Pop-ups on my browser & Start page is default in mystartsearch.com

Q: Pop-ups on my browser & Start page is default in mystartsearch.com

Dear Admin,

There are multiple pop-ups on my browser.

For example,

How to remove a virus?

Then the virus will be bold with a pop-up when my cursor goes on it.

In addition to that, there are other pop-ups on the side/top/bottom of the site.

Besides that, my computer is getting laggy. Do you have any suggestion to solve this?

My default page will be mystartsearch.com although I have changed it to www.google.com

The virus is most probably due to the following 3 programmes:
i) WindowsManger pro
ii) Thegophotoit
iii) the hdvid-codec v10

I have removed it from the "Uninstall list". When I try and uninstall, they said error occurred and it was removed from the list.

Kindly guide me how to solve the issue and the computer lag issue.

I believe the lag issue is also due to these 3 programmes.

Things to note: My windows may not be of a genuine copy so I cannot do a windows update.

Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Many thanks.

Best regards,

Kenny Lim

Preferred Solution: Pop-ups on my browser & Start page is default in mystartsearch.com

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't use IE, I use Opera portable
It was not registered as the default browser which it is now,
Clinking on web links within applications (help & support links for example) opens the browser ok, but only to my start page, not to the intended web page.
Also, when I click on a HTML file, it does the same thing. Opens the browser to the start page, not the file.

It's not recognizing the link or the file.

I went through the URL Associations etc. in the registry and they all point to Opera. Protocols point to Opera also. I was successful the 1st time I tried this, but I don't remember exactly how that was different that this time. (I had to load a recent backup image for other unrelated problems left over from a bloated program I couldn't clean out).

Any ideas??

I stream soccer through a web site called firstrowsports.eu. There are copies of this site and I was inadvertently directed to a copy site where I was instructed to down load a viewing app to speed up streaming. That was the mistake. Strange adverts started appearing. Now my browser has been hijacked by a browser named mystartsearch which redirects my browsing and is generally messing around in my computer. I am constantly getting Server Error in Application "DEFAULT WEB SITE" on all the web pages I open. I have tried Spybot search & distroy and malwarebytes but they can't shift it. I have not done any banking on line since the problem started. I have prepared the logs which are attached. However I do not have an on board windows zip utility. I downloaded winzip from File Hippo but when I open the zip folder it open the folder with Win Rar , I do not understand why it does not open with winzip? I do not have access to a windows install disc or a boot cd.

Hi, I'm running Windows 8.1 and think I have run into the same issue this person has, though I'm finding some of the processes he has gone through to fix it quite difficult to understand.

http://forums.techguy.org/archive-windows-95-98-me/60065-need-help-removing-default-home.html

Though, I'm not sure how I can solve this issue under my circumstances- any help would be appreciated. I am quite a novice when it comes to issues like this but I should be capable of fixing it under instruction.

My Anti-Virus has picked up a program which has removed the default page in question from my Chrome. However, when I open Internet Explorer, that page- "http://www.istartsurf.com/?type=sc&...t&uid=ST1000DM003-1CH162_Z1D7ES0BXXXXZ1D7ES0B" opens and I have done everything I can to remove it. I've went into the Internet settings and removed it from default pages, etc and changed my homepage, but the page still persists. I believe I have also removed any relevant suspect programs from 'add or remove programs' but the problem page still persists.

Again, the antivirus seems to have removed all trace of 'iStartSurf' from my Google Chrome. I do not use Internet Explorer but these kinds of issues make me quite paranoid- any help would be greatly appreciated. Just whatever I do, Internet Explorer opens with that iStartSurf page.

Update: I've put the iStartSurf page on the blocked site list for Internet Explorer which causes it to loa... Read more

I have a web site that I plan to put onto CD, i.e. use it locally. The site uses activeX controls hence it is no good for me to use Firefox (as far as I know there are no activeX controls for firefox). However since Firefox is my default browser, I was wondering if there was a coding way (C++, JavaScript, anything) to open this particular web page in IE.

I've been attempting to write C++ code to do this. So far I can open IE with:

system("\"\"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe\"\"");

I believe ShellExecute can be used to open web pages via the Default Browser (I haven't found any tags where I can choose a browser).

Anyone have a clue?

If you go to the start page, click on mail, open an email, and click on "Print", a panel appears on the right side of the screen. The only device in the panel is the Document Writer. The default printer is not shown. There is a "more" link which, when clicked, adds the default printer to the list of target devices.

Not a big deal (at least to me, but I'm not the only person in the house using the windows 8 computer) since it's just an extra click (on "more"), but is there any way to change this behavior, so that the default printer is shown rather than the document writer?

