several keys not working after liquid spill on hp g6 laptop

Q: several keys not working after liquid spill on hp g6 laptop

HELP!! I spilled some Mike's Hard Lemonade on my HP G6 keyboard last night. I immediately turned it on it's left side (in the direction of the spilled-on keys so as not to spread the mess) and dried it off with paper towels. Now, this morning, the F, G, and Backspace keys aren't working. Nothing happens when I press them. I don't feel any "stickiness" when I press the keys and everything seems to be dry now. I've watched some YouTube videos on how to REPLACE the keyboard but I'm wondering if I should take the keyboard off as is shown in the videos and just clean it or something. I'm afraid to take it apart and ruin it (it's only 6 months old!!) or make the warranty invalid but I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have a tip for me? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey PhancyNancy, I'm so sorry to hear you had a spill! It's always a terrible "stomach in your throat" feeling. You may be able to take it apart and clean it without voiding the warranty. I'll need to know your full product number to know whether the keyboard on that particular model is considered "customer replaceable" (in other words, can you remove it and put it back on even just to clean it, without voiding the warranty). You can find your product number on the bottom. It could be abbreviated 'P/N'. Hopefully it is only your keyboard that is affected. It's tough with spills because you can always see the effects that spills have on some components in the computer and they may not fail immediately, but could fail in the future. You did the right thing though by putting it on its side. Let me know your product number and I can give you lots more information on part numbers and replacement procedures if the keyboard is "customer replaceable".

Sorry if I didn't post on the right section.

So basically I spilled liquid on my laptop keyboard and now it doesn't work anymore.
I turned it upside down for a while, I blow dried it and yeah at first it worked but after like... 2 minutes it stopped working forever! Guess the liquid short circuited the keyboard.

Should I just send my laptop in to some store and get it fixed?
Or should I remove the keys (which sounds really complicate and a delicate work)
Maybe I should uninstall the keyboard driver and re install in?

For more info I'm using a COMPAQ Presario v6000

***P.S: The weirdest thing is that when I open my laptop, it makes a loud beeping noise and then I kinda freezes on the startup screen (shows COMPAQ, and tells you to press ESC for config)
So I press ESC hoping it works and yeah it does. I press ESC again and windows starts up.
-> Does it mean that only the ESC button on my keyboard work?
Thanks!

HI guys, i need a solution to my laptop.i ordered my laptop in November which makes it not up to 3months with me. The issue here is that i accidentally spilled liquid on the laptop keyboard and i immediately turned the upside down so that the liquid could come off but I noticed that it had already spread to the screen. i don't know what to do  as the shift key is becoming sticky but the laptop still works fine with no issues except for the sticky keyboard and the liquid mark on the screen.  Any solution provided would be helpful

A:Liquid Spill on Laptop

For the long term, It will need to be cleaned. A liquid, especially one containing sugar can be quite lethal to a notebook or desktop PC. I highly recommend that you do not use the notebook until it is repaired. Contact HP for warranty service. http://support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty/

Hi!I spilled juice on my desk and the juice traveled to the bottom left of my laptop where the vents are. I powered it off immediately and unplugged it. The battery was not attached to the laptop at that time. After wiping away the liquid on the case with tissue and a bit of isopropyl alcohol, I opened up the bottom and inspected to see if there was any leakage. There was no liquid found inside the laptop. To be sure, It's now drying in front of a fan. Any recommendations or advice to possibly salvage my laptop?

Yesterday, I spill coffee on my laptop(Sony Vaio PCG-K13). Fortunately, everything works well EXCEPT
1)When I turn on the computer now,it makes this loud beeping noise before a screen comes up asking me to select Profile1. Didn't have this problem before the spill.

2)All the keys + touchpad mouse works fine EXCEPT the spacebar, which doesn't function at all. Currently,I using the on-screen keyboard to insert spaces.

Can anyone offer any suggestions for addressing one or both problems?

Thanks

A:Keyboard Liquid Spill Problem

ugh. ugly situation. At worst you may have shorted some component and ruined the motherboard (requires replacement). At best, it is a minor short and the keyboard may only require cleaning or replacement.
Cleaning will require dissassembly of the laptop and electronics cleaning solvent.
I do not recommend this for an average user. Laptops are very tricky to put back together. You would be better off getting a professional.

If the motherboard is ruined, you can buy a salvage model and use the hard drive, RAM, etc, that is in yours to make either the salvage model work, or use the salvage model for a motherboard part.

