Preferred Solution: Thinkpad T61 WIFI card switch.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Lenovo Thinkpad T420 wifi was woking earlier today.  I decided to turn off the wifi by switching it off with the switch on the right side of the laptop.  I tried switching it back on with the switch, but the wifi does not turn on.  I tried shutting it down and turning it back on but the wifi does not work.  I tried re-booting but that did not resolve the problem. I have checked the BIOS and the wireless radio seems to be on. Any suggestions?  How difficult is it to fix the switch?  Also, would it be possible just to use a USB wifi adapter as a substitute?

Hi everyone. I just acquired a Gen 3 X1 Carbon. When I got it, it had Windows 10 on it. I do not like Windows 10 at all so I replaced it with Windows 8, which I will upgrade to 8.1. However... The wifi card is not functioning. I installed every possible wifi driver (but not Sierra) and the wifi card is not even showing up as a connected device in Device Manager (see the attached screenshot).  I also noticed that ALT + F4 is not functioning either. I installed every other driver I can think of. Please help!

Hello everybody, I have a thinkpad S540 with an Intel Wireless-N 7260 since 1 year ago. As it happens with another users, sometimes the wifi does not work apropriately (the connection cannot be established), and I have to reboot to fix the problem. I have updated to WIndows 10, installed the lastest Intel Wireless drivers and the issue is not fixed. Besides, I noticed that my laptop has not wifi-ac (5 Ghz) capabilities. Therefore, my questions are the following: 1) Is it possible to replace the internal intel Wireless-N 7260 card for a faster -and more reliable- Wifi-ac card?(I have noticed that the user manual explain how to replace the intel Wireless-N 7260 card, but I assume that it means replacing a damaged card by another equal wireless-n 7260 card) 2) In replacement parts of lenovo S540 I have found the following Wifi card:"PN: 04X6010 2 Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11ac+BT4.0 HMC Module".Can I replace the internal wireless-n card by this one? Will it fit on my laptop? Must I add an additional antenna for 5 GHz band? How? 3) In internet seems to be another 3rd-party solutions more cheaper than PN 04x6010. Do you recomend some of them realiable for me? 4) If replacing is not feasible due to the lack of an 5 GHz antenna, another solution is to replace my intel wifi-n card by another more realible one (but also wifi-n). As many owners of a Thinkpad S531, I am not very happy with the Wifi performance of the built in Intel Centrino N 2230, especially after upgrading to Windows 10 (x64). What I have done so far: Turned of Bluetooth (Windows Connection center plus deactivating the device in the device managerTurned of the option Computer can disable the device to save energySet maximal performance / energy in the Windows energy settingsIf anybody knows more hints / tipps / tricks to get a better WiFi performance, I would appreciate to read about it. From the WiFi environment, there is a strong AVM Fritz Box router (450Mbps on 2.4 and 1.300Mbps on 5.0) next to an extending repeater (300/867 Mbps). Honestly, none of the device is facing a WiFi connection problem (iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, several Laptops and Wifi enabled devices). Could you, Lenovo support, provide me a list of compatible 2.4GHz/5GHz Wifi cards? If possible, a recommendation for a specific device would be great. Is there any guide for replacing the WiFi card? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone,i'll try to give the most details i can.I just bought a 2nd hand t470s, and started by reinstalling windows from a usb bootable win10 i had at home.Everything worked fine except for the wifi card : i dosnt show anywhere. i cant see it on the device manager, its not greyed out nor hidden. Everything up to date, from windows update, to single driver update from the device manager, the intel update tool or even all the lenovo support drivers.I finally asked the support for a clean win10 pro update using my serial number. reinstalled everything clean, but still no wifi card detected. I have a wireless router connected to my modem, and ALL PC's connect to that for internet.

I also have a gigabit switch I use to transfer data in between several of the machines. I do it quite often and I don't want it eating up the wifi bandwidth.
I have done it before, but it has been a long time and I cannot remember how I forced internet traffic over the wifi and local traffic through the switch
Is the only way to do it to specifically tell Windows to use the IP address of the LAN connection? I know it will work that way, forcing local traffic directly to that IP, but I seem to remember there being an easier way to do this.

