Q: With every custom teams my window appearance changes to classic

Hello, i'm lately kinda into the windows custom theme's stuff and my first theme that i installed worked fine then when i rebooted my pc my taskbar and just well.. all the windows changes to windows-classic instead of just normal windows 7 taskbar

I also tried another hard drive of me and same on that one well even worse, i don't get a desktop at all anymore (my explorer.exe closed on me and it wouldn't let me put it back)
can anyone help me

Preferred Solution: With every custom teams my window appearance changes to classic

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For some reason the only appearnace option for me is Windows Classic even though I am running XP Pro on a P4 1.7 G system. This system is spyware and virus free as I run Ad-Aware and Spybot daily, and the computer is protected by ZoneAlarm and AVG anti-virus. I also run random scans on pandasoftware as well as Trendmicro. When I go to Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Windows and Buttons, the only option is Windows Classic. I did recently upgrade to SP2, and that is the only change that has been made to the sytem. Any thought?

A:Internet disabled and windows classic appearance on XP

Hi and Welcome,

Please do the following:

Please download DDS from either of these links

and save it to your desktop.Disable any script blocking protection
Double click dds.pif to run the tool.
When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
Save both reports to your desktop.
Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable. Double click the exe file.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries [/QUOTE]

Been messing with this for days. When I open the Control Panel I do not have the option to switch the view on the left side pane. All that is there is the See Also window. I went to view, Toolbar, Customize and added the views icon to the toolbar. As long as I keep the customize toolbar box open and move it up or down I can see it on the toolbar. Once I close the Customize Toolbar window the view icon grays out on the tool bar. My back button is the same way. I checked in another users window and the control panel is fine. I have Windows XP SP3. I am the Admin on the PC. Any help would be great.

I installed custom themes a little while ago and have been using them ever since though when I booted up my laptop today the task bar was like that of a classic theme and I've no idea why. The sound and background are still the same. This only occurs when I switch to any of them the themes I've made however stay the same probably because the themes change the look of the task bar and start menu while the self made change only the colour.

If you do not have a lot of additional customizations, I'd suggest running the System File Checker which will return your files to default (and finad and fix any system files that have issues)

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Then repatch your system, and try to apply one of your themes. See if that fixes the issue. If not, we'll ask some more questions, and try some other things

I've created a Custom Command under Classic Explorer that invokes a VBS script. If the command contains E:\abcdef.vbs, it works. If, however, I change it to E:\abcdef.vbs "%3", nothing happens, even though there is no reference to the argument within the script.

For what it's worth, here is the script:

Dim WshShell, objFSO, FileList, strFileName, MKLCommand, I

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

Const ForReading = 1

'FileList = WScript.Arguments(0)
FileList="F:\Global Temp\ceiA611.tmp"
WScript.Echo FileList

Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objTextFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(FileList, ForReading)

Do Until objTextFile.AtEndOfStream
strNextLine = objTextFile.Readline
I = InStrRev(strNextLine,"\")
strFileName = Right(strNextLine,Len(strNextLine)-I)
MKLCommand = "cmd.exe /c mklink ""E:\FPVTemp\" & strFileName & """ """ & strNextLine & """"

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey guys.

I'm currently running a Windows7 HP 64bit. I updated from Vista64bit. My computer was only about a week old when I updated, so I just did the "upgrade" instead of doing a clean install.

Now, I made and ISO of the installer (I did the online student upgrade download) using vLite and did a clean install of Win7 in Virtual Box (just wanted to check to make sure the ISO I made actually worked [I plan on using it to do a clean install on a new Dell laptop]).

I've noticed an odd difference in appearance between Windows7 running in my Virtual Box and Windows 7 running "native". Check out this screen shot:

The active window (bottom left) is the window running in Virtual box (from a clean install). The window in the background (upper right) is the window of my real OS.

Notice that the min, restore and X buttons are separated (with some space between) in the virtual box window while the buttons in my real OS do not have any space between? What's that all about?

Key points:
Virtual box install was "clean" install (from an ISO made from an "upgrade" installer)
Real OS install was "upgrade" from Vista
Visual appearance is the only thing that seems different between them.

Thanks for any comments or feedback you might have!

Running Windows 7 SP1, re-installed just a couple of days ago.
I have UxStyle Core installed, along with a few custom themes. Default themes work perfectly, but once I switch back to any custom theme, it forces me back to Classic. The themes worked before, but today they started acting up.
This also happened on my old installation, and I tried everything to solve it - sadly, not even sfc /scannow helped. That is partially the reason why I reinstalled my OS.

A factor might also be that I'm using TeamViewer a lot, because the themes started malfunctioning while I was accessing my computer through it.

I've tried this tutorial, and I still can't remove the explorer toolbar. I use a customized windows classic theme, and I think this might be the reason its not working for me. So, I found another thread with this post and I'm thinking of trying to edit the shell32.dll and see if this method will remove the explorer toolbar.

