Microsoft bug bounty reward

Q: Microsoft bug bounty reward

Hi,
I've heard that Microsoft offers a reward for bugs on Windows 10.
I found an interesting bug, but it doesn't have any security implications on Windows, but it actually causes a commercial Antivirus to not function properly.
My question is, should I apply to the Microsoft bug bounty reward ?
If so, how is the payment processed ? by paypal, check ?
If my windows bug is eligible for a reward, then Microsoft would be supporting a greater cause, which is my antivirus:

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Starting this fall, Apple will pay up to $200,000 for iOS and iCloud bugs

As part of a security presentation given at this year's Black Hat conference, Apple today announced that it would be starting up a bug bounty program in the fall. The program will reward security researchers who uncover vulnerabilities in Apple's products and bring them to the company's attention. Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and many other companies have offered bug bounty programs for some time now, but this is Apple's first.

For now, Apple is intentionally keeping the scope of the program small. It will initially be accepting bug reports from a small group of a few dozen security researchers it has worked with in the past. For now, bounties are only being offered for a small range of iDevice and iCloud bugs. The full list is as follows:
Secure boot firmware components: Up to $200,000 (~150,000)
Extraction of confidential material protected by the Secure Enclave: Up to $100,000.
Execution of arbitrary code with kernel privileges: Up to $50,000.
Access from a sandboxed process to user data outside of that sandbox: Up to $25,000.
Unauthorized access to iCloud account data on Apple servers: Up to $50,000.
As the program continues and Apple works the, um, bugs out of its processes, the company will expand the list of eligible security researchers as well as the list of hardware and software bugs for which bounties are offered.

Researchers who want to claim the bounties will need... Read more

Hi All, I have a Lenovo B590 laptop. I had some issues with my wifi card (long story, and I guess it's not relevant) and decided to update my BIOS. The original version was H1ET75WW (1.18). I made a bootable USB with Rufus and the updating process was started. During the update I got a message like ?System will be restarted?. However, it didn't turn on anymore, the update seems failed. Now when I push the power button, the power led lights up, the fan starts and after a few seconds it restarts again and again endlessly. The first ?boot? is a bit longer 6-8 seconds, the next ones shorter, 3-4 seconds, but the screen is always blank. It's a bit promising that when I plug in an USB and while holding the Fn+R buttons and turning the laptop on, then the first ?boot? is a bit longer, and it tries to read the USB drive - at least it's led light starts blinking. So I hope that there is a solution to repair the BIOS by using the appropriate files ont the USB stick. What I tried so far:Taking out the battery and plugging out tha AC power, and holding the power button for a minute.Taking out the CMOS battery for half an hour and pushed the power button without battery/AC power.WinCrisis (even though I couldn't find a BIOS.wph file, but tried to rename EXE and CAP files).Creating a bootable USB again, with the DOS files on it from the official Lenovo site.Trying to rename/edit autoexec.bat and other files endlessly... I'm fixing this system for someone and they had the typical antivirus 2012 popup rampage BS. I got process explorer to run, found where its process launched from (application data/local) and there were three 3-character executables sitting there, all created on the same date, one of which was repeatedly starting up. So I terminated and deleted those three and the system was acting mostly normal. There were no unable-to-account-for items in any of the various ways to view startup lists but now windows update is broken :(

It's Win7 so I ran the built in Windows Update utility and 1 installed and 14 didn't but they were already downloaded. So I deleted the update cache with a batch file containing:
CD\
CD %Windir%
CD SoftwareDistribution
DEL /F /S /Q Download

and that worked so I re-checked for updates and it was the same ones so I hit download and they did redownload successfully then all failed to install pretty quickly. So I picked one of the Win7 security updates from the list and downloaded the WIn7 64 bit version of that KB# from download.microsoft.com and tried to install it manually via a standalone installer download of it. It went through the steps nicely then just said it failed.
I unhid the administrator account and logged in as that (for the first time on this system by the way) and got the same result trying to run it. So apparently something isn't quite right.

