I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can't check for updates for some reason. The thing is, I think this may be part of a larger issue with connectivity. I'm also having connection issues with gmail and youtube as well. In Gmail, sometimes things don't load after I click on them, and I can't attach files to e-mails. Another forum I like to go to loads very slowly on firefox and won't load at all on IE 11. My internet appears to be fine as most sites aren't giving me trouble that I know of. Are they all connected?

I did do a windows update last week and installed a bunch of security updates and everything seemed fine then. So, what's going on? I can't attach the CBS folder, as it is way too big. It is 285 MB. Is that normal?

I ran SURT and it installed hotfix KB947821 and it didn't fix anything. I then ran sfc /verifyonly and it said there were no violations.

Hi Canuck or Die & welcome to sevenforums.

Probably some corrupt/missing files/folders

CBS folder can be large don't need entire folder

Run SURT & post CheckSUR.log

A:Windows Vista Update Error Code 80072ee2

Hi, I just saw this problem in another forum and the person who had the problem said to do the following , See if it helps you to.

1) Go to Start -> Run
2) Type in MSCONFIG and press enter
3) Under the 'BOOT' tab, tick the 'Safe Boot' box and select 'Minimal'
4) Press OK and proceed to restarting the computer when prompted
5) Once computer restarts log in and open Window Explorer
6) Navigate to your Windows directory and look for SoftwareDistribution
folder
7) Rename this folder to SoftwareDistribution.old
8) Go back into MSCONFIG and turn off 'Safe Boot' and restart
9) Run Windows update again.

SUMMARY: Windows has somehow managed to corrupt its own system files,
possibly during one of its previous updates... Once you get the Windows
update to work, you will notice that Windows Defender will start to
work.

Just built a new gaming pc myself, all new parts, first build so maybe there's something I'm not doing right. But I was following this guide for windows 8.1 installation However I decided not to do any of those tweaks under "System Setup after Installation" I just skipped to installing drivers so it's a pretty normal installation. That's just extra information, probably not relevant.

Installed windows 8.1 OEM.

Installed my drivers and I connected to internet but when I try to check for windows updates I get this error

Code: 80072EE2

Looked online for a solution, found one on windows website. I then downloaded WindowsUpdateDiagnostic from another PC and ran it on the PC i'm having issues with, it fixed something but I still can't update.

I also can't open a webpage using internet explorer even thought I'm connected to the internet. When I type any address it just loads "waiting for ..."
I've also noticed that windows is not activated when I try to activate it I get "Windows can't activate. Try again later."

Don't know if relevant but I actually installed Windows the first two times incorrectly, I mean it installed fine but I was trying to install on a GPT formatted SSD (used diskpart with command prompt at windows install window to clean and convert to GPT) but even though I formatted with GPT I kept ending up with a MBR formatted SSD. The problem was I wasn't booting from a UEFI Device. Third time I made sure I did and it worke... Read more

Hello everyone,

I have a couple of users here on our network that are using Windows 7 but are unable to receive updates at all. They are able to access the internet. That particular office accesses all of their programs via a Citrix connection. They are using a SonicWall Firewall. There are only a handful of users who are using Windows 7 there, and they are the only ones having problems with automatic update. All of the XP users are having no problems at all. I have disabled the ethernet device, but that didn't work. Can I please get some help?

Hello,

I have been working patiently for the better part of three days, but cannot resolve the issue. I can no longer use Windows Update. Something seems to have happened on or after 19 July -- the final date that updates were installed. Thereafter, only failure messages in the log (now wiped clean, as a result of following one of the suggestions I found). When I click "check for updates", I receive a message that a problem occurred. The error code is 80072EE2
When I then click in that same window on "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update" I always get the message "Install new Windows Update software. To check for Windows Updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update. Install now." Naturally I click on this, only to receive error code 800F081F.

I have tried out several suggestions that did seemed relevant, including the 12 methods I found at
Windows Update service not running/ cmd says parameter incorrect - Microsoft Community

While trying to execute Method 5, I found that HKLM\COMPONENTS was missing from view. I found instructions on how to use Load Hive to make this visible again. No difference to Win Update.

I skipped Method 7, because my antivirus software is a MS product and has been in use for years, without any problems.

Method 10 proved impossible to execute: it seems to contain outdated information: you can no longer manually download these elements; instead you are redirected to a page that helpfully (irony)... Read more

Sounds likely to be a malware infection to me.
The error code you are getting implies that WU cannot access the servers at MS.

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM Premium' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Hello!

I have been unable to update windows even after trying a plethora of "solutions" on the net.

I'm enumerating the problems and the steps I've tried to rectify them for your kind perusal.

