I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi @Bags2, Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand from your posts that you are having an issue with your HP ENVY TouchSmart m7 Notebook and the Fingerprint reader not working correctly. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues. Please get back to me how this goes. If you wish to say Thanks for my efforts to help, click the Thumbs up to give me a Kudos. Thanks.

Hi all, I'm not specifically a technical expert, but this morning when I booted up my windows 7 professional laptop something was completely missing. Usually to login I use the finger swipe recognition and in white writing this usually appears as " swipe finger to login " above the admin login button, however this seems to be missing and swiping my finger on the sensor does not do a thing. I should also mention when first set up windows this was stupidly my only way of getting into my computer and now am stuck and confused. Thank you if you may offer any help.

Hi! Love my Yoga.  But wishing the TouchPad would do the Windows Three Finger Swipe Up to show Task View, just like the touch screen / swipe from left does. The Synaptics Settings screen shows it on. (see attached screen shot)  I've turned it off and back on - but I can't get it to work. I see entries here and on the web about other swipe issues and the fix being deleting registry keys / uninstalling / reinstalling the driver - but none of them seem definitive.  Any definitive advice out there? Thanks!

As seen in this video:

Is it possible to emulate that "sliding" feature where you can switch to different windows so easily? I can't believe it's not a built in feature it would be so much easier to navigate through windows than having to point and click on them!

A:Is it possible to get that Mac three finger swipe feature?

The closest you can get in standard windows shell would be probably using Synaptics driver for touchpad and setting 3 finger gesture to Win+Tab (or two times it to switch between windows) or Ctrl+Tab (to switch between tabs).

Of course, there would be no "sliding" animation itself, only standard Win+tab animation.

Has anybody been able to change settings for 3 finger swipe in Windows 10?Switching apps using 3 finger gestures is absolutely useless, and I would like to be able to use the same gestures to go back and forth.  When I installed Synaptics driver for other products, version 18.x and for Windows 8.1, I would get the back and forth option back. The only problem is that the trackpad buttons do not work. Everything else worked fine except for that. I tried a number of 18.x versions, and all of them had the same issue. Synaptics driver for P70 Windows 8.1, ver. 19.x, doesn't have back and forth option. This has become vastly annoying, especially when I'm browsing the web using the touchpad as going back would require a rather lengthy travel of my hand. I use Chrome mainly and I have to press two physical buttons, Alt and an arrow key, to go back and forth.  Please, any input will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I have a Dell XPS 13 9333 upgraded to a Win10.
Everything works absolutely fine except gestures on touchpad.
WRONG -> Three finger swipe-up opens cortana, swipe-down opens system params.
Expected opened apps to be shown and minimization of opened windows. It was so for a while but then suddenly stopped working.
Everything checked correctly in DELL touchpad settings.

How can I solve this issue?

I am having a problem with the UPEK software that came with my laptop. It doesnt respond like it is supposed to when i swipe my finger on the sensor if im at the desktop. Normally, it would have a pop-up. But now nothing. Also, if I am in IE8, I would normally swipe my finger, and there would be a pop-up asking if i wanted to save my password, and nothing again. I know my sensor is working because i use it to log in and i use it to sign into the Protector Suite program.
Anyone know why?

Thanks,

I'm using an HP Spectre x360, with Windows 8.1 (factory installed).  I have the most up-to-date Synaptics touchpad drivers, as obtained from the HP website under my computer model number. The problem is when trying to use the Synaptics 3-finger swipe in Internet Explorer 11.  It does not work reliably.  Sometimes I'll have to swipe multiple times before the swipe will register and the browser will navigate backward or forward accordingly.  It seems as if there's some sort of focus problem, like an initial swipe or two creates the proper focus, and then a final swipe finally causes the appropriate navigation.  The behavior will change depending on the website.  For very simple sites, sometimes a single swipe will suffice, but with more complex sites, the problems tends to surface. Can this be fixed with the Synaptics drivers, with a registry edit, or with some other hack?

I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 8.1.

I absolutely love the two finger scroll feature. It's very convenient in web browsers and the start menu. However, it doesn't always work, and I can't find a trend for when it works. It simply works sometimes and not others.

