Scanners won't work, DDS won't work, and all programs that involve removing files becomes blocked after being used once

Q: Scanners won't work, DDS won't work, and all programs that involve removing files becomes blocked after being used once

Friend's computer started up with a Critical Warning image and telling him to download this antispyware thing in order to remove it. Some files that I found connected with this are: FNTCACHE, critical_warning.html, AVR09, winhelper.dll, and 41. I tried running DDS but to no success. Same with Rootkit Repealer. I managed to install and run Hitman Pro 3.5 and Malwares Bytes Antimalware, but both were stopped after a few seconds within scanning. Afterwards, they didn't work at all. Couldn't install Superantispyware or CCleaner. Spybot Search and Destroy was changed to read only and Ad-Aware wouldn't work. Any suggestions? Is there any program out there that manages to get rid of this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The problem is that many programs (such as all IE and other browers) cannot access the network.
But let me explain before you get the wrong idea.

I am quite familiar with networking in general, so I can tell you that the outgoing network traffic is not even reaching the network hardware interface. In looking into the problem, I am using Wireshark to monitor network traffic. What happens is that some programs can send packets out (and thus receive responses) but others cannot. For example, anti-virus programs cannot update themselves, but PUTTY can reach anything I send it to.

Found the answer, due to a hint given by Jakub on the SuperUser forum.
The problem was that McAfee was messed up.
Don't know how, hope it does not happen again.
Anyway, even though I had removed McAfee, there were still pieces of it left.
The solution was to use the MCPR.exe tool from McAfee to really, truly completely remove McAfee.
MCPR = McAfeeCustomerProductRemoval too.

Hi,
I started to notice this problem when I tried to access the iTunes home store but kept denying me because there was no internet connection. I could use the program fine otherwise. However, Firefox and IE connected to the internet with no problems, as does MIRC.

It wasn't a big deal until Firefox started crashing quite a bit, at random sites for no reason. I upgraded, then firefox did not connect to the internet at all (though there was a connection present). I went to the options and changed to "auto detect proxies" and still have the same problem of crashing. I downloaded Opera and it works fine except occasional crashes. I was told to update Flash and I did, then Java, but the Java also tells me that there is no internet connection (or some darn thing).

I tried to run Malwarebyte's Anti Malware but it simply does not start up. I click it several times and it won't even start up. I've rebooted and it won't work. I don't uninstall it because I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to redownload it. This is because I've tried virtually every virus scanner and they all say there's an internet connection problem or some other error (They're not specific).

I've tried the Windows firewall and it still doesn't help.

I'm worried that there might be a virus, although I've not seen any other signs of a virus. I"m also using a Netgear router (have been for years).

Hello, Recently, as of last wednesday, my computer was infected by the "Pro XP Antivirus 2010" virus, or av.exe.
As I had no antivirus software that was functional at that time, I quickly managed to download a 90 day trial version of Norton Antivirus and get it running before the virus did too much damage, and Norton seems to have successfully resolved and removed the threat off my system. It also removed 3 different Trojans which had been present since December, some adware and some spyware off the system. (My fault for never renewing my Antivirus subscription and being without an antivirus program for about 2-3 years. Haha)

Now that my computer seems to be secure, I find I am unable to open any of my programs, (except IE) instead getting either an "Application not Found" error or a "run with..." window. The programs, however, are still intact, because I am able to start for example Microsoft Word by selecting a word document and running it with Word, and a few other programs in this same fashion.

I'm quite at a loss at what do do from here, and would appreciate some help. I see other people have had this problem on these forums as well, but reading their topics just seems to leave me more confused.

In your case, renaming some exe files to a .com extension should bypass the current issues.

You'll need to be sure file extensions are viewable.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

Right click on the file, select rename, and change extension to .com

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please do this:

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here This is already a .com file

Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds to run the tool. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. Double click the exe file (or the renamed .com file)

How well do they work?
Are they easy to use?
How long does it take to scan and store a page?
How much hand steadiness is required?
Anything else you can tell me?

Don't tell me you had a Logitech ScanMan? I tried both the Monochrome and the color scanman and was not at all satisfied with the results even at that point in time.