A few days ago, my significant other accidentally knocked over a small cup of iced tea onto my laptop. I was quick to dry the device off, but the device turned off on its own (with the fan running for about 3-5 minutes while the screen was black). I then quickly took off the bottom shell and disconnected the battery. From that point on, I waited 2 days before trying to use the laptop again. When I reinstalled the battery, the battery "light" keeps blinking (as opposed to its usual solid state or its graduate fade that it does when it is in rest mode). I've disconnected it and reconnected it several times, tried to plug it in and unplug it, etc. Still, the system will not turn back on. Does this sound like a battery issue, or is this indicative of a bigger issue?

i spilled a glass of wine on my dell xps. i seemed to have done all of the right steps by shutting it off, removing battery, cleaning keyboard externally but then i noticed some keys were still sticking so i took it apart, with manual carefully, and there was only a wee bit of spots on the keyboard internally so cleaned with alcohol. all seemed well but when i reassembled the monitor isn't working. i can hear that it is starting up and working properly but the monitor is black. i was very careful with the cables, i didn't remove them or anything...does anyone know what could be happening?

thanks.

A:Saved laptop from spill but after taking apart monitor not working?

The LCD requires two cables, one for power, and the other the display connector.

It is likely the display cable which is probably ribbbon style, has come out of the back of the LCD's circuit connector block.

Either that, or one of the inverter leads has been slightly pulled out of the connector block and isn't making proper contact.

My advice would be to strip the display surround off, and remove the plastic trim running across the top of the keyboard and then check all the connections and with it in pieces, run it up again.

Brand new XPS 13 here.  Any suggestions on cleaning the keys? I spilled my Pepsi the other day, and only a couple drops got on the computer.  I thought I didn't get any on the keyboard, but I was obviously wrong as I have a few keys that are physically sticking which makes typing awkward given the limited travel these keys already have.  I'd rather not take these keys off as they look pretty complicated.
Any other klutzes out there that have experience with this?

I have been having problems keeping my touchpad and keyboard functioning after taking my laptop apart. In the first instance, my touchpad stopped working a couple weeks after the dissection. I took the computer back apart, and re-secured the touch pad jack in the motherboard connector, and it worked again.

The second instance, which I havent been able to solve, is the keyboard keys. Certain keys will stop working after some short time after taking apart the computer, usually a couple hours to a couple days.

I have tried readjusting the keyboard jack in the motherboard connector, also have tried turning off the computer and taking out the battery for a while.

Please help

Some friend had suggested that it might be a circuit board problem. Do you think that is likely?

Hi I noticed that gradually certain keys near each other are now not working on my Dell Inspiron 64OO, which is a couple of years old now....

the keys that arent working are the zero, minus symbol and equal sign on top line, letter p and bracket beside it, semicolon and apostrophe, slash with question mark. So they are related somehow I guess seeing that they are all in a line that runs downward.

I did pop off the letter p key and tried carefully cleaning it and it did work occasionally, but I gave up being patient and just copy and paste now, which is an absolute nuisance. please help if you can!

A:Some of my laptop keys are not working

hello raj, This is quite common in laptops well it was with mine.

I found out that the problem was cause by crumbs below the keys. but it is really easy to fix. It could also be caused by the key bracket.

place a flat head screwdriver or your finger nail, at the corner of the key, And apply a little upward pressure they key should pop offf.

Have a look for any crumbs ect, wobble the bracket to see if this helps.

To re-apply they key just place it on top of the bracket and push down until you hear a click.

Let me know if this helpde.

All I want is to have an engineer come and set the keyboard right and they do not want to do it. In Chennai, the receptionist rudely banged down the phone saying he could not help. So I got a Lenovo Z50-70 Laptop. Some of it's keys are not working at all, not even during the boot. I got a dual-boot Laptop (with both Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 10) and it seems like some of they keys are not working on neither of the installed OSs. Keys that are not working are: z, x, c, v,m, comma, point, enter, return. What I noticed about this keys is that they are possitioned at the bottom row of the whole letter keyboard (except enter). I tried taking out the battery, turn the power off. Restart with the battery or with the power supply. Nothing worked. Laptop's warranty expired as well. Laptop is 2 years old. I had a similar problem with the "1" key a while ago. But the problem there was that the button was being "pressed" continuously. I took it out, cleaned it and still wasn't working. Turned out to be working next day for one reason or another. Nothing happened before/after the last usage of the laptop. Last night while writing some code was working ok. But in the morning it started to act like this. Any adivice is welcomed. Thank you!

If it works with an attached keyboard, but not with the built in one - I'd have to suspect that there's a problem with the built in keyboard. I'd suggest replacing it, or taking it to a shop to have it replaced.

Replace the keyboard or use a external keyboard.i tried cleaning with mets and nothing.I'm not sure what that (mets) means. Did you pour more liquid into that laptop? Liquids and laptops are a bad idea. Anything that gets into the keyboard will usually end up on the motherboard of the laptop. What make model and country. Here in the USA You can often find a laptop keyboard for $20 US or less. For temporary use or permanent if portability is not needed a USB external keyboard should work.Good LuckRoger

After install of RP 8, most of my fn key are not functioning properly or that when pressed they don't show on the screen as it did with 7.

A:fn keys not working on laptop

That is quite weird if assuming you already installed its native application. I found most of my laptops (ASUS, Fujitsu, and Toshiba) have their fn keys just work when the appropriate chipset driver were installed, even before its native fn application is installed, of course lacking the fn animations. Two of them are running Win 8.