So I ran the SFC utility and it came up with a result that some... Read more

Source: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Vulnerability Disclosure

In early November, a well-known and respected security researcher by the name of Tavis Ormandy alerted us to several security vulnerabilities in the consumer version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Within days, we were able to fix several of the vulnerabilities server-side and are now internally testing a new version (2.2.1) to release in the next 3-4 weeks to patch the additional client-side vulnerabilities. At this time, we are still triaging based on severity.

The research seems to indicate that an attacker could use some of the processes described to insert their own code onto a targeted machine. Based on the findings, we believe that this could only be done by targeting one machine at a time.

However, this is of sufficient enough a concern that we are seeking to implement a fix. Consumers using the Premium version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware should enable self-protection under settings to mitigate all of the reported vulnerabilities.

Unfortunately, vulnerabilities are the harsh reality of software development. In fact, this year alone, our researchers have found and reported several vulnerabilities with other software. A vulnerability disclosure program is one way to accelerate the discovery of these vulnerabilities and empower companies like Malwarebytes to fix them.

I?d like to take this opportunity to launch the Malwarebytes Bug Bounty program which I hope will encourage other security researchers to re... Read more

Hi all,

Having this problem for several months, suspected HDD first but bought new M500 and seems there's something else is responsible for this "fun" I'm having with the PC.

Basically, the nature seems to be the same all the time - when I playing video games (currently it is Kings Bounty, used to be the problem with Max Payne 2012 even during the installation), also used to play Flash games and used to watch video online, it was crushing.
Most common BSOD problem was "page fault in non-paged area" and "IRQL is not less or equal". Sometimes it gives me just a black screen and nothing else at all so I have to go "hard reboot". Sometimes, it hangs with the destroyed, "torn in pieces" video and annoying repetitive sound like ding-ding-ding, so I need to reboot it again, sometimes it goes into BSOD with some errors and exceptions.

I have tried numerous times different Windows 7 versions, both x86 and x64 architecture, and tried XP. Same issues.

I have noticed although, that when the W7 has a clean installation and almost no updates installed, it gives me less headache. Recently I have stopped installing the Catalyst suite for the graphics and thought the problem was just with that but after going through all Windows updates it started again.

I think that there is something with the video, but cannot get to the bottom of it.

Please help as this is becoming now a paranoia for me and I cannot sleep properly.... Read more

Hi all, I have tried to fix this a lot and no one could really help me on this, so now I am happy to reward someone by paying some cash in his/her PayPal account if he/she can help me solve this. I can donate to the site at your choice as well.

The problem:
When my LG W2253TQ-PF monitor is connected to my Gigabyte HD 5750 via DVI cable I see a black border (about an inch thick) around all corners of my screen until I see windows login screen. (There is no such border when windows has loaded because gpu driver has loaded then). I also see the same black border in safe mode and bios settings screen (the resolution is fine). However there is no such border if I connect it with VGA cable. My card natively supports vesa resolution of 1920x1080 and so is the resolution of my LG monitor. I know technically it?s called under-scanning/scaling issue but how do I fix it. Scaling options in ATI CCC only helps after windows has booted. I need something that can fix this under scanning issue before winnows has booted. I can't play with monitor settings on digital input. I have tried different monitors, so it?s not a monitor issue. It?s not a resolution issue, it?s a scaling issue.

Why I am so worried about something like this:
Windows has a black background in initial boot process so the black border is not even really visible, I also don?t spend all my time in bios setting screen or in safe mode but I have a Hackintosh running on my machine as my main system which has a grey backgrou... Read more

Also have you tried setting the 4:3 in wide setting as shown in the user manual supplied with the Monitor?
press the "fun" button and go to "4:3 IN WIDE" and turn to off, then set the "EZ ZOOMING" to zoom in, this should set the image size correctly and fix any aspect or black border issues you may have

I need to have a formula in cell F5 that will reflect if and how much the 4% bonus due, if the quarter and category comply with the ledger box requirements. One formula that I may click and drag that will consider each of the ledger box requirements.
Thank you for your help.