Before I do this, I was wondering if anyone knew if this method will remove the explorer toolbar on a customized windows classic theme. I have my customized windows classic theme to resemble the Windows 95/98 grey theme. Does anyone know if this method works on a customized classic theme?

A:Can shell32.dll remove explorer toolbar using custom classic theme?

I have finally removed this explorer toolbar. I just followed the instructions from that thread in my first post and edited the shell32.dll. It is now gone. w00t!

So if anyone else has trouble removing that toolbar using that shellstyle.dll from the tutorial from my first post, just edit the shell32.dll instead and it will remove it.

If this has been covered elsewhere, my apologies, but I haven't been able to locate an answer to this yet.
I basically like my Win 7 Aero theme, but what bugs me is the two-toned appearance of the window border, i.e. lighter gray for the top 1/3 of the window, and darker gray for the bottom 2/3s. This is especially distracting and annoying when editing photos. I could go with a basic theme, but would prefer to keep the borders fat - as long as they can be made to have just one (preferably dark gray) color. For now, I've just cranked the color intensity and brightness all the way, which gets rid of the two-toned look, but leaves me with too light a gray.

Thanks for all the help. I want to make my shorcuts start programs and windows (In WIndows Xp Pro SP3) at a certain position and with a certain size.

For instance I want to open Excell at position 20,30 (x,y) with a window size of 750 x 200, or maybe a internet explorer window at position 129, 357 with a window size of 562 x 397.

I gave the odd numbers in the example so that people responding will understand that I want CUSTOM SIZES. I know how to set the shortcuts to start maximized and minimized and also window tiling. That's not what I'm talking about. Does anyone know of shortcut switch that I can use?

For instance in some games if you want to start the game with cheats enabled, you put "-devmode" after the directory path in the "target" box of the shortcut properties.

Is there any other way?

There is an awesome program called "Montage3"

which I use, but isn't exactly what I'm looking for. Please help out.

My DPI is currently on 250% and I like it this way. The problem is that the elements of my windows seem too big now and take up too much space.
If you open "My PC", the bar with "Name", "Type", "Available Space", etc is too thick. Is there no way to decrease the size of this bar and perhaps strip the entire layout like in good old XP? I don't need Groups/Categories twirl down menu, my current directory address/location, back&forth buttons, etc. I just need it simple and compact.

Something happened to my computer a while ago, that made me unable to see or change certain elements in Windows.

It seems that my DPI setting is too low so that the text and content of a window doesn't fit.
These windows cannot be resized or scrolled so I am at a stalemate.

I have tried changing the DPI setting from 100-150%. This does nothing at all for me.

Does anyone have a solution that does not involve a complete reinstall? Anything I can do with the registry to bring everything back to default?

Thanks in advance!

I am running Windows 7 Pro.

I used to be able to access the standard Window Color and Appearance page, until one day I clicked on "Open classic appearance properties for more color options" for the first time.

ever since then, when I click on Window Color on the Personalization screen, all I get is the classic appearance properties page.

I am running an Aero theme.

I have tried toggling back and forth between Aero themes and Basic themes.

I tried logging off and logging back on, and then a restart.

None of these things fixed the problem.

I also logged on as another user on my pc, and that account also gets the classic appearance properties page.

I have scoured the internet and these forums, and can't find anyone else who has had this problem.

Is there a way to edit the default theme so it looks like with the Properties - Compatibility - Disable visual themes? Setting the option is a good solution but disabling visual themes for many applications causes problems with them, e.g. with foobar2000. Which gets violated too.

A:Aero + classic window background

I suspect the answer is no as the theme that looks like that is that (if you see what I mean!) W7 automatically shuts down incompatible visual effects in most cases of incompatibility so this shouldn't happen. Do you have the latest releases of the affected applications? Foobar was updated at the end of April and Inkscape has a new (admittedly alpha) version since 1st of June.

I have experience 2 BSOD in a day. Which is the very first time so was hopping if anyone can help.

I have followed the instruction to generate the report and attached to this post.

Original installed version, OEM

Use the notebook for about 9months. OS also has been used for 9months. I reformatted it once using the recovery disc the moment I got my hand on the set.

A:BSOD while watching movie on window media classic

Hi nuky and welcome to SF!
Your report shows 4 crashes. 2 blame your video driver, 1 your Touchpad driver and 1 the USB Hub driver. (what was connected to the USB ports at the time of crash?)
The two from yesterday were the video driver and the USB Hub.

