office 2013 interface white washed menus appearing as white spots

Q: office 2013 interface white washed menus appearing as white spots

hi

i have a weired problem on one of our staff laptop. its core i3 system having windows 7 64 bit.
initialy it had visio 2010 and office 2013 installed .. the problem was that when outlook was opened it would open but no text / menus were visible. it was all a like a white window having only title bar.

when i wold open word/excel they would show same behaviour but it would also open some sort of dialog box which was all white.. no button to click on it.. only close button was visible .and clicking on it would exit word/excel/access.

i also tried outlooke.exe /safe .. /resetnavpane.. but no luck

so i removed visio 2010 32 bit and rebooted system . still same issue.

repaired office 2013 32 bit still same issue...

uninstall office 2013 and reboot and and install office 2013 32 bit still same issue.

uninstall 32 bit and installed 64 bit same issue.

sfc /scannow found no violations..

tried it with local administator account same behaviour.. also tried with another local admin priviledges account same issue.. tried with domain accounts same issue..

i removed display drivers and tried wiht standard drivers same issue..

updated to latest drivers still same issue..

i however created a .docx file and opened it with word .. it did opened but some menus were not visible they were just white places instead of the icons for vaiours actions (like bold/font etc).. but i by guess work wnet to options and tried disabling hardware acceleration but still same issue...

please help me.. how to resolve this strange issue..

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I posted in an Office forum and was encouraged to post here.

The subject line says it all...almost.

I can see online that the file menus have white fonts. I've played with various graphic settings and nothing helps. This is the ONLY application I am having trouble with. All my other color schemes and applications look correct.

Oddity: About a month ago an Office 2010 update came through (I don't literally have v.2010 but the naming convention for Office eludes me anyway). After that the fonts went white. No kidding. For a couple of days...then it was back to black. There were a lot of the usual Windows updates at around the same time so I can't be absolutely certain what happened...all I know is that it happened and didn't last.

TIA for any help.

Best regards,
Cane

A:MS Office 2013 File Menu fonts not white - very hard to see

Welcome to Windows Seven Forum.

I have Office Pro 2013 & the File menu is black background with a white font colour. What colour is your File menu & what colour are your fonts. I don't know of any way to change the File menu colour. See attached screen shot.

Office names run in year of introduction order, so there is Office, 2003, 2007, 2010 & currently 2013. There were earlier versions as well, but these are the later ones.
They can also be identified by numbers so Office 2013 is version 15, 2010 is version 14 etc..

Hello. There are white spots on my hp pavilion screen. They appear like very bright, and therefore they make it difficult to read whats under the spot. I figured it might be a damage to the screen, but the spot is in different places each time I turn the computer on. Sometimes it is to the right, and sometimes it's on the left side of the screen. This is very frustrating, what could be the problem, and how could I fix it? Does this seem like a "self-made" damage?

About 2 months ago, seemingly out of nowhere, a black spot appeared on my screen. I have had this laptop for about 2 years with no problems until the spot showed up. I presumed it was dead pixels, but was unable to fix it myself. The spot has now escalated into a huge white area with multiple blue and pink lines running both horizonatally and vertically. I have to struggle with the screen just to keep it from constantly turning pink and/or blue. I've attached a photo of what my screen currently looks like (put against a black background so you can better see the issue). It's very frustrating that it keeps getting worse even though I'm being as careful as I possibly can with my computer. This is my last ditch effort to see if there's possibly any solution to this problem before I just buy a new laptop altogether. It seems like a better solution than having my LCD display replaced, which I know is very expensive. Thank you for any and all help.

