I tried to update my thunderbolt software and as a result, anytime i plug my charger into the USB-C Connector - the one closest to the rear of the machine, the screen wil cycle on and off indefinitely. Hello,the thunderbolt on my X380 Yoga completely stopped working. As I try to connect a P27h for instance, the laptop charges but does not recognize the monitor or USB Hub.I installed every update available on system update and tried to update the Thunderbolt Software and Firmware. The software installed fine but upon updating the firmware the following promt appears:    When I check the version inside the Thunderbold software, this is what shows up:    I am running Windows 10 Home 1803. Any idea why this is not working? Is my thunderbolt controller not working properly?Thanks

There is an issue with the update for the tunderbolt firmware when updating through the system update utility. This is a known issue that the Engineering department has been working on. The only known resolution to this issue so far has been to replace the system board. Im sorry for the inconvenience this is causing. If the device is still under warranty i would speak with the support center to have a tech install a new board.

Because I didn't liked USB 3.0 ethernet chipsets and USB-based ethernet cannot bear some network-intensive tasks, I wanted to use PCIe-based Thunderbolt ethernet controller on my XPS 15 9550. As there is no Thunderbolt 3 "PCIe" ethernet adapter (except docks), I chose to buy Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and Thunderbolt 2-based ethernet adapter.
I plugged it into the XPS 15 9550 (tested with BIOS 1.1.19, 1.2.14, 1.2.16 and latest Thunderbolt firmware with NVM version 16), and the PCIe device did not pop up. Instead, only USB billboard device is appearing saying that "Alternate Mode configuration not attempted". Both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.10 failed to detect the device. I moved this configuration to MSI GS63 laptop, and it detected ethernet controller successfully (that laptop utilizing NVM firmware version 18).
It seems that other vendors are affected with lower NVM firmware version involving setup with Thunderbolt adapter: see the case of Lenovo too. Do you have planned Thunderbolt NVM firmware update for XPS 15 9550? Looks like XPS 13 9360 is using newer Thunderbolt NVM firmware version, though.

I just got my X1 Extreme yesterday. I updated the BIOS to 1.15 and also updated other drivers. The one pending thing is the Thunderbolt firmware update utility. The first pop-up says "do not connect any Thunderbolt device", but then a second pop-up right before the firmware update says "connect at least one Thunderbolt device. I cancelled the update for now due to the conflicting pop-up messages. Note - I do not have any Thunderbolt devices connected to my X1E laptop. Can I upgrade Thunderbolt firmware safely with no Thunderbolt devices connected, or?

I mistakenly assumed that a usb-c port would suffice as a 4 way usb 3.0 connection at thunderbolt 3 bandwidth on my p52s. This morning after waking my ThinkPad P52s (Windows 10 x64) from sleep the following happened: 1. The "A Thunderbolt controller has experienced a problem and cannot connect to devices or other computers until new firmware is installed" dialog box popped up several times. However, it no longer shows up. I believe (after some googling) this means the controller went into "safe mode" for some reason and will only accept firmware updates now.2. Both USB-C ports stopped working properly (peripherals connected to either of those ports are not functioning). I was able to use those ports just fine few days ago.3. The 65W Lenovo power adapter is now detected as "15W USB-C power" instead of "AC power". This results in batteries charging only when power consumption does not exceed 15W (i.e. when laptop is powered off or idle). Most likely due to the same reason the following message is now shown during every reboot: "The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended model which was shipped with the system. To boot with the AC adapter, please connect the AC adapter which was shipped with the system. Press Esc to continue." Thunderbolt controller is enabled in BIOS. "Thunderbolt in BIOS Assist Mode" is disabled. It looks like Power Delivery is not being negotiated between the power adapter and the laptop due to (malfunctioning?) Hi everyone, I have a Thinkpad p52s hooked up to a newly bought ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W (40AN0135US). I recently also purched a second external monitor, and want to operate them through the dock now (with laptop closed)Both monitors are Dell U2518D, and they have a resolution of 2560 x 1440. However, the moment I plug in both monitors, one will only be available at a resolution of 1920 x 1080. What I've tried so far:updated Windows 10updated all p52s driversswitched cables from HDMI to mDPtried all four monitor plugs in the docktried another U2518D monitor (we have more at the office)My laptop screen is only HD so I can't compare it, but when I open the lid I simply have one more HD screen To no avail. I'm going to admit off the bat that the only reason I've signed up for this forum is to bring light to lenovo's incredibly poor customer support.  I had a brand new P52s that would overheat whenever it was plugged into the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock.  Timeline of the issue and order of events are shown below.  Note that I did the best I could at matching up the days with the events, but there were so many calls and so many people/departments that I spoke with that I can't even remember them all.  It is my hope that somebody at Lenovo actually cares about their customers and will get this case resolved.
 
