ASP - Cannot Retrieve record from a 'single - record' recordset

Q: ASP - Cannot Retrieve record from a 'single - record' recordset

ASP using an access db. I have create a recordset that will return a single record and I'm trying to retrieve that record. When I try to get the record it won't retrieve that value. This is only happening when it is one record in the recordset. The recordset is not at BOF or EOF. Do anyone have any solutions or other alternatives. Need help ASAP, I have been working on this for several days. Below is the code:

Set rsHotFix2 = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
rsHotFix2.ActiveConnection = MM_AMT_DTS_STRING
rsHotFix2.Source = "SELECT Max([CID]) AS LastCID, SID FROM TCO_Contractors Group By LastCID, SID HAVING (TCO_Contractors.SID= "&rsHirerachy__MMColParam&")"
rsHotFix2.CursorType = 0
rsHotFix2.CursorLocation = 2
rsHotFix2.LockType = 1

if rsHotFix2.bof and rsHotFix2.eof then

response.write "Recordset Is Empty"
response.write "Recordset Is Not Empty"
response.write rsHotFix2.Fields(0) & "<BR>"
response.write rsHotFix2.Fields("LastCID") & "<BR>"
response.write rsHotFix2.Fields.Item("LastCID") & "<BR>"
response.write rsHotFix2("LastCID") & "<BR>"
end if
This is what's display on the page
Recordset Is Not Empty

Notice it does display the CID value.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello -

I would like to be able to fill out a subform and then click a button to have the report version of that one record printed. I am savvy with reports, but I am usually running aggregate reports. How do I create a 1 page report for 1 record?

Thank you!

A:Printing a report for a single record

Brad the simplest way to do this is to use a Query that refers to the Subform record, to do this the subform and query need a key index field.
To refer to it in the Query's Criteria row you use the fromat
Where mainformname is the actual name of the main form, subformname is the actual name of the sub form and the keyfieldname is the actual name of the key field on the sub form.

I've created a form in Access-2013 and placed record navigation buttons (using the button wizard) in the footer to allow the user to scroll through the records. They are the usual buttons and function as you would expect:

<< | < | > | >>[/FONT]

Problem is that when a user is on the last record in the table and clicks the ''right" button (in red above), the form displays a blank record. This is normal behavior for Access (as far as I know) and as long as a user enters NO DATA in ANY field, Access does not write the record to the table.

Given that users may be less than astute , I would like to eliminate the possibility of them creating a "blank" record in the table.

Is there anyway to stop this default behavior in Access?

Hello, I am using Access 2000 and have created a database with a command button that opens up a report via a macro. I would like to know how to open up single reports instead of pushing a button that brings up every report, I've been able to open up reports that are based off of queries, queries that have paramenters that need to be inputted in order to bring up single unique records, but I would like to be able to just create a button that brings just that particular unique record-report off of that particular unique record on that form. Meaning that for a record that had just been inputted for John Doe on a form, I would like to know how to create a button on that form to pull up John Doe's single report without having to build a query that asks for a parameter. Is there anyway to do this?

A:Access-Printing a single report off of a single record from an Access database form

You will have to adapt this to your own form setup; but it's just using the Where line of the OpenReport macro action.

If on the form MyFormName you have two controls called txtFirstNm and txtLastNm, and in the query underlying the report you have two fields called FirstNm and LastNm, you would put into the Where line of the OpenReport action:

[FirstNm]=[Forms]![MyFormName]![txtFirstNm] And [LastNm]=[Forms]![MyFormName]![txtLastNm]
Hope that helps.

I have read many online responses to this problem but none of them seem to work for me. I run a property database with a few thousand records or so on it. Like others with this problem I want to print off a form to an existing report but only the current record displayed. Very frustrating as I have been working on this for many months. A humbling process to be sure. I currently have to rekey the ID number in to print the same record. Seems redundant to me but it works. Just takes a little longer. Any help would be appreciated. Know little to nothing of VB and am basicly familiar with the macro process in access. Thanks!

A:Single Record Printing Access 2007

Red56, welcome to the Forum.
The answer is very simple Create a Query of the data that the form currently displays and set the Report's Record Source to the new query.
In the KeyId field enter the following in the first Criteria Row of the field

where formname is the actual name of your form and keyfieldname is the name of the key field on the form.

It is possible to pass the key field directly to the report using the VBA code that opens the report, but it appears to have a bug in 2007. You can also probably set the Report's filter using VBA as well but the query method requires no extra vba and can be tested in the query before opening the report. The Form must be open with a record selected for the query to work of course.