Hi i have Net intelligence installed on my laptop that we got from the Home Access scheme,we cant use the internet at all,it says something about the web filter not being downloaded yet,ive tried logging into the Net intelligence with the username and password but it says login error : account not valid.

So ive tried to un install the software through the remove programmes section, but when i click uninstall it says "cannot access the uninstall file".

I removed this software when we first got the laptop quite easily, but the laptops not used by me anymore as i have my own pc (because they're 100x better ).It seems to have undergone a reformat or some kind of restore thats returned them to the defaults and it wont access the uninstall file basicly, which is what i need to get to so that i can un install it.Ive tried going into the file manually,as well as running as admin.Ive phoned XMA (who i got it from) net intelligence who directed me to Comets and all i get is that i have to pay a charge of 20 for their technician to tell me what to do.

So if anybody here can help me get this laptop to work ill pay you 10

Ok, here is a problem Ive put off long enough. I will paypal the person who can fix it 10$.

Current Specs: HP Pavillion a520n & Windows XP Home Edition fully updated

Problem: About 2 months ago, I got the the malware "Antivirus 2008." I resolved the issue with some anti malware, restoring my computer, and a trial of Norton Anti-Virus. Everything was fine for about a week. Than all of a sudden my Firefox and I.E. stopped working. As a matter of fact my AIM and Kazaa and any internet programs stopped working all together. The funny thing is my modem and router work perfectly. My xbox360 works just fine being hardwired and my girlfriend's lap top connects just as well wirelessly.

I called Comcast (my internet provider) and they verified my connection as working perfectly and said "you need a new network card."

So today I went to Best Buy and purchased the NetGear Gigabit Ethernet PCI Adapter, model #GA311. I installed the cd software than the new card and restarted the computer. It works great, but still not receiving packets. I called NetGear tech support and the outsourced agent, after 35 minutes, said it had to be my modem. Which obviously isn't the case since its been working just fine this entire time for my xbox and the laptop.
Im running around in circles.

WHAT THE heck IS GOING ON. IVE TRIED EVERYTHING.

I have been getting pop-ups lately of the 2015 Reward Opportunities variety. Normally I don't get any pop-ups at all so when I started getting them I was a little worried but figured from time to time one or two ads will get through an ad-blocker. However I googled it and it led me straight to Remove "2015 Rewards Survey" Ads (Virus Removal Guide) leading to me think it was more than just a pop-up. So I'm here for help.

Here's a screenshot of the links I've blocked, which are all the same thing (besides the Hotels combined & Mansion Casino). I'd also guess that it started around 1 - 2 days before the first one was blocked.

OK so I am going to keep this simple and short.

On my computer I get around 15 MB DownLoad, and would only expect like 4 MB DownLoad on my iPod but I end up getting like 4 KB DownLoad on my iPod for anything, why is it so slow. It wasn't always like this it just slowed down one day after my dad changed one of the setting in the router.

Could it be something like the router is on a higher frequency or lower so the iPod can't connect as well as the computer?

I am willing to pay $5 USD via PayPal for whoever can fix my problems, because I am still on 3.1.2 (7D11) due to the fact if I restore to the newest firmware I would not be able to download any apps or anything and it would be generally useless.

Hi,

Happy to pay $50 to someone who can help me through the diagnostics leading to a fix.

My laptop is having a serious issue.
It is running very very slowly. Typing often takes 5+ seconds to register, and im getting 10-20 FPS on games.

Some information:
Asus X750J
Got given it by a friend of the family cause it was "broken"
Wouldn't load finished usually, crashed shortly after loading at best.

Turns out the charger was the wrong charger and wasn't providing enough juice to keep it running.
Bought new chrager
Turns out the "wrong charger" had damaged battery, wouldn't hold a charge AT ALL.
Bought new battery
Formatted computer just in case.
Currently runs, but very very slowly.
Battery still having issues "6% available (plugged in, not charging)"

I know my way around a comp, but not a tech guru. My next move was to update bios, but ima bit daunted by that.

