I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Satellite M300 - Cannot roll back WXP to selected restore point

In my opinion you have no other options now.
Something seems to be wrong with the restore points created in the past?
Looks like you will need to fix the USB printer issue in other way.

Firstly I would recommend to clean the system using CCLeaner or other freeware software but CCleaner is one of the best and for free.
Secondly I recommend uninstalling the installed printer software.
You could repeat the cleaning using CCleaner to remove all trace of printer software.
Reboot several times.
Then you could install the printer software again? you could also check different USB ports if one should not work?

Win8.1 on this older machine? Not bad.

Before we start discussion can you please offer some basic info?
Is ODD listed in BIOS settings and device manager?

Enter BIOS, check this, set it to default settings and start Windows again.

XP System Restore's are never a good permanent solution. Ideally, used a triage to recover files then reinstall afterwards. The problem is the various registry changes, software changes, and settings that are removed and hacked away in the restore process. XP System restore may adversely affect your computing experience in the mid and long term.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/systemrestore.mspx
Microsoft has information about XP system restore.

However, in theory if you have a restore point set, you might be able to restore back to. I dont recommend it though.

A:Satellite M300 screen stay white on after start

Hi

I can tell you how to check what?s going wrong here?
You need an external monitor and need to connect the unit to this monitor.

If you will not be able to see something on the 2nd screen, then I would assume that your graphic card chip is not OK.
If something would be visible on the 2nd monitor, then a internal display problem might be the reason for your issue

hi all,

i know this error msg question is very old but i cant seem to solve the problem.
i cant burn CD-Rs in itunes, it comes up with *errors 2131* which is apparently a very well known error number.

I downloaded RegCure to try and fix it but because its a work laptop i can edit the registry because i dont have admin rights.
I can burn to CD-RWs using iTunes but they dont work in my car CD player.

i understand that its a firmware issue and nothing to do with itunes.

some one please help me

Cheers,

Hi!

You are right that is a firmware problem. In the Toshiba knowledge base I have found this document about the error 2131:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB84026P0000R01.htm

I think the Satellite M300 is not a European model, it?s a American model. So search on the Toshiba US website for a firmware update:

Bear with me here while I explain this....it seems like a simple enough problem, but I'm plagued by stupid problems when it comes to computers and it's driving me slowly insane...

The problem: Windows refuses to boot, even in safe mode.

Symptoms: System POSTs fine then hangs when windows kicks in. I've tried all the options when the 'windows failed to load properly' comes up, but they all hang. When I tried it in safe mode a list of drivers appears to be loading but then it gets to /mup.sys and it hangs there.

Recent changes to system: Yes and one is undoubtily the culprit, as this install of windows has been running flawlessly for over 2 years. Today I made two changes to the system....and in all my wisdom I made them both at the same time, although I'm pretty sure I know what screwed it up. I flashed the BIOS to the latest revision, upgraded the processor to a Athlon socket 939 x2 +4200 (from a single core +3200 I think) AND installed a small external SATA port (I think this screwed stuff up).

The BIOS upgrade went smoothly and took place a few hours and reboots before the processor change in eSATA bracket install, so I don't think it's to blame.

The processor install also went off without a hitch and the computer not only recognized it correctly, but the first boot was fine and went to windows. During this first boot I got the 'installing new hardware' little picture in the lower right hand part of the taskbar, but was... Read more

I just recently (about a month ago) started using a desktop that used to be my daughters computer. it has  Windows Vista Home Premium 2007 with service pack 2 installed. I started using this computer for the 64 bit capabilities. I was using XP that had 32 bit. I am slowly adjusting to the Vista, but there are a few issues that need to be addressed. I looked at previous posts and have tried everything I know to do. The problems continue. There are a few, but I will deal with them one at a time.

The first and biggest problem? is that I am unable to back-up the computer, or create a restore point. When I try either one of those procedures, I get the same error messages: A shadow copy could not be created for the following reason Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFF) or The restore point could not be created for the following reason Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF)

I will wait for someone to contact me and do as they advise. Thanks in advance Tom Dodd in central Illinois

Hello,
1.Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
2.Right-click Command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
3.If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
At the prompt type:  Fsutil dirty
What is the output? If it is "Volume C: is dirty" then you need to check the drive for errors. If it is not dirty then I am not sure what would be causing the issue.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M300 PSMDCA-01800C and there are a few problems with it.

Firstly, when you start up the computer it takes a long time to boot up and also to activate Outlook.
I am running Windows 7Home Premium.
I was told by Arrow Computers where I bought the computer that it can take up to three hours to go through each process at start up???