It seems my system got infected by some worm which installed b.exe (as well as a.exe, c.exe, d.exe, e.exe & f.exe for that matter).

My AVG 8.5 was constantly alerting me of various cookies and infections which I vaulted and removed. I managed to remove the b.exe, etc. by running VISTA (Ultimate version) safe mode and changing attribute and deleting files. Any alerts regarding cookies and infections have stopped since then. I ran a AVG full scan later and it shows system as fully clean now.

However I still have the issue that even though I have Firefox as default browser every time I start Windows ie is starting (full size blank screen which also sets itself as default browser). I manage to kill the ie process from task manager as well ieuser.exe [if it shows up as running process].

My questions:

How do I get rid of the ie automatic start and changing browser default?
Are there any further cause of concern or am I just dealing with leftover annoyances?
How do I remove any remnants of the virus/trojan/malware?
Should I be concerned about my Firefox & Firefox password add-on utility security issues? (As the malware seems to be mainly ie related)

Thanks in advance

My Internet Explorer (IE6) start page (previously www.yahoo.com) has been replaced by 'http://213.159.117.134/index.php'. I've tried changing my home page option in IE's properties back to www.yahoo.com, but the 'intruder site' keeps reseting the address field and coming back again...

I'll attempt to descibe what happens exactly once I'm connected to the net...
Once I've connected to the internet, opening IE takes me to 'http://213.159.117.134/index.php' , 'www.Cool Web Search.com', ’about:blank’, a few ads about fixing spyware on my pc and another window named 'tpx/open/console_out.php' or something like that...one after the other in succession...(then again, I’m not sure I got the order right…that isn’t important anyway…)

Hi All. this is the first time I'm using the forum. Would appreciate any help please.

Everytime I go to my toolbar in explorer to review internet options, the home page is set as

res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocpa.dll/security.htm#subID=PRFV;6784

Every time I try to change it to the default page I want http://www.google.com/, it changes it in the box but when you check back it reverts back to

res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocpa.dll/security.htm#subID=PRFV;6784

I haved scanned with SpyBot S&D and used AVG but have had no luck. I have windows 98, yes I know I'm way behind the times! I'm not an expert but ran regedit yesterday and found the above entry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/InternetExporer/main. The above value data is linked to the value name "Start Page". I tried modifying the data to google, but again it reverts back!

Would someone be able to help me with this and guide me with what I should do?

Many thanks.

We have a domain environment with the roughly 300 computers.  Almost all the computers are Windows 7 and we have has the default home page define my GPO for years.

July 2017 we had about 50 Computers change the default  homepage that points to a Microsoft link that redirects to a msn page. The msn page is no longer a valid page.  I cannot find a pattern between the computers,  The policies are
still apply and it just does not reset the default webpage for the user profile.  If you reset the Internet explorer settings everything works as normal and he gets the policy homepage.

I ruled out malware  with multiple tools could find nothing to suggest it had been hijacked.

If I log into a different  user account on the same computer that user account does not have the same problem.  My Theory was a old Microsoft patch some how did this, but I could not find a patch that had ran on the affected PC's.

Could use some help on how to allow a user to set their default browser permanently even with IE11 being set via Group Policy as the usual default.

For logistical reasons, we are still on IE11 instead of using Edge for our default browser - mostly because our software hasn't been 100% tested with Edge and to avoid overall confusion in having made the jump as a company to Windows 10 recently.

I successfully created a default configuration associations .xml file and it is pushing IE11 as the default.

However, knowing we have some users who would like to use a browser other than IE11 and let it be their default, we're trying to accommodate them while still enforcing the policy in place. Additionally, we don't want to 100% dissuade users from
utilizing Edge, so we haven't tried removing it from public visibility within the OS.  The users in question are local admins on their machines and should, in theory, be allowed that capability.

Any suggestions?

Hello, ecologists, economists, and efficiency experts:

Can I change the default print dialog on IE to use page range of 1 (first page) instead of all (the current default)?

98% of the pages I print to paper in a browser only require the first page being printed. Those 5-15 pages of esoteric user comments that trail behind my single page are often tossed in the wastebasket.

Perhaps there is a registry tweak or an add-on? Perhaps someone would create an open-source add-on for this? Please help. Thank you!

The way I do it is to high lite what you want to print and copy/paste to something like Notepad or Wordpad. Then just print from there.

I am posting my Hijack this log below.

I have used Hijack this and attempted to fix the first references to http://213.159.117.132/index.php. Each time I fix it, it reoccurs. This directs me to a Cool Web Search site and I can't change it.

