Q: creating WINDOWS 10 shortcut key for the STICKY NOTES app not working

When I try to create a shortcut key in the PROPERTIES box using "CTRL+ALT+S" for WIn 10's STICKY NOTES, it works when I put it on the desktop. However, as soon as I move it to my own folder (with my other shortcuts) the shortcut key no longer works. How come?

Preferred Solution: creating WINDOWS 10 shortcut key for the STICKY NOTES app not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

No. It's designed primarily for touchscreens to write with the stylus on the note so the font is superfluous.

You can, as a workaround, paste preformatted text from a web page or something like Wordpad and it will retain that formatting.

So My wife and I have the exact same laptops running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit..

On my wifes comp everytime she logs into Windows she is unhappily greeted with a blank sticky note. And I cannot stop it from happening....

I consider myself relatively computer savy but this has me beat. Even tried 3rd party software to disable it, but it still pops up. She doesn't want me to remove it from her computer as she uses it occasionally, but would prefer to CHOOSE whether to use it or not!

Please tell me how to stop this annoying thing popping up everytime she logs in!

Go to Start and type msconfig in the box then right mouse on it in the upper screen and run as admin. You will see a series of tabs in the frame and one is startup, look there to see if Sticky Notes is set to load when the PC comes up if so uncheck it and the next boot it will no longer be an issue.

Not if you have Notes with content filled in.
Hover on the Notes Taskbar for the thumbnail and close Notes with that.
You can always invoke Stiky Notes from Start/AllApps without the 'Workspace'

Is there in our universe a program that allows to create "post-it" like
notes attached to particular windows or applications? I.e. when the
particular window appears the particular note appears, when the part.
windows disappears the part. note disappears...

I found that StickyNote 9.0, Quick Notes Plus, Ptimemo, Mystickies and
the next version of Stickies (6.0) should have this feature but
actually this feature is implemented very primitively in these
programs.
For example, if I use Internet Explorer with multi-tab they don't
distinguish one tab from another: they only look at the title of a
window (Internet Explorer...) ignoring its content.

Are there better programs with this feature?

Basically, for a few reasons, I am looking to reinstall windows on my main hard drive.
I am not looking to format the drive, just to 'clean it up' as some drivers are preventing me starting the computer up.

Will reinstalling Windows not allow me access to the saved sticky notes file? I know there is the WindowsOld folder but not sure if it would let me access the file. The sticky notes file has lists of some things I need to do so I really do need to recover it after (re) install if possible and then use it to replace to new sticky notes file (that came with the new install).

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Will reinstalling Windows save my sticky notes file?

You say you want to reinstall.

Without formatting.

"just to clean it up".

If my problem was drivers, I wouldn't normally consider a reinstall, but there must be more to the story.

I'm not sure of your actual intent.

Is there any reason you can't manually locate this "sticky notes file" and copy it to a safe place so you can do what you need to do without worrying about it?

Provide more details and fill out your system specifications as best you can.

Hi everybody,
One of my business customers is having trouble with his desktop UI, an issue I still haven't resolved.
The customer uses a lot of Sticky Notes on his desktop (about 15), when these Sticky Notes are shown on his second screen, all his software like AutoCAD and other programs respond very slow on both of his screens.
When he is typing in a program, all the letters will appear a few seconds later and mouse movement is slowed.
When I close or minimize the Sticky Notes, everything works fine.
The system is running on one of the latest Xeon processors, 64GB of memory, a Solid State Drive, a Quadro K4000 GPU and Windows 7 Pro.
I already tried to update the videodriver and checked the recources the Sticky Notes uses, this is around 7MB and almost no CPU.

I also tried to set the process prioity but still no luck, anyone got a suggestion?

It's strange-- how do I say it-- my laptop has three screens? Like, every time I printscreen and look at the preview I see this:

See, the sticky notes went to the second screen and I can't retrieve them. Someone help? Some of those notes are really important. Thank you!

And also, can you recommend me another sticky note app? This is the second time it happened and now it's getting on my nerves.

A:My sticky notes went off screen? Dell Inspiron 15R, Windows 8

Hi shixhun, are you actually using 3 screens or is that just how it's configured without 2 extra screens? anyway, you can go to screen resolution by right clicking on your desktop and screen resolution, this will take you to this screen

I do use 2 screens for my setup so I can show you how to remove a display, first of all, identify which display is the primary by clicking on "identify", this should display a giant number on the screen, take note of that number, secondly, under "multiple displays", a dropdown option for "show desktop only on [number]" will appear, click the one which has your number and this will show the desktop as it's supposed to be on one display and will pull your sticky notes back to your desktop.

Hope this helps

Hello champs,

Is there a way to stick these notes to the desktop permanently? in other words, I know that if you write one and never delete it, it will stay there even after a reboot but the issue here is that I use "Show desktop" button a lot and this button minimizes everything accept my icons . So I need this sticky to be sticky forever and never be minimized even by the "Show desktop" icon. Any clue?

Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to creat a shortcut for Sticky Notes on my ObjectDock, but what appears won't work, because it can't find stikynot.exe at the given path...%windir%\system32\StikyNot.exe. The only difference between this path and where ObjectDock looks, is that instead of starting with %windir%, it looks at C:\Windows, even with the original path entered.

When I attempt to browse to the file's location either with ObjectDock or my file manager, the file doesn't appear, even though I have the OS set to show hidden & protected system files, but when I use the "find location" button in the shortcut's properties, it takes me right to it.

Why is this file sometimes visible, and other times not?

A:Sticky Notes

Hello Seekermeister,

Strange, the file should be located at C:\Windows\system32\StikyNot.exe. It is not a hidden system file, so it should show up when browsing to it.

Have you already tried creating a shortcut directly from the exe file and copying it onto ObjectDock?

I've used a 3M program before which had issues with multiple screens sometimes, so I was happy to see the new standard sticky app.

I'm a bit disappointed with MS for letting this behave like any other app window - when I click the show desktop button, I'd like to see all my stickies that I pasted there, right? That'd be close to real world behavior IMHO.

Instead you get an entry in the in the task bar, which works fine to access your stickies, but it doesn't feel natural.

Cheers, HaJo

A:Sticky Notes

I keep it pinned to Taskbar and of course allow it in msconfig so any To Do lists remain on my desktop. It pretty much hangs on the desktop as the gadgets do.

I agree that both should not yield to Show Desktop, but MS must have a reason or they should change it soon.

A:How to get are my own Sticky Notes back?

Did your old Sticky Notes offer a Backup feature for your notes? Did you use it? If so the new version may have an Import or Restore feature. Also, a new version upgrade will overwrite the old version but whether data is lost or not is where the data gets stored, most Windows-based programs will default to Documents or Pictures or Videos, etc., depending upon the program and format.