But, AVAST seems to be working and Kaspersky appears to work once I allow Active X control to download. I recently got a laptop and the the Search Programs and files text box on the start menu does not work. If I type anything in it nothing I do not get a search result. If I type something in it like "CMD" and press enter nothing happens. It has been like this out of the box for a few months. Now I want to get his PC running like it should. Thanks.

A:Search Programs and files does not work on my new computer

On the assumption this is a new laptop factory preloaded with some version of Win 7, the search function should work straight out the box. I'd suggest doing windows updates, but this is such a basic funcion of W7 there must be something wrong with the OS and you should initially get support from the maker of the laptop if it is under warranty.

My low-end Epson XP-310 (all-in-one printer/scanner) works flawlessly with Win 10. I use the native scanning program of Windows 10. I got it on sale for $60CAD.
Then I bought another one on sale because it's cheaper than a full set of ink alone. A full set of ink is around $45CAD but the second printer (same brand and model) I got was $40 with a full set of ink..

Hi: Try running the system restore utility and select a restore point to a time before the automatic HP update ran. If you are unfamiliar with how to use this program, please read the info at the link below. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore Then change you HP update program to notify you that there are updates and you choose when to install them rather than it being done automatically. That way you can run them and find out which one is blowing up your system and you can prevent that one from running the next time. Or you can just leave things as they are if they are working OK for you. Paul

My nephew came to my house today asking to fix his laptop for him, but this is way above my head, there is so much wrong I dont even know where to start.

First of all dds.com does not work on his laptop, at first it didn't open so I tried with cmd.
With cmd it did work but it does not create the text files.

His complaint was that GTA wouldn't start anymore and his microsoft office wouldn't start anymore.
I started with the GTA, My guess is that it was a driver issue, the error was:
GTA cannot find audio card installed. (windows sounds do work

So I tried to download the drivers on his laptop(now he mentions IE does not start anymore) Chrome, gives a failed to download message whenever I try to download something.
I downloaded it on my computer, install didn't work.
I tried opening dxdiag, didn't work. as a sollution I found I had to use exefix.reg.
This gave an error again. To fix this I had to update my dirextX. the install does not work.

So at this point I'm scratching my eyeballs out.

If you have any idea what would cause this, any help would be much appreciated.

Hello, thanks for reading my post. Heres my situation:

Windows xp MCE sp2

About 6 hours ago, I was surfing the net with firefox, when I was redirected to another page and IE opened. As soon as that happened, I killed both firefox and IE with task manager, but it was too late I think.

First and foremost I had a bubble pop up from the start bar, which looked like a legit windows warning, - it was about antivirus software, saying I needed to upgrade and to click it. However, I noticed the word prevent was misspelled in the text, so I checked out my processes. I noticed a few processes I didn't recognize, one in particular "a.exe". So, I disconnected my hardline to the internet, then I manually tried to kill these processes but they kept rebooting themselves. I ran HJT, and it was immediately terminated. I watched the process menu and noticed a process or two popped up and went away as soon as HJT was killed. The same thing happened for SmitFraudFix, and I was unable to run either program after they were killed the first time. After getting back online, I found a program from microsoft that scanned for click fraud virus type problems, but it was killed too. Well, then I located some of the corresponding registry keys for these processes and deleted them, but it made little difference other than fixing the bubble that was popping up.
And about firefox - it was slow, and I noticed that searching through google showed "Transferring data from wewewesearch.com&q... Read more

I tried several methods to running it including setting the compatibly to XR or Vista. NOTHING worked. Even tried to uninstall and reinstalled it and still nothing would never run after the first time.