Dear Lenovo-Team, last fall I bought a Thinkpad T460p. After around two weeks I realized there were lots of white spots on my screen. Recently, I decided to make use of my warranty and get it repaired/replaced, since it is really annoying and distracting. I am in China right now (bought the Thinkpad in Germany), so I signed up for the International Warranty Services. Unfortunately, the responsible service employee told me, that this problem (pressure spots), is not covered by the warranty. For the second time recently (the first one), I am utterly disappointed by Lenovo! How can a company advertise with phrases like "There?s a reason this is the gold-standard in business settings. Military-specification tested for ruggedness, durability, and quality against a number of strict parameters means it is ready for anything." (link), but leaves so many customers alone with their "pressure" spots? Judging by my own careful use and numberous statements in the forum, it really doesn't seem to be the users fault of applying too much pressure (on this high quality, thoroughly tested business notebook). So herewith I am asking Lenovo again to please help me repair or replace this defective screen. Here are some pictures of the mentioned white spots:

download install update and run Malwarebytes' Antimalware (free).
If you can remember it starting happening recently, I'd system restore to prior whitebox
Run SFC /scannow in a 'run as administrator' command prompt.

A white blob/haze/spots is present on my convertible's screen (Samsung ATIV 700T Smart PC Pro). It appears more prominently if the screen is displaying white and they are present only near the screen's edges. (refer to pic).
Based on my research, those are caused by pressure applied to the screen. I'm the second owner of this device so I have no track record on how it was handled before I acquired it. It's just a little dubious that the screen would end up like that because it's designed for touch input.

Pls. share your thoughts and advice on how to fix it.

I have purchased a brand new HP 15-AB516TX laptop about 4 months back and since then I have used it moderately.Recently, when I opened log in to my laptop, I noticed couple of white bleeding pixels which was visible prominently on white backgrounds mostly. I discussed it with customer care and sent them snapshots. They suggested me to take it to a service centre or get it checked with an engineer visit to my place. I decided to take it the service center and the guys were like at first glance itself; this is a screen damage, you'll have to pay for it. I was like what the hell is the warranty for and how can I pay for something which is unrealistically an error on my end. With all the discussions going on, the only thing they could say was that I did poke the screen with hard and pointy object and that's the reason and within a day there was another white bleeding pixel popping off at another area of the screen. I don't take my laptop to work, nor do I keep it in a state where any pressure could rest up on the screen. The laptop is mostly housed in an HP bag and the bag is always kept at a designated place away from any pointy objects and I'm the one alone in my flat who uses it. There's no possibility of any kind of user damage done to it intentioanlly or accidentally. I need HP and its representatives to understand that not everytime the user can be responsible for such kind of issues. I truly appreciate you (Dell) for making great products and serving well. In last October, I bought a Dell Inspiron i5559 Signature Edition Laptop from Microsoft Store Online. The device has reached my expectations and worked very well. But after few months, my LCD got some unknown spots. I really tried to remove those spots, but I failed. Some videos on internet are saying this is something called 'dead pixels'. But I'm very hesitated about this, because mine was a little different. It only shows on black screen.

As I said above, there is (unknown) spots on my screen. I think it's probably because of keyboard.
And more interestingly, these spots only occur on black.

A:Dell Inspiron i5559 - White spots / Dead pixels

You can contact Dell but it looks like physical damage to the screen - which won't be covered under warranty -- the only coverage for that is if you purchased accidental damage insurance for the system.
The only repair will be to replace the screen.

Hello,

This is my very first post in this forum. I recently bought a Surface Pro 3 and I like to costumize my desktop as much as possible. That said, I wanted to ask if somebody could tell how to change the Metro interface color to white :

As you can see, there is no white option, the brightest option being light grey.

So is there anyway to change that, or does anyone know of any software that would make me able to do so ?

Sorry for my bad english. Anyway, thanks for your help !

A:How to change Metro Interface to white

That's a good question.

Seems impossible by official ways but before attempting any hacks, which of course aren't recommended, why not try the 'High Contrast White' theme.

Then you'll get an idea.

This is a stripped-down theme compared to the default one but should do the job.
The only drawback is that not only Metro but all UI elements are white, including desktop, control panel, apps, etc...
As you can see, High Contrast disables the colors from customisation. In this case only Black texts & White backgrounds remain.

For more High Contrast variations check this thread.

Good luck.

