Ram memory configuration question

Q: Ram memory configuration question

Can I add the following ram board to my existing [email protected] with CL2.5?
PC2700 @333mgz with CL3
I have checked with my computer manufacturer and they state that my system will accept 1GB.

Preferred Solution: Ram memory configuration question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Ram memory configuration question

If you're existing memory is clocked @ 266mhz than you may indeed be able to use the PC2700 333mhz memory but it will run at 266mhz. It really all depends on your motherboard.

I just recently purchased a 1gb stick of Kingston ddr400 Ram for my pc.

Currently i have 2 x 512mb sticks in my 1st and 3rd slot of my MB. I currently use the Asus A7N8X-D Board. 3 Memory slots total. What would you suggest me to do for the order of my memory or does it even matter ?

Slot 1 : 512mb
Slot 2 : Empty
Slot 3 : 512mb

Eventually going to be 3gb Memory but Im not the best in these types of configurations.

Thanks ahead of time guys.

I need to set up three user accounts on two computers the accounts on each computer is going to be monitored.
Each user will be assigned access for certain folder or files and certain applications, like internet explorer.
And all usb ports and dvd drive will be blocked. Only the admin will be allow to have full access.

So i need to do something that allow ( managers) to monitor employees activity on the system during working hours.

On one pc is windows xp pro on the other os windows 7 home premium.

Any idea how i can acomplish this task?

I.was thinking of group policy on both computers but on home premium there is not group policy.

Also the users will be using almost all the same programs and files just the with different information.

Thank you in advance.

But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the
Local Security Policy so you may need to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for that.

This is easier to control with a server like Windows Server 2003 or 2008.

I am thinking of purchasing an additional 2 sticks of 16GB RAM for the P51. I understood that the 8GB that comes by default with the P51 is mounted under the keyboard. Question 1: Can I have a 40GB configuration? (with the 8GB mounted under the keyboard, and the two additional sticks mounted in the slots to be found underneath the laptop). Yes, I know, I will be taking a speed hit on the 8GB stick of about 15% speed loss. Question 2: If the answer to Question 1 is yes, then where should the 8GB stick ideally be located? I am thinking to have the laptop use firstly the 32 GB of RAM from the two bought sticks, and only if it runs out of RAM on those, to use the 8GB (which would be better than swapping on HDD). Thanks!

A:Memory configuration for P51

The answer to the first question is yes, and I believe the memory is configured dynamically and "it" decides how to use the space.  I think the 15% figure is more theoretical than actual.  I doubt you would find anything you would notice.

I am going to upgrade my system with a new motherboard and an AMD 939 pin Athlon 64 3500+

My question is should I use 2 X 256MB memory sticks or 1 X 512 MB. Will it make any difference to performance?

2 x 256MB will allow you to run in a Dual Channel configuration that will improve memory bandwidth and therefore improve performance.

I currently have an xps 8920 with 2*4 GB memory installed in the slots nr 1 and 3. I would like to upgrade to 16GB. According to the official manual it seems not being possible to install another 2*4 GB dimms to be installed in slots 2 and 4?!
However Ive seen from the forum here that someone has installed 48GB, which should not be doable by the manual, but still it has worked all fine!?
Has anyone tried to add another 2*4 to get a total of 16GB, and has it worked?
For many other computers Ive been through Ive never seen this issue to arise, having you to ?ditch? the memories, and not being able to install extra of the very same size... If I would have known this from buying the  computer I would have gone for 16GB directly....
My idea is to buy and install the original Dell 4GB modules that are recommended for the xps 8920.

A:Memory Configuration for xps 8920

Specs say:  Configurations supported-  8 GB, 16 GB, 24 GB, 32 and 64 GB.
Don't know why it says 16 GB = 2x8GB, with no mention of 4x4GB. Wonder if they just neglected to add that...??
Many users around here buy RAM from crucial.com. Aside from being less expensive, if they recommend modules for a specific PC model, they guarantee they'll work or they take them back.
And I've pinged my Dell tech contact for clarification....

Memory Problem

I decided to add some more memory to my 256MBs, so I ordered the exact same module as I already have and it turned up today. I installed it and swiched my pc on. The first screen came up and it informed me that it had tested the memory and that it was OK and also that there was now 512MB of ram. Then it went to the next screen which had some said about Highpoint Technologies and there it stopped.

I took the new module out and re-booted and everything was normal. Then, I put the new module in on its own and re-booted and everything was fine. So now I'm stuck as to what to do. I know that my motherboard is capable of taking up to 768MB of ram so that was not the problem and it seemed that both modules were fine. I had also enabled ECC in my BIOS as both modules are ECC.

So, if anyone can help with this matter I would really appreciate it.

hello and welcome,

Generally boards that support different ram types do not support using the different types of ram at the same time.

I would get rid of the EDO's and just put the 2 big sticks of SDram in the machine (128mg) should be fine if your running Win98 or ME.

Hello all,

I'm going to play the local idiot (which isn't too hard), and ask a stupid question.

I have a Gigabyte GA-7N400-L mb and am wondering about the memory configuration. It is capable of 3 Gigs total memory in 4 slots of 184 pin. I just need to know how it can be configured; i.e., two (2) 512mb dimms in which slots, 1gig dimms in which other slots? Also, high density or low density?? The 4 slots are colored, two (2) orange and two (2) blue. My 512 MB is situated in the two (2) orange slots of 256 MB dimms.

Like I said, stupid question but I'd like to know before I purchased PC3200 400MHz FSB memory and don't know where to place the dimms correctly and find out I fried the memory/motherboard.

I have an Inspiron 1100 with 512k (2 chips). A couple of months ago, it started displaying a ?Memory configuration has changed? message when it booted. Sometimes it found 512k, but mostly 256. I swapped the chips, eraser?d them both, tried one chip in Dimm A, then B, swapped the other chip into A & B with no change. With both chips installed, it only sees 256k. The chips are original from Dell. It will only see 256k no matter what. I have not changed any hardware or software, although I refreshed XP (SP2) just to be sure. If I just need a new MB, so be it! I am assuming that you didn't make any changes to your hardware recently. If you didn't, this can be a sign that your RAM has failed. You should confirm this by testing your RAM using Memtest86.

I have 4 DDR slots on my Motherboard. They are various speeds, with the slowest one being PC2100, however the mainboard has a memory clock which i set to 333mhz (or PC2700). Thats not the problem.

I can set them up with 256MB x 4 sticks of RAM for a total of 1 GB, and have the dual-channeled.
I can set them up with 256MB x 3 and 512MB x 1.

Would it be faster if I dual channeled all of the RAM together or add an extra 256 MB of RAM and NOT dual channel them?

I am looking to purchase a Dell XPS 8920 to replace a aging Dell XPS. The only options that they offer are 8GB and 16GB of base memory. The XPS 8920 indicates that it is has a maximum memory capability of 64GB with a 16GB memory module in each of the four slots.
Does Dell provide a single 16GB memory module or 2 - 8GB memory module when 16GB is selected?

A:XPS 8920 16GB Memory Configuration

I have a Dell XPS 8910 with 16GB of memory and it came as a single 16GB memory module, so it runs in single channel mode. If you research single channel vs dual channel there is not much performance difference unless you are doing serious simulation/parametric analysis. On the plus side, if you plan to increase memory to 64GB for example you will not be wasting two 8GB memory modules.

Hi all,
I'm not new to the precision range having had several Precision laptops however it was now time to change for a desktop as it never leaves the desk.
I've bought a T3620 and want to do some due dillegence in checking everything is setup correctly before doing a final clean install.  The first question is regarding memory.
The system has 32GB memory (2x16gb).  The board as 4 slots - Dimm 1 to Dimm 4 in order of
Dimm 3, Dimm 1, Dimm 4 and Dimm 2
And finally the two 16GB modules are in Dimm 1 and Dimm 4
Colours are: 3 and 4 are black slots, 1 and 2 are white and so in this case, I have 1 module in a black slot and the other in a white.
My understanding is they should be under the colour pair or is that wrong?
Thanks in advance

I have 2 x 512 mb DDR 400 in my system running Dual and I have added another 2 x 512 mb DDR 400 ...

Now I have a few questions if any one can answer as Im a noob to Memory etc etc ..

As Im aware the Asus A8V Deluxe has a problem when running 4 x 512 sticks, it some how reduces its speed from DDR 400 to DDR333 as seen on the Asus Web site ..

Why does A8V Deluxe automatically down-grade from DDR400 to DDR333 when four DIMMs of memory are plugged?Click to expand...

Answer *

It is a protective function when system cannot boot up or any instable symptoms due to memory itself. Please enter BIOS setting and manually adjust memory frequency to 200MHz.Click to expand...

