Wifi Network Adapter drops out at random times (Windows 7)

Q: Wifi Network Adapter drops out at random times (Windows 7)

OS: Windows 7
Hardware: Sony VAIO
Powered by: AC
History: The computer is about 2 years old and the symptoms described below started either abruptly or gradually some 2-3 months ago.

Symptoms: The network access icon in the right of my task bar will show 4-5 bars of signal strength. I'll leave the computer for several hours and when I come back, it shows 0 bars with a red x over it. I click it, select troubleshoot and the Windows Network Diagnostics window pops up and says "Problems found"; A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken" - Detected; "Problem with wireless adapter or access point" - Fixed, upon which the icon goes back to 4 or 5 bars and I resume my network connectivity. This takes all of one minute or less.

However, if I need to do a lengthy download, this unexpected action will stop the download in the middle of the night.

1) I tried a side-by-side comparison with another laptop and the Sony VAIO lost the network connection in the manner described above while the other computer didn't.
2) I went to Manage Wireless Networks, removed all networks (including my home network) and then rebuilt the wireless networks by re-entering my home network. I was then able to access my network. However, the wireless network adapter still shut off in the middle of the night.
3) I went to Power Settings/Change advanced power settings/Advanced settings/Wireless Adapter Settings/Power Saving Mode and observed that "Plugged in" states "Maximum Performance"

Thanks for your help.

Preferred Solution: Wifi Network Adapter drops out at random times (Windows 7)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This might help - the following commands restore Windows IP and Winsock to known good values

Open an Elevated Command Prompt

Standard keyboard shortcuts for Copy (Ctrl-C) and Paste (Ctrl-V) shortcuts do not work in Command Prompt.

Enabling the Quick Edit Mode in Command Prompt makes Copy and Paste operations easier.
See step 4 in Command Prompt - Copy to Clipboard to enable it.

Copy in Command Prompt: hightlight the text you want to copy, then press ENTER.
Paste in Command Prompt: right click with your mouse.

In the elevated command Prompt window type the following commands
Alternatively, you can copy the commands, one line at a time and paste it in the Command Prompt Window

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ipv4 reset all
netsh int ipv6 reset all

I am currently using a Thinkpad L440. For about a year and a half now, I have been having random Wifi drops on my laptop. The wifi will suddenly stop working and my browser will prompt me to run Windows Diagnostics. Windows Diagnostics will detect the problem and reset my wifi adapter which fixes the problem. Then the same problem occurs after some time. I tried updating all the drivers, as well as the BIOS. I also tried removing the wifi apapter driver through Device Manager and reinstalling but this did not solve the isse. In fact, the wifi seems slower after doing this. As a note, whenever I run a scan using LSC, under WIreless > Local Connection Test, I get a warning sign. This has been consistent for about as long as the problem has been occuring.  Model: L440BIOS: J4ET91WW(1.91)Wifi Adapter: 2x2 11bgn Wireless LAN M.2 Adapter Appreciate any advice.

I recently upgraded the OS on my old Pavillion dv6700 notebook from Vista to Windows 10. The wireless network adapter often drops out when the device is not in use - it may work okay for days, or  sometimes only minutes. Sometimes running the troubleshoot routine resets the adapter and sometimes the adapter has to be disabled and then re-enabled. (Turning the laptop off and on again also works.) I understand that this is an old device, but everything else works fine and even though this problem is relatively easy to rectify, it is annoying. Is there a simple solution to this issue.

A:dv 6700 windows 10 wifi adapter drops out

Hi: See if unchecking the 'allow windows to turn off this device to save power' box on the power options tab for the wireless card works for you. What model wireless card does your notebook have? There may be other tweaks you can do on the Advanced tab.

Hi, we have a bunch of computers(70 aprox) connected to a domain. Since couple weeks ago very strange issues started occuring, internet and network access(path to network share is lost) would come up at random times and on different machines and would last for about 10-20 seconds it would re-connect again.
All the computers are using private addresses.

Most machines are windows 7, some are xp.

Using Windows server 2003 as dc.

Since the occurance is so random it's very hard to pin point the cause, hopefully someone has come accross this issue in the past.

I have an integrated Gigabit Ethernet adapter - a Realtek 8168, I think. Sometime (but not always) when Windows wakens from sleep the adapter runs at 100Mb instead of 1Gb. Disabling and re-enabling the adapter puts it back to 1Gb. A reboot also fixes it (of course).

