Preferred Solution: Lenovo V110-15AST Linux Support?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All,I'd just like to know if the Lenovo V110-15AST runs well with Linux. I'm planning on buying one but will reconsider is there are too many Linux compatible issues. I have already looked at ubuntu's compatibility page, various Linux resources etc. I read in the manual for the Lenovo V110-15AST that a fast boot system will have issues (something to that effect) but anything majorly wrong with the combo?

Hi I have a lenov o V100 15AST 8GB of ram, 1TB SSD etc. I have looked up in the manual and the maximum RAM this model can take is 12GB. I can the Crucial ram checker foundation chips would best fit, and bought an 8GB crucial chip. I have installed it, but whenever I turn the laptop on, the screen remains blank. The caps lock and power lights show, but nothing on the screen . When I put the original 4GB chip back in, the screen turns on normally. Has anyone else had this and know how to fix it? RegardsRichard

Just sharing my upgrade information on the Lenovo V110-15AST with AMD CPU, in case anyone else decides to use (or already has used) the components. So far it appears to be running well. Upgraded from 4GiB to 12GiB using the following: Crucial CT8G4SFD824A 8 GB (DDR4, 2400 MT/s, PC4-19200, DRx8, SODIMM, 260-Pin) Memory (this adds 8GiB to the existing internal 4GiB)  Upgraded internal from previous SATA hard drive using the following SSD drive: Crucial MX500 CT1000MX500SSD1(Z) 1 TB Internal SSD (3D NAND, SATA, 2.5 Inch) Windows now boots within 20 seconds! May perform some memory and hard drive tests to be sure. I've seen the internal RAM clocks at 2133, but I think that the additional RAM clocks at 2400 but clocks down to the speed of the internal memory.

Hi, I have a ideapad v110-15ast with AMD A9-9410 and radeon R5 graphics and I've been thinking about an upgrade for quite some time as it is sluggish with any 3D game past the xbox 360 so after doing some research into performance and budget, i found that the AMD Ryzen 5 3400G Processor with Radeon RX Vega 11 Graphics and the AMD Ryzen 3 3200G Processor with Radeon? Vega 8 Graphics are both exellent options for me to use so now what I need to know is if its even possible to upgrade to either of these sorry if I made any mistakes in spelling or info ANY suggestions/sidegrades/advide is appreciated thanks in advance

A:Lenova V110-15AST - Problem with optical drive

Hi Lome,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If the optical drive is not being seen within Windows then shutdown the machine and try accessing the BIOS.
Once off, use the novo button to turn on and choose BIOS setting.

This should show the CDDVD drive, if not then call technical support for inwarranty repair.
Removing the drive and reseating back in place (page 34) can help but if you have a covered warranty then best to avail of the intended service for your machine.

Hope this helps answer your query.
Update us how it goes for you.

Regards

Machine : Lenovo V110-15AST (80td000dfr) trying to restore Windows 10 Home - ENG.
Successfully created a USB Recovery from Lenovo website (downloaded in excess of 11GiB for the files).
Performing a Product Recovery, using a brand new 16GB SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 flash stick. After about 20% of the way into recovery a message pops up "Error when recovering. Click [Yes] to try again..."
This happens roughly every 30 seconds, so I click "Yes" all the way until it gets near the end and it then gets stuck! The restore fails to complete. (See attached picture).
This happens regardless of which USB port I use (USB 2.0 or 3.0). Please is there a way to fix this or get the restore to complete??

Hello Lenovo Support! Can the linux users of this laptop get some love, please? In my case I only need the ability to update my BIOS from liveusb, an .ISO would be perfectly fine. I don't mind all the broken ACPI tables, BIOS updates, deleting all my efivars and some entries, I'll fix them myself, but I do mind, having to dualboot Windows, so just an ISO would be great. Lastly and most importantly can we also get the option to enable VT-d in the BIOS? Both MB and CPU supports it. I'm in extremely high doubt, anything would come out of this post, just hope atleast some of the staff read this to remind them 'Windows' isn't the only OS out there Thanks!

Hello,I am thinking about buying a notebook and the new IdeaPad 530s (15") series looks promising. But since I need to be able to use linux i was wondering if there is proper driver support (touchpad, sound, fingerprint-scanner, ...) at this point. If not, when can we expect it? Best regards!

I've noticed a strange phenomenon with my Lenovo V110-15IKB after I put in another 4 GB into the only slot available:Though the BIOS recognizes the full 8GB, macOS 10.12 (and also 10.13/High Sierra) does not and does not start at all. But when I start Linux or Windows both seem to accept both.To have startup macOS I have to manually register the RAM in Clovers Config.plist. Another strange effect is with Memtest86:The utility only sees the soldered 4GB but not the new module, though it obviously recognizes the full 8192MB.What's wrong?

Relying on the information on the Lenovo website listing "Ubuntu" and "Redhat certified" under "Operating Systems", I chose a Lenovo P52. The device arrived, and I opened BIOS settings to prepare for the Linux installation I had planned. After changing some settings, I chose "change settings and reboot", and the device entered a nonresponsive state: Screen black with the exception of a single white pixel in the left upper edge of the screen. After about 30 minutes, I tried a re-boot; again, the screen stayed black. No Lenovo logo appeared, clicking F1 (or any other function key) did not lead into the BIOS settings. Customer support told me this was a technical defect, and I sent the device back to the dealer. A week later, the new Lenovo P52 arrived.  This time, trying to set up the BIOS for Linux installation, I always changed but a single setting and chose the "Save and Reboot" option. Things went fine until I chose to "Enable" the "BIOS support for Thunderbolt", a setting suggested by the BIOS help appearing on the right quarter of the BIOS setttings screen for installation of Windows 10 before a certain patch level and for installation of Linux. An Info Box popped op, saying the resetting with take "up to 15 seconds" with this option enabled.  The "Save and Reboot" led to a bricked device, again: Black screen, nothing happened for 45 minutes. A reboot again failed to have the Lenovo logo appear, no reaction on keys F1 to F12, no way to enter BIOS setup, let... Read more

Hi.I am looking for a caddy to replace the DVD drive of my V110. Are there any recommendations or things to watch out?I'd like to replace it with a SSD so that I can install OSX on the SSD and Win10 or Linux on the HDD. Once I bought such a caddy for my old Lenovo G560 but it froze right with BIOS startup.

A:Which caddy (HDD/SSD/DVD) for Lenovo V110-15IKB

I saw a smilar problem in Lenovo Z510. In order to solve the problem, caddy was removed and BIOS was restored to factory settings. After these changes, caddy with HDD could be installed again. AFAIK, there's no official caddy for your laptop. In Poland we have caddys from Zeta, which are quite good. I can't say what caddys are available in your country.

In all modern laptops the CPU and GPU are soldered to the motherboard. It's called BGA socket. And to upgrade them you have to replace the whole motherboard with new CPU and GPU soldered to it.