Thanks.

I hope someone has crossed this issue and has a solution.

I have a Thinkpad 600e and use it in a situation where it needs constant power. I use it as a monitor for my summer home when we go on vacation, However, we have constant power outages and I want to have the laptop boot up automatically when power resumes and we are away. I don't rely on batteries and when I try to keep the power switch engaged (tape), it starts then shuts down.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

A:IBM Thinkpad 600e power switch issue...please help

Power switches usually rely on a momentary "on" connection to turn on. A continuous connection invokes a shutdown.
If there is no option under BIOS to restart on power restore, you need to make a pulse generator that provides a contact close on power up and hard wire it in.

Since installing Windows Updates on Jan 2, 2018 my TPYoga 12 has been giving BSOD's when waking from sleep. The message is "Attempted switch from dpc". It happens at least once a day now. Sometimes the next boot is successful, and sometimes it happens a second time after the system tries to reboot which then shows a diagnostic screen. Choosing to boot as normal from that diagnostic screen then does boot successfully. This is on a system running Win10 Pro V1709 build 16299.192.  I have seen one other user with a TPY12 report this recently (see post in german). Looking at many posts regarding this specific message over the years it seems to be related to a driver issue. Given the rather intense troubleshooting instructions for issues like these I'm hoping someone here has found a fix.  Below a screencap of my deteriorated system reliability.

Some more searching led me to this post stating that it's related to the Synaptics touchpad driver. Windows did install four Synaptics items the day before things went bad. I have uninstalled the touchpad driver in Device Manager, re-downloaded the driver package from Lenovo's driver page, and installed it. Let's hope this fixes it, and let's hope Windows doesn't "update" the driver again.  For the record, here are the updates that ran right before the problem appeared:

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and my apologies if I have posted in the wrong field with this query...

I have a customers Packard Bell Easynote MX37 laptop that I have installed Windows 7 on... Original OS Vista Home Premium.

The problem I am faced with is the WiFi switch.

The WiFi switch will activate itself on start up and enable wireless connection, but if the switch is pressed it disables wireless and stays disabled, no matter how many times switch is pressed. Once laptop is restarted it will become active again...

I am stuck on how to proceed with this problem and any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Did it work as expected with Vista? Maybe there is a Packard Bell WLAN utility you need to download from their web site? If no Windows 7 one maybe a Vista one that will still work.

Is the switch a toggle or slide switch?

So the wifi switch on my computer is broken off, although i am unsure how it happened. The places I have taken it to with questions have only told me expensive solutions for it such as having to replace the entire motherboard (which seems strange to me just because of one switch) anyways, I have wireless internet in my house, but cannot use it on my laptop so for anything that involves internet connection the laptop is useless. I also bought one of those netgear wireless usb adaptors and am still not able to get internet.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

A:Wifi Switch Not Working

I may be wrong but the wifi switch should not affect an external USB adapter. What were the issues you were having when you installed the Netgear Wireless USB? Did you disable the internal wifi adapter (either in Windows or BIOS) prior to installing?

Hi All,

I have a laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad) that is mounted in a docking station. In my house I have wifi, the docking station is connected to the router via hard LAN.

I have prioritized my connections to give preference to LAN over wifi (as I obviously prefer the fastest connection).

I was playing a game on my laptop and decided to switch from wifi to ethernet. I plugged in the ethernet and turned off the wifi switch to ensure it switched over, but later when I tried to turn wifi back on, I see the wifi on/off switch is grayed out.

I went to my device manager to check for wifi network adapter driver updates, but everything seemed pretty up to date.

Any recommendations on how to fix this? Or at the least another method of turning the wifi on, like through command prompt or something?

Thanks

A:WIFI on/off switch is grayed out

So to fix this what I did was hit the airplane mode key on my keyboard. The wifi switch in the pic I posted would stop being grayed out for about 5 seconds, and I had to switch it on in that time.

I'll note that flipping the airplane mode switch right above the wifi switch didn't do this, so I don't have a clue how it worked out.