My specifications are:

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 ProfessionalVersion: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
System Manufacturer: Lenovo
System Model: 2767W3A (T400)
System Type: x86-based PCProcessor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2.53GHz, 2534 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processors Installed
Physical Memory (RAM): 2.00 GB

For Internet access, I'm using Easy Tether Lite (No root), tethered to my laptop viaSamsung Galaxy Duos GT-I8552 v. 4.1.2

Everything was hunky-dory till a fortnight ago when these problems started.

These are the problems I'm having:

1.) I'm unable to update windows even after setting it to automatic update.First it gave the error code 80072F78 but now it's persistent with 80072EE2.

2.) In the Device Manager - Other devices, the following two programs (devices?) have yellow exclamation marks, and even after trying innumerable times I haven't been ableto update their drivers. These same two devices are listed as 'Problem Devices' in System information. The error code for all of these is that the drivers for these devices is notinstalled (and I'm unable to download them).

We have a new laptop we are trying to deploy on our network HP elitebook 8440p's with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

When connected straight out to the outside world they do windows updates fine. However, when I point them to my internal WSUS server they come back with the error code 80072EE2.
The WSUS server itself appears to work for all other computers in the domain apart from this new model.
I have tried rebuilding windows 7 Pro from scratch. I have also checked the registry for any vendor WSUS servers and there are non apart from mine.
We are not running any proxy to connect to the server. We have eliminated Firewall and any security software from the equation. Tried with and without AV, as well as fresh build with no AD ever installed. Tried with the firewall on and with it off. Also
connected the laptop directly to the network the WSUS server was on with no luck.
Checked the laptops for any spyware/malware and as I said, have rebuilt them from scratch while ensuring that any media connected was clean. So that has been ruled out.

Hi all,
I know this question has been posted many times. But all the solutions I find don't work for me.

Well, every time I try to use Windows update, I get the error code 80072EE2. This is also the case with my anti-virus software (Norton 360). I go to update Norton 360 but it stays at 0% and minutes later, it says update failed. When I went to activate my Windows 7 Home Premium, same error code appears. I used the phone option to activate it.

Solutions I have tried without success:

1. Uninstalled Ethernet device driver in Device Manager, rebooted computer, computer automatically installed driver. Retried Windows Update. Same error code.
2. Disabled firewall. Still didn't work.

Help would be much appreciated.

I have been trying to get Windows Update to work for the past few days, with no luck. It seems to have started to go wrong after a series of updates were installed on 21st May.

I am attaching part of the WindowsUpdate.log file, which includes the last successful update and the first unsuccessful attempt.

I have tried absolutely everything that has been suggested on the net. MrFixit, System Update Readiness tool, deleting the SoftwareDistribution files, winsock reset, clearing DNS cache, virus scan, disk check, SFC scan, and really everything I could find. I also tried uninstalling the Windows (but not Office) updates which were installed on 15th May. Loads and loads of reboots. Nothing seems to work! I now note that another Windows 7 on the same internal network, which is only rarely connected to the external internet, seems to have suffered a similar fate, but a Windows 8 machine is quite fine.

A:Windows update Failure error 80072EE2

This error code is almost always due to connections problems rather than software problems.
One thing that is critical is your regional/location/date/time settings - if they are off-whack then WU will refuse connection.

Please check that, then run the following two test routines and post the results.

1) Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

2) Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Help please!!

I have spent the last two days looking through various support sites including microsoft and have tried all sorts but to no avail.

My Dell laptop is running Vista, McAfee and connects to internet via wireless to Netgear wireless router. Until two days ago Windows update and McAfee update worked fine. I then started getting the 80072ee2 error, neither Windows nor McAfee wil update and I cannot access most of the MS websites from the Dell.

I checked the entries in the trusted sites to ensure the MS sites were there. They were not so I added them. Tried again - No joy.

Then stopped the Update service, deleted the content of the Software Distribution folder and re started the Update service. Tried again, this time i got the 80072EFE error.

I have checked the network connection properties and it is set to obtain IP and DNS settings automatically.

I am really stuck now so any help would be very gratefully received.

I apologize if this is the wrong area.

I've been having quite a bit of trouble with this--and even when I had XP. Whenever I try to manually check for updates, it simply doesn't work, and gives me the error code. I've tried numerous things to remedy it, such as going directly from my modem to the PC, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling the ethernet driver.

Any help?

Hi guys whenever i try checking for updates i receive the error code 80072ee2. Initially i had been receiving the update kb2976978 and another one, but everytime i tried installing them i received the same above error. I tried dism, the windows fixit tool, restarting windows update services and clearing the software distribution folder until finally i came to this situation:

where i had 'never' checked for updates. So i click check for updates on the left hand side and i receive this error:

I was thinking that since the error 80072ee2 referenced a timeout in connection, and i had full internet connection, that maybe the microsoft servers were overloaded. However other computers on my network have succesfully made the transition to windows 10 without their updates failing. I was hoping someone could help me out. Thanks a bunch.