Is this normal as all I wanted was a simple easy quick laptop but it seems I am bogged down again.

Also, when I return to use the computer even after a short time the mouse doesn't bring it on again and by pushing the start button up comes a blank screen. Alt+Ctrl+Del and eventually it activates Windows again then after putting in my password and I have to wait for everything to be loaded again which takes so much time. Any ideas??

Also I frequently get the message when the computer is starting up "error has occurred in Toshiba PC Health Monitor. It will exit the application. Main.frm.cpp (184)" . Any ideas?

Quite often when I am scrolling with the mouse the screen will go black and flash and a message about "the Display Driver NVIDIA............ failed to respon....." and it will correct itself after awhile. Frustrating!!
Quite often when scrolling on websites the page I am on will freeze??

I am using MS Office 2010 and there is a problem trying to save Word documents and a message comes up with "a file permission error".

Any thoughts? Thanks, Shirl51

What a nonsense!
The system should boot up quickly? my notebook needs 30 sec to boot up.
In my opinion the system is screwed up

In your case I would recommend reinstalling the system.
Did you create the recovery disk?
If not, do that? I think the detailed instruction should be placed in the user manual.

After the recovery disk was created, recover the system BUT backup the data before doing this since the recover disk would format the HDD and you would lose the data!

For some reason the task is started as it should but it never completes and I have to manually terminate it. I have included in the attached ZIP file, 5 screen shots of the tabs of the task, 4 screen shots of the history tab starting and running and then 4 screen shots of the history tab when I terminated it an hour and 25 minutes later. I don't think a restore point takes over 85 minutes to complete so I wonder what I have set incorrectly??? Hi there,
I have a small net-top running Win7, which is primarily used as a WMC DVR/TV system in my living room. As is well known, WMC is not part of W10, and isn't coming back. I'd like to upgrade to W10 on this machine to try out some other options that are out there. However, some of these options are in beta, and I don't want to be stuck with W10 and no WMC on this machine through the whole beta cycle, if they aren't working well enough to please "other family members." In that case I'd like to go back to using W7+WMC. But, I'd like to eventually go to W10 on this machine, as I prefer W10 to W7, but only after a good replacement for WMC is found for me.

I don't really want to do a dual boot solution, although if that's the best way I will consider it.

So... I'd like to know if it is possible to take the upgrade to W10 on this machine, use W10 for a couple weeks or months, then go back to W7 if I want, and be able to re-install W10 again (without having to then buy a license for W10) once a long term / permanent W10 DVR solution for me is available?

I'm thinking that if I take the upgrade, then create a clean install disc or usb stick for W10, I should be able to then go back and forth between W7 as much as I like, right? Or does MS limit this kind of thing somehow?

As always, thanks for any information, tips, advice, etc.

A:Upgrade to W10, roll back to W7, then back to W10 - possible?

Hi, once Win 10 has been activated on a PC, you can reinstall it as many times as you like. Even changing the HDD shouldn't affect that.

Do check your netbook is Win 10 compatible.

You wouldn't need to roll back the OS and later reinstall Win 10 - that would be horribly time consuming and could be tricky if you have problems getting Win 10 up first time.

Idea 1: you could even simply swap the HDD in your netbook if it's accessible- have your win 7 build on one drive, Win 10, once you've upgraded, on another HDD.

Idea 2: Or use disk imaging to put either your Win 7 or your Win 10 build on your one HDD in your netbook.
If you want to change from Win 7 to Win 10 with all programs and drivers quickly without dual booting you can use disk imaging and create an image of each, starting with your present Win 7.

E.g.
1. Create a disk image of your Win 7 disk/partition before upgrading to Win 10 (a very good and wise precaution as it's possible to end up with an unbootable system - I did 1st time 'cos of one program installed).

2. Upgrade to Win 10, make sure it works reasonably

3. Create a new base disk image of your Win 10 disk/partition

4. Complete any trials/configuration/tests/updates for your win 10 build

5. Update your Win 10 disk image

Now you can restore your disk image for Win 10 or Win 7 at will, and with SSD and USB3, that's reasonably quick - say < 15 mins.

Disk imaging:

Hi Boceefus,

If you had xp and you reformatted your hard drive and installed 7 in it's place then no, you can't get your xp back like it was unless you had a complete backup of your xp made before you installed 7 over it. You could reformat again and install your xp back over your 7 install. Or if you had the xp installation disk you could install it over your 7 but it would be brand new of course.

