when playing music/video games (Win 8 Pro)

Audio is always on a shared Interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device. Depending on the shared device, it can "interrupt" the audio and cause skipping.

If you have the HP supplied IDT audio driver for Win 7, it is also compatible for Win 8. However, check the Device Manager and see what devices are listed in the Sound section. You should ONLY have the correct IDT sound driver and possibly HDMI audio (if your system has this) and nothing else. If "HD Audio Codec" (the generic Windows installed sound driver) is also listed, or any other sound, except the IDT and possibly HDMI, uninstall those as they can cause conflicts and other audio problems. Restart the PC if you uninstalled anything.

If you only have the correct entries in the sound, RIGHT click on the entry for the IDG and then LEFT click "Uninstall" (do not uninstall the drivers). Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This will fix any potential corruptions between Windows and the sound and sometimes will put the sound on a different shared IRQ and fix or mimimize any interruptions.

Hello there!
First I must say I'm not really sure if this is an actual hardware issue. I had my (Win 10) computer for approx. 1.5 year and I didn't have this problem until recently. When I play music I get this static noise glitches, in case of video the glitches of audio track and video track are in sync. It can range from barely noticeable glitch to around 1-2 second glitches (the ones after which you'd expect to get bluescreen, I never do).
While I could get use to this, the glitches make my computer almost unusable for VR gaming (Vive). As you can imagine it could be motion sickness inducing experience if the video jitters and skips frames every other second not following actual movements of your body. The issue seems to be more severe for VR than regular gaming. It also takes ages to load VR games for some reason (compared to regular games).

The reason why I think this might be hardware issue, more specifically issue with electricity wiring in my apartment is that the fridge situated in the same room as computer stopped working approx. month after I started to have the issue with my PC.

I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Windows will crash to BSOD after about 10-15 minutes of playing a game, listening to music, or watching video. This started happening about a month ago. Up until then everything was fine. I though I found some people with the same problem when I search on Google, but updating their BIOS fixed their problem, it didn't fix mine.

I have updated all of the drivers I could think of and flashed my BIOS to the newest version on the ECS website (I have an ECS KA3 MVP motherboard). This didn't fix the problem. I also made sure I downloaded the Vista driver from Nvidia for my graphics card. I have also run a Memtest and had not errors, and I ran a video card stability test and everything was fine (didn’t even crash). I checked all of the temperatures on the restart and they are all in normal operating range. Here is what the BSOD says everytime.

I apologize if this has already been addressed. I honestly don't know what I'm doing. My Vista's not playing any of the music files on my computer or my iPod on any music player I use (iTunes, WinAmp, the Rhapsody that came with it), though it plays anything else that's online. Other sounds on the computer are also playing (MSN, AIM, system sounds). What it does exactly is, upon clicking any song in the media library, it shows intention to play it but then stays at 0:00, while recognizing the length of song, name of artist, etc. Did I miss something?

I have a Microsoft Windows xp Media Center Edition version 2002 service pack 2. Pentium (R) 4cpu 3.00 GHz, 0.99GB of ram. physical memory left on winver is 1,039,660KB.

I have tried different media players, (window, realplayer, itunes, limewire), I have tried different types of files (mp3, wave). I have tried down loaded songs, & songs copied from my store bought cd's. I have logitech 7 speaker system & when I do a sound check, every speaker works & all volume controls are up & not on mute. Java is up to date 5.0 update10.

I have windows defender & live care on my system that is up to date.

When I play my music on my computer the music starts out okay, but then slows down for a second & then picks up again. CPU will go from ,4,8, and then to 12, 17. 40, and then back down again.

I'm a person that enjoys all types of music and I have tried everything that I could think, but I want to hear my music the way it should sound & not drag, slow down, sorta like an 8-track use to drag in the 70's. (oops showing my age)

My other problem is when I go onto myspace I cannot hear my music or anyone else's on their myspaces, but other sites with sound is okay.

Please, can anyone help? I miss & need my music before my computer gets too old.

A:HELP! music is playing in the background but no music program is open!

Are you close to a radio station's transmitter site and antenna? That sounds like "RFI" (Radio Frequency Interference" getting into your speaker system.

When you get it, unplug the speakers from the PC but leave them powered on and the volume up and see if you still get it. If you do it's RFI and the speaker system is picking it up or it's coming through the AC power line to the speakers. If this just started I would suspect either a bad cable ground or just a dirty plug connection somewhere in the system.

The problem still exists even after Dell repaired the laptop. It took two weeks to get the repaired laptop back from Dell.