Periodically, my IE launches two pages, windows\dl.html and one that says connector object.

My system is extremely slow.

I have run Adware 6.0, Spybot Search and Destroy, CWSshredder, NoAdware and my Symantic Antivirus. Nothing is found.

Help me......you're my only hope.

Hello, B.C.

My english is not 100% perfect, so I apologize.

After looking at how many problems were solved here I wanted to show mine, since yesterday, while not browsing or playing a fullscreen game, my default browser randomly opens, if I am playing a game, it minimizes it which makes it unplayable. And when I am browsing, no matter what browser is, my current tab switch to the browser home page, for example, In opera my home page is the speed dial, while browsing on a website e.j. wikipedia or any other, it changes to the browser home page for no reason, and that happens in all browsers, no matter what the default one is.

I do believe this is caused by a malware. I scanned my computer with both avast! Free Antivirus and Windows Defender and found nothing. I deleted opera and made firefox my default browser, it randomly opened constantly as it did with opera. I restored my system to 04/12/12 and the problem was still present (I also rebooted many times), however, as I deleted opera when restoring my system it was still there as my default browser but, when whatever was causing the problem attempted to launch it, it popped up a window telling that the launcher file could not be run, and so that window popped up randomly and it was actually the same thing, as when I deleted the launcher file, it stopped popping up the window (and a browser, because I had no default browser). When clicking the opera icon in my tool bar it opened opera like it was never rem... Read more

Recently installed the latest version of Avant browser. I have set it not to be my default browser or to check if it is default on start up. I have Firefox set as my default browser and to check if it is on start up. The problem is every time I launch Avant and use it it makes itself the default browser. I know this because when I launch Firefox it says it's not the default and also if I wan to set it as the default. I do and when I use Avant again it steals the default browser setting again. I asked about this on the Avant forum and nobody has a solution. Most people on the Avant forum use that browser as their default so they don't care if it makes itself default. Any suggestions on how to stop this? I find this behaviour from a browser to be malware like.

About a few days ago, I decided to install Skype to update it from a website I never used before (Sigh. I know, I know. I shouldn't have done that). I have done.... practically everything. I used Avast, which deleted 5 viruses only. Malwarebytes said it found about 500 or so threat and fixed them and I even deleted them from Quarantine to delete them from my computer and restarted my computer as asked. However, SpyHunter 4 actually still detects majority of them and can fix them, but I don't want to pay money to get rid of a virus :/. I deleted some files manually yesterday in my registry that contain Mystartsearch but the virus still persists; along with some others.

When I got the virus, it kept installing random programs and I couldn't control it; it even removed some of my shortcuts and took control over my Google Chrome. I had to turn off my WiFi so it stops downloading files and I had to remove them manually along with some hidden extensions it downloaded. I removed mystartsearch address manually from Google Chrome in Internet Explorer, removed some Regedit files but saw no way am I going to remove 428 threats manually from my Registry Editor and many other places.

But nothing; Mystartsearch tab keeps popping up whenever I open a new Google Chrome app even if I remove it from my default browser section and other settings in Chrome app.

I don't know what's the solution; is there some program that removes all these threats from my Registry... Read more

Hi,
so, a couple days ago I made a terrible mistake and I tried to download a movie as a torrent and during the progress I got mystartsearch/istartsurf (it keeps changing its name) on my computer. Now I can't seem to get rid of it. For these couple of days, I have tried my best to remove it with the help of removal guides on the internet and some apps like AdwCleaner. Those apps do remove it along with every other app that has magically appeared to my laptop, but once I have used my laptop for approx. 10 to 20 minutes, it's back like it was never gone and my Avast! starts going crazy.
From what I have understood, it's not necessarily a virus, but it still is really annoying because it keeps closing my browser and I can't do anything on the internet in fear of the browser closing while I'm doing something important. This nasty thing has also slowed my computer remarkably (this is one month old).
Is there any way I can remove it without having to pay for it? I can't afford a computer repairer, those are really expensive in my country.
I'm sorry if there already is a topic for this problem, but I am kind of in a rush because I don't know when my browser is about to close again so I didn't have time to check that out.
I would be so grateful if someone took a bit of time of their day to help me (:

It all started with mystartsearch which installed a browser plugin and redirecting my home page to its website. I uninstalled it via the control panel and removed the browser plugin, after a couple days I found blocknsurf 'ads' and coupon popups and generally a new window would open every once in a while when I'm browsing.

Currently I'm running Avira Free and CCleaner

I've followed the 4-step process:
I'm facing a issue with DDS with the following message "DDS is not meant to run in 'Compatibility Mode'. The program shall now exit."

here is the log from MBAM:
