Benchmark Scores Lower w/ Faster Processor?

Q: Benchmark Scores Lower w/ Faster Processor?

I put a new processor in a computer here at work yesterday. Previously, the computer had a K6/233, and I replaced it with a K6-2/300.

I was surprised to note that the benchmark scores (I used WinTune for the Benchmark test) for the new, "faster" processor were lower than the "slower" one

CPU Integer................... -2%
CPU Floating Point............ +29%
2D Video...................... +2%
Direct 3D..................... +12%
Open GL....................... -15%
Memory........................ -38%
Cached Disk................... +18%
Uncached Disk................. +1%

So what's going on here? Why would the CPU Integer and memory transfer scores go down with the new processor? Did I missed a configuration in the BIOS, or could this processor just not be suited for the motherboard? Specifications on the motherboard are at: http://www.qdigrp.com/eng/products/tx1bp.htm

Thanks for any insight, as this is rather perplexing to me.

Preferred Solution: Benchmark Scores Lower w/ Faster Processor?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You may need to check the version of the bios to ensure that it supports this chip.

I found this in the FAQ's at that site.

Hey all,
Just built a new comp and I thought this thing would scream but I'm only getting a whimper

AMD FX-62 Dual Core CPU
1.0 GB DDR2 PC3200 (I believe its 3200)
ASUS M2A-VM-HDMI Motherboard
Ultra X-Connect Titanium w/ UV Blue 500Watt ATX PSU
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB Hard Drive (Serial ATA II, 7,200 RPM, 8MB)
Haven't done the video card yet
This thing should move like lightning right?

Something about this thing is mega slow to load programs and such.
I just used CrystalMark to get some Benchmark scores and my CPU ranked a bit lower than an AMD FX-60 (19442 vs. 25188) but my HDD was piss poor with a score of 4738 vs others out there ranking between 2 and 4 MILLION!!
Now my HDD is in a constant churning state, ya know always sounds like its struggling and grinding away when running programs especially ones like adaware or spybot that scan, not super loud but it bugs me. Is this an indication that is a piece of junk?

Is there any other way to determine if its is my HDD that is the weakest link in my new computer besides getting another and popping it in and are there any other good benchmark programs out there that can confirm this for me. Also, why would my CPU be scoring lower than a lower model? Maybe its just that CrystalMark isn't reliable.
Also, I'm running some EMSA Disk Check Program right now to try that out and see what happens

A:Low Benchmark Scores

i think it is either the motherboard or videocard because i know that the visointek 9600 is underclocked at 324 mhz core and 202.5 memory but can it really make that much of a difference because people with the same ram, similiar video card and processor have scored in the 30,000- 40,000 range yet i can barely score 20,000

I recently purchased a Dell Precision 5520 with the following hardware: i7-7820HQ, 32GB RAM, M.2 PCIE 512GB, Quadro M1200. I noticed performance issues with the laptop - simple things like a lag sometimes between when I typed on the keyboard and when things actually appeared on screen. Generally slow performance with simple tools like PgAdmin, etc. Subsequently, I ran benchmark tests (PassMark, Geekbench, and others) and I find that my CPU scores are dismal - about a 1/4 of what they should be. I did a couple of things to isolate the problem: (1) updated the bios and switched off sidestep, (2) complete reformat and reinstall of the latest recovery image from Dell, (3) all windows 10 updates and driver updates through command center, (4) configured power option in Windows to "High Performance" and plugged in the a/c adapter, (5) removed all peripherals - basically back to stock, out-of-the-box factory image except the Intel Sidestep setting in the bios. Again, no improvement - low CPU benchmark scores (Passmark CPU score - 2424). See attached image for details. I'm not sure what else to do? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Im currently trying out some recommendations from the internet like undervolting the CPU and having the power limit at 50W (CPU) and im currently getting 2678 points in cinebench r20, and the cpu is sitting comfortably at 70-72 degrees C at full load. Updated, for my new system. Note that I have only used the default settings for Heaven here, but you can quite clearly see what an improvement I have over my old system. In addition, the effect of having crossfire enabled can be clearly seen in the second image, with a final score approximately twice that where crossfire is disabled.

