Reflashing BIOS on G510 with Windows 10

Q: Reflashing BIOS on G510 with Windows 10

I have a BIOS problem, it's always stuck when there is anything connected to the ports (LAN, USB, HDMI, 3.5mm jack and so on).The problem is, when I enter BIOS, I browse the tabs there a bit and it gets stuck to a point I have to hard shut down, and the clock resets to a different and wrong date.I replaced CMOS, that's not the problem.I wanted to know if maybe reflashing BIOS might help, but noticed that BIOS software is only available for Windows 8.1 and not for 10, as can be seen here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/il/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g510... Is there any way for Lenovo to make it available for Windows 10 as well? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys,

I have an asus p5k motherboard and in a few games its just freezing and the computer isnt even under heavy load. I've tested the motherboard, memory, hdd's and the cpu, all are fine. So i thought i may as well upgrade the bios.

Except the problem is, i dont have any floppy drives in this computer. Is there any other way i can get into dos from startup in an XP machine?

i have both the .rom utilities on a cd... can i stil use that or not?

Right after re-installing Windows 8 on a Lenovo G510, I updated the BIOS to version 79CN50WW (V3.09) with the file which is available on this website. Unfortunately, the update crashed right in the middle of the process and leaves me with a broken BIOS. After booting the notebook, I get the following messages: lenovo logo"EFI Nentwork 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)" with an [OK]-Button. If I hit OK, I'll get..."No bootable device -- Please restart system"If I restart the system, I'll see the following messages: lenovo logo"EFI Nentwork 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)" with an [OK]-Button. If I hit OK, I'll get..."Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed.Insert Recovery Media and Hit any keyThen Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media"If I hit [OK] again, the Boot Manager shows up with a list which has two entries which are:EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)Whatever option I choose from these both, nothing changes. How can I recover the (previous) BIOS or get the notebook to work again properly?

Hello all, this is my first post here so apologies if it is in the wrong category.

I have been trying to repair a laptop for my friend that cannot boot up to windows. It is constantly going to Startup repair and whenever I try repairing windows with USB it always fails.

Now I am trying to access the bios to change the boot device to the USB drive so I can do a fresh install of windows.
Here's my issue, the laptop will always go into the startup repair mode without giving me the option to enter the bios.

Will removing the cmos battery resolve this? ( I want to avid this option as it means opening the laptop, since it is not my laptop. I may find it difficult even locating the cmos battery)

Any other ideas how I can access the bios?

- Edit -

The laptop is running windows 8.1 x64

Hi,

I remember that thread. Unfortunately you didin't receive good advice concerning your BIOS and it all went pear-shaped because you flashed it incorrectly. The person that convinced you to flash your BIOS is no longer here, to help.

From what I recall in that thread the only option left was to either:

1. Buy a new BIOS chip.
2. Buy a new motherboard.

No amount of flashing will fix your problem - I thought you had realised that at the end of that thread? Do you remember writing this:

Quote:
yes it is not broken i will not fix it and waste my money when i can jsut get a replacemnt mobo

Well i guess i learned one this in the past two day.. !!! DONT EVER FLASH MY BIOS!!!

That said, drivers for G510 (Windows 8.1) on Lenovo's website are outdated-- from 2013-2014. I simply ask you to please post up-to-date drivers for G510 (Windows 8.1) so I can use the laptop with peace of mind, and get rid of the BSoD's. Yes, I have tried many solutions. So, does anyone installed windows 10 on g510 ?? If so please tell me whether it's a driver problem or hardware problem. ?

Hi!I have a problem with driver installation on my G510 notebook with Windows 7. I've installed all drivers, and only two had left: "Unknown Device" and "PCI Simple Communications Device". After installing the Intel Power Management Engine, the "Unknown Device" had disappear (installed successfull), but second one is still not installed. VendorID (8086) and DeviceID (8C3A) suggests, that this is Intel Power Management, but this driver is allready installed. I tried to install different versions of this driver (even for Win8), but nothing changed. My G510 Lenovo laptop came prebundled with a windows 10 home edition, I was more comfortable with my windows 7 ,so I used my 64bit windows 7 ISO image and created a boot image in USB (like I normally do while changing OS). Using UEFI options, I booted using the USB and the installation screen I formatted my primary C drive .While trying to install the 64 bit version it shows "windows cannot be installed, the partition is of GPT style " I tried with a windows 8 version as well as a windows 10 version also, but the result was same .I have seen solutions in many places using command prompt List Disk option ,but I believe it will result in formatting the entire hard drive .Is there any way, I can install a 64 bit windows 7 ( or even windows 8 ) into my hard disk without losing all the data in other drives ( Since C drive is formatted already, it doesn't matter in that drive).I am waiting for  a clarified solution to solve this problem some how and get my laptop to a working condition, Please do help.(Meanwhile, I have  tried almost all options in UEFI menu like legacy/uefi boot mode/ priority settings, etc, Nothing has given any result other than this same warning .