Is this typical behavior, or do I have something set wrong?

The Windows & Device Manager identifies the device as "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" and says the current driver - version 7.67.1226.2012 - is up to date.

I've have my PC's Ethernet adapter connected to an Ethernet switch for about a year. The switch indicates port speed by different colored LEDs. I don't recall seeing the 100Mb light until a week or 2 ago

A:After Windows wakes, my GbE network adapter drops to 100Mb

Don't know if you'll see it, but in Device Manager right-click on your Realtek network adapter and select Properties.

Then select the Power Management tab, and un-check the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", if you have that option.

Now see if you lose your gigabit connection when coming out of sleep.

I have a rather annoying issue and i'm stuck trying to find a solution. My D-link Ac1900 wifi adapter keeps losing connection to my router every 10 seconds, I have tried many solutions to try and fix this from,
unplugging and restarting my pcrolling back the driving and updating themexchanged the device for a new replacementupdating the motherboard biosun checking the power setting to stop the device from being turned

but still nothing fixes the issue, take note that this only occurs on my pc which is brand new, works fine on my laptop doesn't drop out every 10 seconds.

Would anyone have any idea or have the same issue with a solution to the problem.

So, I've had this problem for literally years now. When I am using an ethernet cable to hook up to my router, my PC's connection drops dozens of times a day. It's a real pain, especially when I'm trying to stream something to a TV. In the past, I have circumvented this issue by using WiFi, which is perfectly stable for whatever reason. Problem is that WiFi in my new place is awful. I literally get connection speeds of 1 Mbps from my WiFi card up here in my room. So now I'm redoubling my efforts to find out why my ethernet is so unreliable, because I need the increase in network connection speed (it's only 100 mbps because I use an ethernet powerline adapter - but still).
I have tried purchasing an ethernet card because I thought the mobo port might have been broken - but the new card exhibits the same behavior. I have tried messing with the settings (going from "auto" to "100 mbps full duplex" etc.) to no avail. I've tried swapping out my ethernet adapter and my ethernet cable for new ones - same behavior. I even moved into a new house, got a new modem and a new ISP - same exact behavior. The adapters work on every other device in the house. Only my PC has this consistent issue and it only happens when I'm wired.
So before I go and buy some expensive range booster or whatever, I was hoping that someone here might be able to suggest a few solutions or help me troubleshoot. Thanks.

This has been going on for about a year now while I've been on helpdesk tickets with the router, modem, and even my ISP. The problem is that on any large or long downloads my network drops. This happens on wired or wireless, windows or mac and occurs about the same time in the download. Let's say I need to update windows, I hit the update button and right on 65% the download stops and my router shows that my network just got killed. However, If I run a speedtest it still shows good speed, and I can still watch movies or browse the internet just fine. The download just stops right there and won't pick back up. If I restart the PC then it does the same thing, stops at 65%. Next I tried doing another type of large download, a game, Borderlands 2 through steam. It stops right at 55% and the network drops, so I restart that computer(wired) and same thing. Then I pause the download, restart the modem and the router, and hit resume, still won't download, but the speedtest shows it's just fine and my other computers are surfing the net like a champ. Then it must be a problem with the router or modem right? Well I've tried it out on two different modems and two different routers, both brand new and not cheap by any means(Details below). So if the same thing happens when I switch out the hardware, then it must be the ISP, but again, the speedtest and everything else looks like they are fine and my ISP(Comcast) has two tickets on this and can't see any... Just a guess here...

If you downloaded the driver from windows updates website...then check settings - system - apps & features - here on the top you will see manage optional features...click manage optional features - click add (internet connections is required) - here it will show optional updates available for your system...click any & you will see install tab. Check if your driver is available there.

Hey All,

My usb Wireless Adapter is sometimes not recognized at start up. I?m running a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit operating system. My wireless adapter is a Premiertek Powerlink 802.11b/g/n that is mounted outside (Michigan). I am connecting to a neighbors unsecured wifi and at times my adapter is not recognized in the Device Manager (Unknown Device).

