I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

something is wrong with the sound or the mic you are using.

Hi I am somewhat experienced in computers, but not very hardcore.

Anyway, my PC's onboard sound card recently stopped working, so I got a new (budget) sound card, a CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device as listed on the device manager. I have disabled the onboard sound card (High Definition Audio Bus) in the Device Manager (it now has a little red X on it).

The output sound is working fine, but everytime I try to use the mic, the whole computer hangs.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Thank you.

My husband and employer both sent me an email that shows the correct date in the email time line, but Outlook shows a recieve date of April 2008.

It doesn't happen on every email, just some. We've all checked our clock dates and their correct. Talked to my Internet Service Provider and they said it was an Outlook problem.

Any ideas?

I followed the following steps on windows 8

1. Everything working I can ping Google
2. Create new incoming vpn network
3. I can no longer use DNS pings to outside addresses don't work although the router still seems to be the DNS server and I can use DNS from another machine on the network including from a vm running on the same machine
4 nslookup to internal and external addresses give a no response from server error
5 Delete the vpn connection and everything works again

My network settings for the pc are all automatic (although I have tried statically setting the ip etc as well)
The settings for the VPN are simply no tcpv6 tcp 4 has a range of ip addresses

I can connect to the VPN from an external network

I have tried turning off the windows firewall but this had no effect nslookup still failed

Any clues how to fix?

Hi....don't know if there is an answer for my "problem" or not...Hope so.

it is now 3:19 in the afternoon (Central St. Time) There has been something coming in ...in my OE e/mail (I have 6.0, and dial up)...This "whatever" has been "receiving" since 15 min. until 2:00 (1:45 p.m.)..it is still coming in...
Is their any way that I can purge incoming...I don't know what it is...and don't care what it is....I don't want it anyhow...
I have been e/mailing my sis in Houston back and forth this morning with no problem, and we have just finished on the phone...and it isn't she who is sending me something.

I just want to know what I can do to stop this from coming in...it is tying up my computer for other 3/mails, and I can't send any out until this is finished...

I did shut my computer down...and I got the (yellow triangle with exclaimation point ) saying error...but closed that and shut down anyhow...waited a few minutes then turned the computer back on.....and it started still coming in...

Can anybody help here...please tell me what I can do....aside from pitching the computer out the window.

P.S. it is now 3:27 and still coming in.

Most of the incoming mail messages are, for unknown reasons, going into the deleted folder rather than into the inbox. This began about two weeks ago when I upgraded to Norton 360 Premium. Maybe this has nothing to do with that, but everything was working prior to it. I am using MS Outlook 2003. I have not made any changes to my Outlook. How do I correct this annoying situation.

A:Incoming Emails

Yes, it could be a coincidence, but I would first suspect Norton. If you can't find any Norton options relative to handling incoming mail I would uninstall it, at least long enough for testing. Symantec has a very good Norton Removal Tool, and that link also gives instructions on how to make sure you have the Product key saved for a later re-installation.

I have done everything I can think of to allow incoming RDP sessions, but it is not working.

I have checked the box under system properties/remote (Allow Remote Assistance connection to this computer) and I have check the box under McAfee Firewall/ports and system services for port 3389.

I have also temporarily turned off the firewall....no good.

I know that system I am RDP'ing from works because I can get to a Windows XP machine.

Thanks in advance.

So I got the above IP in my firewall as an incoming connection blocked.

Anyone have anything to add as to what this might have been about?

A: incoming connection

Hi bass740 From what I see, HelionResearch.com is the website of a Marketing Company that offer advertising and performance monitoring solutions for other companies. My guess is that some website(s) you went on uses their services and when loading that page, it tried to load content from HelionResearch.com as well, but your Firewall blocked it since it wasn't needed or unwanted. At one point, it almost looks like Adware or browsing tracking.

I have an iPad that I use to remote desktop to a Windows XP Pro machine using VPN. All works fine every time. I also have a Windows 7 Pro machine that I want to use instead of the XP one, but can't get a reliable VPN connection.

The VPN connection appears to work every time, but I can only get the remote desktop connection about half the times I connect. Sometimes disconnecting VPN and reconnecting works, sometimes not.

Any ideas (in plain English...)???

A friend has a problem with his internet connection. While online a message pops up saying 'You have just ignored an incoming call', and his connection is lost. On checking he has not had any calls. What could be causing this, and how can it be solved. Cheers.

A:Incoming Call

Guessing its a dial-up connection?

If he has "call waiting" enabled on the phone line it puts a "beep" on the line when a call is waiting (when the line is otherwise engaged, in this case with an internet connection).

Thats what the modem will be detecting I would guess. If the caller then hangs up, the beep while they were waiting can often be enough to disrupt the connection.

How does he know that nobody was calling? If they had given up and hung up?