Issue Timeline (dates/order of events not exact but are close? I am going by memory for the phone calls and trying to recall the best I can):

3/6/18 ? Received laptop
3/20/18 Service ticket 405W34J ? I believe that this was the original ticket for the overheating issue, but I?m not 100% sure.
4/3/18 Service ticket 405Z3GW 4/3/17 I believe this is one of the overheating complaints that I filed.  If it is the one I remember, the technician wanted me to update all my bios.
4/3/18 Service ticket 405Z3SM ? Updating BIOS did not solve issue.  Technician immediately stated that this meant the system board was shot and needed replacement.  I asked for them to log in to the machine remotely to do further diagnostics, but they refused.  They sent me a box to send the laptop to the Lenov... Hi, I'm having issues with my external 4k display to only be able to operate at 30Hz. I have my laptop connected to a generation 2 Thunderbolt 3 dock via the provided cable, and from there I have tried both DisplayPort and HDMI cables (several) to connect to my display.All the technical information I have seen says that my laptop plus the dock should be able to operate at 60Hz even at this resolution, but I'm unable to lock down the settings that enable me to do that. I have pulled the latest BIOS, TB3 FW, display drivers, Intel chipset drivers from the product page.My screen is: AOC U3277FWQ if that matters. I'm running Windows 10 Pro 1809. Has anyone battled with the same issue? I'm running out of ideas on how to solve this. The HDMI port on the side is apparently only 1.4 so this would only support the [email protected], but I'm not using it at the moment. I used System Upate to install the latest Lenovo Power Management Driver 1.67.14.05.  After this, I've noticed that my external speakers which are plugged into the Thunderbolt Dock pop whenever there is some sort of audio/video on the screen right as it loads or after leaving a web page even if no video/audio is actually playing.  This also occurs outside of just webpages, with an application that gives me audio notifications, there's a subtle pop before the sounds plays as well. I isolated the issue down to the Thunderbolt Dock only.  If I plug my speakers into the laptop directly and use the built-in Realtek HD Audio, no issue at all.  Something changed with regards to how audio is output through the dock and/or with this latest Power Management Driver update.  It's actually very annoying the popping sound that the speakers make, especially when they're turned up loud.  I tried some old solution that was Windows 10 specific with changing the minimum processor % while plugged in to 100% instead of the default of 5% in the power settings but that didn't help at all.  I'm pretty confident that this latest driver is what introduced this new issue. Anyone else experiencing this same issue, feel free to comment.