I'm using a refurbished Latitude E5400 and for the most parts it's serving me well. I have just two issues with it. One is that it has a nasty habit of spontaneously switching off and then when I restart it the monitor comes on with extremely low brightness requiring me to restart it again at least once more in order to be able to see a normal display.
I'm not too worried about that for now because it's under warranty and as soon as I've finished a big piece of work I have to do over the next few weeks I'll be able to send it for repair and manage without it for a bit.
But the more immediate issue is that there is some sort of mechanical issue with the wifi switch. It tends towards keeping the wifi off unless I squeeze it really hard into the on position and make several attempts to let go such that wifi remains switched on. Wifi will go off again at less than a drop of a hat and it can be a real nuisance.
So my question is how much control that switch actually has. Does it control just one specific wifi adapter, or does it control whether or not the computer will use wifi at all? In other words, if I buy a USB wifi adapter without fixing the switch will the computer be able to access wifi through the USB adapter even when the switch is off?
Thanks for your help!

Hello @Banti2?, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I read your post about the Windows 10 upgrade, and wanted to assist you!You can use the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings: HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 upgrade for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. However, if you are able to get the WiFi and Bluetooth to work, using an external device, then you can continue to use Windows 10.  Keep in mind, that the rollback option is only good for the first 28 days, after installing Windows 10. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.Regards!

Hello I just bought a brand new computer 3 days ago. Haven't been using it that long. It's an HP Envy 810qe or something like that. The first day I played on it 77 windows updates were downloaded.

The computer has built in Bluetooth which I love but I noticed it was always-on and was wondering if there was an on/off switch. I searched Google and seen there is an on/off switch in PC Settings, PC Devices, Bluetooth. Unfortunately I do not have this. Also under PC Settings and Network I do not have an on/off switch for the wifi. I also don't have anything in PC Settings called Wireless. I talked with HP support (since I just bought this computer) their only option was to do a System Restore or Recovery. I talked to Microsoft support and their only option was to pay for a premium membership so they could use their 'advanced tools' to scan my system and find out the problem. (which is my long history of dealing with computers and support their answer would have probably been the same which was System Restore or Recovery, at which who even knows if this is going to fix the problem)

So now I come to this community my first time here (wave) asking for assistance. I temporarily disabled my Bluetooth in Device Manager because I don't know if it's safe to have it constantly on if I'm not using it. A:Bluetooth and Wifi no on/off switch in PC settings

Hi summerbear. I can try something that works on my MSI laptop (a great brand BTW), and I think most of todays' laptops.
Usualy there's an allin1 manager to all of the options you mentioned, and it is accessible through the start line in windows (at the bottom). Most of the time you don't see all the icons of programs running, and there's a little upward arrow in far right side of the start line, that if clicked reveals sound, storage, and allin1 managers installed in your system. In my laptop this manager program that includes control over volume, wi-fi, and bluetooth, is called SCM. I'm not sure that HP's has the exact same program but there's supposed to be some type of allin1. If you don't find any try typing "Bluetooth" in windows search (through the start button), and shutting down wi-fi is also possible by clicking the network bars in the far right, thus accessing the list of nearby wi-fi networks, choosing the one you're connected to, and clicking "disconnect".
Hope I helped, goodluck.
Amit.

If it is a slide switch and you broke off the part that sticks outside the case, you might be able to use a toothpick or other small stiff object to reach through the slot and slide it to the ON position.

Hi,
I run an Ethernet cable to my modem for my Windows 10 PC. But unfortunately I have a lot of drop outs where the internet just stops (something I am taking up with my provider) and I have a pocket wifi to use as a back up.

My PC can find the wifi and connect but the only way I can get it to connect is by pulling out the blue Ethernet cable from the actual pc. (When I say connect, I mean it is "connected" already but not in use, the small box appears for the ethernet cable rather than the wifi icon)

I would like to know if there is a way to either run the wifi simultaneously with the Ethernet cable plugged in or if there is a way to "turn off" the Ethernet connection from my pc when it goes down, so that I dont have to keep unplugging it.

