I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Can you post back with the following details. 1. The full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - you can usually get this by holding down the fn key and pressing esc, otherwise see Here for a guide on locating this information. 2. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers - what devices are listed here? Regards, DP-K

I muted my sound but I noticed that the volume bar would remain on the side, so i tried to unmute it, but it seems almost as if there is someone pressing the mute button; no matter how high i turn the volume, it automatically goes back all the way down to mute. The orange light on mute is flickering as well. It really bothers me and uses my battery, is anyone able to help me?

I'm using the Windows 7 RC and the mute button on my HP Pavillion DV7 is stuck in the 'on' phase (ie: it is lit up orange) regardless of whether the sound is actually muted or not.

I can live with it but it's really bugging me.

Does anyone know how to sort this out?

Hello, I'm having some trouble with the sound on my laptop.  I have a HP Envy 17-3270NR.  My daughter spilled apple juice on it a while back.  I opened it up and cleaned up as much as I could, then sat it in front of a fan for a week before trying to boot it up again.  To my surprise, it worked!  In fact, there was nothing wrong with it, including the sound.  Everything worked.  Even though it was working I still felt I should open it up and give it a proper cleaning.  I'd had some overheating issues in the past and thought this would be a good opportunity to reapply thermal paste to the CPU and GPU and clean off any juice residue I'd missed.  I took it apart carefully and cleaned the motherboard with a Qtip and alcohol.  I reapplied thermal paste to the CPU and GPU, blew the dust off the fans and put it back together.  After reassembly, the mute light below the beats volume knob was lit up.  Pressing the mute button has no effect on the light, it's always lit up.  When I press the mute button, the onscreen mute indicators change but the mute light on the top cover always stays lit.  More importantly, there is no sound at all.  I've tried reinstalling the drivers.  I've tried the headphone jacks and external speakers.  Nothing has worked.  I've tried taking it apart and putting it back together a few times but no luck.  I thought maybe I messed up the routing of the r... How's it going? I have a problem that's been driving me crazy. I'm new here so forgive me and feel free to direct me to any thread if it's been posted already.

So I have a HP DV6-2162NR laptop and the mute button (touch) is stuck in the mute position (see picture).

The button works completely fine, as in it will mute and unmute on command but the button does not change color from orange to white.

I couldn't do a system restore because there wasn't one saved. I tried disabling the sound card but that didn't work.

I'll restart it and it turns white. But as soon as Windows 7 loads, it turns orange and stays orange.

Any ideas? I'm trying to do this without resorting to a format. Thanks..

Hello! I so glad I found this forum. My first post:)

I have spent days trying to figure out why I can't get any sound from speakers. I have done the trouble shooting feature on audio and is says no fix detected (something like that) I have up loaded the reltech HD (sp) audio etc.

What I believe is the problem is my media bar is stuck on and nothing functions and the audio on the bar is stuck on mute. (I can use the slider on screen and everything is NOT muted)

Do I need a new media/strip cover? if so, how do I find a part #?

Or is it a sound ribbon I need to replace?

Thank you in advance

Help!
Take a look at the screen shot below.  Notice the mute button is checked on and I cannot get it to turn off.  Notice the volume icon in the top left...this appears on all screens and won't go away.
I have uninstalled and reloaded realtek audio drivers, have also reinstalled keyboard drivers.  I have used the dell audio trouble shooter and all it says is that volume is low and mute is on.  I have used the msconfig to check that audio etc are turned on.  The manual sound button on the right can override the mute for a second, but then the volume just goes down and to mute.  The FN buttons seems to work as the increase volume button does override for a second and then volume goes down....this is driving me crazy!  Thanks for any suggestions

The laptop lags and I have to go to task manager to End the processes "Thinkpad Message Client Loader" and and "Thinkpad message Receiver for Shortcut Hot Keys" for the the laptop to stop lagging (CPU is 100% on startup for some reason which may account for the reason of lagging). I have updated every driver with Driver Easy and Lenovo System Update. I have tried disabling then renabling and rolling back audio drivers but to no avail. I even uninstalled then reinstalled audio drivers. I have also gone to volume mixer, playback devices and recording devices but according to it the speaker works fine. I tried adjusting the volume in volume mixer but it keeps coming back down just as always.  The main problem is that the sound is stuck on mute and I just want it resolved. The keys themselves work, but the indicators do not - I can mute my speakers or mic or turn on caps lock just fine.  No error codes from the built-in diagnostics or vantage, lights don't work in a linux live USB. I have power cycled multiple times, reset BIOS to default, and pushed the reset button on the bottom of the laptop while it was off, nothing helped.  What do I do now?

I have this pain in the ass problem with HP's mute button on my nc8430 laptop (Hp quick launch buttons). The core of the problem is that the system mutes the sound by default and the orange light on the button is always on. In reality that means that anytime I want to play something with sounds (mp3, movie, flash online video,..) the system needs like 10 seconds to turn on the sound card and after I finish playing the media file it again goes back to mute.