I used the Lenovo System Update (v5.07.0074) and was prompted to download and install (was listed as Critical Update) the Firmware to my Dock.  As always, I closed all applications and sat as the Firmware downloaded. I got the expected prompt to ensure I was plugged in. I then watched as the upgraded prompted me to install. Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I then noticed that none of the pass-through power was working on the dock.  So, I unplugged it again.  Unplugged everything connected to it, and held the power button down for 15 seconds in an effort. All of this at the recommendation of Lenovo Support. Who, by the way, was very nice and well spoken. Nothing we did worked. I happened to have another Thunderbolt 3 cable in my bag, and no change. I powered up my new X1 Yoga, and connected the cable. No power. This wasn't passing power at all. I confirmed the Intel Thunderbolt app was running, and confirmed that Windows was not even detecting the Dock.  Lenovo is sending me a replacement. I note a new P51 (models 20HH, 20HJ) Thunderbolt Firmware update has just been posted on the support drivers page (24 Jul 2018) which is great news, but it's release note refers to Thunderbolt driver / software version 17.3.74.400. The Thunderbolt driver software currently available on the P51 20HH, 20HJ support drivers page is version 17.1.64.250, which is quite old. Please would you also put the latest Thunderbolt Software on this support drivers page. BTW: The P51 (models 20MM, 20MN) support drivers page does has the latest Thunderbolt Software (17.3.74.400), so I assume this could be installed on a P51 (models 20HH, 20HJ), as all models use the same Thunderbolt controller - ID 15D9 (Intel JHL6340).

My software version is 17.4.78.500; App Version 17.4.78.15; Service Version 17.4.78.14 and Controller Driver is 17.4.78.21.  It's listed as the newest on my Drive update page.  NVM Firmware is 23.00.  Please help as I got the the window warning message to not use suspend or power down and when I click OK, it bombs out.  Will not update.  I have unpluged all USB-C software, when I try.  The instructions are kind of misleading..    Thank you.

Hello, I am trying to use a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter (StarTech brand) to connect my P50 to a Resident Audio T4 Thunderbolt audio interface. The device is briefly detected and then disappears. Hi, I just recieved a 200W thunderbolt 3 docking station for my Z book. I grabbed the latest driver and firmware from HP. I installed the driver with no issue. But when I go to install the firmware I get this message "Your Host Device is not ready, Firmware Upgrade Failed!!!, Please reboot your PC then try again!!!". I have tried restarting and reinstalling, both form my desktop and using the HP Download and Install Assistant , but to no avail. Not too sure what to do now.

Hello to everyone, Since some weeks, Lenovo Vantage is showing up Thunderbolt Firmware update tool 17.0.0.3-N27TF16W to update firmware to NVM 20. I tried to install it multiple times, manually and via Vantage, but no success. Although there is no error or warning during installation, Lenovo Vantage keeps showing this update, and according to Thunderbolt software, installed firmware is NVM 14. Thunderbolt Controller driver version is 17.4.80.94. All other updates of my laptop are installed (including BIOS, Windows,...). What can I do ? Thank you for your help. Fred

Just wondering.  Are you running Vantage to check for updates?  I get that whenever I check for updates.  IF I dont check for updates it doesnt come up.  The other way it doesnt come up is if i disable Thunderbolt in BIOS.  BUT if I disable it in BIOS I get a fault error when I run Vantage to check for updates.  A Lenovo Employee says that it shouldnt generate an error and they are trouble shooting that.

Hi, What should be the "standard" version of the Thunderbolt firmware for a recent T570 20H9 machine?When I look at my configuration, I see 4.0.4 ... (see below jpg file)But the AKITIO manufacturer of the Thunderbolt T3T adapter requires a revision 16 for the firmware (Thunderbolt software number is ok as it should be at least 15.3.40.275). My external Thunderbolt disk is a Rugged "RAID-0 mode" 4Tb diskSo I use  AKITIO T3T adapter to connect Thinkpad thunderbolt-3 portto my external diskI can not find revision 16 on the Lenovo site ...Any advice? Regards

Just recently purchased and received a HP Spectre 15-bl075nr. I am trying to use a Thunderbolt DisplayPort adapter (Plugable model # TBT3-DP2X), but it requires the Thunderbolt Controller to have NVM Firmware version 14 or higher. Unfortunately, this laptop only has NVM Firmware version 9. What is the best way to for me to update the NVM Firmware?