New Computer Software Can Copy Your Handwriting:

Researchers from UCL, University College London have developed a computer software program called, ?My Text in Your Handwriting,? which uses a person?s handwriting sample, accurately replicating it....

Published in ACM Transactions on Graphics and funded by the EPSRC, the machine-learning algorithm is built around glyphs ? which analyses handwriting, reproducing it in the style of the sample.

How ?My Text in Your Handwriting? Works

The researchers asked a user to write on four A4-sized sheets of paper. This was then scanned and interpreted by a computer and human moderator, examining the position of letters and the style words were written in.

The team then asked a group to decide if any envelopes (which were written by the computer software) were created by a computer. In 40 percent of cases, they were incorrect.

The software could help in detecting forged documents, improving identity theft and online security.

With all the positive benefits, some could also use this computer software to forge signatures and handwriting for criminal and personal gain..

Hi people, i have just discovered this forum, and if this goes to plan, i will be a great poster here since i have alot of problems with my pc!
Anyway, heres the story.

I am using my parents PC at the moment, running on Win XP Home SP2, my com[uter is upstairs, running on the same OS. The problem is that the computers have been networked wirelessley and were working fine. But after Norton Internet Security 2006 was installed it messed up.
Downstairs we are using a Netgear DG834G Wireless router, and upstairs i have the Netgear Wg111v2 Wireless network adapter, as i say it was all working fine, but now i cant access anything online.
When i go into network connections in control panel, right click "Wireless Network Connection 2" (Name of my connection) and click repair, it goes through some steps, but then it says "Windows cannot complete this operation: Cannot Renew IP Address" i have no clue why, i have tried everything i know (well, its not that much but i tried) so i came here to get help.
In the corner of my screen (upstairs computer) it has the online sign (the 2 computers) but it has a yellow exclamation mark over it, and says limited or no connectivity.
If anyone has any ideas or steps which i can go through i will be extremely grateful since my internet has been down for about 2 months or so.

Who ever can fix my problem, will be awarded the username and password for my rapidshare premium account (good thing to have) it has 1 months and a bit left... Read more

Hi!

I've been getting a regular BSOD (started off as maybe a 2-3 times/day thing, now my system will only boot about half the time, and I'm lucky if I can make it 10 minutes without a BSOD) ever since I updated my AMD display drivers last weekend. I'm not sure the display drivers have anything to do with it, though.

OS: Windows 7 64-bit, SP1 full retail version (current install is roughly 5 months old, I've had previous installs on my current HD)

I built my computer. My mobo, CPU, HDD, and 2 of my 4 memory sticks are about 2.5 years old. The other 2 sticks are about 2 years old, and my GPU and PSU are 2 months old.

CPU: Intel Q9550 Core 2 Quad @2.83GHz (OC'd to 3.4GHz)
Mobo: Asus P5QL-e
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 7950
PSU: Corsair 650w

I also have 8GB DDR2 SDRAM (takes up all 4 slots)

Also, if it helps, I ran WinDbug and got this:
process name: lsass.exe
probably caused by: ntkrnlmp.exe

Don't know if that'll help, as I have no idea what those are (lsass has something to do with user authentication, allegedly?).

I'm flummoxed. Any help would be most appreciated.

A:BSOD, will give spiritual reward for help

I ran Driver Verifier per the instructions in this thread, but my system did not BSOD upon reboot. Does that mean anything?

If I understand the purpose of running DV correctly, it's supposed to narrow down whether the problem is a 3rd party driver or something within Windows, correct? If my system did not BSOD after setting up DV to check third-party drivers, does that mean that no third-party drivers are the issue? Because if so, then it is relevant that I've had no problems running my computer in safe mode, which would suggest that it's not a Microsoft driver, either.

Or I could be totally wrong. It's been known to occur.

Hi,

I am a member of a few internet shopping reward sites (MyShoppingRewards.com, MutualRewards.com). When I click on the links for some sites I just get a blank page and "Done" appears in the bottom left hand corner. The address of all the affected sites starts
with "http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com". I thought my Anti-virus or firewall might be blocking them but I tried temporarily disabling them and it didn't make any difference (I have Avira AntiVir Guard and Windows Firewall). Examples of the affected sites are Boots, CDWow, HMV so I wouldn't expect there to be anything dodgy about them anyway.