Hello All, I hope you can advise. I have decided I would prefer to put up with the problems I was having with Win 7's ever recurring Critical Updates than the difficulties I am experiencing with Win 8.
I bought Win 8 Pro, did a system backup, and upgraded using the 64 bit version (CPU is an i7). First I got - almost immediately - a message that "kdbsync.exe has stopped working ..." However, even after it closes, it does not affect the running of Win 8 that I can detect. Worse is the problem that when I start IE, it also reports a problem and asks to be shut down. This happens at various, but short, time intervals after starting, but always happens. Firefox, though - how embarrasing - runs like a charm (sorry).
I have reinstalled Win 8 from my purchased disk three times now, and no different outcome.

So, is there a fix for IE? If not at this stage, or my problem is unique, please advise how I can roll back to Win 7 until Win 8 is a little more mature and Service Packs have been issued.

The backup I did was on to another HDD in my computer. The Operating system is on a Raid set-up (1Tb) as Drive C:

Hope someone can help.

I got a new computer with Windows Media Player 10, which I've had experience with before, and I really don't like it. Playlists aren't as easy to navigate, and you can't sort them or move the tracks as well as you could in WMP 9. I tried to revert back to WMP 9, but without success and I was hoping someone here might be able to help me. WMP 11 is NOT an option; I've tried that, and I find it so unwieldy, cumbersome and user unfriendly, that I seriously wonder how anyone saw fit to release it in the first place. WMP 9 was so much more easier to use and uncomplicated than either 10 or 11.

Is there anything I can do, or am I doomed to be forever irritated by WMP 10?

A:Any way to roll back from WMP 10 to WMP 9?

Hi Regular Joe !

Sure you can rollback to WMP9, you only have to use add/remove programs to do that (you may need to tick the show updates button at the top for it to show in the list) :

I stayed with WMP9 and have never had any problem with it. Be sure to do the related updates from windows update and if you have trouble reading some media then uninstall all your current codec packs and use the Klite codec pack instead.

A:XP roll back

Actually, you could ghost the drive over to the new one. You will just have to call Microsoft and explain what you have done and they will give you a new ID to enter into the new computer.
Even if you go the route that you are talking about the chances are that you will still have to call Microsoft as the ID will have already been used on the old computer.

I realise this is too late for you but you should be able to get back to a previous installation if your windows.old folder is still there and nothing has been deleted from it. Usually the windows.old folder only lasts for about 30 days before Windows automatically deletes the contents.

I went on to Acer Support when I couldn't get a bluetooth connection with 8.1, was able to with 8. I am seriously thinking of rolling-back to 8 again for the second time so I can use Bluetooth and not have issues with WMP. I did not know that 8.1 was another operating system I thought it was a "necessary have to have upgrade" from windows 8. Everything I read on 8.1 made me understand that it was an upgrade, well more fool me.,

Microsoft labelled Windows 8.1 as an upgrade for tax purposes, but it is not an upgrade. Windows 8.1, by itself, is a complete operating system that is similar to Windows 8. When you installed it, you lost your Acer drivers and voided your warranty. However, it isn't hopeless.

Go to Computer (formerly "My Computer") and see if your original recovery partition is still there. If it is there, you might be able to restore Windows 8.

But hold on. The manufacturer might come out with drivers later on. Does your laptop have WiFi? Is 8.1 working all right everywhere else? Acer might come out with drivers later on as well. If you can still use WiFi without problems, you might be better off considering it a fair trade--you gave up your Bluetooth for a newer operating system

I just updated the BIOS on my T400 to version 3.18 June 2010.   The computer is very slow to boot either from the hard disk or CD.  But once it has booted it behaves normally.  So I think there is a problem with the BIOS. I tried to flash the BIOS again but from within Windows 7 or from a CD I get a message that the BIOS is up to date and there is no need to update. Is there a way to force the BIOS to reaload?  Or where can I find the previous version which worked fine for me? Thanks --  Juilan

Hi, I updated my video driver (intel) today and now windows will not start up (even in safe mode). I keep getting the bsod "a problem has been detected and...".

Using "last know good configuration" does not work either.

I am able to browse the contents of the hard driving using ubuntu, so I was wondering if there was a way to remove the driver that I installed earlier? Have no idea where to look or how to remove it. Even a VGA driver would at least get me there so I can re-install the old driver.

Basically, I want to disable the Intel video driver so it will default to VGA 640X480. Can this be done?

Toshiba Laptop Vista X64

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry about that. I misdiagnosed the issue. Vista Repair let me do a chkdsk /f on the C drive. Now I am able to logon.