Hello, we are trying to update Thunderbolt firmware on one of my colleague's Lenovo P50 since it does not recognise Akitio external PCIe box (his NVM version is 16). We updated all the drivers including BIOS. We updated the Thunderbolt Software. But we cannot update the Thunderbolt firmware. We downloaded this: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/be/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-... namely: n1etf08w.exe We tried to install it as administrator, but it gives an error, something along the lines of: "PM driver is old, please update the PM driver first.". We updated the Power Management driver: https://support.lenovo.com/be/en/downloads/ds032258 And we can see in device manager that it is currently the latest version. But Thunderbolt firmware still does not install giving the same error saying that PM driver is old. Is PM driver the Power Management driver or something else? What might be the problem?

Anyone see this issue before? 

When I start the update, Thunderbolt doesn't appear in the device list. When the update starts, I briefly see the device in device manager, but then the update fails with this error. Then, Thunderbolt disappears from Device Manager. It's almost like Thunderbolt isn't turned on. I've tried disabling and reenabling in the BIOS to no avail.

I see updates for the Thunderbolt Controller and driver have been released. I see nothing about any "fixes" in the release notes, only "enhancements". This is a little disconcerting since there have been a number of issues with the Thunderbolt controller. A manufacturer of a new Thunderbolt 3 dock has discovered problems with it. Will this controller or any related BIOS settings be fixed?

When installing the thunderbolt firmware update utility I receive the following error: "No active Thunderbolt(TM) controller found in the system or Thunderbolt software is not present in the system. Make sure you have Thunderbolt software installed. Then connet Thunderbolt device and press OK to retry or cancel to abort firmware update process." I have the software installed. And the thunderbolt port doesn't give power to my TB16 dock (no light when plugging the cable in unlike on my dell precision work laptop).

For some reason the firmware for thunderbolt won't update on my p70. I've tried installing from a command prompt and using the installer. Either way it seems to work but the firmware version doesn't change. I have the hdmi cable connected to a monitor and have the thunderbolt software running. I've rebooted and tried again. I've booted into safe mode then rebooted and tried again. I've uninstalled the thunderbolt controller and tried again all to no avail. Ideas anyone? Thanks in advance.

Lenovo is in the process of publishing a Service TIP that includes step-by-step instructions on how to check the Thunderbolt firmware version as well as a comprehensive guide to installing it.

I have a new T580 laptop that has stopped recognizing devices plugged into the Thunderbolt port. So, brand new WD15 connected via USB-C to an Inspirion 7000 7278 laptop under Linux. No complaints with the display, ethernet or USB-ness. I did notice, however, that there is a newer firmware available. No biggie, I boot into windows and attempt to flash the update. And then I get the 'no thunderbolt dock found cannot flash...'
So, just how are we supposed to flash firmware on the dock if we don't have a thunderbolt connection?

Hello all, I have a problem with my Thunderbolt 3. I had to do a clean install of windows 10. I used the built-in function of windows 10. And did a hard reset, so no bloatware survived. After the reset everything worked well, but the thunderbolt software did not install itself, like the rest did. I downloaded the driver and software from the support page for my device. (here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/nl/nl/products/laptops-and-netbooks/700-series/720s-13ikb-type-81bv/81b...). But after this it still doesn't work..! I think I'm missing the firmware part.(Like this for the thinkpad x1 carbon: https://support.lenovo.com/nl/nl/downloads/ds120382) It looks like this:How it should look Print Screen Thunderbolt SoftwareI contacted Lenovo support here in The Netherlands but he said I had to do a reset. I know this isn't gonna work, because it'll just reset itself to standard Windows. And then i still don't have the firmware..Anybody an idea or know where I could maybe get the firmware?