Hello,
My problem is as follows: when launching some .exe files, either by double-clicking in Explorer or by having another program launch them, they show up in the Processes tab in Task Manager, take up some memory, some threads and some handles, and then stay
at 0% CPU and nothing else happens. Launching the file again only adds a new process, equally "dead".
The weird thing is that some files work fine: Chrome, Steam client and at least one Steam game, regedit.exe, msconfig.exe, Adobe reader, VLC media player, one compiled AutoHotKey script...
The ones that conspicuously don't work are OpenOffice (all its .exes), many Steam games, installers for new programs (such as OOo),
other compiled AutoHotKey scripts, Pure Data.
None of these problems seem to appear in Safe Mode.
So lots of stuff still works, but I'd love to fix this and be able to work on text documents and spreadsheets again...
What I've tried so far:

updated Windows to all it asked forsfc /scannow returns no problem at all (just ran it again now)chkdsk /r /f, everything is finetried a system restore, which failed even in Safe Mode, with the message about antivirus software preventing it from doing its jobuninstalled AVG, which was only possible in Safe Mode, am now running the free trial of Malwarebytes, which says everything is fine after a scanfollowed the instructions to correct .exe file association in the registry found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2688326

Hi:
XP/Outlook Express 6:

I blocked one of friends' e-mail, due to the personal conflict.
by accessing: At the top of O.E. 6 : Tools > Blocked sender's e-mail

Yesterday morning, however I got her e-mail even though her e-mail was blocked one month ago.

Did I miss something to make it blocked?
If that's case, how to block her e-mail permanently?

Thanks,

A:Blocked Sender does NOT work, XP/O.E.6

I don't see that under Tools in my OE.

You have to have the email message highlighted then click on "Message" and then select "block sender..." but all that does is make it go to the Deleted folder instead of your Inbox.

Who is your Internet provider that your email comes through? There should be a way to block it at their server by logging into your webmail so they never even get to OE.

So earlier today, Windows told me it had an update to install. So, I shut down my computer like normal, then booted it back up. In the middle of booting, the black Check-disk screen came up (which is unusual), said something about the C:/ drive being NTFS and needing to scan it.

It then proceeded to delete numerous "corrupt/orphan" files, which was even more unusual. Sensing something wasn't right, I hit my reset button to stop it from deleting anymore files, and avoided the check-disk scan during the following bootup.

My instincts appear to have been correct, as numerous programs can no longer function. Firefox fails to start because its "side-by-side configuration is incorrect." Ifranview appears to have had its core program deleted, but left shortcuts. iTunes "was not installed correctly." Those are just a few examples, but there are more programs such as Adobe that appear to have had crucial files deleted/corrupted. Luckily Internet Explorer *shudder*, my pics/docs/vids/music, and a few other programs appear to be working for now. I tried reinstalling Firefox, but that appears to have done nothing.

I already plan on moving/backing up all of my pics/docs/vids/music and project files to an external hard drive before doing anything else, and I've run Avast! and Malwarebytes scans but found nothing...

So here's my question(s): What the heck happened? What caused this, and is there a way to fix it without wiping my entire hard drive, reins... Read more

A:ChkDsk on Startup, deleted "corrupt" files; Programs no longer work.

What happened, dont really know, but it sounds like an imminant hard drive failure. Good move to back up your stuff.
You should test your hard drive. Go to the website of the manufacturer of your drive, there will be a test.
You can try to remedy the software problem with a system restore. This will have no affect of a hard drive problem, however.

Hi,

I have a system which is no longer able to browse the Internet with any of the browsers. Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1 with IE, Firefox and Chrome all failing to display web sites however I am able to get responses by pinging sites or even using command line FTP to connect to a site and transfer files. I am unable to download updates for malwarebytes or other programs over the Internet on this system and have tried copying scanners over via USB drive to clean the system out with no success.

Any assistance on resolving this would be very much appreciated.

Yesterday, my dad seems to have picked up a virus of some sort that has quickly rendered our Norton Antivirus useless, blocks access to websites such as www.norton.com, the support page for Microsoft and multiple other useful links. Also, when clicking on a search result in Google, he gets redirected to other, lesser known search engines of some sort. The last symptom that was have noticed is the computer running very slowly. It takes ten or more seconds to right click. The computer is currently running on Windows XP Professional. Also, something to note is that the same morning, we encountered a virus called prunnet.exe. We promptly removed it and everything associated with it by following the steps on the third post titled "removal of prunnet.exe" at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6122_102-0.htm...ssageID=2916950. I believe that doing those actions has removed that particular malicious file, but we think that this more recent virus is another all together as it seems to have some different symptoms than prunnet.exe. We currently have the computer off and unplugged from the internet.Does anybody here have any idea what this could be? Do you think it is associated with prunnet.exe? Thank you for your help. Also, the not being able to access certain pages and Google links being redirected happens on both IE and Firefox.