Hello All,
I have this database I built for all my music CDs. It is searchable by artist, date recorded, venue, city , state, notes and track title. The search works fine but I have one issue. I use a subform for all the track titles and it displays the correct songs for the CD. However, I get a record for each song. So if one CD has 16 songs I get 16 records for that CD. In my sample dB I have 7 CDs but it shows 117 records because that is the sum of all the songs on those 7 CDs. I want it to show only the 7 CD records and not a record for each song and still be searchable. I can make it show the way I want but then I can't search by song title. I attached my condensed database version to look at in case my description seems a bit convoluted. Thanks.

Hello again! I'm continuing to have problems with a form I created in Access 2007. I have a master form with 2 sync'd combo boxes. The 2nd combo box is supposed to display results from a query into a continuous form (sub form). The problem I am having now is that the continuous form is only displaying a single record, even though there should be several resulting from the query.
Another - possibly related problem - is with the combo boxes. When you open the form, the first box (cboRegion) is empty but the 2nd (cboLocation) still shows the last city name chosen. The continuous form also shows the results of the last search, but still only one record.
Any thoughts are appreciated!

Okay forgive me as I NEVER want to touch databases. My wife only does little things in DB's and god bless her made a wonderful DB for us to keep track of our email accounts.

The problem is 1 button she made actually prints out ALL records to the printer instead of the one showing on the screen. THis is as far as her knowledge gets her.

Now when I look at the button in the form the name is - cmdEmailLogPrintForm

and when I look at the vb I see that it has -

Private Sub cmdEmailLogPrintForm_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_cmdEmailLogPrintForm_Click

Exit Sub

MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_cmdEmailLogPrintForm_Click

End Sub

Now I am fairly good at decyphering things and it seems to me the problem is with DoCmd.PrintOut

Is there any way to get this so it only prints what is currently showing in the form window NOT everything in the DB?

I have already cleaned the few other snafus I have with the DB but this one is not as minor as the others were (the others were just view layouts).

A:Solved: Access - Form button prints entire DB not the single record I want.

You are correct the DoCmd.PrintOut is not the correct way to print the current record.
The best method is to either save the form as a report or create a report with the same fields.
The report's data source should be a query that uses the current form record as it's criteria.
It is usual to use the form's current record's key field to "filter" the query.
This means putting in the criteria row of the query

Forms![Form Name]![key Field Name]

where form name and key field name are those used on your form.

Hi! I'm new to the forum, and not as knowledgable about Access 2007 as I thought I was when I started this project, so please bear with me as I trip over words and concepts!

I have a master form set up with synch'd combo boxes. The 2nd combo box displays results in a continuous form - showing a shortened version (query'd) of the matching records.

I need to be able to select a record in the continuous form and view +/ print the chosen record from the main table.

I created a report to display the record.
I created a command button to open/view the report but it opens to the 1st record in the entire database instead of the record selected in the continuous form.

How do I get the command button to open up the full record indicated by choosing the shortened version in the continuous form?

Hope this makes sense. Any suggestions / thoughts are welcome! Thanks in advance.

A:Solved: Access 2007 - Print single record selected on continuous form

MuddyTurtle, welcome to the Forum.
Your question makes complete sense, the easiest way to achieve what you want to create a Query for your report.
In the Key field enter this in the First Criteria Row.
forms![Formname]![Subformname]![Key Field Name]
where Formname is the name of your mainform, Subformname is the name of the subform as the mainform sees it and
Key Field Name is the name of the key field on the subform that identifies the Record that you are on.

Hi all

I have a simple Access (2003) db which has a single form view with a subform. The main form is a record based upon a physical case file the subform only details actions past and future, a sort of event log.

I also have a continuous form which displays all upcoming actions sorted by date on all cases for a particular user so they can see just how busy they are likely to be for a particular period. What I would like to do is have an on click() property for the detail of the continuous form so that it opens the main form filtered by the record in the continuous form that was clicked. User can then update or add new events for that case before closing form and returning to the continuous form

Hope this makes sense

A:MS access open single form filtered by selected record in continuous form

coasterman, welcome to the Forum.
It makes perfect sense.
If you add a Command Button to the Continuous Form and after selecting the mainform select the "Open the Form and find specific data to display". This will give you the code that you need to add to your On Click or On Double Click property or of course leave the button and use that.

They were blocked by Lavasoft's AdWatch so the Lavasoft programmers obviously think this stuff is not intended for my benefit. If anyone is interested the cookies included the following;

Doubleclick (1)
Fastclick (1) & (2)
Hitbox (1)

Zedo (1)

Just how does this overkill help me.? Each of these cookies uses my limited bandwidth to report back on my surfing habits. Lucky I don't spend too much time on those Swedish sites eh?