The problem is:
When I plug or unplug the charger while playing music/video on laptop, the laptop is freezing with buzzing sound for 1-2 seconds when the laptop begins charging. Even after Dell repaired the laptop, the problem still exists.
Tried installing the updated drivers, the laptop works fine only for a short period and then after some time the same freezing with buzzing sound problem comes back.
Also, if the laptop is restarted it works fine for a while and then the same freezing with buzzing sound problem comes back.

Not satisfied with the Dell and Dell repair services.

When converting musicfiles from a given format to MP3 with dBAmp(version 12), I can't do anything else on the PC besides waiting until the conversion is ready, and when trying, it takes "hours" before other programs open and the Net I just can forget...

I have 1024Mb RAM, 3200Mhz PC AMD 64 Athlon, XP complete with SP2 and the patches/updates, IE60...

Might there be something wrong with the RAM?

A:Music files conversion slows PC down! Normal?

The simple solution is to open task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and select the processes tab. Sort on the CPU column, and you'll find the process that is consuming all the processor time. Right-click on it and select Set Priority, pick Low. This will greatly improve the situation.

Alright so to start here are my specs from what i can remember

P5nsli asus motherboard
8800 gt xfx alpha dog edition
Xfi elite(i know this may very well be the problem)
Pentium d 905 or 930 cant remember.

So basically whenever I use the internet or anything with the 1 gigabit connection I have, music starts having popping sound and cracking. I know this is supposed to be an Xfi elite problem, however I have lastest drivers and everything and it ALSO lags down the whole computer when I go on the internet(this is not a firefox issue or IE, because it does so on any program and only when using the connection)

Hear my plea and help me!

I am not sure if the title accurately tells what my issue is. I hope I can explain it.

When listening to music on my PC, it does not matter if I use Winamp, Songbird, Quicktime, Windows Media Player, or any other software. Every so often, there appears some sort of distortion, like the drive that the music is on slows down. I dont know if it is the driver or what. Its hard to explain. You have to hear it. I dont think its the mp3 file itself, cause I could play a song and it will be perfect, but then the next time I play it, it will distort. It is really driving my nuts cause I can't find the reason for it.

Anybody out here got any ideas? even crazy ones? Thanks.

So I searched around for a bit and found a few discussions about the Music app crashing, but none appear to be the problem I'm having. I can open the app and do most things in it. Search, navigate around, I can even play music most of the time except for one notable exception. When you click on an artist or album, the app opens a smaller window in the middle of the app where you can usually play the song, along with a few other options (like Play Top Songs or Explore Artist. Whenever I click play from this window, the app suddenly closes. This does not happen with music that I have files locally on my hard drive, it only happens with streaming music. I can get streaming music to play as long as I can find a play button elsewhere in the app aside from this window that pops up in the middle of the screen. But if a song is already playing, I can skip back and forth and navigate around the app. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app and this fixes it for a little while, but it eventually begins happening again. It crashes with zero other apps or programs running. I have AVG antivirus running, but I disabled that for a while and it still crashes. I noticed that when it does crash, the Music app doesn't close completely as it's still listed along with other running apps if I hover in the upper left corner and drag my mouse down to view all running apps.

Is there any particular reason that you are not using UEFI or Secure Boot?
In general this model comes with UEFI and Secure Boot enabled.

Have you set the time and time zone on your system? (the flag on your profile says Minnesota, but the time is set to Pacific Daylight time).

The system also comes with a 1 tB HDD, but now has an SSD installed - did you have someone install the SSD and move the operating system for you? (We do this at work quite often - normally we do it by cloning the hard drive to the SSD).

I'd suggest running a memory diagnostic, as one of the memory dumps has an error that is suggestive of memory problems (hardware): Memory Diagnostics You may also want to run the free hardware diagnostics from here: Hardware Diagnostics

Beyond that, I'd suggest visiting the Asus website and updating ALL of the drivers there.
To start with, go by the dates on the drivers in the memory dump that I've listed below.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

My computer slows down while I'm playing this game, KalOnlinehttp://www.kalonline.com
I've been playing it for 2 years now and I've never had this problem, but then I Formated my computer and the problem appeared, but the problem is not because my computer is weak, because it's not that bad, it can play Oblivion without any problems. It also slows down playing Medieval II Total War when I'm fighting in the map.
After these problems I went to get the lastest drives for my graphics board and after installing them, I still have the same problem.
So I ask you if you guys could help me out, because I don't know what else to do, Thanks.

Computer Specs:
CPU - Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz
RAM - 1024 Mb (2X512)
Graphics - ATE Radeon X600 PRO (256Mb)
Hard Disk - 160Gb (80Gb free)

A:Computer slows down while playing games

I guess it slows down because of the CPU's internal thermal protection - in other words, it overheats.

Oblivion probably isn't affected because it requires more from the graphics card, not that much from the CPU.