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas!!
I am having an issue with windows 7 Ultimate apparently blocking me from accessing my work related website login page.
I must use IE to view the website. So far, only Combofix remedies the issue but only for a couple of days and a couple of logins, then it's right back to the same old thing. I have 2 log files that I can submit for review. Also an important side note. No matter what browser I try to use, the computer does the same thing. The page is set up to use IE however. I am using Microsoft Security Essentials. The website is as follows....
hxxps://evalue.internationaldelivers.com/service
Once this page loads, I would normally login. My problem is that the computer IE status bar drags and drags and finally a unable to load the page comes up. I can run combofix and everything is great for only a couple of days.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi:
I have disabled some start up programs I do not want to sart up in Vista. I keep getting this annoying message reminding me of this when Windows start and when it is open. In XP there was a check box to keep this from showing, how do I turn this off in Vista.

Also I sometimes get files by e-mail such as Access programs that I am working on for a customer. Windows Vista will not let me open these.

Message: This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open this file due to potential security problems. To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network location.

I copied it to my D partition but still Vista will not let me open it. I had to copy it to my zip drive and then open it on my XP computer.

How can I open it in Vista?

Hi

The first thing i will say is that i don't speak english very well, so i apologize if i wrote something wrong (my native language is spanish).

My problem is very critical, i'll try to be brief. I had Windows 10 Pro x64 on my PC (not a notebook) since July 2015. Everything was going good, no problem with anything. I updated Windows everyday. Everything ok. I had two partitions (C: & D. The first one with the OS, and the second only with my personal files (familiar photos, videos, music, work files, etc), aprox. 172gb. ironically, to protect my information, i used Bitlocker encryption in that partition. Everything works. I unlocked everyday that partition with my password, and there was no problem. But, a damn day, i made a system restauration (i don't know what's called in english, but is that option that returns to a point of restauration to a few days ago). Well... restauratiuon had a critical fail, and windows died.

Well... the next step was make a formatting to the hard disk, but first backup my information. And there was the real problem. I took my internal hard disk, and i connected to the notebook of a friend that is technical in computers. But password doesn't work. It said "password incorrect", so the next step was use the recovery password of 48 digits, but it neither work. Same thing happened in other PC's. Ironically, C: (without Bitlocker) partition goes good. Fast and without errors.

And well... I spent more that two months without my compute... Read more

What on EARTH process is always running in the background to make my hard drive chatter away for literally nearly 3-5 minutes after a bootup...and we're talking with a FRESH install!....Some something is running a LOT in the background but task manager is absolutely worthless in pointing out what is going on...It even gets to the point where , after having the Edge browser opened and perusing the internet for awhile, things get so bogged down, and windows is too stupid to tell me exactly WHY it's bogged down, things get to where even a mouse click is delayed upwards of 10 seconds! lol. Sometimes things completely freeze and pushing the reset button is the only way out...I've gone as far as downloading Avasts 'emergency startup' disc and booting from it , thinking there might be a virus, but it found nothing (although I'm wondering if it's loading a small portion of windows, which if it is, and a virus or malware is in that small portion, booting to the disc and running the anti-virus software is pointless...maybe I should try it with a linux based emergency disc?) ....

Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. You have a DDS / HJT log posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

I will be assisting you with your computer issues.  I will endeavor to respond within a reasonable time.   Forum policy requires that I post within 48 hours after your last post, but I do endeavor to post within 24 hours of your last post.

I would ask that you please continue to copy and paste the contents of all requested log files directly into your replies.   Please do not use "code" or "quote" boxes.  Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

I will need some time to review your FRST logs.  That could take a day or two.

PLEASE DO NOT RUN ANY ADDITIONAL SCANS OR ANTI-MALWARE REMOVAL TOOLS UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM ME.
Doing so would complicate the situation and it would cause further delays in resolving your issues.  It could also potentially result in harm to your computer because my "fix" will be based on the FRST scan logs you have already submitted.

Thank you and have a great day.

Regards,
-Phil