Unfortunatly having all those advertising spyware cookies does nothing for your system or for you but does help keep the supplying site free and accessable to everyone. I do not condone this activity and I am happy others are finding out about it and removing them from their personal systems. In ranking though the ones listed are minor in comparison to some of the stuff supplied by Webmasters.

I've never used any PVR (personal video recording) hardware and software before. I want to try it now because there is an awesome drama I have on VHS tape that I want to transfer to DVDs.

So, I went searching and decided that a HAUPPAUGE WINTV PVR 250 TV TUNER PCI CARD would do the job. On the TV tuner card itself, I see it has many connections like:

(1) Coaxial Connector - Input only
Used for cable television and satellite boxes with Microsoft Windows XP Media Center only.

(2) S-Video Connector - Input only
Used for cable television and satellite boxes with Windows XP Media Center only.

(3) Composite Video - Input only

(4) Left Audio Channel Jack - Input only

(5) Right Audio Channel Jack - Input only

What I'm wondering is, if I want to put my VHS tape in the VCR and want to record it, how would I make the necessary connections?

My VCR has the video, left audio, and right audio ports in the back. Would I, then, connect these 3 cables from the back of my VCR to the correspondings slots on the TV tuner card? Would this mean that I don't have to connect my TV to the tuner card??

Or, do I have to connect the video cable from VCR to TV tuner card but connect the left and right audio from VCR to my onboard sound card??

The TV card comes with DVD authoring software that will detect/auto scan for signal sources and output the display on my monitor.

Can anyone explain to me how this will work??

The workgroup has two computers (and a router).

DHCP Scope is aaa.bbb.ccc.100 - aaa.bbb.ccc.110

Router is aaa.bbb.ccc.1

All are in the same subnet.

Until yesterday, both computers could see each other, could share files and printers, and could connect to each other via Remote Desktop. I obviously screwed up something, somehow (or my daughter did...) What happened is a mystery, and the results are most perplexing.

Computer X is inaccessible from computer Y for a really strange reason: DNS thinks the IP of computer X is aaa.bbb.ccc.99 . The correct IP for Computer X is aaa.bbb.ccc.100

From computer Y, if I ping computer X by hostname,

the ping fails.
the ping reports the wrong IP: aaa.bbb.ccc.99

From computer Y, if I ping computer X by IP aaa.bbb.ccc.100, the ping succeeds AND reports the correct IP (duh!) - aaa.bbb.ccc.100

On the router/DHCP server both computers are listed and both show the correct IP

I think the problem is the A (host) record in the DNS Resolver Cache on Computer Y

On computer Y

ipconfig /displaydns shows the incorrect IP for Computer X (it shows aaa.bbb.ccc.99)
the A record on the routing table shows the incorrect IP for Computer X (it shows aaa.bbb.ccc.99)
I have tried a series of diagnostics from computer Y:
ipconfig /displaydns shows the wrong IP for Computer X
ipconfig /flushdns doesn't help
ipconfig /registerdns doesn't help

Hi all, I am not too familiar with SPF records, i just know they ensure that the sending server for a particular domain is authorized to send mail etc (at least i think, let me know if i am wrong).
My mail is hosted with Office 365, and when i set this up it asked me to create an SPF record on the domain which was the following:
v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all
Can someone let me know what the above does? I though it would allow mail to be send that is routed through office 365 servers but mail being sent from my domain elsewhere would fail, is this not what is happening?
I only ask because I have a Joomla website that can send out messages using PHP mail and it sends out successfully, i would of thought that it would have failed with a correct SPF record that only allows office 365 to send mail. Could someone clear this up for me.
The domain is animalsanctuary.org.uk if that helps!

A:SPF Record Help

SPF records don't block outgoing mail traffic -- they simply signal to other mail servers that email being sent from that mail server is legit. It is up to the other mail servers to determine whether or not to block those incoming emails that don't have SPF records configured. Any email sent through Office 365 will have a proper SPF record; anything sent using PHP won't. This may cause email being sent out by the Joomla server to be blocked when it tries to send email to certain mail servers.
You should be able to configure your PHP mail with an SMTP relay through Office 365 if you are worried about mail from the Joomla website being blocked for a lack of an SPF record.

We host our own email server and published an SPF record on our DNS server. However, it would appear this SPF record is not being seen by recipients, as shown by dnsreports.com. Exact report:

Your domain does not have an SPF record. This means that spammers can easily send out E-mail that looks like it came from your domain, which can make your domain look bad (if the recipient thinks you really sent it), and can cost you money (when people complain to you, rather than the spammer). You may want to add an SPF record ASAP, as 01 Oct 2004 was the target date for domains to have SPF records in place (Hotmail, for example, started checking SPF records on 01 Oct 2004).

