But I get the bluescreen with the error:

The driver to the printer Canon Pixma ip4500 should work with Vista x64.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Spiderfreak!

Here is a link to Canon website for the latest Canon driver. Just pick your printer from the list then choose the OS (Vista x64) and download/install. Hope this helps.

Since you did not specify you got your driver from their website I figured I'd look.

I'm trying to print color photos on plain paper. My computer is an iMac Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.4.11, and my printer is a Canon Pixma ip4500. On the screen the color appearance is excellent, but when I print the color is oversaturated, which wastes ink and makes the images look garish. I know that I can manually adjust the color saturation when I go to print, but the preview appears considerably paler than the printout. Can I change the default settings so the printout matches what is shown on the screen? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Excessive color saturation in Canon Pixma ip4500

Matching the colors on your screen to what actually prints out from your printer is one of the hardest things to do in the world of photo printing. Hardware/software combos like those from Spyder and Huey exist because of this problem. You can attempt to change the settings on your printer by changing a setting, printing a sample, changing a setting, printing a sample, etc (like myself and many others have done to get as best as we could), but be prepared to delve pretty deep into your printer's settings and waste some paper/ink in the process.

I bought this printer a few months ago and almost after buying it lines keep showig up in my prints. Yes I have had the printer clean the head twice and it barely improves. For black and white images there are no lines, just on the colored ones. The lines show up more in the special canon matte paper, but when printing on my left over 22 HP paper I can hardly see the lines. I appreciate the help!

btw this is printing from an iMac G5 OSX 10.4.1

Hi folks,

Not a newbie to PC's but I am new to Win 7!

I want to install my Canon Pixma iP4500, but the Canon website lists no drivers for Win7. It is listed as compatible in the MS Compatibility checker.

Do I take it that I just connect the printer and wait for Windows to find a driver?

I presume that if it does, it will give me the same printer functionality as it did in Windows XP? Or do I need to install one of the "add-ons" in the Canon website?
Best regards

John

Hi,

I'm using a Canon iP4500 with a Windows 7 PC. When I try to print (either onto paper or onto a CD), I get the following error:

"Document printing cannot be executed because the paper output tray is closed. Open the paper output tray. Printing will restart."

The output try opens OK, although it does seem that the hinge on the right is damaged (it takes more force to close it then it used to and it opens a little further than the left one).

Does anyone know how I can correct the problem or disable the error?

Thanks,
Joe

Hello,

I am considering buying the Canon IP4500 printer. Does the IP4500 force you to have all the ink tanks to be at some level in order to print? I mostly print black and white, and I still want to print if the color tanks are empty. Also, this printer forces you to buy Canon ink. Does refilling the ink tank reset the ink monitoring software?

Thanks.

A:Question on Canon IP4500 printer

I have just purchased the IP4500 and I must so far I am very impressed with it.
Here in the UK you can purchase chipped non Cannon ink ( have not tried them yet though)
If you are just using black ink then this printer is kinda wasted as it is an excellent photo and cd /dvd printer.
I was also amazed at its ability to print on both sides of the paper
I have had other printers with individual tanks and when one is empty just change it, I assume this printer will be the same

Hi, since getting a Canon ip4500 inkjet a few months ago I have had twenty-odd BSODs when printing normal stuff from Word, Firefox etc - always when printing and no other time.

I have attached the debugs of these minidumps, the Event Logs, basic system info and running processes info - please let me know if more info is needed. At time of BSOD the logs generally show eventlog, savedump, dchp and possibly print events.

I had McAfee security suite for the earlier BSODs, and changed (properly removing McAfee) to Kaspersky hoping this would fix it - it didn't. The Canon ip4500, a Netgear DG834 router/modem and an Epson Perfection v350 scanner are the main peripherals.

Any advice much appreciated!

Just got a Canon ip4500, and all I want it to do is print a single copy in the correct order, title page on top, so I don't have to re-sort it.

In Printing Preferences > Page Setup > Copies I have ticked Print from Last Page - but it prints title page first. I have ticked Print from Last Page and Collate - but still it prints title page first.

It seems ridiculous that the printer is not set to print in order as default - this is what most people want most of the time. How can I do this please?

Cheers

Hi,

I'm using Windows 7, Photoshop CS4 and a Canon iP4500 printer. I've just tried printing a couple of photos using 4" x 6" glossy photo paper in high quality with borderless printing. Both came out with white flecks all over them.

I've scanned one of the photos and uploaded it to here:

I've tried all the cleaning options under "Maintenance", but they don't seem to help.

Please can someone suggest what I need to do to stop this from happening?

I tried cleaning the contacts on the print head with isopropyl alcohol, but it didn't help.

Please can someone suggest how I can get it working again?