I was surprised to see here that the Intel Celeron D 330 2.66 GHz processor benchmark scores are lower than the AMD Sempron 3100+ 1.80 GHz processor benchmark scores.

I recently resurrected and upgraded 2 older desktops.

Both have 2 GB DDR PC2700 RAM and have an UDMA/ATA100 7200 rpm hard drive and have the same antivirus program running.

The Intel processor has a 533 MHz FSB and the AMD processor has an 800 MHz FSB.

The desktop with the AMD processor appears to be the faster and more snappier of the two.

Is the higher FSB of the AMD processor the deciding factor, or is it something else?

I recently up-graded my cpu from a Q8200 to a Q9400, before the up-grade my WEI for the CPU was 7.3 but with the new Q9400 im getting 7.1, yes it?s a lower number.

After looking around at other peoples scores It seems that my old Q8200 was a fast one and my new Q9400 is a slow one.

Would anyone like to comment.

Why would a chip running 300mhz faster and with more cache give a lower WEI reading?

A:Faster CPU = Lower WEI

It could very well be the processor itself. Try as they might to be consistent, there is always going to be variance in processors of the same model, even if we were to use two processors from the same production run. It's plausible that you indeed had a Q8200 that could handle more calculations per second than your current Q9400. Regardless, I wouldn't read too much into the WEI scores, as they are not a reliable indicator of real world performance.

because of crashing problems and no real information to explain why i decided to get sisoft sandra.

when i do a benchmark on processor arithmetic it always freezes up my computer as in the mouse wont move and cant do nothing. this is the same thing that happens with other programs but it is more intermittent there.

i ran the test several times with the same freezing happening all the time. i run other tests and none of them do this but some tests just seem to go on forever as if they are stuck in a loop. maybe its the program i dont know.

before the freeze my 1st core goes to 100% then seconds later freeze and i have to reset the computer.

i ran prime95 before i got ssisoft sandra and it ran no problems which seemed to me it wasnt doing a thorough enough test. the computer isnt overheating, i have auto fan control and when it gets to ovet 50c the fan goes on max and i can tell by the sound and it only did that on prime95

A:sisoft sandra 2010 processor arithmetic benchmark

Normally, Sandra's benchmarks DO freeze the mouse and keyboard for a while. The progress meter will eventually update to a higher percentage, and then it will freeze again. It does this until it's finished the test.

The reason for this is that the results are more accurate if the CPU isn't wasting cycles on extra stuff like the mouse, etc. Sandra minimizes the CPU time of everything it can, so that it can concentrate on the test.

My quad core can take up to 5 minutes to run some of the tests, esp. the memory ones. How long is your machine locking up on you?

Hello everyone,

My computers' spec:

Intel E8400 @ 3.0GHz
Asus P5KPL/EPU
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit
WEI Processor Score: 5.5
.... (rest are not that important, i think)

2nd com:
Intel E4600 @ 2.4GHz
Gigabyte 945GCM-S2L
OS: Used to run Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit
WEI Processor Score: 5.8
....

All motherboard bios and intel chipset drivers are updated.

I know that WEI are not that accurate but I just want a general score of my system and I have seen other people's screenshot (with the E8400 processor) with a 6.5 processor score.

Does different motherboard affects the score?

GHz are not everything in a processor. There are other factors such as Cache, cooling and even Power Supply which can make a WEI score lower. Your motherboard may be the cause, however WEI is just a test. Your CPU will probably perform the same as your friends' CPU if they're both the same.

Are areas other than RAM affected (score wise on the WEI assessment) by the amount of RAM you have?

I had an A42JV notebook with 4gb, but it had some issues and I traded it in for K42JV which only has 2 GB. The processor and GPU are the same, yet now my Windows experience score for Aero Performance is 3.9 (Intel HD). It was 4.2 with the other notebook.