I noticed that when it is not working that the adapter is not showing in my network connections. At times I do several startups to get it going again. At other times I have unconnected the adapter from my rear usb port and connect it to a usb multiple port adapter that I bought (4 ports). It works there sporadically (connecting and disconnecting) then I end up plugging it back into the usb port on the back of the computer to get it going again.

I have tried following things I have tried to no avail. I have reset the adapter with a ?netsh int ip reset? command. Removing the ?unknown device? from the device manager and having windows try to recognize it again. I have directed the unknown device to update in several ways . From the drivers in the Windows/System32/driver and driverstore directories and I get a most up to date driver message when I do.

I have unloaded the Ralink software and driver for this device and reloaded it. I have taken screen shots of services running when it does not work and when working. I have noticed that in administrative services certain things have not started when not working: Computer Browser, ... Read more

A:USB wifi adapter unrecognized on start up at times

It sounds like your system has some file integrity problems. You should start by running the sfc/scannow command. It's sometimes required to run this command more than once in order to fix certain problems.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

A start up repair would be my second choice for fixing this problem. It's sometimes required to run the start up repair three times in order to fix certain problems.
Startup Repair

A repair install might also be required if the other steps don't fix the problem.

Hey All, new to the forum, thanks for the replies in advance, and I'm sorry if I'm not explaining it in the correct terms.

My issue seems to be with my computer. Often, when I am connected to my WiFi router, my internet service, and subsequent connection to the network, drops inexplicably. My computer will claim it is no longer connected. When I attempt to reconnect, the computer claims it cannot. The troubleshooter also cannot find an issue. All the while, other devices and computers on the network will be perfectly connected without interruption. The only way to fix this is to actually go to the router, reset it, and wait. This can happen within 5 minute of being reset, 20 minute, an hour, or sometimes, days go by without it being an issue. No rhyme. No reason. (That I can find)

Other times, my network, will just...slow down. I'll see the connection drop from full signal to 4 bars. If I catch it then, I can run the troubleshooter and everything will be restored (although the message the computer returns is that there was no problem found). Either this, or if I turn off my wifi, then turn it back on, reconnect to my network, boom, speed restored!

This is driving me insane. I can't seem to fix it. Any help is appreciated, as I am quite tired of having to march across the room 3-6 times every day to reset this. Thanks!

Since then Windows does not recognize the Wifi network adapter. It is not there in the Device Manager at all.

Can anyone guide me how to solve this issue. Since the adapter is not being listed in the device manager, I don't know how to update or reinstall drivers.

Hello everyone

Our college dorm is like a 4 story building with two corridors on each level having a wifi router after every 6 meters that serves probably 5 rooms ( each room having 2 people). The internet is provided to us by our ict dept which for some reason no one knows where it is.

So the problem is that during summertime especially, this issue comes up. 2 guys sitting in the same room, 1s getting a perfectly smooth internet and the others internet drops after every few seconds for about 10 seconds. At times, a guy sitting in my room will be getting disconnections but i wont. Other people on the floor are facing this issue too. I have confirmed that the channels being used by the wifi modems/routers (sorry i dont know the difference) is either 1, 6 or 11 on all of them.

The wifi signal remains the same during this "disconnection" period. I still see 4 bars but i cant surf or if im downloading it goes down to 0 kbps for about 10 seconds or more then comes back for a little while before disconnecting again.

I cant understand the issue. What just happened now is that on a pc my friend was using a usb tp link tl-wn722n to access wifi and he was facing disconnections. All he did was come to my room get my roomates tp link(same model) and its working perfectly for him now.

Please for the love of goodness help me.

A:Random Internet Drops on College Dorms Wifi During Summers

Yes that is very common in Dorms. It all depends on how they have the WIFI A/P's are set up.

The IT group could also be using the Summer break to upgrade equipment, replace bad Ethernet cables, switches, etc.

You need to go talk to the IT dept. for the school and see what is going on.

My son had to use a Netgear Ac USB external adapter with a USB jumper to get a proper signal in certain areas on his campus.

I tried refreshing the network list, but still doesnt work. I have also checked multiple times if i put the correct password and its correct! Sometimes it connects and i try opening IE or Chrome and IE says: " Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". And Google Chrome says: "ERROR 106 (net::ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED): The Internet Connection has been lost". I also checked Windows Firewall and checked if Windows Firewall was blocking these two. But it wasn't. And there are times when it connects, but then disconects. And its weird becuse my iPod Touch and my brother's laptop have no problems connecting to the network. So i dont know how to fix this anymore. And i have this problem for about 4 months already. PLEASE HELP ME!