My G510 is having issues with bluetooth ever since windows 10 was installed. It was working perfectly on windows 8 which was installed before it. I've downloaded the relevant drivers: Bluetooth Driver (CyberTan/Broadcom, Liteon/Atheros) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Lenovo G410, G510. Version: 6.5.1.3703/7.4.0.165.There are several drivers in this package, and I've tried installing all of them one by one with no success. Some of them gave a message that the device doesn't exist, others just didn't add any device to the device manager list. In addition, the device manager does not recognize that there's a bluetooth component at all, and there are no problematic devices on the list. In windows, there are no bluetooth menus, but I assume that it's because there's no recognizeable bluetooth device. I've tried the solution in this thread by trying to install the energy management software, but it didn't work as well. Please assist.

Hi Amitkd44,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try to check first if the DVD drive show up in the BIOS (FN + F2 on restart or from off status using the Novo button).
This would allow you if the physical dvd device is mechanically detected by the motherboard and is not related to any drivers or Operating System.

Initial tab should show the same drive listed along with the harddrive within the BIOS screen.
If so, then reseating the drive (removing and placing it back making sure contact points are secured.
Here is the hardware manual that can help as a guide.

Update us soon as convenient.

The next time you're able to boot into your system I would recommend running CrystalDiskInfo to check your hard drive's health. It's a nifty little freeware application that I find pretty helpful. It has yet to fail me. Just google the name and you should be able to find the download site, it's usually the first result.

Hi Zoori,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that ?Dolby Digital plus Advanced Audio? is not working as expected in your G510 Laptop and displaying an error message to install the upgraded version of the Dolby driver in the computer, below are the troubleshooting steps to check and resolve this issue.

Open Device Manager. (Right-click on the Start button and choose Device Manager).
Expand the Sound, Video and Games Controllers section.Right Click on the Conexant Smart Audio HD item and choose Uninstall.
Still in Device Manager, click on Action>Scan for new Hardware.
The Conexant Smart Audio item will re-appear.Right-Click on it and choose update driver.Navigate to d:\drivers\audio.When that's done, close Device Manager.Open File Manager and navigate to D:\drivers\Audio\DolbyGUI and install Dolby Digital plus Advanced Audio.
That should get rid of the error message and this version of Dolby Digital plus Advanced Audio should be working as expected.

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

My laptop has no problem before. Recently I try to install Windows XP. First attempt fail, so I change SATA at BIOS from AHCI to Compatible, success. However the partition that I want to install*Windows XP to is not available.*

So just to test I choose my Windows 7 partition. Since it want to format the partition, I cancel the installation. After restarting windows, it stuck at bios. I restart again and change SAT to AHCI. Restart, still stuck at bios. This time I cannot enter BIOS, recovery or change boot media. Assuming the boot sector has corrupt, will reseating the cmos battery will fix this *problem. Please help. Thanks in advance.*

A:Windows 7 Stuck At BIOS Cannot Enter BIOS or Change Boot Media

Somehow with guidance from Lenovo Community, I solved the problem.

For future reference:
1. Take out HDD, battery, plug off ac power.
2. Restart, change SATA Controller in BIOS to compatible, restart.
3. Check whether the SATA Controller is Compatible or AHCI. If Compatible, force shutdown laptop.
4. Put back HDD, boot with Windows 7 Recovery CD or Installation Disc.
5. Choose Autostartup Repair.
6. Restart.

Ever since switching to AHCI mode, I've noticed that my keyboard has issues with the volume wheel not working properly. Also after setting up the LED lighting on the keyboard and a few restarts later, I've notice that when restarting my system the keyboard LED, blue in this case, will automatically show up and when it does, and I use the del key to get into BIOS doesn't work. I have to move the the usb connection to a different port, restart and keyboard LED will be white. This time using the del key, I can get into my BIOS no problem. This never happened when I was using native IDE mode.

A:G510 issue

After some googling, there seems to be some similar issues as mine. So what I did was make sure the service HID was running and set to automatic. Then uninstalled software, rebooted and then installed software (logitech 8 driver/software package) in windows 7 compatibility mode. So far keyboard is acting just like it did in windows 7, scroll wheel working as it should and keyboard is led is white on boot up which allows me to use the del key to get into the BIOS like in windows 7. So far so good.

Hi there, My G510 charger broke, so I needed a new one. I bought from amazon but unfortuantely it just overheated and subsequently died within about a month. Ideally I'd like a proper Lenovo one to cover me but it seems I've bought a very obscure laptop and I cannot for the life of me find one on their site. My laptop spec is: Lenovo G510 Laptop, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 1TB, 15.6", Black (bought in July 2014) This is the charger that didn't work: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lavolta-Adapter-Laptop-Charger-Thinkpad/dp/B00NA6RLCQ/ref=cm_cr_othr_d_prod... Any help would be much appreciated Cheers