A:White Box Appearing on DeskTop

I had the devil of a time with something suspiciously like this and unfortunately it just gets worse and grows bigger, eventually showing you offers for retail deals that you just do not want. Eventually the box grows to the width of the page almost and fills the bottom quarter of the screen.

I used malwarebytes, microsoft security essentials and avast (all free versions) and none of them could tell me what the problem was. Heres what I done and all appears well to a point (5 days clear of it now)

In firefox go to your add ons - extensions and look for "savings wave" and things like "offers4u" and disable>remove them, remove everything that you do not remember installing.

In IE go to tools, internet options. I cant quite remember all of the steps but heres the link to the page that gave me step by step help without asking me to download or buy anything so its worth you reading it.

Forgot to give you the link...Remove Offers4U ads (Virus Removal Guide)

The only one I couldnt fix was google chrome because the disable option would not work so I just dont use chrome now and stick with firefox and ie.

It might not be your specific problem but its worth a look and...good luck!

Hi, first post here.

I've got a reasonably good PC I self assembled about 18 months ago. Everything has been going well, barring the odd BSOD. For the last month or so, occasionally white horizontal lines appear on my screens and the PC becomes unresponsive. If I was playing music when this occurs, an irritating mono-tonic sound comes from the speakers. I have to power down the PC with the power button.

A:Outlook 2013 icon with red circle White x

That usually indicates Outlook is having an issue connecting to your email server. Did your password change recently? Has your email provider changed the address of their mail servers?

The other option is that the icon shortcut is corrupt, and it's not pointing to the actual location of the Outlook application.

This may be related to your possible malware issue.

True that I once had that version, but now, I am running an activated professional plus with all updates.

I then tried downloading a full installation file for hebrew office 2013, and choosing the "repair" option instead of "install". It "repaired" everything, but I still don't have an option for hebrew interface in the language tools.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 computer with Windows XP. A week ago my computer begin to restart randomly. A few days ago I noticed that after the computer restarted a black screen with white writing would appear. The error message would explain that "windows did not start successfully" "a recent hardware or software change may have caused this". "If the computer stopped responding or was automatically shut down to protect your files or folders choose last known good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked". There are several options to choose from like "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", "safe mode with command prompting", "last known good configuration (most recent settings that worked)" and "start windows normally". I would originally select "last known good configuration (most recent settings that worked)" and it would work. Now this option will not work. I did not install anything new on the computer.

Computer covers whole screen with either white, or white with black, and blue stripes. Multiple times a day.?
This computer was bought in 2005, (HP Media Center PC). Within the second week this freezing(it freezes, and the screen has a white or white with black and blue stipes) occured( yes second week, my brother was uninformed and thought it was normal and didnt return it. It happened often enough as to save anything you were working on every ten to twenty minutes on a bad day. It settled and slowly became less of a problem, then stoped. One day he got a virus and had to restore the computer, the freezing started up again. same as last time, it settled then stoped, a month later, i recieved this computer as a hand me down, as my brother went to college and got a MAC. That was in mid summer of 2008, a week and a half ago, i got a huge virus, i restored my computer, and the freezing started up again, after not doing it once for over a year. It has gotten as bad as freezing every 30 minutes some nights. And earlier today it froze, i turned off and on my computer, went down stairs, and when i came back it was frozen again. I had not even used and program. Please help if you have any idea whats wrong!
Things to keep in mind...
-It only happened after the computer was restored, or bought(ish)
-Its not a normal freeze where you see the programs on the screen still, the screen goes completely white, or white with black and blue stripes.
-4 years old

Thanks!

A:Screen Freezes and turns white or white with stripes

Then maybe it isn't freezing at all. Maybe there's a problem with your monitor, vga cable, or video card.

Try a different monitor/cable and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, then try reseating the video card--if any--and if that doesn't work I suggest getting a cheap one from someone's old pc at least to test with.

Installing a new video card can be complicated, but google search for a guide or follow the setup instructions for the video card to the letter and you'll have no problems.

