Preferred Solution: Computer is Freezing Is Freezing When Opening any Program.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I tried including all 4 requested logs, but I will have to add a second post to this one as they grossly exceeded the allowable character limit.

I have a virus that started about the same time I downloaded IOBit malware. The program auto-installed a toolbar called Spigot. There was no toolbar on any of my browsers and it was not listed in control panell programs. I had no idea it was there. When my computer began slowing down, freezing, browsers becoming unresponsive then starting back up again on their own, as well as my fan going bezerk wether the comuter was being used or not led me to suspect a problem. My anti-virus began to go off by itself saying it had blocked a malicious website-the name of the websites were a collection of about 100 numbers and letters. My virus was contacting the internet and trying to update itself? <br />
<br />
I checked for add-ons and extensions on my browsers with no luck, checked list of programs, then went into C drive and there I found a mysterious program called Spigot. I tried to unistall it, which it wouldnt let me as it was running in the background. Task manager had no knowledge of this program running therefor I still couldnt uninstall it. I downloaded a freeware program that came with a more in depth version of task manager, and when I ran that program sure enough I found Spigot running. I canceled the process and tried to unistall again. It was still running in background. Research told me to use system configurat... Read more

Dear forum,

All day long it's a struggle to get my computer to work normally. The problem is that, when I open facebook to log myself in, the entire computer freezes. The same happens when I try to play a certain browser game from KABAM. Other websites work perfectly, including youtube and webcasting sites.

The problem does not lie with Google Chrome, cause the exact same thing happens when I use Opera or IE. So it's not about my extensions. I also tried shutting down my ZoneAlarm Extreme Security, didn't help neither. The only moments when it sometimes seems to work is when I start my computer, erase computer and browser history through both CCleaner and chrome itself, restart my computer and try to log into facebook through a different login page. But it only works after my computer has been running for a few hours. And even that doesn't guarantee that it would work.

Nothing works anymore when it freezes, including CTRL+ALT+DEL and buttons don't light up anymore when i hover over them with my mouse. When there's sound playing, it plays for another 4 seconds after the computer froze and then it stops too. That's all the info I can give you. I honestly don't know what to do. I ran a scan with Trend Micro Housecall, it didn't detect any viruses.

It's been going on for a few days now.

If it's a specific website on no matter which browser, maybe it's something with Java or ActiveX or whichever plugin it uses? It's the only thing I could think of, but normally they... Read more

Hi,
I have recently developed a problem. There are two programs that I have found so far that will freeze my computer when open them, Matlab and Visual Basic 6.0 Working Model.I have homwork due ! yikes.. I uninstalled VB the last bout and re-installed it and it worked wor about a week. Matlab I just discovered it today. I tried 4 or 5 times to open the applications but with the same result. I am not sure what is happening, It is strange because tose two applications were the most recent installations. I also have Autocad 14 which I installed last year and it booted up fine. Is there a problem with an initialization script? Virus? I am at a complete loss.

Thanks in advance.

A:(Solved) Computer Freezing when opening certain applications

JB,
What version of Windows are you using?

Try shutting down anything running in the background. Do a Ctrl-Alt, Delete, to display the Task List. End Task on all except Explorer and then try starting your applications.
If you have Windows 98, you can use MSConfig.exe to do the same thing. Run MSConfig.exe and select the Startup tab, uncheck all the entries and reboot.

Hey I'm sorta new here, so I don't know what kind of information I should be providing, but I'll do my best at explaining my current situation.

So yeah I went on vacation to China for 6 weeks, during which the computer that is broken had not been used. After I get back, I decide to burn some music onto a dvd disc. When I put in the disc, I realized that I had already put some files on there, so I decided to use windows to erase the disc. After about an hour of no progress, I decided to cancel it, only to get the message that windows explorer had stopped working. I thought, alright, no big deal, I could just start it again. But this time, I could not even open the My Computer section without it freezing again. (Note: I did not open My Computer prior to starting the disc erasing process, so I do not know if it was the disc that caused it or if it was something else.)
The weird thing is though, that this only happens when I try to do anything related to My Computer. I can access my documents fine, it's only when the My Computer section is specifically opened that Windows explorer freezes. I tried opening My Computer up in Safe Mode and initially had the same problem, but after I decided to type C:\ into the address bar, I could get into My Computer fine. When I tried that in standard Windows boot mode though, it still did not work.

I do not believe that it is a problem with my hard drive or my disc drive, as I have xplorer2 lite and that can access everyth... Read more

Hello guys!