If anyone has any ideas as to what might be causing this then I would really appreciate the advice (with Xmas approaching I'm sure to be doing some online shopping soon!!).

Im very much a newie to all this so excuse my lack precision in explaining myself...

I have a wireless internet connection for my sony vaio-vgnsz44g laptop at home. Laptop running vista business.

Web pages such as 'www.download.com', 'www.microsoft.com' or 'www.afl.com.au' wont load but simply say Waiting for 'http://www.download.com.. these pages run fine off the desktop computer using the same router but xp operating system and a fixed cable to router and not wireless - i dont know what these web sites have in common. But i must stress I do get a swag of other web sites to work on the laptop.. This is what i cant quite understand.. Ive switched off firewalls, spy sweepers .. reinstalled the wireless connections.. uninstalled windows updates tried checking tcp protocols.. but NOTHING. Even connecting a cable from the laptop straight into the router therefore by passing wireless gives me the same problems.

On top Ive noticed that MSN messenger doesnt work and I get the 81000306 error. I tried the cmd, autotuning=disabled line but that doesnt work to fix it either.

AND to throw another spanner in the equation.. when i take the same laptop away from home and insert a netconnect wireless broadband card into the expressport none of the above mentioned problems occur.

$50,000 reward offered hahaha

WOuld appreciate any help.. thanks

I had similar problems with Windows Update website. The reason was, as I finally found, that wireless router had strange security option. When routers firewall was activated, even with all blocking rules disabled, it still closed certain ports automatically. It was hard to understand that if all ports are unchecked, the firewall still blocks some ports. After disableing the firewall, problem vanished.

As you told, you already tried to turn off firewall, but maybe you too did not turn it off completely.

Another option that you might check is the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit). Maybe it is necessary to set it below 1500 bytes.

Well, lots of love, at the very least.

My DELL Inspiron 1100 laptop has been very clogged up this last few months, so I finally decided to do something about it. I reinstalled Windows XP, wiping all the files, and now it runs much smoother. Of course, I had a nightmare of a time trying to relocate all my drivers, but it's done now.

Of course, I wanted to get the best programs, which from my perspective means IE7 and WMP11 - however, these need SP2 to run. I dutifully installed said update, and now it's all working fine, except now my style has gone. I rightclick on the desktop, then Properties -> Appearance -> Windows and Buttons, but the only option in the drop down menu is Windows Classic. Obviously, this is a bit grey and dull, but I just cannot find the XP style that it's meant to have.

I've seen this problem a few times while searching Google for an answer, but all anyone ever says is go download WindowBlinds. However, the reason my comp was slow before was because of too much freeware, so I was just wondering if there was any other way to do solve this problem, or if there is somewhere where Windows XP style can be downloaded.

Thanks!
Todd Davidson

Exploit broker steals Apple thunder, offers $500,000 for iOS zero days:
SOURCE: zdnet.com (ARTICLE DATE: 11th Aug 2016)

It was only last week that Apple finally launched a bug bounty program, but it did not take long for exploit peddlers to outbid the tech giant...

Apple is offering security researchers up to $200,000 if they privately disclose serious, critical holes in software rather than take such vulnerabilities and exploits elsewhere. However, Exodus Intelligence upped the game on Tuesday by raising Apple's bid, luring researchers with rewards of up to half a million for valid Apple software bugs.

The exploit trader has launched a "hit list" of the hottest, most wanted exploits for software including Apple iOS, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Adobe Flash. The company will pay $500,000 for the most dangerous bugs in Apple iOS 9.3 and above -- and researchers can choose to take a lump sum or smaller payments which continue to roll in as long as the exploit is still alive.

"Exodus is excited to be engaging the global research community in our mission to provide the highest quality of vulnerability intelligence in the industry," Logan Brown, president of Exodus Intelligence said.