Have you tried reinstalling drivers? Who knows it resolves the matter? Just my poor guess.

Okay, so yesterday I was dropped off for my first day at Uni and I went into my room to set up my laptop. Somehow (truly a mystery) a single tear fell onto my keyboard, right in the gap below the space bar. Obviously, I thought nothing of it... for about a minute. Then suddenly my keyboard went absolutely crazy. The space bar stopped working and when I tried to type with any other key, weird stuff happened. For example, I would type "B" and instead it would come up as "###O'xnF."

As you can imagine, very weird. I left it for a little bit while I unpacked and when I came back to it, it seemed to have settled down, but some of the keys had stopped working all together. These include the space bar, the z, the s, the shift key, the left alt key etc. Basically, several on the left side of the space bar. I am having to use a USB keyboard but obviously I would rather not have to.

Does anyone know how to fix it, or should I lug it over to the nearest computer repairs place?

Hello, 3 keys of my laptop are not working at all (P, @ and the up arrow). I have tried with Ubuntu and they don't work either. I noticed after reinstalling Windows 10, but I am not sure if it is related. I have now returned to factory settings with the MSI recovery, but the problem persists.

I have tried to take out the key and clean it, but it looks clean to me, and I haven't removed the metal bars nor rubber thingy for fear of damaging it. The computer is recent, bought in November past year.

I rather not send it to warranty, as I bought it in UK and I lvie in Malta, and the shipping would be quite astronomic, and I would be without laptop for weeks.

Can I do something? I cannot take out the battery to reboot as it is a modern MSI and it looks integrated into the body.

Any reply would be inmensely appreciated, as I am becoming mad with this problem, after hours and hours of trying to sort it out.

A:Some keys not working toshiba Laptop

By stopped working you mean some keys don't output anything at all or they give unexpected characters?

If the latter, you can check whether the language input method matches the keyboard layout: control panel → change input methods (for instance, if a french laptop is set to english keyboard layout some keys won't work as expected).

Otherwise, it could be a hardware problem. One way to troubleshoot it is to download and boot from a Linux Live CD and try the keyboard from there (for further assistance with this you can ask for help in the linux forum). If the Keyboard works there, that indicates wrong Windows settings. If the keys don't work there the keyboard might be damaged and needs to be replaced. An external keyboard can be used in the meantime.

Please help me because I have been trying for 3 hours now and want to cry haha. I used my laptop last night and the cat did walk over it, as she usually does so it may have been something she has done or just a coincidence this has happened.

I just went to use my laptop tonight and could not log in because I noticed that my A key was not working which is in my password so used the onscreen key board, I then discovered probably half of my other keys also are not working!!!

I have uninstalled the keyboard in the device manager and nothing, I have even installed Unbuntu to see if it would work in there as one person suggested. I have turned the laptop off, took the battery and power cable out, held the power button for 60 seconds, put it all back together and started it up, nothing.

I have stolen my boyfriends keyboard from his desktop PC and that is working fine. I just do not know what to try next if anything or if to just go ahead and back my stuff up and reinstall windows (using windows 10).

I do not understand why it is only some keys as surely if it was the actual keyboard then it all would not be working which is why I think it might be a windows thing maybe, but then why does the USB keyboard work fine.

Thanks for any help and let me know if you need anymore information

I tried reinstalling the Synaptics drivers but it didn't solve anything unfortunately. Unfortunately I am out of warranty, so any DIY suggestions would be very appreciated. Thank you!

The Hardware Maintenance Manual will show you what is involved in repairing your laptop. So far as I can tell, the trackpad buttons are part of the keyboard bezel, which will involve all the disassembly shown in the keyboard replacement procedure, plus transferring any other parts mounted to the keyboard bezel which are not part of the new bezel assembly (if any). Other than leaving the lid / display panel assembly as one piece, you've pretty much got to take everything apart. Whilst the computer is apart, I would replace the keyboard for the relatively small additional parts cost. Most of the investment here will be in paying for engineer time (or in summoning up courage for a DIY repair).

Hello there, This is my first time posting. Basically, I spilled some water on my laptop keyboard 2 days ago, I wiped off the water and left it overnight. Then when I turned it on the keyboard is completely dead. The laptop itself turns on fine, the screen as well as the touchpad work fine, but the keyboard is not repsonsive at all. I am typing this question on the laptop now using a temporary external usb keyboard. Ive checked all the drivers and they do not indicate any problem. I think I may have to purchase a new one.  Model Number: HP 15-d051sa.Windows 10 64-bit. Kind regards,Farooq93

Please help, having problem with the keys on my laptop. ASDFJKL keys are not working suddenly. The keys are not stuck. All other keys are working fine. Im using Lenovo g460 Windows 7. Tried cleaning the keys by removing it but doesn't work. Sometimes i have to press the keys hard and/or pressing many times to work but most of the time it doesn't work either.

Thanks.

Those keys are on the same line on your keyboard. It sounds like your keyboard is defective. You may have to get it replaced or repaired.
