Reflashing BIOS on G510 with Windows 10

Q: Reflashing BIOS on G510 with Windows 10

I have a BIOS problem, it's always stuck when there is anything connected to the ports (LAN, USB, HDMI, 3.5mm jack and so on).The problem is, when I enter BIOS, I browse the tabs there a bit and it gets stuck to a point I have to hard shut down, and the clock resets to a different and wrong date.I replaced CMOS, that's not the problem.I wanted to know if maybe reflashing BIOS might help, but noticed that BIOS software is only available for Windows 8.1 and not for 10, as can be seen here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/il/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g510... Is there any way for Lenovo to make it available for Windows 10 as well? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys,

I have an asus p5k motherboard and in a few games its just freezing and the computer isnt even under heavy load. I've tested the motherboard, memory, hdd's and the cpu, all are fine. So i thought i may as well upgrade the bios.

Except the problem is, i dont have any floppy drives in this computer. Is there any other way i can get into dos from startup in an XP machine?

i have both the .rom utilities on a cd... can i stil use that or not?

Hello all, this is my first post here so apologies if it is in the wrong category.

I have been trying to repair a laptop for my friend that cannot boot up to windows. It is constantly going to Startup repair and whenever I try repairing windows with USB it always fails.

Now I am trying to access the bios to change the boot device to the USB drive so I can do a fresh install of windows.
Here's my issue, the laptop will always go into the startup repair mode without giving me the option to enter the bios.

Will removing the cmos battery resolve this? ( I want to avid this option as it means opening the laptop, since it is not my laptop. I may find it difficult even locating the cmos battery)

Any other ideas how I can access the bios?

- Edit -

The laptop is running windows 8.1 x64

Hi,

I remember that thread. Unfortunately you didin't receive good advice concerning your BIOS and it all went pear-shaped because you flashed it incorrectly. The person that convinced you to flash your BIOS is no longer here, to help.

From what I recall in that thread the only option left was to either:

1. Buy a new BIOS chip.
2. Buy a new motherboard.

No amount of flashing will fix your problem - I thought you had realised that at the end of that thread? Do you remember writing this:

Quote:
yes it is not broken i will not fix it and waste my money when i can jsut get a replacemnt mobo

Well i guess i learned one this in the past two day.. !!! DONT EVER FLASH MY BIOS!!!

I recenly bought a used g510 from a guy and haven't check the ports. Later only noticed both the USB 3.0 aren't working at all but USB 2.0 port works fine. So, I thought mabye driver problem and I clean installed win 10 build 1607 x64 and all the drivers are updated and there's no any yellow warning in Device manager. I tried some driver update softwares and it all says all drivers are upto date. And also Device manager shows USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller under Universal Serial Bus Controller. So, does anyone installed windows 10 on g510 ?? If so please tell me whether it's a driver problem or hardware problem. ?

Hi!I have a problem with driver installation on my G510 notebook with Windows 7. I've installed all drivers, and only two had left: "Unknown Device" and "PCI Simple Communications Device". After installing the Intel Power Management Engine, the "Unknown Device" had disappear (installed successfull), but second one is still not installed. My G510 Lenovo laptop came prebundled with a windows 10 home edition, I was more comfortable with my windows 7 ,so I used my 64bit windows 7 ISO image and created a boot image in USB (like I normally do while changing OS). Using UEFI options, I booted using the USB and the installation screen I formatted my primary C drive .While trying to install the 64 bit version it shows "windows cannot be installed, the partition is of GPT style " I tried with a windows 8 version as well as a windows 10 version also, but the result was same .I have seen solutions in many places using command prompt List Disk option ,but I believe it will result in formatting the entire hard drive .Is there any way, I can install a 64 bit windows 7 ( or even windows 8 ) into my hard disk without losing all the data in other drives ( Since C drive is formatted already, it doesn't matter in that drive).I am waiting for  a clarified solution to solve this problem some how and get my laptop to a working condition, Please do help.(Meanwhile, I have  tried almost all options in UEFI menu like legacy/uefi boot mode/ priority settings, etc, Nothing has given any result other than this same warning .

My G510 is having issues with bluetooth ever since windows 10 was installed. It was working perfectly on windows 8 which was installed before it. I've downloaded the relevant drivers: Bluetooth Driver (CyberTan/Broadcom, Liteon/Atheros) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Lenovo G410, G510. Version: 6.5.1.3703/7.4.0.165.There are several drivers in this package, and I've tried installing all of them one by one with no success. Some of them gave a message that the device doesn't exist, others just didn't add any device to the device manager list. In addition, the device manager does not recognize that there's a bluetooth component at all, and there are no problematic devices on the list. In windows, there are no bluetooth menus, but I assume that it's because there's no recognizeable bluetooth device. I've tried the solution in this thread by trying to install the energy management software, but it didn't work as well. Please assist.