I am not very technically minded and am worried if I go into advanced network settings etc that I might not be able to get the Ethernet working again once it is plugged in and back up and running.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

You can have both plugged in and still work. Each NIC is assigned a metric and the NIC with the lowest metric will be used. If in your are the wired NIC is still seen as available but in fact it's having problems the computer will still try and use it unless you unplug the cable. If your computer supports a feature called LAN/WLAN switching that may work in your case that may work or may suffer from the same problem in which the wired NIC is still detected as connected and it won't switch. If you are only having an issue with the wired connection why not just stay on wireless?

Hi folks, I have a ThinkPad S3 Yoga 14 20DM003RGE and I suspect that a switch or sensor is defective. In the BIOS the keyboard works without problems and when installing Windows the touchpad also works. After installing Windows 10, neither the keyboard nor the touchpad works in Windows itself. The switch or sensor that deactivates the keyboard in tablet mode is obviously defective. Now I'd like to know how to disable this switch in Windows so that the keyboard and touchpad work again. In other words, the keyboard should be enabled in notebook mode and in tablet mode. Does anyone know which registry entry disables the keyboard and touchpad in tablet mode? Or how can I reactivate these components?I'd also like to know exactly where this switch is so I can replace it later. Best regards

Hello! I bought a second hand Lenovo T430s, and I have a problem with it. The wifi switch seem to have some problem, even if i switch it on, the laptop says it's turned off. My question is, is there a way to "bypass" the physical switch, or can i get a replacement somewhere?

I have a Toshiba satellite L350D 01M laptop. My warranty period is over and I wanted to clean out the fans etc... and I have taken apart many laptops in the past but man it was hard to get all the connectors from the keyboard etc hooked up without unplugging another one because of the lack of wiggle room, how the guys at Toshiba put them together i will never know anyway i finally managed to get them all hooked up and the case back together but the wifi radio switch next to the SD slot was not aligned properly and rather than go through the nightmare of hooking it all back up again i forced the switch a little too much well actually a lot too much as i busted the dang thing right off.

so now i can't switch on the wifi which ain't that bad for home 'cause i have a wired modem but when i am out and about i need the wifi capability. someone suggested bridging the two connections i can see inside (a guy at staples) but that if it did work each time i shut it down i would have to bridge it again, well I tried that and I did something wrong as the whole system shut off like a lightening bolt and i thought i fried the motherboard as i couldn't get it to turn on, but i unhooked the battery unplugged and held down the power button for ten seconds then i plugged it back in minus the battery and luckily it worked, there is no way i am going to try that again and if i don't have to (i can't afford it anyway) is there anyway i can bypass the hardwire switch... Hi guys, I have a strange problem with one Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E145 notebooks. At first I was not able to start in windows the wireless but after multiple uninstall/install/update of the drivers I managed to do it. Still Windows shows WiFi on but in the same time off and I can't see any WLAN networks. The windows diagnose of the WLAN adapter shows - wireless capability is turned off The Lenovo Diagnostic Tools shows - Warning Hardware state is off I've checked BIOS, check the settings of the card and I don't have a hardware switch on the notebook. Is there any way that I could "reset" this lock or enable it somehow? Thanks in advance I forgot to add that the notebook is with Windows 10 64bit and there are not much apps and drivers for it.

I have a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit on my L500-13T(PSLJ3E) .

Everything works, except the Fn keys, so I can not turn the WiFi on or off (also BlueTooth).

What software provides that functionality? I installed the "Flashcards" , but see no difference.

Is there another way to enable or disable WLAN and BT?

Regards,
David

Hi,

I think I know what I want, but I just wanted to check before I splashed the cash and made the wrong choice!

I have a Humax Freesat recorder and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player. Both of which have services that need internet access, but neither are WIFI enabled & are the wrong side of the room to be connected via cabled ethernet.

I believe that what I need is to wireless access point? I'd like one with a built in switch as well, as most seem to only come with only one port. The one I found has four, which would be useful as I could replace the poor wireless Xbox 360 dongle.

The one I was looking at was http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004JV42A0/sr=1-1/qid=1325091993/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1325091993&sr=1-1&seller=. This seems very cheap.

Can anyone tell me if this will do what I want & whether there is anything better without spending a fortune?

Many thanks in advance
Tom