I have had a web-based email account (starspath) for two years and have had no problems until recently. For whatever reason I can send email, but can't receive any at all. I have not exceeded storage capacity and never open suspicious attatchments. However, I do suspect that may account may be contaminated from some unknown source. It's not a computer issue since I have the same problem whether I'm using my computer, a friends, or a public computing center. When I send messages to this account from an alternate account, they immediately return as "undeliverable", "couldn't find mail exchanger or IP address". I forwarded this problem to the starspath tech support, but inquiries are not exactly acknowledged in a timely manner if you know what I mean. I recently entered the job market (again) and depend on this account as a contact source from prospective employers. Anybody have a solution for me??
Thank You!!

A:No Incoming Mail

To be honest this sounds like something your mail provider will need to sort out. In the meantime you could set up an alternative email address and then set up a rule in the problematic address to forward on to the new address. Then when you want to receive you can receive from the new address.
To be honest I dont think this will work, but its the only thing I can think of and you sound quite desperate

Hi wfl80

You have the Preview Pane enabled?
If you want to close the Preview Pane in Outlook Express:
View > Layout
Uncheck: Show preview pane
Apply, OK to save and close.
What Font is showing for Outlook Express?
Tools > Options > Read tab

These are my settings in Outlook Express:
Font settings
Western European
Default Encoding:
Western European
If the above doesn't help, try creating a new Identity in Outlook Express to see if the font problem persists in the new Identity. If it doesn't, you can migrate to the new Identity and Import all your messages to the new Identity.

Create a new Identity:
File > Identities > Add New Identity
Name the Identity
Click Yes when asked if you want to switch to the new Identity.
Cancel out of Importing or Upgrading if the option is given.
Recreate your E-mail account.

Send yourself a Test message to verify your account settings are correct and to preview the font.

A friend of mine got some malware on her 2-month-old Win7 laptop, so she went to Bellsouth/Yahoo customer service. They tried to sell her a $450 package for 3 years of virus cleanups. Part of their sales pitch, while they were logged into her computer, was to pop up a list with a bunch of IP addresses on it, claiming that these were the incoming connections for the last 24 hours -- "...and notice how many of them were from outside the US."

This sounds bogus to me. I'm not aware of anything on Win7 that does incoming IP logging on a new, only-slightly-tuned system.

What do you think? Was this real, or fake? (If real, I really need to know how to make use of that log myself.)

Hi, techguys!

I need help with the following problem. I'm on a LAN provided by my ISP, but the LAN is very hostile (when I first connected two years ago, I got hacked within something like 15 minutes). I have closed all my ports by disabling all kinds of Windows XP services (Home) and I installed Jetico Firewall, which I think is really good. I log everything, allowed and blocked traffic.

Jetico allows one to see ARP packets going out and coming in. And that's where my problem lies: Almost nothing goes out, but every second, I get about 8 ARP packets! That seems like very much. No addresses on this LAN are trusted. I have disabled NetBIOS and even uninstalled Microsoft Client from the Internet Connection.

I was wondering if there is a way to somehow regulate this traffic. I've tried blocking the packets, but the Internet connection went dead.
Isn't there a way to limit this traffic? Maybe by hardcoring the gateway's and DNS servers' MAC addresses? If yes, how do I do that?
In the command line it says that my gateway MAC is dynamic. Does that mean I have no control over this crazy stuff?
And how can I determine the MAC of my DNS servers?

I have Ethereal installed, but I have no idea whatsoever what to do with it besides watching all those packets come in. I was alarmed by the administrator of firewallleaktester[dot]com that when I registered there for the mailing list, his logs showed some specially crafted packets that 'could only be t... Read more

I keep having incoming blocked ip messages popping up from my malwarebytes. I have run scans with Avast and Malwarebytes and nothing is showing up on the scans. What should I do to make these go away?

A:Incoming Blocked IP Help

That is a sign that malwarebytes is doing its job and protecting you from attacks, if you like you can disable the pop up in the options menu.
If you like we can have a little look see while you are here, make sure you don't have anything obviously nefarious....
Lets scan with ESET Online Scanner.
Please right-click your internet browser shortcut on the desktop or start menu and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.
Follow this link or right click and "copy link location", then paste the link into the address bar on your newly opened browser instance
Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
Firstly, Accept the Terms and click Start

Click Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications and click Start again.

ESET will then download updates, install and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
When the scan completes, click List of found threats. Note: If no malware was found you will not get a list.

Click Export to text file and save the log on your desktop. Then click the Back button.

Check Uninstall application on close and Delete quarantined files, then click the Finish button.

When you click finish the browser will not close but will offer you ESET products. Be aware the scan has actually finished and you need to close t... Read more

Hello, ive been trying to get some information about R600, but internet is confusing xD
how would it be?
how much would it cost?
And ive heard that would be better than the G80, cause of the 512bits 120 GB/s rate transfer, 64 unified shaders, etc, etc....but how much expensive? xD

Greetings from Chile

A:what do you know about the incoming R600?

The X2800XTX is going to be ~$600US. It is better than the G80 with 64 Unified Shaders doing 4 ops per clock so theoretically 256 Unified Shader ops per clock cycle. It will run at 700/2400 and will have 153.6GB/s memory bandwidth. It should be about 1.5x more powerful than G80. G81 should be a little more of a competition, but the R600 should still be better than the G81 aka 8900GTX.