Thanks,

A:Canon iP4500 Print Head Problem

Likely failed. Remove and reinstall. Power off/on.

Aside from that, time for a new printer.

I just had to replace the same printer a few weeks ago. A replacement print head is $99. A new printer of equal/better quality was only $120.

While they released Windows 8 drivers for many of their printers, I've been told from Canon that they will not support this one. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself, could somehow help me try to "grab" the driver from a Windows 7 installation? On 7, the installation procedure for full driver support is this: let Windows install its own driver, and then install the "Printer Driver Add-On Module Ver.2.00" which you can download (and extract) here. Both x86/x64 versions available, and of course I have a Win7 PC which I can use.

I manually tried to update the driver and point to the extracted folders of the add-on module but it doesn't work, because Windows 8 looks for the printer but can't find it, since Win 8 will not even support and install basic functionality.

Thanks a lot... it's just a pity to throw away a printer like that.

update: Well, I've received a follow-up from Canon and they will release a driver at some point. Good news.

A:Help with Canon ip4500 printer, officially unsupported

That's good news! Pretty sure I read somewhere that some users have successfully installed the Vista printer driver package under Win 8 and got it up and running. if that's the case, then the Win 7 drivers should also work.

I have a Canon i850 printer which I have immensely enjoyed using these past four+ years. For one thing, I've never had even one paper-jam during that time.

My understanding always has been that it is best to have separate components, so that's why I've always owned a dedicated printer. However, it appears that the present-day trend is more toward all-in-one units. Actually, I'm in the market only for a printer, but if the Canon MP600 all-in-one is technologically advanced far beyond my i850, then I would strongly considering buying one.

The MP600 has a scanner (which I don't need, although it would provide me with a back-up) and it has several modern features of convenience which my i850 doesn't have. What I would especially like to know is whether or not the MP600 produces appreciably better results with both text and photos than my i850. Also, would it be faster and cheaper in the long run than the MP600? While quality of results is more important than anything else, speed, economy, and convenience also enter into the equation.

(I was also considering the Canon PIXMA iP6700D photo printer, but from what I've read so far it appears that the MP600 all-in-one is more highly-regarded.)

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has an opinon on this matter. Thank you very much.

I updated my driver for this printer in order to use it with a new VISTA computer. In doing this, my XP laptop, can no longer use this printer. Is there a simple solution to this?

A:Canon pixma MP 780

Updating drivers usually doesn't affect the hardware itself. Its strange that it simply stopped working because you installed vista drivers on another computer. My Pixma was simply a plug-and-play from my vista desktop to my XP laptop.

Can you provide more detail? Does the computer detect the printer but it simply doesn't print? Or is the printer undetected completely? Maybe you could try uninstalling then installing new drivers for it.

I use Canon Pixma printer with Windows 7. When I want to scan and e-mail the colours of my computer change radically. I cannot get a full picture reproduced either. Only part of it is reproduced. I had to do a system restore to get the computer to remove the ugly colours. This is the second time that it happened. Please help.

A:Canon Pixma

As regards not being able to reproduce a complete picture, try reducing the 'PPI' setting in your scanner software prior to scanning. Whilst 300 ppi is considered the optimum setting for photo scans which you intend to print, that's way too high for an email. Try scanning at 150 ppi or even 100 ppi if it's only for an email attachment.

The scanning time will then be much shorter and there will only be half as much data for the PC to cope with (compared to scanning at 300 ppi).

followed by all my regular HDs (3 in all).

Is this normal under VISTA? I ask as I have some problems with certain USB-attached devices, and am trying to isolate the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Bought a Canon MP 750 on Wednesday. Seems to print well, but not happy with the results of walk up copy and also scan to computer/print.

Original printing from the computer, print alignment, print nozzle checks etc are all OK. It seems there is a problem with the scanning - copies come out significantly less colour intense, at times with bits even missing from the copy.

Rang Canon for support and returned machine to store on Friday & got a second one. It seems to fare no better.

At this stage I will be ringing Canon again on Monday - but in the meantime I'm interested to hear from anyone else with this machine.

Can anyone tell me what happens when you select the copy button, and then "colour"? Do you get the following message:

Colour copying......

or do you get

Scanning.....

followed by a request for the next page or to click OK to exit?
This then followed by

Colour copying....

as above?

The reason I ask is that on the first machine we only ever got "colour copying" followed by the scan and the print out.

On the second machine, the first two times we did a copy it gave us the scan message on the display first, followed by the copy message. However from the third copy on it has always only ever been "colour copying...."

If I use the software to scan into the computer I can set different scanning resolutions....but when I print out I don't see any marked improvement.

The above was using the image quality "normal&q... Read more