I have the same problem. When turning on the laptop screen goes to white, I can hear windows starting but cannot see anything. I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded. I then took the whole laptop apart and discovered the LCD cable was frayed due to a faulty laptop hinge. I replaced the cable and it was the same, just white. The problem I think is with the motherboard and the intergrated video card. Upon taking the whole thing apart I noticed that where the video card plugs in is right where the heat sink is and the cooling fan which gets exceptional hot. I figure it has fried the board to the extend the monitor will not work where it is plugged in, but the external monitor will work but only when windows boots. So sad to say because of the the heat this laptop puts off and if you have it sitting on your lap or bed or anywhere else that it cannot cool properly it has over heated and you will have to get a new motherboard.

A:Laptop screen starts up white and stays white

"I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded"... This is normal behavior because the video signal to the external monitor is not sent until Windows loads. If you can see normal video, the motherboard video chip is good

Ever since I got this notebook, all I've had are problems, and HP has never been able to resolve a single problem. It's like the warranty is completely meaningless. They didn't even replace defective parts, let alone replace the entire notebook.I've had problems with the hard disk, and was told we can't solve this problem as this is a problem with every envy notebook.I've had a problem where dust is building up inside the screen (between the screen and the external glass cover), and I was told I need to send the notebook to the service centre (even though I have an "on-site, at home service warranty? for 3 effing years). This one time, one HP tech even told me "ENVY NOTEBOOKS DON'T SUPPORT VLC PLAYER, YOU MUST PLAY MULTIMEDIA USING WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER ALONE". NOW, I have a white line appearing on the top corner of the screen, and HP said I need to take a picture of the problem in the BIOS. The BIOS itself has a white background. How can I click a picture of a white line on a white background? If I write with white ink on a white paper, can anyone read it? I explained this precisely, and was told "Since the issue is not present in BIOS, we need to check if this can be covered in the warranty". WELL, THE ISSUE IS PRESENT IN THE BIOS, IT?S JUST THAT IT CANNOT BE SEEN AS IT?S WHITE ON WHITE, AND YOU WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS AND NOT REPLACE MY LCD? The issue is present in live linux USB sticks as well! All you need to reproduce it is a DARK BACKGROUND. ... Read more

For a couple days now I have had a problem with my office icons, and actually files with a PDF extension too. Here's a screen shot.

I think I accidentally deleted something in the cache, or whatever, and that's what caused this. I did some Googling online for a solution, but haven't come across anything that has actually worked. I'm just seeing things like right-click > open with > choose default program, and the like. I think I need something more robust. Can someone suggest a foolproof way of getting my missing icons back? This is a work laptop and as such I can't do a System Restore (disabled).

Thanks for the help!

I have read and tried many different suggestions, but I have no idea what is going on. The white on my dad's laptop is showing up with thin aqua vertical stripes in it. I have tried many different things (system restore, updating drivers, etc) and nothing has worked. The only thing that helped a little was when I calibrated it and it made the white in the window look white, but everything on the desktop that was supposed to be white, was not.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?

Thanks!

I have a new laptop with a gig of Ram and very few programs on it. It runs Vista. I've been building a huge mansion in Sims 2 (basic prog only) and it's run just fine. I have about 17,000 items of CC and it still ran fine.

Yesterday I discovered I could change some settings and make the picture more detailed so I did so. Things looked so much better but as I began having a display driver error message I figured I would see if mine needed updating. I had trouble finding the right one but finally did on the Gateway site. It said my driver is up to date.

Today I was testing out some new CC files and the game began crashing so I worked and found the bad files. The game was working ok.

I began slowly putting some of the files I had removed back in to be tested. I was trying to make it easier by renaming the downloads dir to downloads2 and making a new downloads dir.

At some point, and I can't recall exactly when, I began not even being able to load the game at all. I'd start it and before it even reaches the first screen I began getting this white box with a red box with a white X in it. Nothing else will happen.

1. First I removed the files I'd put into the new downloads dir. No change.
2. Then I deleted the dl dir and renamed the downloads2 dir back to downloads in case there was a conflict, though I couldn't imagine why there would be except they were in the same main directory. No change

This means that the problem has nothing at all to do... Read more
