2 things happened after Windows update 2 on June 10th, 2013

Q: 2 things happened after Windows update 2 on June 10th, 2013

I have a Dell Inspiron with a Core i5 CPU.

I am running Windows 7 Home - 64 bit.

I have McAfee Anti-Virus Software.

My computer has 2 issues that appeared after a Windows update.

My IE 10 will not start. It flashes a Screen momentarily and shuts down.

Second issue - can not shutdown computer. Restarts when I try to shutdown.

Don't know if issue is Windows update or something else.

Device drivers appear to be OK.

Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Welcome to Sevenforums,

Maybe first, see to uninstall the IE10 updates kb2838727 & kb2859903 from the Programs & Features => show installed updates.

Try uninstall the flash player (see if it works after), then updating flash player to v 11.7.700.224 to the latest.

You could also run the System Update Readiness Tool

Good morning.
Not sure if there's an issue or not but wanted to post since I didn't see any other Member's had posted anything similar with the latest Java Update.
Both me and the wife got the prompt to update Java; she got hers last night  and I got mine this morning.
We're both running Windows 7 and we both have disable Java content in our browsers anyway but we like to stay updated and/or patched, so we downloaded the latest offering  (and declined the Free McAfee Security Scan, thank you very much )  and just as it appeared to complete the process, we both received this pop up:
Sorry about the pic size...still haven't *quite* figured out the best way to insert a pic in these Forums.
So I did a quick check on both our machines and we're both running Version 7 Update 25, which appears to be the latest, according to the Test Java version via the Java website...but it also shows that it was installed on March 18th of this year.
So I Googled the main phrase of the pop up but that only lead me to any number of technical articles that were  way  beyond my pay grade.
Also, in our Control Panel, it shows the Java version to be 32-bit although both our machines are 64-bit.
So, is something amiss?
Should I uninstall both versions and reinstall only the 64 bit versions?
Should I curse the names of all who work at Oracle?

I tried posting on the Intuit forum which is a waste of time so far. They read file paths and names as "posting personal information or credit card numbers" so it is hard to ask for help when I cannot explain in detail all that has been tried so
far. I get carbon copy macro type responses that to me show they did not read what i posted. On my own, out of desperation, I found one thread there talking about Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2 where you have to turn off Base Filtering Engine. IF I turn
off Windows Firewall and then turn off Base Filtering Engine, then the Windows Firewall stops blocking access, and I can log in to the company file hosted on this computer, from the other one on  the network. There are only two computers on the network,
this one where the file is hosted running Windows 7 Pro, and the other running Windows 7 home. We upgraded to Quickbooks Pro 2018 about 10 days ago, and it went fine, not one problem. May 9th we had no trouble connecting to the company file. Windows updated
May 10th, and on May 11th, this problem started. Quickbooks has a nice long list of files to grant access on specific ports, and I have manually entered them more than once, starting over, to try and fix this with no luck. They were all there already, so it
seemed pointless, but I tried anyway, deleting the rules, and entering them again. I even went so far as to uninstall the Windows Update KB4096418, and it made no difference. Looking now I see yesterday... Read more

I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my computer and had it up to date on all of the Windows updates. I also have Windows Vista installed on another drive on the computer.
I was using it earlier and it suddenly blue screened at random. I was just browsing Reddit or something when it happened.
Once it blue screened I couldn't get it to work again. The error code it gave me was 0x000000e for both my Windows 7 install and Vista install (both were working fine before this blue screen).
I got on my laptop and downloaded the system repair and put it on a disc. I ran it on my desktop (the computer having issues) and it repaired the boot issues. However, on the Windows 7 install I can get to the login screen and log in now, but it will spend about a minute or two sitting at the 'Preparing your desktop' message before coming up with a screen with nothing but a teal background and in the bottom right it says this:

Windows 7
Build 7600
This copy of Windows is not genuine

It is a legitimate copy and has worked fine for a year before this happened. The background looks like this minus the taskbar and icons: http://www.guidebookgallery.org/pics...win2000pro.png

The Vista install seems to work fine now though. However, I cannot access the drive that has Windows 7 installed on it from Vista anymore. If I try opening it, it will say 'Access Denied'.
Also, the drive letter for Windows 7 changed after running the repair. It was originally drive letter G but it has been changed to F.

Help, I'm stinking in windows xp upgrade quicksand!

I have repeatedly tried to install the following windows xp upgrade without success: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

Each time it has failed. I have gotten the following error code messages:

Error Code: 0x8007064C

Please show me how to fix this. I have searched multiple times the internet for solutions none of them work. They are suppose to be critical and there are a much more upgrades that apparently require this one to be installed first. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Urgent - Windows 7 Update Service Update June 19 2012

I called Microsoft just now.
They established a remote session directly to my PC.
After verification that my OS is legit etc. they had a look at this.