I tried installing/uninstalling different versions of "uncompatible" HP's QLB drivers, installing differend sound card drivers but nothing helps. The sound comes out everytime, except it needs 10+ secs every fuc***** time!?

If anyone has similar problems and found any solutions I'd be most grateful!!

Hi, recently I bought a new keyboard with multimedia keys
Model : Microsoft Wireless keyboard 1000
All the keys are working fine, I also installed the latest drivers and Intellitype Pro to the correct OS i'm using.
However, when I press the mute/unmute button, the volume bar shows up, but does not actually mute. It seems like it flashed the mute symbol for half a second but it still just stay unmute. I tried using the default Microsoft sound driver and the latest Realtek sound driver but still no luck.
I also tried turning HID services on and off but still the same
BUT, I remember the mute button WORKING until a few days ago.

I don't know if it is due to the Windows Update, or something to do with my motherboard driver or something else. The roll back driver option is greyed out in Device Manager so I don't assume that is the problem..

I'm currently using:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000
YAMAHA speakers YST-M15 (really old model)
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5859
ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard

I'm really confused because if all the multimedia keys are working then it should not be a driver problem. If the volume up/down is working then it should not be speaker problem. It is ONLY the mute button that is not working.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

THE QUESTION:
- How do I mute the laptop speakers while still getting sound out of my headphones? So even if I pull my headphones out, still no sound comes out of the speakers.

FOLLOW UP:
- As a laptop user, you know that most of the time we work in quite areas such as libraries or night flights. When you accidently pull the headphones jack out, your music blasts causing a lot of unnecessary disturbance.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Dell Inspiron 5150, Windows XP, SigmaTel Audio C-Major.

IS IT POSSIBLE:
- YES. It was for the past 3 years until a few days a go. I say this because I used to achieve this by checking the 1 PC spk Mute checkbox under ADVANCED in the Volume Control panel. I recently had to reinstall the SigmaTel driver and now when I check the 1 PC spk Mute checkbox, It mutes EVERYTHING including the headphones.

WHAT I'VE TRIED:
- Rolling back SigmaTel driver: not possible since the original was uninstalled.
- Installing the SigmaTel driver from the dell website
- Installing the SigmaTel driver from the drivers CD
- Searching the net. Most results suggested checking the PC spk Mute checkbox, but as mentioned earlier, now it mutes my headphones as well.
Any suggestions are welcome and very much appreciated. Thank you.

Is there a way to "Mute" the Laptop speakers...but allow the HeadPhone devices to remain unchanged...so that when you unplug it...it just goes mute...

Especially while watching porn or something this would be really usefull...LOL

A:Mute Laptop Speakers... without muting Head Phone Devices?

Open Sounds in Control Panel, go to Playback tab, right click on your speakers go to Properties, go to Levels tab and click on the little speaker to mute.

Check your Computer manual you may have some keyboard shortcuts to mute them.

I was confused that Factory install was Vista , but Boot Logo shows XP as you stated later , so you are running XP now ?

Either way , that error code usually happens within XP and can be contributed to the hard drive or actually booting fully.

Have a look at this other similar post answered by Hamluis previously that fixed the same issue , if it doesnt Post Back.

My mom was updating her laptop and it told her to restart her computer to finish updating. She restarted it and a message came up saying "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not turn off computer." It froze and she restarted her laptop again. It went back to the same message and is stuck on it. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

Try bringing up the Advanced Startup Options by tapping F8 as soon as the laptop is turned on.

Then highlight "Last known good configuration" and press <Enter>

Hopefully that will get you into Windows but it won't solve the update problem.
It could be caused by malware so please post on the malware forum as we aren't allowed to help with malware on the non-malware forums.

I feel a bit stupid really :/ I just took out my spacebar to clean under it since it was sticking and barely useable. I proceded to clean it and put it back, but now when i use it it stays down instead of springing back up. It's not really causing a problem (isnt typing repetitive spaces or anything) its jus kind of annoying. How can I fix it?

Thanks in advance

Hello
My laptop is Dell Inspiron 14 N4050.
The problem is why it stucks in BIOS and cannot go to windows after I tried installing Windows 10 last time. That time the screen showed "there is not complete drivers inside". After that when I shut down forcefully and turn it on back the screen appeared in blue color and saying please call technician.

These happened after I send my laptop to a Computer shop for reformat. Then backed home I downloaded the new Windows 10 OS and after completed the laptop cannot be used. I think maybe the shop that I send my laptop do not put all the drivers. and the result my laptop cannot be upgraded and now cannot use anymore. many files located inside and I cannot take them back. so sad. please help me.

A:WHY MY LAPTOP STUCK

First thing to do is run an extended hard drive diagnostic - the root of all the problems could be a bad drive.
F12 at powerup.
This system doesn't have official support for anything newer than Windows 8 -- though some have reported 10 will install and run (the audio is the part where the drivers usually fail).