So , Im unsure as to manually set my clock speed in the A8V Deluxe becuase it doesnt really make it easy for me. Ive tried reading this forum thread Here

They talk about setting the command rate to 2T and set the RAM speed manually to fix the problem... Im not sure how...

their is a noticable difference becuase when I run the Hl2 / CS S Stress test I loose 20 fps overall. So I guess If I was to change the Memory clock Speeds etc etc it would improve ..

Also The ram I have is off different Latency.. 2 @ 2.5 Latency and 2 stick of 3 Latency... Does this make much difference knowing it runs a slower speed...

Thx for any help/

I just installed a new ASUS P4S800D-X motherboard and I am experiencing some problems with the memory which are affecting boot ability of the machine.

I have two 512MB 400MHz DDR Ram chips and one 1GB 400MHz chip installed. All chips are PC3200.

The motherboard has 4 memory slots and they are color coded, two blue and two black. I have installed the two 512MB chips onto the two blue slots and the 1GB chips onto one of the black slots as you are supposed to.

When the machine boots I get the boot error beep and can't get all the way through the BIOS boot. If I shut down and reboot or press the restart button a few times I can eventually get a boot that gets as far as a BIOS error message that says "Overclocking failed! Please enter setup to reconfigure your system. CPU Fan Error! Press F1 to Run Setup. Press F2 to load default values and continue."

I normally proceed by pressing F1 because I don't want to erase all my BIOS settings. Then I click the "Exit and Discard Changes" option from the BIOS menu and exit out of the BIOS.

Then the machine will complete the boot through the BIOS and into Windows XP and all 2GB of RAM runs no problem.

Obviously though something is wrong if I have to power up and down 2-3 times before I can get a boot up that brings me as far as an error message from the BIOS.

Also, getting a BIOS error message on every boot is obviously not right.

I am thinking hopefully there are some settings in the B... Read more

Please enter Setup Memory Info details.

I then press F2 and look at my memory it says

A:I installed new ram - Alert! Memory configuration mismatch!

Thirty-two bit cannot use all 4gigs without a special instruction set. Yours probably saw 3.25 gigs and the other missing RAM is probably for shared memory on the video card.

It is perfectly normal and there isnt anything you can do in 32 bit. You could upgrade to 64 to utilize the added RAM but 64 bit uses more resources so the move would probably be a wash. See the snip of my system. I have 4 gigs installed and my system can only see 3.3 of it

Is this the solution to my problem?

Hi All,
I recently obtained 16 GB (2 x 8GB) of memory in the hopes of expanding the capacity of my T3610 workstation, which contains already 16 GB (4 x 4GB). I am having a lot of trouble figuring out the correct way to arrange this in 8 DIMM slots in order to obtain an acceptable configuration.
My understanding is that this machine is quad channel. The manual gives some (very vague) guidance as to how the memory should be arranged:
"Memory modules of different sizes can be mixed (for example, 2 GB and 4 GB). But, all populated channels must have identical configurations."
Does this mean that different channels can accept different sizes but within each channel only the same size can be used (example acceptable configuration: ch1 2 x 4GB, ch2 2 x 8GB) or that different sizes can be mixed within channels but each channel must have the same mix of sizes (example acceptable configuration: ch1 1 x 4 GB & 1 x 8 GB, ch2 1 x 4 GB & 1 x 8 GB)?
Additionally, it is not clearly indicated either in the manual or on the motherboard which channel is which. The slots are simply numbered DIMM1, DIMM2, ... , DIMM8. Should I assume that the channels go from bottom to top (when the workstation is standing) i.e. 1 & 5 = channel A, 3 & 7 = channel B, 8 & 4 = channel C, 6 & 2 = channel D?
The non-functioning configurations I have so far tried are: 8 GB in 1 & 3 and 4 GB in 2 & 4; 8 GB in 1 & 2 and 4 GB in 3 & 4. These were guesses more than anything... Read more

Hi to all on Dell's Forum:
I am new on this forum and its first time to ask a question on any forum.
My first question: What are enhancement in dell t3500 new bios update for the whole hardware in dell t3500?
i.e "A17"
My second question: Does Dell t3500 can support pc3 12800 NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 like Corsair Vengeance or kingston hyperX. Does A17 Bios can run pc3 12800 at 1600 MHz, because dell bios are not too flexible, I have googling too much and I mostly found that dell t3500 only support 1066 and 1333 MHz. Some particular  processors are only support 1333Mhz like xeon W3580 etc, rest of all processors operate with 1066 Mhz.
But I have little doubt when I have opened these links:

I have mostly used this pc for home tasks like gaming, internet, office works, music etc. As a gaming rig I want to upgrade more memory for gaming with non ecc pc3 12800 at 1600 module.
Please help me in that issue. All your kind comments, assistance and suggestions are highly appreciated.