I'm having some major problems with my computer. I was playing a game (stronghold kingdoms), opened a battle report to see the battle, and my computer froze.Mouse wouldn't move, ctrl+alt+delete wouldn't work.
Only solution was the reset button. When i reset the computer same thing happened when i tried opening the game. I tried it many times, always the same thing. Computer froze. First thing i thought that it had overheated (was running for about 14 hours straight, and it is an old pc) , so i left it for a few hours to cool down. After i came back, i opened a movie, and the computer froze. Not right away, after a few seconds. I tried again, the computer would always freeze, some times not at the same point, but it would freeze at some point. (most of the times when a scene changed or i forwarded the movie.)
At some point, computer would freeze most of the times at the windows loading screen.
Tried restroring the computer a few days back, nothing changed.
Installed an anti-crash program, still nothing, scanned disk for errors, nothing.
Opened the computer in safe mode, still froze at some point.
I tried restoring the computer 2 months back, but the computer froze when 1/5 of the process was left. When i rebooted the computer, it would not go past the Ai Series screen where it froze (the screen before the windows loading screen).

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Sorry for the long post

Hi, well since few days ago, my computer was working fine. However, since last night, my computer constantly froze when I right-clicked a file in the documents or tried to view a file. Something called drwt32.exe would constantly pop up and freeze my windows. I eventually have to use ctrl + alt + delete to get rid of it. Plz help me! Thx a lot in advance.

A:Some Program Keeps Freezing My Computer

Are you sure the EXACT spelling is drwt32.exe? The system file is spelled drwtsn32.exe and if that wasn't a spelling error you probably have malware disguised as a system file.
If it's drwtsn32.exe <- EXACT SPELLING in the [root directory]:\WINDOWS\system32 then it's safe. It's a debugger that runs when your applications has an error and closes improperly and gives a log of what happened.

Hey guys,

Im running a Acer computer i bought at a office sale 2nd hand...

Specs: RAM: 2GB, HDD: 450GB {Partitioned 80GB and 370GB}
Intel Celeron D - 3.20Ghz
Windows XP SP3

I use this computer for all my home studio recording, not really heavy programs but id say they do take up a bit of RAM whilst using. Ive got the OS installed on the 80Gb partition along with all my other programs and software. I store all my movies/music/pictures etc on the 370Gb HDD..

Here's the issue: Lets say while im listening to music on VLC player and lets say i decide to open up the 80Gb or the 370Gb drive to access another file or program the pc freezes the music until it loads up that drive or program...Sometimes i have a BULK DUMP memory problem...I have reset the memory a few times...

Could this be happening because i have got 2 separate drives. What if i had to just have one 450Gb drive and manage everything there, would that be better??

thanks for any help

Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both... (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

any advice would be appreciated if not I will bring to a repair shop and have them sort it out.

A:Newly built computer random freezing and freezing on starting windows

Hello Skytri and welcome to Seven Forums. My usual disclaimer: I'm not at expert at anything.

I'm wondering if there isn't a RAM problem. Perhaps one of the sticks wasn't seated properly, etc. You could open Resource Monitor > Memory tab and make sure all RAM is being recognized. Make sure Installed = 16384MB and the Available + Cached + Hardware Reserved is the same amount. (You are using 16GB total, correct?)

Resource Monitor

If Memtest freezes you could try a quick check for a bad RAM module. Install one stick in Slot # 1 (or whichever slot the mobo manual says to use.) Run the computer to test for freezes. Test each of the remaining sticks one at a time. If all 4 sticks work you might want to go through these troubleshooting guides. They are time consuming but many people have been able to isolate their computer problems.

Hello,

I'm going to post two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart
My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.

I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.

I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen and I have no higher computer knowledge.

I'm attaching the zip file required.

Thanks,

A:Random Computer Freezing - Need to hard restart after freezing No BSOD

Wow, this sounds like the same thing that happened to a friend of mine when his hard drive was failing. Replaced the drive and the freezes went away. Even the buzzing noise.

Also you may need to look at what drivers you may have just install/updated.

Hoping you don't have any failing hardware "Motherboard, video card, etc". Those are expensive

I am running windows 7 on a refurbished hp envy 17, which I purchased about 4 months ago. The computer usually works really well; however recently I noticed that if I open a windows explorer window from within another program (ie - selecting download location of a file) the computer invariably slows down for about 15 seconds and then freezes. I don't have this problem when I open windows explorer by itself from the start menu or if I browse files from my desktop (via my computer).

I was wondering if anyone could offer me some guidance on how to figure out what is causing this.