So I've been having on and off issues with my computer for a while that became really bad after I set up my XBOX 360 as an Extender a couple of weeks ago (I have since undone that), Windows Media Player started to regularly crash and I'd noticed that every now and again my network adapter would just drop the connection, only to instantly reconnect. Ran MBAM a few times over and used eset's online scanner. Spybot S&D and MSE as well.

Found a few win32/opencandy, a couple of listings for boaxxe.g trojan and BELIEVE I've cleaned it out. I should mention my MBAM is now the pro edition in an attempt to help with this.

So I've cleaned out several infected files over the past few days and I just can't seem to fix this last bit, and it's really starting to interfere in regular life.

I registered to forums to get help to solve wireless adapter issue I am having.

I have been looking for help in Lenovo forums and AV provider: problem is still on.

I changed AV software from Symantec to F-Secure. I uninstalled Symantec software and installed F-Secure software. Laptop is Lenovo T520.

What happened

First I recognized that ping commands caused Windows to crash. Then I uninstalled some VPN softwares and ping started to work. Operation did something to wireless and LAN connections, they did not work anymore.

LAN started to work by removing LAN drivers from device manager and reboot. After reboot Windows reinstalled LAN drivers and LAN was ok.

Wireless is a pain in there. I have tried almost everything. All Lenovo provided network softwares and power management tools are uninstalled and reinstalled together with wireless drivers. Wireless driver is not recognized by Windows.

None of automatic repairs or wifi uninstallation operations have corrected problem.

I collected some logs which might help, but now I do not know how to proceed. Windows reinstallation is something which I do not want to do.

Thanks for having me on your forum.

As the title of my post states, I'm having issues with my Windows 10 Wifi or lack thereof.

Let me clarify. I just got FIOS installed back in May 2016. Originally, it was supposed to be installed in March but then Verizon workers went on strike.

Anyway, before getting FIOS and the Quantum Modem/Router, I had DSL Linksy router. I attempted to access/utilize the wireless capabilities of the old DSL router and lo-and behold it worked. I was able to use the "Cast to" feature with the Samsung Smart TV. Everything was working great. Then I got the FIOS Quantum Modem/Router and now not only did the Wifi disappear from my Windows 10 "Settings" but the WLAN Network adapter is also missing from my "Device Manager". Basically I need to know if this is FIOS Modem/Router or something with my motherboard. I don't know if it's the motherboard but I'm not ruling the possibility out that it could be. I say this because there wasn't an issue with WLAN Adapter missing from the "Device Manager" before I got new so-called improved FIOS Quantum Modem/Router. Regardless of how things shake out I would appreciate any help that you can provide.

P.S. I might not get back to you quickly as sometimes when I get home from work the last thing I feel like doing to getting on the computer.

Hi there!

This seems like the most random, specific fault with my computer (well, laptop), but it exists.

When I'm on the same (Wifi) network as a Mac (it's only happened with a Mac), my computer, running on Windows 7, restarts. It BSODs for about a quarter of a second before restarting.

I can't see that it is damaging my computer in any way, but it is not fun having to wait for it to reboot, and if it restarted during an update, it could damage the computer.

On restarting, the computer says something about Data Execution Prevention (or something along those lines)

Specifications of my laptop:
- It is a Sony VAIO NW20EF (in silver :P)
- It is running Windows 7

Further spec: Sony Vaio NW20EF/S specifications | Expert Reviews

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Can you provide us a JCGriff report as instructed here? This should give us some info on the case. Though I can say it primarily has to do with your TCP/IP stack, so you will wanna try and find if there's any network driver updates, as well as motherboard driver updates and any BIOS update as well.

I'm currently running Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3.

Currently using firefox 3.5.5. On random occasions ,random pages will randomly not load with the loading circle spinning but nothing happening. When I click refresh, the page might load or might not. For Msn, i have version Windows live Messenger 2009. On random occasions, i will not receive or my messages will not be sent out. The problem will go away and come back consistently.

I have shaw high speed internet directly connected to the modem. I tried calling them and letting them take a look into my computer through the internet. When they were searching theought, the problem did not occur at that moment, therefor i couldn't not prove that i have a problem.