Could the difference possible be due to having 2GB instead of 4GB now...Or could it possibly be due to a different motherboard or a different Intel HD?

Also I see people with the same processor scoring 6.7 (i5 450) for the processor score, yet I'm scoring 6.2... What could account for the difference? Motherboard?

Thanks much for any answers...

A:Windows 7 experience scores...Does RAM affect other scores?

You will see a performance boost by having more memory. Having less memory will affect your Aero performance.
Processors will vary slightly in speed. Also, the processor is going through your mobo.

speed expected: 3 GHz reported:1.43 GHz
System Bus 800MHz reported: 382 MHz

i am confused, shows up in bios as 3 GHz and in Windows shows as 3GHz

any ideas ?

Which of the following would be best?

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz, 800Mhz, 2MB Cache with 3GB 667Mhz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz, 1333Mhz, 4MB Cache with 2GB 667Mhz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM

I don't play games, I mainly use applications like Excel, Word,Quickbooks, ITunes, Powerpoint, Publisher. We do do quite a bit with photo's from the digital camera.

Do you think the extra RAM is better or the better processor?

Thanks

A:Which is best - More RAM or a faster processor?

To be honest if that's all your doing with it then it does not really matter as both machine can and will able to cope with doing what you want.

Memory vs Processor - This really not a thing you can ask as you need both to be as good as you can get to make sure better.

my curiosity is that I notice ( Pentium 4 - 3.2ghz ) being faster than some entry level dual cores

Thank you all in advance for your responses.

A:Which is a faster processor?

2 Cores means thier are to seperate cores doing your programs or splitting a single program between the two. 4 Cores is the same thing but with 4 cores, although the extra 1 core is usefull over the 2 cores, the 4th core is rarely used. A jump from 1 to 2 cores is much larger then 2 to 4. For gaming I believe dual cores are better, i did some research showing on average, the benchmarks of a dual core and its quad equivilent, a dual core beat it slightly. If your planning on doing intense video editing or anything of that nature, its better to have 4 cores to hand the deal, but for gaming dual cores will run better then 4. Because the 4 cores need to be feed something to do, they dont stay dorment, and were it only takes 2 cores to do it effectively the 4 cores will still want to split the work up. Lets says their are 2 men that need to carry two backpacks, with 2 people, each one will carry one backpack, but with 4 people, thier gonna try to tear the backpacks in half, trying to each get a piece to carry.

One of my Intel Core 2 Quad processor cores has a temperature consistently lower than the other 3 cores, WHY?

Hello. I have a question. I need to know the reason why one of my cores (Core 2) is running about 3-4 degrees below the temperatures of the other 3 cores on my Intel Core 2 Quad processor. Restarting and rebooting seems not to help, it is always the same core with the lower temperature. Is there something wrong with that particular core or something overly defective with the processor itself??? It rarely ever fluctuates and stays at 33 degrees Celsius. The other core temperatures are around 36-37 degrees at rest/idle and do frequently go up when an action is performed on the computer.

Please let me know what is going on with this consistent core 2 temperature and please provide me with a reason why this is happening. Is it something that is beginning to go with this processor? Is there anything that can be done about it to get all four (4) core temperatures in balance.

Thank you!

A:One of my Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Cores Has A Temperature Lower Than The Others?

Likely an insignificant problem. Something as simple as air flow within the case, or a variation of fan speed. I cannot see that it is anything to worry about, unless the higher temperature one is consistently over 64C.
I suppose you could interchange the two cores and see what changes result.

Is that a Q6xxx series or a Q9xxx series quad core?

The idle temps aren't particularly accurate as some of the sensors can become 'stuck'. As long as the temps move (and aren't too high) when under load, it's all okay.

On quads, it's not uncommon for an uneven temp to be reported across all the cores.