Hi guys,

I did a factory restore on my desktop computer a few weeks back and have had trouble with windows updates ever since. It did install some updates successfully (see screenshot in Post 2 below) when I first reset the computer - though the Windows Update screen says that updates have never been installed, and were never last checked for. I was able to manually install Service Pack 1.

I have tried to follow the posting instructions, here's what I got -

SURT - I had to manually install and run it (I have slow satellite internet). It ran for awhile, then asked if I wanted to download Hotfix. I said yes and it did that successfully but then nothing else happened. So I ran SURT again and ignored the Hotfix window and SURT ran the same searching screen for about four hours and I ended up cancelling it.

SFC Scan - I did that and it said 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.'
But - I also did a Microsoft troubleshooting thing that found two errors and I've included a screenshot of that along with the error codes.

I've included the CBS file.

Thank you in anticipation.

A:cannot update, error 80072EFE , 80072EE2

Sorry, meant to include this update history too (even though it says it successfully installed Service Pack 1, that was never showing in my computer properties, but I managed to install it manually).

I have purchased a new Windows 8 laptop and I'm looking to get the latest Windows updates in order to be able to upgrade to Windows 8.1. Every time I attempt to access windows update, either via the computer information or the start menu, it freezes. After a while it will eventually get to the actual update screen where I can choose to check for updates. Upon pressing this it freezes again, and will eventually resume checking. After a while I get the error code 80072EE2. I have tried using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool and it does notify me that there are problems and corrupted files, but says it hasn't fixed them! Screenshot below:

If the Troubleshooter can't fix this, what should I do to be able to update? I have previously performed a system refresh to attempt to fix this but it has not worked.

Many thanks!

A:Windows 8 Update not working (80072EE2)

according to the Microsoft website that error results from two things, either there server is busy or you need to add updater exception to your firewall. I am not sure why the exception wouldn't be there by default but I guess people have been having problems with the firewall blocking the update.

We have recently bought a new Dell Optiplex 990 (Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1) in our offices and I need to run some updates on it, however, I keep getting error codes and the phrase 'Windows Update encountered an unknown error'.  First error
code was 80072EE2, I tried a few suggestions from other users on here and various other sites yesterday to no avail.

I have since received the error codes 8024400A and 80072EFE.

I'm not a genius with computers, so any help, written as simply as possible would be hugely appreciated!

Many thanks.
(We have no extra/3rd party antivirus software running on this computer, just the windows firewall)

A:Unable to install Windows Update - 80072EE2,8024400A and 80072EFE

Hi,

I suggest you try the following:

1. Use the fixit in

Windows Update error 8024400a, 8024400d, or 8024400e and
Windows Update error 80072efe or 80072f76.
2. Scan the system for virus.
3. Temporarily disable the firewall, anti-virus program, and bypass the router(if you use) to test the update.

Hope this helps

I successfully upgraded my netbook from XP to Win 7 so then thought why not upgrade a spare desktop, a Dell Inspiron 530 from Vista Home Premium to Win 7 Home Premium. This second upgrade appeared to have worked fine however when I set to updating Win 7 on the Dell I could see things were not hunky dory!

Everything appears great and I even seemed to have Internet Explorer running until I tried to download files.  IE8 keeps waiting and waiting and then a teasing small progress perhaps 1% and then it hangs and then it times out.

I've done all the things suggested by Microsoft to no avail.

Then I turned to bleeping computer to search and try and find a solution.

I can download tools etc using a different computer and put programs on a USB memory stick to run scans etc so I have run minitoolbox and Farbar Service Scanner however not very sure how to proceed to curing my issues.

Could someone please give me some guidance?

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,
Nommy

That's very reminiscent of similar errors in Win7 - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being non-genuine.
Please post an MGADiag report BEFORE doing the below potential fixes.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&DwnldID=17882

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

Hello,

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

My Windows Update has been failing to update for a while now and I can't seem to find the solution. Here's the run-down of what happens step by step:Launch an update scan for Windows Update
It scans for a few seconds then says:

Install new Windows Update software

To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update.

Once I click Install it begins to "Install and Update," but then immediately returns to "Checking for Updates."
The next box I see says:

This happens every time I've attempted to update. After looking up the error code, I found the main Windows site that gave me the following explaination:
If you receive Windows Update error 800F081F, it means that Windows Update or Microsoft Update cannot determine the cryptographic service provider, or a file Windows Update requires (named catalog store) is corrupted.