They recommend that I reinstall Windows from one of their ISO images
and not from the HP recovery partition.

The guy said he wouldn't trust that update as there is the information link

I only can do what he says, downloading that 3 GB ISO and burn the DVD
and reinstall Windows.

So, if you get the SAME looking update, my advise is as his.
Don't install that update.

I did a restart, logged in and screen remained blank. I tried to restart several times and had the same problem. Finally I did a system restore and booted okay. I then deleted all files and folders in Windows/SoftwareDistribution and changed the windows update setting to not check for updates because I didn't want the update to apply after any restarts. How should I go about fixing the problem so I can get and install updates. Any help would be appreciated and sorry for being long-winded.

A:June Windows 8.1 update caused desktop not to display

I have the exact same problem after installing the updates. I noticed that explorer.exe didn't start on my computer. If I start it manually it does show up in de task manager but nothing else happens.
Edit: I've added a screenshot of the updates.

Edit2: I have installed all the updates except for KB2969339 on a different windows and I didn't experience any problems. So KB2969339 seems to be the one causing all the trouble. You can rightclick on the update in the update list and click hide to hide it so you never accidentally install it again. However, I don't know anything about computers so I don't know if doing that will cause more problems later on.

About this update:
This article describes a microcode update for Intel processors that are running Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

Did the Intel Microcode Update Revision number for Ivy bridge was "17" before?

I can't recall properly as now it shows: Microcode Update Revision "1B"...

A:Windows 10 Update: June 27, 2017—KB4022716 (OS Build 15063.447)

Today isn't Patch Tuesday, but Microsoft still released cumulative updates for all versions of Windows 10. The firm seems to be doing it twice a month now, as the last set of builds arrived on June 13.

As usual, there are no new front-facing features. Instead, all of these updates focus on various fixes.

If you're on the Creators Update, you'll see build 15063.447, or KB4022716. You can download it from the Microsoft Update Catalog here.
This is what got fixed:
Addressed an issue introduced by KB4022725 where Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge printing from a frame may result in 404 not found or blank page printed.
Addressed issue where network printers may fail to install when using the printer vendor?s setup software on machines with less than 4 GB of RAM. These printers will install properly if you install using the Settings app or from Devices and Printers in Control Panel.
Addressed issue that causes high memory usage for the Camera app on mobile platforms, which reduces battery life. Any app that uses a media capture element (MCE) or media element (ME) and plays 1080p will consume a lot of power, which will significantly reduce battery life.
Addressed issue where, after updating to the Creators Update, devices that have Receive Segment Coalescing (RSC) enabled have significantly low wireless throughput.

I had been away and when I came back and turned on the computer it had downloaded several new updates. I have windows 7 home premium 64 bit running Internet Explorer 9. I have been dealing with this issue trying foolishly by myself to fix it by doing several system restores and uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 .. only to find that 8 does fix the problem but I cannot reinstall 9 anymore so I have to do a restore to get 9 back.

Anyway, Gadgets do not work properly. CPU monitor shows the thing moving but no numbers. Calender Gadget just shows orange or white square.

My AOL cannot look on the web anymore (I only use it for an old email but found that my emails couldn't display properly either.)

And to really seal the deal.. windows help does not display properly either.

Internet Explorer 8 makes everything work again but I like 9 which this update on top of 9 screws my windows user account up. A guest account or a new account do not have these issues.

I am sorry for the long post but I would appreciate any help as I have been staring at this screen for many many hours straight. No old system restore will fix it. No SFC scan, etc.

A:Windows June update - broken gadgets, windows help and more

Hello plastisman and welcome to Seven Forums.

With IE9 installed, do you see those June updates listed in the Windows Update History? If yes, you could try to uninstall them and see if your computer works properly. If it does, reinstall the June updates one or two at a time then use your computer for a while. If everything still works correctly install the next couple of updates. If the machine suddenly stops working you've narrowed down which of the updates might be the problem.

You could also try running a System File Checker scan to see if any files were damaged or corrupted by the June updates. If the scan finds any problems, run it 3-4 times as some file may not be fixed on the first or even second go-around due to dependencies (for example, file C may have to wait for file B to be fixed and file G may have to wait for file C to be fixed.)