On my chip, my 2nd core always reported lower than the others and over time my 1,3 and 4th core sensors stopped moving at idle temps. Stuck sensors are more common with the Q9xx series.

This computer is a refurb bought through Amazon.  It is so slow, I cannot video chat through Facebook, nor watch many videos.  Streaming is fine, once it gets started.  It takes a full 30 sec. to a minute to load a site, then the same to work through "pages" on the same site.  It has a 1.4 gHz processor and a radeon r2 graphics coprocessor.  It is a 450 GB system that has 418 GB free.  What is the fastest processor and coprocessor I can install, and can I just swap them out? Many of the games played on Pogo stop running due to the slow speed. The games from BigFishGames.com run very jerky and eventually grind to a halt. This make dial-up look fast! Thank you!

Hi, Sorry, its specs says:    The motherboard supports the AMD Kabini E1-6015 APU only. The processor is not upgradable.    Source: http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04705212 It already has full RAM (max). I would not spend any more money to upgrade this machine. Regards.

you could up the ram go to either crucial or kingstons site and run the on line tool it will give you what you have installed and what you can upgrade to other than that you would be into over clocking which is not the best thing for a cpu

Its clearly better.
But I was wandering if I could upgrade the CPU to a faster one? I look forward to your recommendations.

I have an HP Compaq 6910p with BIOS F.19 and a T7300 processor.  Looking at possible upgrades I have three questions: 1) Is F.19 the last BIOS level for these?  If not what is the latest BIOS level and where can I find it? 2) I see Core 2 Extreme X9000 support was added in F.13 - is that the fastest possible processor? 3) Can you confirm the maximum memory for these is 8GB (not 4GB as stated in the spec.)? ThanksDave

A:6910p latest BIOS version and faster supported processor

Right now HP is reworking its support websites to the service manual is not accessible. I was able to access the driver page and can confirm F.19 was the last issued BIOS. F.13 just says added support for additional Intel processors; I cannot find a list of which. Debatable whether you are better off with something like a T9x00 with higher clock speed or the Quad Core. I would guess that if it takes a Quad Core processor it can also run 8 gigs of DDR2, but 8 gigs of DDR2 costs about $100 and not sure that is a justified investment in a laptop that still has posted Windows 2000 drivers it is so old.  These classic Windows Xp era HP/Compaq business notebooks are great, rugged machines and I can understand wanting to keep it going, however.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

For video editing, this system is by far underpowered -- you really need a Precision mobile workstation or an Alienware system for that.  If you can't stretch that far, look for an XPS system with hybrid (intel-nvidia or Intel-AMD) video.
Neither the CPU nor the GPU in the Vostro will handle what you want it to do.

Your site helped me on another issue I had in the past.  Oh I tried system restore and it didnt help the screen..I think the only system restore point was after all the above.

Have a Toshiba A665-S6095 laptop running 64-bit Win 7. It has a paltry Windows Experience Index of 4.6, which is the Graphics score (all the others average 5.6). I assume the integrated video shares memory with the computer's RAM, which is only 2 x 2GB (total of 4GB) DDR3-532 CL=7. For about $40 I can replace the DIMMs with 2 x 4GB (total of 8GB) DDR3-1333 CL=9.

Is that likely to make the computer perceptibly faster or a waste of $$?

I have 2x2GB of DDR3 1600mhz memory installed on my machine.

My WEI score is only 5.9. Can anyone help me understand why this is low?

You can see my system specs below.

A:WEI Scores

I am wondering if it's running at 1600 Mhz. Have you set it in your BIOS? That may be an issue. Some boards you will have to set the speed in the BIOS.

You can check CPUz memory tab to see if you're running at 1600.

Dual channel will be 800(X2=1600) and triple channel will be 533 (533X3=1600)

If it's running at 1600, it's probably just the WEI...I would not put too much faith into it.

I can only do 1GB per slot.

I see the 6000+ at 5.9, thats not a huge increase for me to shell out for new ram, mobo and CPU and video card.