I tried scanning my computer with Avira AntiVir Personal- Free version and Malwarebytes' Anit-Malware Free version all uptodate, but nothing gets picked up.

This problem started to occur 2-3 weeks ago, and i could not occur what i did during that time.

My computer has recently started to drop the WiFi connection, reconnect after a while and at times, not even detect my WiFi connection for a while. Then repeats the process for no apparent reason, I'm not sure when exactly thus problem started as I had been using Ethernet cable up until last week. I am certain that this is not related to my router as 3-4 other devices in my house can access the internet perfectly fine.

I have tried doing a power cycle of the router, restarting the notebook, re-installing/updating drivers and cmd ipocnfig /refresh (and other commands along those lines)

My notebook model is the hp pavilion 3132tx- windows 7 64bit, intel I7, 8gb ram and uses a ralink RT3090 network card.

Ps: the problem appears to be alright if I use older versions of the driver (have tried and the default one which came with the notebook [which is older than it]) however, I would prefer not to have to use the older versions as task manager says that its link speed is only 39 mbps whereas versions would show 79 mbps

Thankyou in advance.

A:Notebook drops wifi connection randomly- Ralink network card

It sounds to me like a signal problem. A competing signal drowning out your wireless signal can cause these kinds of random losses.

To test for this try this program:
inSSIDer for Home – Discover The Wi-Fi Around You | MetaGeek
It will tell you if you have a stronger signal in your area that is interfering with the channel.

Hi there,

I bought today Lenovo Y50-70, it was without OS, so i installed windows 7 on it. Now im facing
problem, where at internet access there are no available wifi connections. So i installed WLAN driver from
the Lenovo support, also didn't help. I don't know much about drivers, but it seems that under device manager
-> Network Adapters is wireless network adapter or something like that missing and im out of ideas how to
fix it.
Btw, under network adapters are only bluetooth devices and my wireless usb device.

A:Network Adapter (no WiFi)

Tried Fn + F5?

Any option to enable/disable WLAN in BIOS?

My desktop encountered some random BSODs after installing the Wifi adapter.

Also, my desktop had random freezes too and I'm not sure if the freezes and BSODs are related.

I've attached the zipped file for the BSODs.

Alright, so sometimes I get network crashes and disabling network adapters appearing randomly, but mostly in minecraft.
I have an HP Pavilion p6-2052sc and I just reformatted my pc and downloaded the 802.11n wireless adapter + some other adapter.

I'm not sure if it is the drivers/adapters, if anybody knows please tell me what drivers/adapters HP Pavilion p6-2052sc has by default. (Only network related or something)

I would like to upgrade my current network adapter in my SL510 Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [Condor Peak]and the reason I want to do that is because I would like to be able to connect to 5Ghz wireless network.  Now, I am aware that there is whitelist which shows me what adapters I can install but I dont know how to access whitelist inside BIOS.Once I am in BIOS I dont see anywhere whitelist. So I guess my question is what type of network adapter I can buy to replace my current one? Thanks

Got a very annoying problem - my wifi network adapter (Atheros AR5007EG wirelss network adapter) works just fine for about 50 minutes - and then it shuts down and disappears as if it's not installed on the computer. To make it work, I have to shut down the computer and turn it on again.
Does anyone know the reason for this annoying problem?

I've just bought a halfly-new mini-ITX PC.
The specs are:

New hardwares:
Motherboard: ASUS H81I-PLUS
Kingston HyperX 16GB Fury 1600MHz
CM Gemini CPU Cooler
Raijintek Case

Used hardwares:
I7-4770k processor
OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD
Corsair CX500

I have re-installed the windows for several times, tried out Win10, but I got the same problem: I get random BSOD's. I have brought into a service where several stress tests have been run on it for 2 days and they did not got BSOD. After i got it home, plugged it in, ran AIDA64 stresstest for about 1-2 hours, no errors occured, but when i downloaded steam, started to download a bigger game, a BSOD occured in the first five minutes. After that, i pulled out the ethernet cable, ran Aida again, no problems, but when i started a download, i got a BSOD almost immidiately.

Nothing has been overclocked, the BIOS is on default.

There might be 2 problems IMO:
- either i got a faulty motherboard
- I've red on several forums that my psu might not be compatible with Haswell

I have attached the log files.