Thanks,

Welcome to our forum.
I know of no one who recommends McAffe. I would recommend using another anti virus of your choice.

This Uniblue fix everything program is probably like the rest of the programs like it. They destroy computer systems.
You have stated in your post that you have cleaned your registry and I presume you used Uniblue.

I would start off by using a Restore point before you installed Uniblue.
Then I would do a sfc /scannow and see if Windows 7 has any system file problems.

A:Computer Freezing; Slowing Down. But mostly freezing. I have my HiJackThis! Log File.

I don't see anything in your log or your description of your problem to come to the conclusion that your problem is malware related. When there is malware present there will always be other internet related symptoms like popups or a browser hijack etc...

I will advise you to uninstall Microsoft Anti-Spyware as the version you have is very old and no longer supported. It in now called Windows Defender.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently. Go through this now and see if it helps:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

Defrag your HD:

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

Hello, I'm having an issue with my computer.

My computer has started to restart/freeze up on me. The thing is, it has graphical issues once it freezes/tries to reboot. I get all these lines through the screen, graphical glitches when trying to go through the BIOS, etc. The computer isn't too slow, it isn't acting strange, the only thing that is wrong is the obvious freezing/restarting with graphical lines and glitches once it freezes.

My video card has been going out for a long time(I share a computer with a few people and they seem to think the video card is ok, but I have always seen small glitches in graphics here and there), so I am thinking maybe this might be a problem, given the graphical glitches, the horizontal lines going through the screen once it freezes.

When it hits the BIOS, it sometimes shows these same lines with the screen going mostly black.

System specs are:

CPU - Core 2 Duo, speed I don't remember.

Video Card - Geforce 7900 GT 512mb

Ram - 2GB DDR2

Motherboard - Asus, P5N-E SLI

I got this computer a few years back and I am not one to keep updated with specs or talk about them often, so I have forgotten the speed of the CPU and I do not know if I am missing information for you guys.

Solutions I have tried:

Overheating - I used air to filter out all dust/dirt that might be there to harm the computer, I have plenty of fans in there, etc.

Any and all help will be appreciated, Thank you.

A:Solved: Computer Freezing/freezing/graphical glitchs

If you're getting graphical 'glitches' while in bios, that's usually a good sign that your graphics card is having issues - however, I have seen this happen with faulty ram. I'd recommend reseating the cards (ensure your computer is off and unplugged whilst doing so) and see if that helps

Hi,

About every three months my laptop does this. Here are the problems I've noticed:

1. Chrome will not open or take extremely long to load.
2. When I click on firewall it does not respond and Windows explorer has to be restarted.
3. Audio/video is very laggy, but only on certain programs.
4. Desktop lets me click icon once, but then cannot click any icons until I restart explorer.

I have fixed this problem multiple times.
The cause was usually Windows defender needing an update. As soon as I updated it, everything worked normally again.
Another time, the solution was running Hitman Pro or MalwareBytes, which also made it work again.

This time I can't get anything to work.
I have tried:

1. Updating windows defender
2. Updating Java
3. Checking to make sure firewall service was running
4. Running a malware scan using Hitman Pro and MalwareBytes

I know there has to be something else I can do but I'm not sure what to do next.
I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit

I don't know what else to say other than my computer has been freezing and firefox has been freezing lately. I called the manufacturer and he said to restore windows to factory settings, so I did that. Things were great for a week or so, but recently my computer has begun freezing again. It happens pretty frequently. Firefox will also freeze when trying to get it to do very little work, like loading two tabs simultaneously, e.g. My AVS found a suspicious file recently and quarantined it, but still, the freezing has continued. Please advise.

And I do not think that I have a Boot CD

Hi guys,

In Windows 2k, the computer freezes when trying to open jpegs. After several minutes, the files will open. I am not sure what causes this. It is very frustrating. I have run adaware, and it turned up nothing. It has 256meg of RAM.

The pictures are very deep in a directory, if that is of any help.

Thanks for the help.

A:Freezing when opening jpegs

Hi,

Windows doesn't like it if it goes more than 7-8 deep, even then it can grumble. try moving the jpgs to a shallower dir to see if that is causing the problem.

What is the file jpg associated with? i.e. do you have a picture editing program like micrografix/Adobe photo deluxe or a picture browser like Thumbs plus installed.

Try changing the association of the file type to see if that will solve the problem.