Which is the very first time so was hopping if anyone can help

Unfortunately the real source/culprit can be pinpointed better, the more crash data is available.
So for now I suspect something underlying, like rising temps due to dust build up. How far into the movie did the crash occur?
Temperature monitors: Real Temp - CPU temperature monitoring or Core Temp

Also try a never version of Windows Media Player - Home Cinema

If you get more crashes we can try to flush out the real culprit after this tut:
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Post back with any new data.

I made a video to show you in 16 seconds what my problem is:

I've tried SFC scannow

It didn't fix it. SFC Scannow said there are no corrupt files. So all my windows files are good. This issue must be caused by something attached to this account it is happening on.

I tried changing themes, editing the advanced color properities, restoring explorer.exe, etc...

Lucky this is just happening in my main user account and not in the others.

So maybe this is some changed setting that is causing this.

I've this same issue also with browser windows of google chrome, firefox, internet explorer, and many other program windows, etc...

I don't know since when I got this issue but I just really noticed it. So I don't really know the source of the problem and how severe it is in regards to resolving it.

I also don't know what to search for in google to find others who had this issue before. If any had this issue before that is.

Hello. I've recently reformatted my computer and since then I've been having this rather annoying problem. When I select classic theme from the personalization menu then try to switch back to my custom theme, the only thing that changes is the color scheme but nothing else after the "Please Wait" dialog. Restarting the computer is the only way to make custom themes work again.

I've tried running the troubleshooter for aero when it happens but it doesn't find any issues.

Some of my games require transparency/aero to be completely off to reduce input delay/other issues. And since I close/open the game sometimes several times, I like to keep it on classic as long as I'm in my gaming session.

Side question: Does anyone know how to make custom log on screen background stick? Mine likes to revert back to default randomly.

In Appearance and Personalization > Personalization > Window Color and Appearance, I am unable to change the color of the Active Title Bar and of the Inactive Title Bar.

Whatever colors I choose, both the Active and Inactive Title Bars look like this.
I thought maybe a restart was necessary, but restarting has no effect.

Anybody got a cure?

A:Window Color and Appearance - Title Bar Color Can't Be Changed

Hello Beau,

You'll need to use the Windows Classic theme to be able to change the color of them. The color is not applied while using an Aero or Basic theme.

(Option Two)
Theme - Change or Save

(Option Two)
Window Color and Appearance - Change

Hope this helps,

All apps look alike especially when they overlap with a big blank blue bar at the top. I would like at least each of my browsers to have a different colour. Skinning/theming the browser does not change the top bar.

Is there a way to pull this off?

I can change all the colours on all the apps no problem. I am trying to make each app have different window border colours.

Ideally I would like to get rid of the bars altogether. They are just a waste of real estate. Then the skinning colours would be visible with just the top of a window peeking out.

A:Custom window colours on per app basis

I don't know if there is a specific way to change the colors of every window of every app you use, or if you could take them out alltogether (I'm guessing that would require extensive modding), but I use this program, Dexpot:
Dexpot | Virtuelle Desktops f?r Windows
It lets you customize all sorts of things, and even use cool effects like the popular cube to change desktops. And best of all, it's free to use.

This is an old computer that was running a "modded" windows 7 ultimate. I no longer needed the ultimate and after formatting i installed windows 7 home premium NOT MODDED with an official windows 7 CD and key. The ultimate had no issues it ran fine and was good. This home premium wont do a basic thing. It wont update anything!!

With that said it is kinda weird. It has internet, i can watch youtube and download anything i want. what it cant do is use the built in auto update, it'll just sit there with the bar acting normal for days and no progress, longest i waited was 2 days then i stopped it.

I ran the windows network fix it tool and it found nothing.
I then ran the Windows Update Diagnostic program and WOW.
Windows Update error 0x80070005 (2016-07-06-T-10_52_52A) ---- not fixed
Services registration is missing or corrupt ---- fixed
Problems installing recent updates ---- fixed (repeats this message 4 times)

I then restart the computer and nothing updates so I run the program again and the exact same messages appear! What!!! WHY!!! It even says this with firewall off

This is a Fresh install with only the Lan driver, IE 11 (manual... Read more

Hey, this happens when I try using custom themes, any way to fix it? It happens with all windows that have a title like the one in the picture.
Currently using Soft8.1 theme.

EDIT: Screw this. I'm installing Windows 7 on this laptop.

If I'm not wrong, then you can change that colour by going here:

Clicking on colour and making it matching.

Every time I login to my PC microsoft teams opens. This started around a week ago. I have it disabled in task manager and have uninstalled it multiple times through control panel and going to C:\Users\(my user)\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft and C:\Users\(my user)\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft Teams and deleted everything related to it that I could see. Yet it continues to open at startup for whatever reason and seemingly reinstall itself. I have tried scanning with Malwarebytes and Windows Defender to no avail. Restarting does nothing and I have no pending updates in windows update. I never prompted this, and was never even aware that MS Teams existed before this happened. How can I stop this from happening?