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Dell Inspiron 1420 - Windows Vista Home Premium - Intel Core 2 Duo CPU [email protected] 1.66GHz - 2.00 GB Ram

Seems like every day since I bought this pc in Feb something has gone wrong. For the first four months I received every blue screen error that is possible. Sometimes two or three times a day. I had been trying to download all of the Windows updates but they kept failing. I then started trying them one at a time and I managed to get them all done. After that it seemed like the blue screens were gone. I was thrilled.

Then I became aware of the SP1 for Vista and it hadn't been applied to my pc when I bought it so I stupidly decided to download it. I did a system restore point before downloading. I started the download and went to bed, when I got up there had been an error with the process. I tried to do the system restore and there was an error with that and I couldn't go to any point beyond the current day.

Now all kinds of things started happening. I couldnt access my security program CA Internet Security Suite, it would just freeze and I would have to do a cntrl-alt-del to end it. I couldn't open hyperlinks on web pages, I couldn't open any thing that needed an active X, then I started getting "The pipe state is invalid" errors and couldn't open some programs. The next day that error changed to "The service cannot accept control messages at this time." I have tried using "Run as Administrator" and that doesnt wo... Read more

I tried opening a Norton uninstaller program from their site, but that wouldn't open either, because it said I needed to do something with a set associations panel for the file type. The file type is .exe. I don't really know what I should do right now but I hope that you can help

Also, system restore doesn't work. I set it to a month before, but I still can't open my shortcuts and apparently Microsoft Office doesn't exist anymore and I'm concerned for my computer and if I need to take it to some repair center in best buy cause I don't have the CDs for reinstalling Vista

Reboot the computer.

If the fix only opens as a text file, right-click it and select Open With > Choose Program... Then, select the Registry Editor.

If the Registry Editor is not in the list, browse to C:\WINDOWS and select regedit.

Yesterday I've been informed by ma bank that unauthorized transaction was probably held on my account via credit card. Logged onto my account and found 200 EUR missing. After being into computers world for like 10 years it's not something you'd like to happen. You hear and read about it but don't expect it to happen to yourself... Anyway it did and now I want at least know how could it happen.
I was using avira for a long time but to be honest I didn't fully scan my laptop for a period of time. Yesterday I downloaded Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 (trial) which is "advised" by my bank's support. So, it found stuff like that:
Trojan.Win32.StartPage.cdus (I guess related to web browsers content changing)
Trojan.Win32.Staser.fv (that's the one i am a bit scared of as for now...)
also some little guy named AdWare.Win32.D365.a
And here's my question. Is any of these 3 above able to send my credit cards or bank account details to "third party" people? As far as I'm concerned Staser can.
If not - I guess the main reason of my money lost is that I entered credit card details on some unauthorized website (what to be honest i can't remember eh).
Well, it's too late to "heal" my laptop, I am surely going for total formatting of all HDD and re-installing OS. But if you can give me more details about what I found on it and if it could be the reason - thank you.
with regards!

A:So it happened... Money is gone, found some nasty things on my laptop

Yes, Staser could be the culprit that robbed you.
If you had info for your bank and credit card such a link to the sites and passwords to those sites saved on your comp then
that could be how they got your info to rob you.
Any and all passwords and accounts including such as email have likely been compromised/ stolen and you should change all
using a different computer.
Many take the extra step of using a Linux Live CD or Flash Drive to do financial transactions on. The safest way known today.
A bit inconvenient but as you found out, obviously worth it.
Keep in mind that Kaspersky may not of found all the malware on your computer. Seldom does one security program do that and
often they all miss....especially if it was recently released into the wild.
Doing a clean install, as you intend, is the best way to be sure you removed all of the malware.

So I turned off my PC overnight, when I woke up today instead of welcoming me in my, screen also said: Prepairing your desktop. Next thing I know my entire desktop files and folders were deleted and my background is black (happens everytime I turn on my
PC now). I still have all of my files, but programs like fraps which has full and demo version got set to demo version even though I've been using the full version for over 2 years. Same thing with PS CS6 and Blender. Also another stupid bug, my google font
has changed, it used to be very neat and now it sucks, it's font is very thin and pixely and I don't know how to fix it.
So did anyone else get this problem?
Is there an easy fix so I can go back to my old version (a.k.a. the way it was yesterday)?

This week's Windows updates include an update to MSE. If you are using MSE and find that there is a update that is taking a very long time to install, check the Taskbar for an icon asking permission to update MSE. Keep clicking on through the Wizard and then the updates will finish.