Thanks for the views!

Hi there!
combofix.exe totally damaged the OS of my laptop.
Pre-loaded programes at the systray are reduced to a minimum: no audio access, no WLAN configuration, no bluetooth, no display driver configuration icon and, and, and ...
Totally mixed up Quicklauch - after I changed the configuration to get it visible again. Date putted in front for one day and the configuration for local time reset to english / US style instead of german style.

No icons for the programms that are currently running
No OLE functionality and no VBA access - reported by MS Word; Excel, PP
Avant browser doesn't work anymore.
No copy function in windows explorer.

combofix.de - What a ******** program!

Reason for running it was that Trend Micro Office Scan was not able to delete a trojanian .dll

I need urgent help how to roll back what combofix damaged!

Best regards, Hans

ComboFix creates a RESTORE point for the current operating system state before it does any processing. Roll back to the recent restore point created.

Hello, I am new to this forum and was hoping someone could help me with a computer problem I'm having. My computer's bluetooth wasn't working so I tried to troubleshoot it myself. Long story short I ended up turning on automatic windows update and ran the updates. When my computer restarted not only did the bluetooth still not work, my anti-virus (Trend Micro) also was not allowed to operate, and I was unable to connect to the internet. I tried plugging my computer directly into the modem but apparently my wireless card and such have become turned off. I tried system restore but that isn't working now either (I've used it before so it has been on). I went into the control panel and removed the updates but that had no effect either. I was told a rollback my help but don't know how to do that. Help please! or if you have any other suggestions on what to do, I'm open to that as well. Thanks!

On some foolish whim I (yes, I know) made the mistake of trying to update the BIOS for my Windows 7-bearing Compaq laptop. The update failed and now whenever I simply let it boot it goes to a black screen and makes a loud beeping sound. I can operate Windows normally if I tap escape once and boot from that menu.

Is there any way to roll the bios back to its previous version besides a clean restore?

Some newer bios' have a provision to roll back. You'll need to check with the bios provider or computer manufacturer.

hi all, my friend has just upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 on his dell latitude st tablet z670, but doesn't like it, can he roll it back to windows 7? if so how would he go about doing this,? and if he cant whats his best options, thanks in advance for any help.

A:windows 8 roll back

No, you can't "uninstall" Windows 8 and return to what was in place before hand.
The options, and only he can pick which is best, are:
1: Keep going and try to get used to the system he has now. It isn't that bad, but it does take some getting used to and some people just don't like it.
2: Apply some of the many tweaks (and there are many indeed!) to return some of the look and functionality of the older version. Be very careful while doing this that he doesn't pick up anything malicious.
3: Back up his files and reinstall Windows 7

A:roll back vista to xp pro

I don't understand what you mean exactly.

I would however simply backup all my important data first, then download all the drivers necessary for my computer prior to rolling back the installation. I wouldn't roll back, but I would clean install XP, if possible. I would insert the XP disc and have my key ready, then erase everything (format, quick) and install XP. Install drivers afterwards.

Ok, this seems to be the most knowledgeable forum out there, most places I have tried people don't even know what I'm talking bout.

So first, there is a thing call in-place upgrade, I believe it started in XP. This is where you install over the existing OS with the original CD. It replaces files but keeps your data. Windows 7 claims it dint have it but that's not true.

Here is how to do it.
How to Restore Your Files From the Windows.old Folder After Upgrading

Now my issue:

I did a in place upgrade from win7 ult. to win7 ult. ( same CD ). Setup did indicate all files and setting will remain so I proceeded. Everything went great until the final restart. Windows just said that it failed to upgrade and will now roll back my system. On reboot I saw my old "windows 7 64 boot option" and like an idiot I selected it just to see it it was done. To my surprise it didn't boot to the OS and instead finished the install that is said could not be completed. After that reboot I quick learned it was a new install. And on top of that Windows put a 32 bit windows 7 on there. Well no wonder if failed because you can install a 32 bit of a 64 bit.
So now I want to roll back but the boot loader option is gone. I do see the files windows made to the roll back, I just need to know how to set up the windows 7 boot loader to roll it back.

this is not the windows.old deal... ( again this is an in-place upgrade ) Most people dont even know about this.
here are the folders... Read more

A:fix my roll back boot.

There should be a file called rollback.exe - can't recall which of those folders it may be during in place install.

You will need to have a look ,from winpe you can shift+f10 to get cmd promt, then notepad >file >save to browse.