A:Dell Precision T3500 Memory Configuration

BIOS: I'm not certain of the enhancements, but I'm quite certain updating to the latest BIOS is recommended.Much has happened since the T3500 was made- operating systems, commonality of SSD's and etc.
Memory:  The T3500 may use up to 24GB ECC or non DDR3 ECC RAM at speeds up to 1333.:
As far as I know, DDR3 1600 speed memory if used may be recognized, but would run at 1333 as the Xeon 5600-series support 1066 and 1333 speeds.   In my experience, the best way to ensure successful memory upgrades is to concult the specifications- see above, and then remove a RAM module and record the exact information on the RAM used in the system. You will see if it's single or dual ranked, that's the "1R X8 or "2R x8", ECC or non-ECC, and if it's ECC, if registered or unbuffered. If it's ECC and used with the X58 chipset which uses triple-channel RAM,  I have a vague memory that you need to use "registered" memory which was more common in servers.  I've never used non-ECC RAM,  but I believe that ECC and non-ECC use different slots, and you would have to use whichever type the slots mounted on the motherboard require.
If the RAM is ECC, the best specification might be something like: "1Rx8 PC3-10600R"- single rank DDR3 1333 registered ECC.  Single rank is a bit faster as the signal is passing through fewer chips. That is n... Read more

I have a question concerning the configuration of the memory modules. According to the manual, it says to use the same type of module in slot A1 and B1 and A2 and B2 for dual channel. I presently have 512mb in A1 & B1 so is this considered a 512mb setup or 1mb? I was thinking of adding another pair of 512mb or 1 pair of 1gb to increase the memory, so if I added another pair of 1gb ram, would it be better to install the 1gb in A1 & B1 and the pair of 512mb in A2 & B2 and would this still be considered dual channel? Would it make a difference? TIA

A:Asus P4C800-E Memory Configuration Ques.

If you installed the 1gb in A1 & B1 and the pair of 512mb in A2 & B2 it would still be considered dual channel if the bios was set to use dual channel.

Whether you installed the pair of 1gb sticks in the A1 and B1, or the A2 and B2, should not make any difference, and should still be dual channel if the bios is set to use dual channel.

Straight to the point, I had two G.Skill 2Gb RAM's(1333Mhz and 9-9-9-24 [F3-10666CL9D-4GBRL](4gb because its a 2+2 module), of which one got bad. So consequently I bought a new single 4gb G.Skill RAM. (1600Mhz and 9-9-9-24)

The problem arrives when I try to use both the memories together, i.e., the new 4gb one and the single 2Gb good one left from the 2+2. I am able to run them separately, but when I put them together the system wont boot.

Firstly, can I use them together?
Further, I got a notion from the web that it will in fact lower the performance.

A:Hybrid memory configuration. Unable to boot while using different RAMs

I've never been successful using two different styles of RAM sticks. I have mixed brands but they needed to be the same size and rated speed. Just run the 4gb stick, maybe sell the 2gb toward a second 4gb.

i7 processor extreme? (thats what Dell is calling it) 8core
6 1GB DDR3 Memory sticks
Gigabit Ethernet
Windows Vista Home Prem. 64bit upgraded to Windows 7 Home Prem. 64Bit

Ok in the original Vista and now in the Windows 7 the customer upgraded to it shows in the properties box and in task manager that 1.4 gb of memory is available. When I tested Ram I pulled all but 1 stick. in the Black slot closest to the proc I inserted 1 gb stick and booted. I get 2 beeps pause 2 beeps as if there is no ram inserted. I installed a 4Gb stick in that slot and get the beeps. in the next slot which is white it boots but says 4GB installed 1.4gb usable.
the i7 8core shows as a dual core.

I swapped out an i5 dual core and it shows a single core

I ran an MRI Hardware test on it (Eurosoft pc-check 7.03) and it shows no errors and ran as a 8 core. I pulled the heatsink to replace the thermal paste and checked the numbers. it is indeed an i7 extreme 8 core proc.

With all of that I am going to assume that the motherboard is hosed. I just am hoping for either a confirmation or a direction for testing.

A:Dell XPS 435mt Shows odd Memory and proc configuration

The Dell community (users helping users forum) would be the best place since there are people there familiar with Dell hardware.