Hi there,
Wondering if you could please help me..
I have just updated to Windows 8.1 but seem to have hit a launch error when starting SimCity from Origin Online. I did not have this problem prior the update to windows 8.1. My graphics are AMD Radeon HD 7600M series. I have tried updating the graphics drivers but they are all up to date. As the Windows was already installed on my laptop when I purchased it I cannot revert back to windows 8..
The first error message I get when click play from origin is "SimCity has stopped working" and seconds after is says "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I get the SimCity logo when I first try to run it but never launches correctly.
I am running the following
HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC, Windows 8.1 64-bit, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz, 8GB at 2 x 4GB SODIMM Samsung 1600MHz, Graphics 1 Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000, Graphics 2 AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series both are 1366 x 768 Res with refresh rate 60, Audio are Intel(R) Display Audio and IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.
Hope that all makes sense,
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

A:Simcity 2013, Windows 8.1 Update

you could try running the program in compatibility mode, or try even reinstalling it as well.

A:Windows trying to update Office 2013 that is not installed on PC

Hi Try Settings, Updates, Windows Updates, Advanced Options and disable 'Give me updates for other MS products...'

However you may actually want this function now or later, so this does not address the underlying trigger for these updates.
Have you ever had a version - or this version- installed e.g. as a trial packaged with the PC?

Of course you can scan the registry for Office entries (try Nirsoft's Regscanner), but there's no certainty there.

I'm on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.

I have Office 2013 Professional Plus.

Whenever I check Windows Update for updates, it never seems to bring up updates for Office.  I assume there have been at least some updates to Office 2013 since it was released?

My Windows Update screen tells me:

"You receive updates: For Windows only."

When I click the "Find out more" to get updates for other MS products, all that happens is the IE opens up on a page that says "Use your Start menu to check for updates"

So... how do I get Windows Update to check for updates to Office 2013?  I feel very confused--I mean, shouldn't I be able to set Windows Update to check for updates for a whole host of MS programs (Silverlight, .NET, Office, etc.)?
I've tried changing the Windows Update settings to include other Microsoft products but there's no option to do so when I check.

Any insight would be appreciated! Someone recommended I ask here because I'm on Windows 7 Enterprise.

A:Windows Update won't find updates for Office 2013?

So the thing that finally worked was installing Silverlight, which apparently can force Windows Update to include/adopt Microsoft update.  Once that was installed, Windows Update recognized a huge number of Office updates.

Why no other avenues to make the Microsoft Update option show up and get it "switched on" worked is totally beyond me.

Last night I opted to install a major update to Windows 10. This took over an hour to install with several restarts. After the update I noticed that the search function in Outlook 2013 wasn't working, but by checking with Search Tools I found that the index was being slowly rebuilt, so I left the computer running with Outlook open. Coming back to the PC nine hours later, I found this message on a small window in front of Outlook: 'We're sorry, but Outlook has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Outlook will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?' There are three buttons: Repair Now (pre-selected), Help and Close. Clicking on Repair closes Outlook; clicking on Help takes one to a Microsoft Office forum, on which only account-holders may ask a question; and Close closes Outlook. Clicking on the x at top right of the small window closes Outlook too. Re-opening Outlook produces the same small window in front of Outlook, and the Outlook screen does not respond to clicks anywhere. I have Avast free anti-virus running.

I have run Offcat and the report says there are five warnings. Two appear under 'Application not responding' and the same two appear under 'Slowness'. Here are the details of the first:

Severity: Warning
Title: Outlook is slow to close due to the RequireShutdownNotification registry value (under HKLM)
Description: RequireShutdownNotification=1 for the 'avast.AsOutExt' add-in under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Soft... Read more

I understood MS would release a final update in June 2020 before going end-of-support in jan 2020.
But, almost August and no update in sight, according to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/advanced-threat-analytics/ata-versions
So, when can we expect this update (if at all)?

Update 493 available. Added detection of new virus Worm/Mofeir and new variant of I-Worm/Sobig - I-Worm/Sobig.E.
- June 25, 2003 -

A:AVG update 25 June Sobig-E

Kaspersky Labs noted this Sobig worm is new in it's use of zipped files:
Separating Sobig.e from its four predecessors is its use of the Zip file format, what it does after system infection is virtual identical to past Sobig variants. Sobig.e getting around as a Zip file is a significant twist because while company gateways often filter out potentially dangerous file formats such as .exe, .vbs and .scr files, the .zip format is rarely scrutinized by businesses. Indeed past Sobig variants would have usually never made it past company gateways.

I recently updated my windows XP home edition and afterwords many of the functions do not work as they should. The problems are as follows: Cut and paste, Audio, can not send and receive e-mail, programs do not show in the task bar, can not click and drag items on the desktop, have to use the task manager to change between open applications, add remove programs within the control panel and many more. I read a thread posted by another user that had similar problems and have had no luck in fixing the issues. I have run AVG scan and found only cookies. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