This problem is frustrating me a lot now. After upgrading to WIndows 10, I have noticed that my Wi-Fi connection frequently drops without any pattern whatsover. It just drops randomly and re-connects after 2-3 minutes. If I attempt to connect to the network in that period of 2-3 minutes, it will sometimes connect, and sometimes fail. I have 2 other laptops (1 of which has Windows 10) and they don't experience this problem.

I have searched online and tried tons of things. Nothing has fixed the problem so far! Below are all the things I tried. Please help if you have any suggestions or if there are known issues with Windows 10.

1. Updated the driver software
2. Uninstalled the driver and re-installed it
3. Unchecked the setting of 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' in Power Management of the wireless network adapter.
4. Uninstalled anti-virus to eliminate anti-virus as the issue.
5. Disabled 'Wifi Sense' options of 'Connect to suggested hotspots' & 'Connect to networks shared by my contacts'.

I am clueless as to what the issue is. Please help!

I bought this laptop in May 2015 with Windows 7 OS installed and took advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10.Everything has been great, and I love Windows 10 up until a recent system update.Since then, every time I use the laptop the wifi connection keeps dropping out.The wifi symbol in the system tray goes greyed out with a star on it.If I right click and select troubleshoot, the following problems are found        Problem with wireless adapter or access point                              Detected                     ! Events I 'believe' occured before problem:Went to bed, my unplugged PC went dead. Woke up, plugged it in, turned it on; no wifi networks available. Only source of internet is tethering, currently. Things I tried:Using DriverTalent (All drivers are perfect), using Troubleshoot problems, restoring PC to an earlier date. Under Network Adapters all I see is: Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller and Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more information, just ask. Thanks!

My desktop computer loses connection regularly and I cannot locate as to why. I have many other devices throughout the house at various locations which maintain a connection fine.

When the connection drops it still displays I am connected, but there is clearly no connectivity.

I've tried toggling between two devices, one an eternal PCI adapter and the other a USB adapter. I get interruptions on both, so my conclusion is there must be a setting causing this.

The desktop has been moved to other locations just in case of interference, and I've tried channel swapping as well.

A:Network interruptions with both internal and usb wifi adapter.

I would suggest choosing a single wifi device and uninstalling any wifi utilities that you have installed, or drivers for any other wifi device (including disconnecting them). Then follow this tutorial to see if it helps at all with the single wifi device you have installed (created by Dinesh): Internet Troubleshooting Guide

Taken the IDE hard drive (with Windows 8.1 installed) out of HP Pavilion 15-e72sa laptop and replaced it with a Crucial SSD drive, then installed Windows 7 but cannot get an internet connection. There are yellow warning markers in Device Manager next to the Network Adapter and Ethernet Controller. The laptop has a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bgn Wifi Adapter for which I can only find a driver which is for Windows 8. Tried and tried to find a suitable Windows 7 driver version to no avail. I would really appreciate any advice.

A:Can't Find Network Wifi Adapter Driver

qurios, welcome to the windows 7 forum. Have you looked at the HP website for the model of laptop?
they usually have drivers for most OS's. Sometimes the Vista driver will work on windows 7 if it is an older laptop.

you need the motherboard drivers as well as the network device drivers and video card drivers.

I have a pretty new ASUS SonicMaster laptop.

Worked great for about a month.

Then no WIFI. Checked device manager and only the Family Ethernet device was present.

Then a few reboots later it appeared again. Since then it just randomly appears and goes missing.

It's a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485

Driver version is

Driver date is 3/25/2014

Windows says the driver is up to date. Tried installing Windows 10. Same problem. Tried a fresh install of Win 8.1. Same problem. The laptop has barely left my table so hasn't been knocked around at all.

Any help much appreciated. I don't really want to buy a WIFI dongle so would like to get the laptop sorted. Thanks in advance.

A:WIFI Network Adapter Keeps Randomly Going Missing

Boot into Setup (Bios) go to the Advanced tab, go to Onboard Device Configuration/Onboard WLAN, if it is disabled, using your Enter and arrow keys, Enable it. Save and Exit. If the device is already enabled, boot into Windows go to the Device Manager go up to the Toolbar to View/Show Hidden Devices. If your Atheros WiFi has a red X (disabled) Enable it. If you continue to have problems, since this is new it is under warranty you can send it back to fix for free.