The desktop hardware section would be the place to start.
Desktop - Dell Community

I used to work the Dell forums (10 years) and Dell's have had a history of memory compatibility with non-Dell branded memory. For that reason we always recommended Crucial Memory as it was guaranteed to work in Dell's. Other brands will work but its hit or miss.

Can I mix single sided and double sided ram in this model? or rams has to be all either single sided or double sided? Can I populate the white slots only with identical rams. has the ram to be of same make or can be of different make but same capacity? I installed two identical ram 4GB each in the white slots, the PC booted with no problem or error, but after few uses it started to have BSOD blue screen with error MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, which was repeating, the only way to overcome this I return to my previuos installed ram, does this mean rams are faulty,or incompatible, or caused windows registry error, or had to be installed in the black slots? How can I populate 3 X 2GB rams and 1 4GB rams in this model?and will expect best performance as dual channel?Any help and information is very much appreciatedthank you

hello, I got the following issue: After install memory upgrade (from 4gb single module to 8gb two modules) ive got the idea to higher the useable memory for integrated graphic-core of i3 cpu. So I went into bios to those configurations where I highered the memory size to maximum. It where two kinds of. I highered first option from 256mb to 1024mb and second option from 64mb to 512mb. I also changed some other options for experimentation just in this section like background light from pwm to gmbus and a few other options. I didn't change any frequencies or voltages. after I made these changes I got a bad feeling, but I thought it wouldn't be a problem to just reset the bios. so after save configurations and restart. I just bought a 2GB DDR2-667 for my laptop. I originally had two 1GB DDR2-533. My question is this, should I go for the faster 2GB or slower 3GB option?
Note: FSB speed is 667 MHz.

Benchmarking tools gave me inconclusive results. Any one can suggest a good memory benchmark? Anyways the comparison I got was using Everest.

Hi guys, some quick questions about LAN IP configuration:

I have a DSL modem has an ethernet port, and a USB port, to allow for a second computer to connect to the internet. However, I have a netgear 4 port switch LAN/WLAN router, of which I connect one desktop computer to the ethernet port, my laptop using the WLAN, and one computer connected using USB (through modem, not router). Thus, the last computer has a different IP address (assigned by DSL company). My other two computers have IPs assigned by the router, thus, are able to share through Itunes...

...Which leads me to the question: is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa, as I want to allow my Itunes music to be accessible on all three computers. Thanks in advance, and happy thanksgiving.

p.s. I know you're wondering: but you have three more switches on the router, why not use it..well, this last one doesn't have LAN card.

A:ip configuration question

What you should of done is connect all the comptuers to the LAN ports on the router (except the laptop) and share internet connection that way. As far as iTune, you might need to open up the port in the firewall software on your router (check the manual for more details).

Q: "is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa?"
A: No

Network cards are very cheap now, you should use that. Much faster than USB.

I think this is a dumb question but is there any reason my Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P MBO will work at 32 bit but not at 64 bit? If I configure at 32 bit it works fine but when I go to 64 bit it gives me all kinds of strange problems. My OS is Win 7 Home Premium. I want to use 64 bit because I have 8GB of memory. I've tried this several times and can't make it work successfully.

A:MBO configuration question.

Well, it could depend on exactly what "strange problems" occur, so lets start there. Can you give a list of what issues you are having when you try to run Windows 7 64-bit.

I have an unallocated 1Mb partition as the first partition (according to Easus) on my laptop drive, in addition to the recommended reserved, system and EFI partitions. Could this extraneous partition be the reason for my inability to restore from an image backup? (Restores fail after making my laptop unbootable)

A:GPT configuration question

No - this partition is only to ensure partitions are properly aligned (especially for ssds).

There is something wrong with your image backup.

Do you have more than one hard drive installed?

This should be simple, but I cannot find details on whether or not this is possible.   What I want (end-state) is a P51 with the 256Gb SSD as the boot drive and the 500Gb spinning drive as the data drive. When I look at the ordering page, I can get both those drives, but there is no way to specify the SSD as the boot drive.  Alternatives are:1. Buy the P51 with just the 500Gb non-SSD, install something like a Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD myself, migrate/reinstall Win10 from the non-SSD to the SSD, and tell the BIOS that the SSD is now the boot drive.Pro - cheaper.Con - more effort and there's always hiccups finding the right drivers.Assumption - the P51 supports the Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD as a boot drive.2. Buy the P51 with just the 256Gb SSD (so it's automatically the boot drive), then buy another 2.5" SSD or non-SSD drive (and the associated caddy kit from Lenovo) and install that.Pro - no reinstall issues.Con - More expensive since I need to buy the larger data drive ($80-$100 and it's free in option 1), plus the Lenovo SSD is about $90 more than option 1. So, can I specify the SSD as the boot drive if I order the P51 with two drives, or do I have to go to alternative 1 or 2? If so, which one is generally recommended? Have I missed something critical? Thanks, ~rick