Hi, i have a T470 that connects to a UCB C Lenvo thunderbolt dock, occasinly it requires the firmware to be updated (i done this last month) however it is erroring again saying i need to conncact my pc manufacturer for new firmware, i have just checked and there is no new firmware on the lneovo website, i installed all the latested packages that were there, does nayone know where i can get the new firmware and if there is any workaround? The dock is not showing as connected in the dock software window, however the dock light goes from yellow to white when i polug it into the laptop, so it does see the connection they just cant talk to each other. Thanks

I have a T470S type 20HF running windows 10 (version 1703) that suddenly the Intel Thunderbolt Driver was updated and gives me the error "A Thunderbolt controller has experienced a problem and cannot connect to devices or other computers until new firmware is installed." The computer is connected through a usb-c cable to a dockin station which has two monitors connected through display port cables. I tried uninstalling the Intel Tunderbolt Software (ver. 17.4.78.500) and reinstalling it.I tried installing thinkpad thunderbolt 3 dock and usc-c dock driver v10017.I tried to install new firmware with the file N1WTH07W but it says "cannot find correct bin file" I still get the same error and cannot use the monitors connected to the docking station. Please help.

Today, I noticed that my USB-C docking station was no longer passing video from my T470 to my monitor. The monitor's HDMI cable is plugged into a docking station that is connected to my T470 via USB-C. It's been working fine for more than a year. All other connectivity via the docking station works (e.g., keyboard, mouse, ethernet, power). The docking station, including video, works just fine with another (non-Lenovo) PC. My first thought was to check Lenovo Vantage or the support website for Thunderbolt software and/or firmware updates. The most recent software is several months old and already installed on my machine. I can see that there's a relatively recent firmware update on the website, but it's specifically for Windows 10 1809 or older. I am running 1903. When trying to install that firmware update, I receive an error message (can't find suitable bin file). Vantage does not find any updates for me to install. I did see this post, which mentions HDMI output not working as a symptom (among others). However, it recommends the Thunderbolt software that has been installed for several months as well as the firmware that I cannot install. I have two questions:Is anyone else having problems with HDMI output via their T470 USB-C/Thunderbolt port?Is there any news on when there will be a new T470 Thunderbolt firmware update for Windows 10 versions newer than 1809?

I have a T470 20HD running Windows 10 Pro. Both the operating system and all Lenovo updates have been applied. Attached to thos is a Plugable-brand USB3 dual HDMI docking station that's been driving a pair of Dell SE2417HG(HDMI2) screens. Or did, until I did the Integrated Firmware of Thunderbolt Function 1.0.12.0-N1QTF16W update, at which point it now only drives a single screen. Windows sees both displays but now can't use one. I've tested both displays and they work fine otherwise, and if I unplug one display the dock will "fail over" to the other display without an issue.Is there a way to roll back this firmware update, or am I basically out of luck?

Hi all Been using the thunderbolt for few weeks, struggle to make it to work with multiple restarts and shutdown before it start to disapply on my monitor. Today non of that worked so I tried to uninstall the "Thunderbolt Software" and update the "Thunderbolt FW" but it's not working with multiple errors as below: 1- TB - SW version 17.4.80.41 installed/ NVM details are not showing. 2- TB - FW update error "No Active Thunderbolt(TM) Controller Found in the system 3- Detect 1810.exe ends with errorCapturing Current NVM Version.....Capturing Current NVM Version failed!Error: 0x20B SDK_NO_CONTROLLER - 4- TB is enabled in bios 5- Thunderbolt Controller is not showing under Manage devices, though show hidden is selected 6- Tried to reset while battery and charger off using the hole behind the laptop. Didn't work 7- Lenovo update showing no updates available, also windows and intel. Now the TB port is completely inactive.  Apprecieate any guidnce

Hello,  My Thunderbolt dock stopped working with the error message "Not all Thunderbolt ports are functioning properly, please contact PC manufacturer for a firmware update".  So I went to "Display and Videos Graphics" and tried to run the "Thunderbolt firmware update tool for Windows tool"  and get the error message below. Any idea how this can be fixed?  Thank you!

I installed firmware update N25TF08W via the utility. After doing so only one of my thunderbolt ports will actually charge the computer. The other recognizes that the power supply is plugged in but fails to start charging. I don't know the underlying issue yet, but a PSA...
