I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you have Fast Boot enabled?  [It's under the advanced power settings.]
If so, turn it off [uncheck the checkbox], do a full shutdown, restart and see what happens.  I just had a client having the most bizarre problems with his keyboard and this was ultimately how it got solved.

I have Windows 7 installed on my new computer, but my firewire audio card and also some software wouldn't work properly with it, so I put my old hard drive with Windows XP installed on it into my new computer.

I can boot up Windows XP from the second hard drive at the bios screen bit, but when it gets to the log in screen, the mouse and keyboard will not respond. I have tried multiple mice and keyboards including the old school style non-USB keyboard. The keyboard works fine to press F12 to get into the boot menu etc but then just stops working completely when XP is loaded. I assume its some kind of driver issue or something like that but I'm pretty useless with computers and I have no idea how I can get my mouse and keyboard to respond in XP

Please if anyone knows how let me know, thanks!!

A:Booting XP from second hard drive Mouse/Keyboard problem

I was thinking about maybe if I copy and pasted all the drivers from my C: windows folder into the windows folder on my D: drive (old hard drive). Maybe this would let my mouse and keyboard work? I'm a bit worried though it seems like the kind of thing I do that seems like a logical idea but actually screws up my PC

Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

Thank you so much for your time.

I had a problem with my laptop which is certain key on my keyboard is not functioning. The weird is, it happened without a reason. because after I shutdown doing my work when I turn it on again, I discovered my "s", "d", "g", "h", "\", "m", " left shift", "caps lock" and "~" key did not work at all. I try taking the key off, cleaning underneath, but nothing seems to be working. After that I try to use usb keyboard and it seems the key can be entered. So I thought my hardware is the problem. than I replace into the new one, but still having the same problem. I already waste my money buying new keyboard. Does any one happen to know what sort of problem this is and how I would go about fixing it? Is it related to the registry. My laptop is Acer aspire 4740G, ram 4GB, processor i3 2.4GHz. I hope someone can help me to solve this problem.

I have some problems with my keyboard. I know that this not an issue with the keyboard, since I have tried two keyboards. One wired, one wireless. Anyway, the problems are that sometimes keys take 5-10 seconds to respond, keys sometimes hang, and that keys sometimes completely stop responding. Remember, all 3 of these problems occur no matter which I try to use. The two keyboards I have tried are the SteelSeries Apex (Wired) and the Logitech K520 (Wireless). More details about keyboards (probably unnecessary):
-Customizable color options, also has effects that fade into different colors
-4 profiles with keys to switch (acts like different keyboardsno changes to USB hub)
-2 USB 2.0 Ports
-Takes 2 USB slots
-SteelSeries logo button between right ALT and document (correct word) button
-Battery Indicator
-Meh, other than that, just an average keyboard with a number pad
EDIT: Ran sfc /scannow, no problems.

The Wired keyboards can be either PS/2 [round purple plug] or USB. The Wireless probably used a USB transceiver/dongle.

Since you say the problem is not the keyboard but you don't say whether those same keyboards have been tested on other computers my best guess is the either the keyboards are bad, unlikely for all 3 at the same time, or that the keyboard controller on the motherboard for the ports is bad. I have a Sony Vaio laptop. Just recently the V key has become hard to press. You just can't tap it, like the other keys, you have to push it. But it will make the contact and type the V (or successfully paste with CTRL V). Can anyone give me an idea as to what may have caused this and how to fix it? If it was a normal keyboard I would pop the key, clean out from under it and replace the spring (if it had one). This is an older laptop, had it since 2007 and I bought it used then.

My Control panel wouldn't open the "Mouse" menu either. After awhile i went back to try my computer and noticed now the Keyboard wont even work. Hi. I have problem when trying to remove a USB connected disk drive; whenever I click on the icon in the bottom right of the task bar and choose the device to eject, once it's removed I also lose my USB keyboard - I have to manually unplug it then replug it to get it working again.

I only seem to have this problem with this particular drive, my USB stick doesn't provoke this problem.

The hard drive is a rather old Maxtor 60G, NTFS.

Weirdly, the mouse, which is connected by USB through a port on the keyboard, continues to function normally... The keyboard is from Apple, the aluminium Apple model. I never had this problem with Vista.

Any Ideas?

Am i pressing keys faster than processor's response time? Thanks if everyone want to reply, btw i'm really considering the possibility to return the product if the issue is not resolved.

Hey guys,
I have been having an issue recently with my mouse/keyboard staggering a lot with significant noise from my computer like something is running.  I checked resources but everything is minimal.  I am running Windows 8.1 Pro.  I have a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard which I replaced the batteries in the mouse thinking they could be dying, but that didn't work. The Keyboard is a solar charging keyboard and has good battery.
I did notice today, but have not noticed before that when this was happening, the windows maintenance was running.  I stopped it, and it took a while to get the mouse back to normal again.  Don't know if this is a coincidence or not.
My computer has a 4ghz 8 core amd fx processor and 32 gb of ram.  The skipping or staggering is happening randomly, sometimes at idle, sometimes when putting slight load.  But there is no way I do anything that will stress my specs out to cause staggering which leads me to believe that it has to be some type of infection.
Can someone walk me through a process to find out?  I have Avast, Malwarebytes, and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit running for protection.  I ran Malwarebytes and Avast and didn't find anything, which doesn't surprise me.  I realize that no program is full proof and each have their strengths and weaknesses so I am sure I am still vulnerable somewhere.  I also realize a clean install is probably going to be the bes... I am having a issue with my father's desktop pc. He has an HP Pavilion p6310f:
AMD Athlon II X4 630(2.8GHz) Quadcore Processor
6GB of memory

Anyways, this computer has run perfectly the past 2+ years we've had it until tonight. I have been borrowing the keyboard that came along with it (wired USB kb) at night for my laptop, as I spilled coffee on my wireless one and haven't replaced it yet. Several times today, the Pavilion would "freeze up" and the only way I could get it to shut down was by either hitting CTRL-Alt-DLT, then unplugging the kb or manually turning the PC off. The third time I went to restart it I got an error stating:
"Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS, volume label is HP. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency"

So, I allowed the chkdsk to run and when it got to about 40% complete it started saying things like "deleting such and such file on label xyz etc....". It did this for about 2-3 minutes. By the time the OS finally loaded we got multiple error messages that Adobe and several other applications were corrupted. I opened up the "HP ADVISOR/HP TOTAL CARE application that comes with the computer and it mentioned several things needed to be fixed and downloaded. It got halfway thru that and gave me and error saying:
"at HPAssistant.Data.dsActiveCheckRes.load ACResults(String filterCategory, Boolean include Ignored)".

Hey there guys, about six months ago I started receiving an error every few days on my computer on boot, and it was something along the lines of: 'pxe-rom: Check cable connection!'. To fix it I just used my Windows 7 install CD and it was fine, until whenever it'd happen again. Now, just about three days ago an error popped up that said 'Windows has detected a hard disk problem'. The hard drive is a 640 GB Toshiba MK6465GSXN. Anyway, after getting that message I quickly backed up all of my important documents and stuff onto an external HDD. It was also very slow, slower than my computer had ever been. So, I decided to do a clean install since scans with Malwarebytes and AVG detected nothing. And then, once it finished, it popped up the error message again?! I have noticed that the slowness has gone, but I'm not installing any programs in case it does fail. I am wondering that maybe the 'check cable connection' error was telling me something, but I didn't think anything of it. So, does it sound like I need to get a new hard drive?
EDIT: I bought a new hard drive, fixed!

A:Windows has detected a hard disk problem. Hard drive failing?

In many cases, that is Windows way of saying your hard drive is in imminent danger of failing. Of course there could be other problems, but windows will usually detect it first. A tutorial that may help is simple to use, but may take a while. Disk Check I would also get the Manufacturer's hard drive diagnostic program to check the drive. You were wise to back up all of your personal information.

Hello, my notebook has suddenly experienced a problem with it's hard drive, and I'm at a loss as to what to do.

It's a "Compaq Presario CQ56" running "Windows 7". As far as I know all drivers and system software is up-to-date.

Well I was running a couple programs and the notebook froze a few times, but only for a minute or so. Then it froze for about 5 minutes. Not completely, but I couldn't access the programs to close them, so I long-pushed the power button and turned it off. I immediately tried to turn it back on several times, and was met with a black screen. After running some system checks and looking at the BIOS and all that, I understood that the problem was with my hard drive.

The system tests were as follows:
Memory Test: PASSED
Battery Test: PASSED
Run-in Test: Stalled at 35%
Start-up Test: Stalled at 35%
Hard Disk Test: Stalled at 2%

So the computer recognizes that the hard disk is there, but still gives me the "Hard Disk Not Exist" error messages at several points. I have no idea how to proceed from this point. My main concern is the integrity of my files; pics, videos, music (especially music).

Does anyone have any idea what I can do? Thank you very much.

A:Dropping cell phone on the keyboard caused hard drive failure?

The drive needs to be replaced - yes, a sudden shock to the drive -- even a seemingly minor one - can destroy it.
To attempt recovery, remove the drive from the system, mount it in a USB shell, and attach it to a working system.  You may be able to recover at least some data. If you cannot, there's always the option of professional data recovery, though the cost isn't inconsiderable -- it'll start at $600 or so and can easily escalate rapidly beyond that.
Something like this is what you'll need;
Once the drive is replaced, be sure you purchase a backup drive - and keep backups going forward.

Anyhow, here's the problem: Toshiba laptop got infected with Vundo virus, tried many anti-virus & vundo specific tools, & the virus would always reappear (it seemed to actually keep some like spybot search & destroy from running at all). Got disgusted, tried to reinstall OS from recovery discs, install would never complete. Reformatted and repartitioned, then got error message saying hard disc was about to fail whenever I booted. Ran some disc recovery utilities, no go.

So I bought a new hard disc, installed it just now, and tried to boot from recovery disc to as to install XP on it. The computer starts, I get the COMPAQ screen where it tells me to press ESC to change boot order. I tell it to boot from the CD drive, it goes through the bios check and the CD drive runs, then everything just stops & I have a blank screen. When I put the old HD back in, I can boot from the recovery disc just fine, though it still says the hard drive is about to fail and I can't get to windows, but I can get to setup just fine. Is there something about the new HD that could keep the machine from booting from the recovery disc? Or am I just missing some obvious step I should have taken (I really have googled the heck out of this, so I don't think so).

A:Problem installing XP on new hard laptop hard drive

and welcome to the Forum

The recovery partition is on the original drive, which means you have to install XP the old fashioned way:

This assumes you have an XP Installation cd . . if not, you can request a replacement from Toshiba or borrow an OEM version from someone.

Was this a typo?

Okay, right now I'm currently trying to find out whats wrong with a keyboard that is on a laptop, after the computer starts there are some script errors, I don't know exactly what they are but I ran combo fix without safe mode and restarted the scripts went away...and it started working after restarting a couple times it started to work then restarted more the scripts came back and the keyboard stopped, even in safe mode but after five or so minutes the keyboard was able to type again, I checked the device managers and everything is update and no error, I ran a combo fix and have the report if you guys want to see it let me know, Its an HP DV6 series with 64-bit windows 7 OS, I'm stumped I have no idea whats up, I'm ready to just put in the recovery disks and see whats up, but he has like 250 gigs worth of files Games etc, Can I back it up to a hard drive and install go back to where it was normally or can that be a problem?

Hi, I was getting an error with dwwin.exe when I shut down my computer at home, so I looked up the error on the internet and it told me the software I had install for my joystick from the company website, can cause this error, so I uninstalled it like it said, but when I clicked remove in add/Remove program window my computer restarted, and when it loaded windows my mouse and keyboard did not respond. I restart my computer and booted from the windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM. I ran windows recovery to see if that would fix the problem. But it did not, so I reboot into MSDOS and delete the windows directory, restarted my computer and booted from the windows CD-ROM to do a clean installation, when all the drivers were loaded and setup was ready to run, my keyboard and mouse stop responding. Is there a way to fix the problem, I did a virus scan and did not find anything. Do you know what the problem could be and how to fix it?

Thank you

Aidan Mowat

P.S. My keyboard and mouse are USB and my keyboard works fine in DOS

Hi!! ^^ I just joined here.

I want to get some help, because I'm having a really annoying problem that just apppeared out of the blue. Lately, whenever I press the Caps Lock button, it tabs to the next available button or typing area. And since I use caps lock a lot, it's becoming a problem. It happens vise-versa, also. When I try to tab to the next whatever-it-is, the caps lock turns on. Most times it's when I'm signing into something, so I type the password in capitals and... ugh. I'm sure this is really easy to solve, I just need some help!!