Quick question. When I go into system configuration into the 'Startup' tab, it shows programs that are not on my computer anymore (at least I think). Is there anyway to get rid of these? I follow the file link and can't find them so I believe they are removed. Just wondering how to delete them from the Startup tab.

Open registry editor and browse to HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Curent Version>explorer>Run. Delete this Run key.

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Linksys wireless router so that I can finally get wifi in my home. The computer I'm on now is going to "host" the router. I use verizon dsl, and a dsl modem. I correctly plugged the Linksys in all of it's intended ports, but Windows Vista doesn't pick it up. I "googled" around a good bit for the solution. I basically found out that the CD with the Linksys is useless, and I have to allow my modem to connect itself and the linksys at the same time manually (configuring). To do this, apparently, I have to get my gateway address (which would be, and type that into my web browser (being firefox). The Westell site comes up with my connection info. - I "log in" with "admin" "admin" as the user and pass. Now I have the administration to change my modem and connection settings, WHAT SHOULD I DO FROM HERE?

Thank you all very much,

A:Linksys Configuration Question.

That would be unusual that your LinkSys disk is useless, because most will get you started in VISTA as well as WXP.
There are updates at the LinkSys site for each operating system. You will benefit from going to the LinkSys Support site, while knowing your model number and version number, then download and print the Quick Install Guide, the long User Guide in PDF format, and the latest drivers... which may be about 36 MB or more.
Then follow the instructions in the quick install or user guide after you install the latest driver... you are on the right track... you may want to talk to tech support of your high speed connection to see what they require, codes wise... as they vary from location to location.

Can McAfee Virusscan enterprise 8.7i schedule a scan without ePolicy Orchestrator?
I finally got it the way I want it except the virusscan console Full Scan and on-demand
scan properties have the schedule button grayed-out. I only see Administrator from the
Windows XP w/ sp3 login screen in safe mode and it has no password. I didn't get ePolicy
Orchestrator with my McAfee install and there is no Hub or Server here so I guess I am
the Administrator. I set up this machine and gave the user I set it up with administrator
privileges, This is XP Home so I have no users and groups button in my Manage MSC.
Am I out of luck, or will I just have to either get ePolicy Orchestrator or run on-demand
scans manually, when I am about to be away from the machine? Thx paj692

A:How to (McAfee configuration question)

I installed McAfee Enterprise 8.7i on my XP Pro (w/ SP3) and ran the setup using "Run
as" Administrator. I had to set up a password for the Administrator account so the
program would run, but with XP Pro, that is no problem. The schedule button is not greyed
out like it is on the XP Home (w/ sp3) system using the exact same installer. I did not
install it using "Run As" the Administrator Account. I'd like to, but the problem is this; I
can't run the installer from safe mode since the installer service is not running and I get
this error when trying to run in regular mode (Run As Administrator). Unable to log on:
Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank password (That's not
it!), logon hour restrictions, (probably not it) or policy restriction has been enforced. Any
body know a work around for this. It would be good to know how to run something in XP
Home as the Administrator without having to go into safe mode. paj692

I just completed the download for the COMDO antivirus program and each time open  my computer I'm greeted with a huge pop-up box that reads:
I'm wondering if this is for real......does it really need to be configured to my computer, or is this simply a bait tactic to try to sell me something.
And if this is simply bait, is there a way to block it from popping up?

I'm a Netscape user from before there was an IE and when Bill Gates was saying the internet was a fad that mass interest in it would pass.

I have used Netscape 7 for quite a while and downloaded version 8 today. I am trying to customize the tool-bars. I would like to move or re-move Google, Security Center, etc. on the navigation bar.

I would also like to remove the add-bookmark item from the personal tool-bar.

Does anyone know how to do this?

A:Netscape 8 Configuration Question

It doesn't look like the Google search field can be removed.

To remove the Security Center and Bookmark items from the toolbar, go to View > Toolbars > Customize. Then drag the unwanted item from the toolbar to the customize window.

If I find a way to get rid of the Google search, I'll repost here.