Where can I configure the settings so that I always have two finger scroll?

A:Two finger scrolling doesn't always work

Thru playing around I found that 2 finger scroll won't work if one finger starts off of the edge of the pad. Make sure that both fingers plant on the pad itself when starting a scroll. I operate my pad with my left hand and I had a lot of trouble accidentally hitting the left edge when I first got win 8. I long ago disabled whatever the left edge swipe was. The same might be true for the right edge for right-handers.

Currently 2 finger scroll is reliable for me. I guess it could also be a driver issue with your particular pad.

Hi, Open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP SimplePass and select Uninstall. When this has completed, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, download the version of HP SimplePass on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71729.exe When the download has completed, open your Downloads folder, right click the SimplePass installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. Again, when this has completed, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open windows Control Panel and in the top right, next to View by: select 'Large Icons'.  From the new layout, select the HP SimplePass entry and see if you can set up your fingerprint log-on. Regards, DP-K

Try this:
1) Go into c:\program files\DellTPad\
2) In this dir I have
  a)  DellTouchpad.exe: this is the app called from control panel whose picture you posted.
  b)  DellTPad.exe alternate utility to set touchpad setting. When launching this I have this option (translating into english) "one finger actions/multi-finger actions", and then it allows you to set single finger vertical/horizontal scrolling.

I have a VM with Windows 7 in it, with Windows 7 being the host as well. Upon the VM booting up, I can't login via RDP. It prompts for credentials but tells me wrong password. Once I remote into the host, and then login to the VM, I can then close the RDP session to the host and re-establish a connection to the VM itself, the credentials work then.

I've seen this before, where if the local user hasn't logged at least 1 time since the computer has been turned on or restarted, RDP gives invalid credential errors. After logging into the machine locally, RDP then accepts the credentials.

This is a bug, right?

My system is a Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. I have an Acer desktop with Vista 32bit Home Premium edition with Service Pack 1 loaded on it. My computer was working fine yesterday afternoon (at least it appeared to be), but when I tried to boot my computer up last night, I could not get my desktop to load. Windows seems to boot up, as I can get to the screen with the user names to login. No matter which user I select, however, the screen just goes black with only the cursor showing. I have tried booting from the last good boot point from the F8 menu, but the same problem persists. I have tried booting in safe mode, but the screen shows up all black once again, except for the four 'Safe Mode' texts in the four corners and the text Microsoft (R) Windows (R) (Build 6001: Service Pack 1) at the center top of the screen.

The Repair Your Computer option from the F8 menu at startup is about the only thing I have been able to get open on the computer thus far. Startup repair can't find anything wrong with the computer. When I try to do System Restore, I get the error 0x800700B7, so it can't rollback to my restore points. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and it didn't seem to find any errors, although I couldn't view the whole report when it restarted because the screen, once again, went completely black except for the mouse cursor when it restarted.

I am currently trying to configure the Finger Print login function on an HP ProBook 4730s. Although I have finger prints registered they do not appear to be working at the login screen (e.g.: when CTRL + ALT + DEL is presented on the screen).

Once Windows 7 (x64) loads and a standard keyboard login is performed I am able to access the HP Protect Tools application that allows me to register finger prints. I am therefore confident that appropriate drivers, and software are installed, however I suspect that one or more requisite software packages is not starting prior to logon.

If anybody has any suggestions regarding how to get finger print login working can you please let me know?

Kind Regards,

Davo

Hello Dave mate try opening msconfig and see what is being loaded on start up. I usually untick everything except the Kaspersky and the HP stuff might be listed there though and make sure the fingerprint item is left in or is in.

Sorry but I am on my 8 laptop at the moment so I cannot send a screenshot to show you what I mean. But the msconfig looks the same as my pic except that Start tab is different with what I have here and lists all the features ticked to load on boot up.

Just as a by the by this is good if you want better performance..

I just got a new Lenova Flex 5 and after about a montht the finger print options for logging in disapeared. It never asks for the finger print as an option for it anymore. I have to use a pin to sign in. Also, it doesn't have an option to switch back to the fingre printer. It's like the option is gone computer wide.