Do you have any virus scanning software running?
Have you accidently told it to scan jpgs for virii?

hope this helps Lee

Hi all,

I am running MS Office 2007 (student edition)

When opening a word document it has started freezing on the word splash screen. I then get the error "There was a problem sending the command to the programme"

The only way to get rid of the splash screen is through task manager and kill the process.

I have unistalled office and re-installed then updated with SP1 and 2 for it.

I am still getting the same error. All other office applications are working fine.

It is doing this for both .doc & .docx formats.

Any ideas

tried launching in safe mode....no dice..same as above.
tried launching from start > run > winword.exe /a....same issue as original problem

I'm having a strange but serious problem with my Windows XP Pro system. This all started happening a few days ago and has grown worse. The symptoms are not always exactly the same - I'll try to describe some of the things that are happening:

After starting, everything will run fine for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. Then when I try to open a program via the start menu or a quick launch, or if I try to open a folder for viewing, either the taskbar will completely freeze or the folder I'm trying to open will display the flashlght animation indefinitely. Once this happens I can still alt+tab between windows that are already open, I just can't open any new windows or programs, and everything seems to get more and more bogged down. I can't even get the Task Manager to open.

As a result, I had to restart my computer 20+ times yesterday while I was backing up my files preparing for reformatting. Problem is, whatever programs I have running (say, Firefox for searching the internet for a solution to my problem, or Mozilla Mail for checking my emails for forum replies) get corrupted during the restart because they weren't shut down properly. I lost years of emails and internet bookmarks yesterday because they were apparently corrupted.

I've scanned with every virus scanner available to me (including a few online scanners) and I've run AdAware and Search & Destroy. None of the programs find anything wrong.

The only program I've recent... Read more

Because Firefox was acting so strange I uninstalled and then reinstalled it. Now, for some reason, it won't save any bookmarks, even when I properly close it down.

Now the problem:

Everytime I open a game the game freezes for about 10-30 seconds, and then begins to load.. This also happens when closing takes about ten to thirty seconds, and then finally closes...
This happens with every single game I had.. This didn't happen in the beginning but started about three to four months ago.. I searched for other threads in different forums, but I couldn't find anything similar to my problem...

Please, don't hesitate to reply

Yours Truly,
Andrew

A:Freezing when opening and closing games

Hello Andrew.

Are these high performance games or smaller ones? You don't have a ton of RAM, and your CPU is not extremely powerful. Does this happen with movies? Anything else?

You could also try a defrag and registry defrag.

Hey, new to these forums so please try to bare with me as I try to explain my situation.

This all most likely started about 2 nights ago, I was putting together a video for someone using Pinnacle Studio 16. I copied all the video files over from a portable hard drive and two discs. I placed them into Pinnacle to let them render and let the computer stay running for around 36-48 hours. Now, when I try to open nearly any programs (Google Chrome, Teamspeak 3, Spotify, about anything) around 8/10 times it results in the computer freezing and restarting.

I had a blue screen issue about a week ago, but I took my computer to a shop and they told me a driver just needed updating, and it was doing good until 2 nights ago.

I'll include some information that may be helpful from the Device Manager:
Computer: ACPIx64-based PC
Disk Drives: KINGSTON SV300S37A120G SCSI Disk Drive
WDC WD2002FAEX-007BA SCSI Disk Drive
Display Adapters: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750
Processor: Quad-Core Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz

If there's anything else needed to help solve this, please say so. Thanks in advance!

I also have a problem with Firefox and IE opening up as well.
My computer also freezes and won't open up any programs or respond to the Ctrl+Alt+Del functions.
It also randomly shuts down after freezing and will take several rebootings to become functional again.

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 14 laptop, I have Windows 7 and I have several issues with it. A while ago I noticed that the taskbar was freezing and loading for a while after starting my computer, it only lasted about 2 minutes and I thought it was just a minor problem as my computer is a few years old. A few days ago it completely freezed and I couldn't do anything anymore. I did a restore system and it went fine but when I tried to load the disc with drivers and utilities my computer couldn't load the disc... So I went to Dell website and started to download drivers and other stuff directly from their website but I think I did a big mess with my computer... I started to noticed that the Blue Screen Minidump appeared each time after starting my system. I ran Dell diagnostic and Malwarebytes, I got rid of a few viruses including "Rovnix, Kryptik". After a while I was able to get rid of the Blue Screen. Now I still have some issues with my laptop, it keeps running slow and freezing and I have to keep pressing "ctrl, Alt & Delete" to unfreeze the system, I also have multiple tabs opening when I go on Yahoo email or on other websites, my mouse also act weird and I see various cursors appearing. I think something is messed up with drivers and registry but I don't know how to fix that, I don't want to restore again windows and I can't even do it because I tried two days ago and when I reached the agreement page I was not able to chec... Over the last month or so I've been having problems almost everytime I use Windows XP - basically, after start-up I double-click the Internet Explorer icon and wait for it to open. However, this usually takes about 3 minutes - nothing happens after I double-click the icon, and it almost seems to be delayed reaction. Combined with this, often the whole taskbar will freeze and unusable for a couple of minutes. I have run msconfig and turned off everything on startup and also run spyware software to make sure nothings slowing my system. I've also checked Task manager whilst waiting for IE to open to try and see what the cpu's actually doing but it seems to just be system idle process. I'm totally baffled as to what's causing this and would really appreciate any ideas...