Any ideas why its not being seen? Thanks.

Hi there

I have a load of avi files that I want to convert and burn to DVD so I can a) remove them from my PC and free up some much needed space, and b) watch them on a normal DVD player and TV.

I have a CD writer drive on my PC, but not a DVD burner. However, I do have a recordable DVD player linked to my TV. Can anyone advise me how I set about transferring all these avi files to DVD? I wonder if I can link up my DVD recorder to my PC with the use of some kind of lead, perhaps from Maplin or Radio Shack?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks folks.

A:How do I record .avi to dvd?

You may be able to use the composite out (yellow) and a headphone to RCA cable (red and white) to run to those inputs on your dvd recorder. I've never heard of anyone doing that, but people output to tvs that way so it might work. You'd just need to have the resolution set to something low like 800x600 and fullscreened the video when you start recording. Would be interesting to see if that works......

Or you could pay $25 and get a DVD burner, then use some software like ConvertXtoDVD which is incredibly easy to use. You can do it with free software too, but it can get complex quickly. Lots of tutorials on doom9.org

Hi all
Is there any inexpensive way of recording from TV to PC?
At the moment I have a DVD Recorder with Hard Drive but its quite a few years old now and it records via Scart which in all honesty, means the picture quality is pretty poor.
Ive just got Netflix so the plan is to get my old PC and connect that via a DVI to HDMI cable so I can run Netflix that way on the TV rather than through the Wii.
Admittedly i dont use the Recorder frequently and i dont have Sky+.  Yes I know there a lots of catchup options now hence me not using the Recorder regularly.
Ive seen a couple of items on Ebay but im not entirely sure how they work or even if its possible to do.  This is to record from TV channels and not Netflix I must add.
Ebay items ive seen: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Video-Capture-TV-Tuner-Cards-/3761/i.html?_from=R40&_sop=2&LH_ItemCondition=1000&LH_BIN=1&_nkw=pc+tv+card&LH_PrefLoc=1
Any help and advice appreciated.

A:How to record CDs?

Although I've never used anything like this, it looks like what you are looking for, and it costs about $20. Look here. Again, I can't recommend it, it's just something I found on a Google search, and looks like just what you are looking for.

Sorry have to ask a stupid question. Are you trying to do multiple burns on cdr media. cdr only allow one burn, then there done. cd-rw will allow multiple burns.

Is there a way to record available episodes from Fox.? When you go to the networks website they usually allow you to view episodes of their programs.

A:Record Fox, CBS, etc.

There are a few programs that let you record what's on your screen if that's what you want. One of the better free ones is http://camstudio.org/ , not sure how good it'll work for what you intend though. I'm sure there are other alternatives so just google around.

My old Vortex card went bad and I installed a Dinamond DT-688 which is all I need since I am not a gamer. Seems to work in every way except for recording with the mic. I checked the mike at Radio Shack and it worked on the stereo. I have an old mic with a quarter inch plug and use a reducer to plug it into the computer. I recorded OK with the old Vortex card, but it isn't working with the new Diamond. I have checked all the volume controls I can find and they are all turned up as high as I can get them. The first few times I tried I got a very low level recording which required turning the volume up full to be able to hear it. Now it doesn't sppear to be recording at all. Could it be a bad card or could the reducing adapter be bad? I am stumped/

The problem is in the title. My computer will not record anything. Not from a cassette deck, neither from a microphone. There were two things I did before even trying to record anything, perhaps it screwed something up.
1. I installed VLC media player (to be able to watch video DVDs - other progrms refused to do it on this computer. It was a drag.)
2. I installed Sound Forge 7.0. A mistake I guess, seems it's not compatible. I uninstalled the program, but it didn't help.

Otherwise the sound works, the mic also - with Winamp shoutcast for example. But it won't record. It might be that it would, but for some reason the recording sound level is frozen at close to 0 level and it won't budge - in Sound Recorder that is, a program that came preinstalled. In the shop they've tried to help, but to no avail, and if I got it right they could not change the recording sound level for Windows Movie Maker, which they used to test the problem. The recording level in the sound options in control panel is on max, but it doesn't help. What to do?

Oh yes, and it just stopped voice info om avast updates. Just some days ago. But maybe that's not related.

Get MusicMatch Jukebox. It's by far the best utility. Twenty bucks gets you lifetime upgrades. Totally worth it. I've been using it for years and have converted both my albums and my cassettes to mp3s and burned them. There's a line in feature that you connect to that'll do the job. Hope this was helpful.