Unfortunately it sounds like the drive itself is bad.  Your only real option would be to buy a new drive and reinstall windows.  The down side of that is if you did not make recovery media, you MAY have to purchase a new key for windows, as the recovery partition on the drive is no longer accessable as well.  Best of luck!

Ever since switching to AHCI mode, I've noticed that my keyboard has issues with the volume wheel not working properly. Also after setting up the LED lighting on the keyboard and a few restarts later, I've notice that when restarting my system the keyboard LED, blue in this case, will automatically show up and when it does, and I use the del key to get into BIOS doesn't work. I have to move the the usb connection to a different port, restart and keyboard LED will be white. This time using the del key, I can get into my BIOS no problem. This never happened when I was using native IDE mode.

A:G510 issue

After some googling, there seems to be some similar issues as mine. So what I did was make sure the service HID was running and set to automatic. Then uninstalled software, rebooted and then installed software (logitech 8 driver/software package) in windows 7 compatibility mode. So far keyboard is acting just like it did in windows 7, scroll wheel working as it should and keyboard is led is white on boot up which allows me to use the del key to get into the BIOS like in windows 7. So far so good.

Hey I have a Lenovo G510 Laptop that has been in my possession for about 2 years now. It has been an awesome computer tell recently where it has suddenly decided to not turn on. On startup, both the power and battery light show white and you can hear the fan startup; but 1 to 2 seconds afterwards, the laptop shutdown without even showing the Lenovo logo. No flashing orange light present either, which was the first sign to me that something was wrong. I unplugged the battery and tried to start it without it and it showed the same result. I then drained the computer of power by removing the battery, un-plugged it from the wall, then pressed the power button 10x and also held the button for about 30 seconds. Still proved the same result. I also reseated the RAM too see if that would of made a difference; but nothing. I also tested the voltage on the charge cable and it's running the normal 20V. The two major things to note about my laptop is that 1.) The power cord has become very sensitive over the past month and only charges the laptop in certain spots and 2.) The socket that holds the charger inside the laptop has become very loose within the computer. Worst case scenario is that my motherboard is dead, which I hope not. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,I own g510 and would like to make some changes as following :put SSD 540GB instead of 1Tb that come with the laptop and use the 1Tb disk as secondary disk (in place of caddy).Technically I am able to make the change, my question is whether the laptop can carry that change ,is it feasibleI am especially writing to you as you pointed out in the spec of the laptop that it could carry out up to 1TB HDD storage. In general, what is the maximum ram size i can upgrade the laptop with? And the last issue : I would like to understand all the same about model g500. Regards,Yoran Yossipov

Hello, I've idiotically ruined my space bar while attempting to clean my keyboard. I've looked online, and all I could find is a replacement keyboard that is compatible with these models: Lenovo G50-70AT G50-70 Z50 Z50-70 G50-45 B50 G50 G50-30 But not G510. The pictures show the exact same one I currently have (bar the faulty space bar smh). Will that keybord be compatible with mine? Note: the reason why I could only find that one, is because I'm looking for a keyboard with arabic letters. This link is the one I could find. Ebay/amazon do not ship where I am, sadly.

A:G510 keyboard problem

Hi isonuZ ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You may check the specific part number of your keyboard on the parts look up page using your serial number or machine model number.
Then compare it with available listing from your hardware manual (pages 95-96) aside from the guide to replacement of the keyboard (page47-51)

Update us with the machine model number , just keep the serial number confidential .

There are also service providers that offer single key repair for reference .

Update us as soon as convenient on your end.

Regards

Hello everyone! I recently had some problems with my Lenovo G510 notebook. I forgot it turned on without a charger 2 weeks ago, and it discharged and entered hibernation. Eversince I can't get it to start/boot. Whenever I plug it in, the battery charging led lights up, if I press the power button the power led lights up as well, the fan speeds up for a few seconds, it even tries to read from CD (making that sound), but afterwards the fans go out and the power led also. Please note, that I had my BIOS updated to the latest version (but not recently, so this can not be the root of the problem). Here's what I already tried:Swapping charger with another compatible notebookRemoving battery, charger, holding power button for more than 1 minute, than plugging it back on and trying to startRemoving the CMOS battery, waiting a few days, putting it back/not putting it back at allGiving it shocks by removing the charger (without battery) when it speeds up the fan.Removing components one by one to bypass any short circuit/overvoltage protection error.I'm now left without any service idea. I red on some forums, that this error happened to quite a lot of G510s and those laptops were diagnosed for being stuck on hibernation, and this is my presumption as well. Could you help me out with this one please? Thanks, nbK

(I'm using windows 10 pro) Okay, so this is my problem: my built-in microphone does not record ANY sound, I tried turning the laptop on and off, but that didn't work. Later i searched for some help, and i turned off things like "automatically adjust microphone settings", but it didn't help either. After all of this, I've reset the audio driver (conexant smart audio) to its older version (didn't do anything), and then, I updated it to the latest version. And still nothing. Please help