Whether I'm on an internet browser, or some application that you open up files on, that program will usually just completely freeze on me

Some times it works fine and stuff, but it just freezes so much I'm getting frustrated

Here's an example :

internet browser :

I'll be on tinypic to upload a picture real fast, so I click browse. When that little window to search for the file comes up, that window immediately freezes as well as the browser. I have to force close the browser.

a program :

I use this program to trim MP3's to make ringtones and stuff. When i click 'open' the same window to get the file pops up, then bam, same thing, it just froze, then I have to force close the program.

Please oh please, help ?

So my computer is basically brand new. Built it like 6 months ago. Check my profile for the specs. But within the passed 3 weeks, my computer has been running slower than normal in some cases. It's not all the time. Just when I click on icons to run or install programs. Where it normally would take 1 second at the most, it now takes up to like 30 seconds.

Also, when browsing (both Firefox 4.0b6 and IE9), whenever I try to run any type of embedded audio or youtube video the browser will normally freeze for about 20-30 seconds before playing. Sometimes it will lock up and not respond for a bit. A couple times I have tried to CTRL+ALT+DEL but I get an error stating that logon could not bring up the system manager and if nothing shows up, press ESC or restart the computer.

I have ran Spybot, MSE, and Malwarebytes and none of them can find any Malware/Spyware/Viruses. I heard there was a problem with Firefox's plugin container (also had a Windows alert about it crashing) so I turned it off but the problem still isn't fixed.

WTH is going on with my CPU???

I'm using Windows Vista on an HP Pavilion110n PC My screen freezes alot it seems lately. I'm using Internet Explorer. Don't recall right off hand ,but pretty sure it's the latest edition. I'll be in the middle of doing something and it will just freeze up. It will however let me go to start so I can log off. Then when I log back on it will work until the next freeze. Very frustrating. I've run a program called Reimage to repair files and such twice and that hasn't helped. That's all I've done besides running a Norton scan for a virus. All it found were a couple I can't remember what they were called, but the threats were Low and it said they were removed or they took care of them. Anyway that didn't stop my problem. RonT22

Hi all,

Have been having some frustrating issues with my system recently. It all started when my system started freezing with strange patterns showing up on the monitor. I thought it must have been my video card and took it back to the computer shop to test it. They agreed the video card was faulty and sent it off for warranty. In the mean time I purchased a new low-end card and the system worked fine for about a week.

I then started to get the same issues again. I returned the system again and was told there was nothing wrong with this card. They spun some crap about the card not being powerful enough to run photoshop (which is where I spend most of my time) and convinced me to upgrade to a higher-end card, which I did.

Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem and I continued to have problems. I returned the system yet again for a week or so. They tested it (with their HD and fresh install of vista) and said they didnt have any problems.

I picked the system up and used it without problems for around a week or so when the problems started to occur yet again. At the moment the system is freezing, freezing with a strange pattern on the screen (see attached jpgs) (looping audio), restarting, blue-screening (ecache.sys, IRQL not less or equal to, etc). It freezes during vista loading but sometimes makes it to the main OS environment.

I've tried reinstalling vista on a different drive and get exactly the same problems. It freezes and restarts during vista setup so... Read more

Hi there!
I have a usb soundcard which worked perfectly a while ago, but since some time this strange bug is causing trouble. Sound suddenly stops, and the VU meter in control panel stays at the same position - as if the sampling point of audio is stuck. Problem is
temporarily solved by disabling then re-enabling the soundcard.
I tried looking in the logbooks for relating events but I can't find any event which may cause this, as there is nothing happening at the same time as an audio freeze - or there must be a big delay of writing events to logbook.
I don't know what kind of data you need to help me solve this, but I'm happy to supply it!

Thanks in advance :)