I've been having some severe video problems lately. I have reinstalled a fresh version of DirectX, though dxdiag still reports that I am missing a file d3dim700.dll.

Videos will load as usually, and play normally for a few seconds, until the video starts lagging behind, and the audio continues as normal. This happens with all media players. I have also tried tweaking the acceleration, to no effect.

I am running Windows XP Home, 2.8ghz celeron, 1g RAM, Intel xtreme graphics 2.

A:Video playback trouble - Video slows down

Hi Prospect151

Try downloading & installing a fresh version of the Intel graphics drivers as well. Here's a link to the 9/28/2005 version 14.17 driver for the Extreme Graphics 2 of the the 865G integrated graphics for Windows XP --- http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...lName=Windows* XP Home Edition&lang=eng --- another alternative would be to try Windows Update.

Should you have any other system files missing, scan for malware - to make sure that unwanted visitors aren't altering system files. You can also try a run of Windows File Protection (aka System File Checker) - from the Start/Run box, type

sfc /scannow

... the program might prompt for either your Windows installation CD, or the spot on your hard drive where your .cab files are. It will only do so if it finds a file-version problem, or a file missing. The program will leave entries in the Event Viewer for when it starts, when it stops, and what files it replaced (if any). The Event Viewer is in the Administrative Tools in your Control Panel.

Best of luck

My system specs are:
Pentium D 2.8Ghz
RAM 2GB DDR2 533Mhz
Mobo - Mercury PVM7 Pro Version 1.0
nVidia GeForce 128MB 5200FX AGP 8x - No FAN provided by the company
80GB Seagate SATA

While playing games, after about half to one hour, game starts acting too slow. While playing, frame rates are reduced and game runs with pauses. I am taking here the example of NFS Carbon. This happens with all other games too. This happens always, no matter CPU/GPU is overclocked or are in their factory settings. I highly suspect this is overheating problem.
But when I was trying OCing, I installed a 12mm fan on my GPU's HS(it doesnt have any fans). Then I ran stability test for 4-5 hours, then played games for another 2-3 hours(with this problem) and then shutted down my comp directly and opened the case and touched the HS on GPU(all took 1 min), it was dead cold. I have tested this before installing the FAN too, but that time HS was very hot. So, I am confused. Anybody please help me out.

Answer this question too:
How to measure the frame rate I am getting while playing any game, say NFS Carbon? Can it be done through any other way than benchmarking tools for NFS Carbon?

whenever i watch video on any media player or via streaming online, it will initially play fine for around 10 minutes and then will start to go really slow before stopping computer.

When this happens my whole system slows completely down and i then have to wait 10 minutes for it to speed up again before i can resume watching the video. My computer is fine at all other times when video is not playing.

Thanks in advance for any help

A:Video slows down

Hi davych and welcome to TSF !

To me this looks like an overheating issue. When overheating recent processors will throttle down (i.e. reduce their performances) to stay cool. Video playback will make the CPU, GPU and power supply work more than when surfing the web or doing office work.

What are your complete system specs ? If this is some brand computer then brand and model will do, else look at the "posting system specs" link in my sig. If this is a desktop don't forget the brand, model and wattage of the power supply (on the sticker that's on the side of the power supply block when you open the computer case).

If this is a desktop computer then turn the computer off, unplug the power cord and open the computer case. Use a can of compressed air to clean all the dust you see, focus on the fans (CPU, video card and power supply) and heatsinks (CPU heatsink). Replug the computer, turn it on and check that all the fans are spinning.

Enter the BIOS at startup (repeatedly press del or look for some message telling you to "press xx to enter setup") and search for some hardware monitor or pc health & status screen. Please report your temps, fan speeds and voltages from there.

For about a month now I have been trying to watch youtube videos, but the video slows down while the audio plays perfect and then the video will skip up to where the video is supposed to be but then repeat the process. I have tried restarting my computer, I updated my Adobe, and I updated Java. I also uninstalled and reinstalled both of those things but nothing worked. This also started happened right after I installed 8gb of ram but I don't see why that would cause it to slow down. I also do not want to uninstall the ram. I used the exact same one that was already installed.

After that you need to install the extra codecs you need. Wmp does
not provide codecs for divx, mp4,etc. I use coles codecs, but there

This started about two weeks ago with it happening rarely; but, the frequency has increased along with the durations until it has gotten very annoying. It happens on YouTube, MSN, CNN and about any site with streaming content.

I have tried the board's original sound driver, the Windows in-built driver and the latest driver from MSI. Reloading the driver has helped only for a few hours; but, the stuttering always comes back, starting with just a little every now and then and then increasing to the point of aggravation, frustration and eventually becoming useless.