Hi all

My sister just purchased a new Windows XP etc. A week later she had to send the unit back in. Numerous things began to go wrong since the beginning. The first few days it wound just disconnect (on high speed cable access) then eventually after each disconnect programs could not be accessed, nor the CD read, just simply opening up applications such as "Help" could not be done. Tried to the "recovery" disc , but by this time it was too late. The computer would not read thie CD.

After many phone consultations, it was accessed to be a very recent virus curculating (eventually took it back to the place of purchase (warranty etc) They stated to me that this was so very new that all anti virus utilities had not yet been to identify, etc. They also said that this new virus is mainly attacking Windows XP, therefore not attacking other older symptoms.

My question or discussion is that this computer was so new that it never even accessed e-mail. It was told that this new virus came into the unit as soon as she accessed the internet via high speed cable modem.

Is this true ? It seems hard to believe that buying a brand new computer could result in this so fast. I myself have owned a windows 95 & 98 many years & have never been infected in any serious kind of way.

Appreciate any input

I bought a new notebook (Toshiba) with pre-installed Windows XP Home Edition and set it up in my great working LAN @home.
Now, although i shared files (NetBIOS), no one can access my shared directories. Not even by \\IP.

And the strangest thing: This doesn't seem to be a problem of the file-sharing protocol.
I tried FTP-Server, HTTP-Server, they work great on loop-back ( but no one else can connect. (I tried "telnet IP port" from remote computer as well, no connection!)
I only use WinXP-internal-Firewall, configured with Application and port exceptions, but it doesn't work even if I turn off the Firewall for all connections completely.

This problem is since I bought the notebook but I don't want to re-install Windows because everything else works fine.

Portscan reports that just port 21 would be open. With or without firewall but I have no program listening on 21.
netstat /a doesn't show a listen on 21/ftp.
When connecting via telnet from remote computer I get a connetion and can send but I dont't receive anything.

I hope someone can help me because I didn't find anything on the Internet, it's difficult to search for.

I recently found the need to track the incoming IP's of machines attempting to RDP into my Server 2008 R2 servers, this includes a host of... I would say.. 30+ machines. I am only needing the ability to view, not block or stop, and would prefer to stay away from any 3rd party firewalls.

I have heard that the Windows firewall can do this, however, I also read that it cannot track IP's, only logon attempts.

Hello, about a week ago I started experiencing a problem when trying to connect to my friends gaming servers (this may need to go in the gaming section but I think the problem is deeper than that. We use hamachi to avoid port forwarding, firewall issues etc and that refuses to let either of us ping each other, if I try to ping his public IP in CMD it works but if he tries to ping me he gets request timed out. I think the problem is with incoming connections to my laptop. It isn't network specific either as I've tried it on 3 different networks. To summarise, it seems to be any incoming connections are seemingly blocked/ not recognised by my laptop.

What I've tried to fix it:
-Disabling firewall and anti-virus
-Re-installing Hamachi
-checking for network adapter driver updates (None found)
-Trying to connect on different networks (Same problem)

I've had the problem for about a week and its driving me insane! Usually i can fix problems with windows but not this one so any help is massively appreciated

Note this one identity uses a different incoming mail server then the ISP... but still uses the outgoing mail server as the ISP.

The correct setting should be pop.xxx.xxxxx.com and gets reset to after a restart. You can exit Outlook and renter and exit any number of times and the account properties do not change... only on a restart.
FYI, The user account name also gets changed.

Any thoughts.

Well. When I don"t do anything there's screen like this:Is it normal? Do I have trojan or something other virus?sometimes It's red, so there's incoming traffic...

A:Outgoing and incoming traffic when I don"t do anything

It depends where it is coming from and where it is going to.
Few examples from logs would be helpful to see what Kaspersky is reporting.
Also, do you have a router? Do you have other computers connected?
Do you use filesharing or a printer?
What programs do you run at startup, what's in your system tray - some Windows services keep chatting all the time, but many installed programs do as well.

Manly the one thing that will hold you back in gaming on this build will be your video card. Other then that it should work great with UDK, and StudioMax. Id make sure to have a 650 watt power supply and upgrade the video card down the line if you want to run your games a high rez.

I am using Thunderbird as mail client and working fine.but recently I am sticking on a problem that last week I had send a mail to my three friends.A couple of my friends got the mail successfully but unfortunately the third one got the mail in a corrupted format like in the sense the words and sentences spread out over the sheet in an incorrect format. So that I had tried to send the mail again and again but unfortunately he is getting the mail in the same corrupted format. But the other two friends forwarded that mail to the third one, then he got the mail in the original format.I wonder how this happens?.Can anybody suggest a solution?:

A:Incoming mail problem

Hi sijumon,

Check with your friend if he is set up to receive emails in HTML format. If he isn't that would explain the problem. You'd need to send him emails in Plain Text format.

You can select the format via:-

Tools > Account Settings > Composition & Addressing > Compose message in HTML format (tick or un-tick)
