I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It's sad I've had to resort to the forums to try to get more light on this situation. It's absolutely atrocious what has occurred in this exchange between myself and Lenovo. On a model# 80E502XRCF the hard drive dies. The laptop is under warranty. The laptop is sent away for repair where they replace the hard drive. Should have been a piece of cake. Laptop comes back and has Windows 8 on it instead of Windows 10. To further this, Windows 8 isn't activated and will likely stop working in a couple days. Call Lenovo, they want me to pay for the factory recovery media to put Windows 10 back on. I refuse as this is Lenovo's problem. They blame the depot even though it's Lenovo's responsibility to manage the relationship with their authorized retailers. So now Lenovo won't help me and neither will the depot. Stellar service as always Lenovo. Stellar. Anyone have any suggestions short of throwing an in warranty laptop in the garbage and buying a different brand?

Win 7 Home Premium will not finish booting. The splash screen just starts showing a little color, when it goes to choice of system repair or start windows normally. If normally is chosen the same choices repeat. If repair system, no solution is found. Next is an option of 7 choices to manually repair. None advance the cause.

History; bought off craigslist. Believe I may have foolishly bought a computer with illegal Win7 Home Premium OS. Downloaded Win 7 Home Premium iso from Microsoft link. After I installed the key previously used and Microsoft rejected it. I had one more key from a update 3 pack and it worked.

Later I decided to upgrade the BIOS, but did not BU the old BIOS. That was when the booting problem started.

Now when I try to reinstall and repair windows, wrong version error. Help

A:when I try to reinstall and repair windows, wrong version error

Probably a bad BIOS update. Get into your BIOS and reset the settings to default, save and exit. See if it helps.

Also you could try popping open your case, taking the CMOS battery out, waiting for half an hour and then placing it back. This also resets BIOS to factory defaults along with the loss of date and time which need to be set after performing this step.

Hope it helps.

Hi, I'm looking for an authorized dell repair facility in NJ- preferably near the Jersey Shore. The corner of my laptop/keyboard is cracking and its out of dell warrant period. My amex card covers the repair- but it must be done by an authorized repair center. I called dell but they wont give me a list of such facilities. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

A:authorized dell repair facility in southern NJ

There are no Dell-authorized repair centers - repairs are handled on a depot basis (if the system is out of the Dell warranty, you'll need to call Dell to obtain a repair estimate and a return number).  They'll then ship you a box to return the system in, and you'll receive it back in 7-10 days.
There IS a charge for repair estimates on out of Dell-warranty systems:

I bought my T470 a month ago with "3 Years Onsite Next Business Day" warranty. And recenty I noticed there's some problem with my screen, so I called Lenovo. And I've already got the new screen they sent to me.Here is the problem: THE TECHNICIAN NEVER CAME!!! And they keep on saying they will come to fix my laptop "tomorrow", and I can't even remember how many "tomorrow"s have passed!!! What's worse, they would never call to tell you they are not coming on that day, so you need to call again and ask, and they will say they will come "tomorrow", and then they are not coming, and you need to call again. Here is the loop:while (1<2){    YouNeedToCall();    TheyWillSayTomorrow();}  Tl;dr: For my warranty, Can I just go to one of the local Lenovo Authorized Service Store to get my laptop fixed? I don't want to wasting time calling the technicians anymore. I tried to call lenovo today, and 30 mins passed all the agents were still busy lol! Thanks in advance!!!!!

So I bought what I thought what the full version of Windows 7 Pro online for the student discount for $65. I got it all installed and the activation key wouldn't work.

Long story short I got the upgrade version on accident. So I got that refunded and I'm about to just go buy Home Premium. I need to install it. Do I need to uninstall Pro before I install Home Premium? Or will it just get rid of it for me when I install it?

Hi and welcome to TSF this is about your error code
Bug Check 0x74: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO
The BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO bug check has a value of 0x00000074. This bug check indicates that there is an error in the registry.

Parameters
The following parameters appear on the blue screen.

Parameter Description
1 Reserved
2 Reserved
3 Reserved
4 The NT status code (if it is available)

Cause
The BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO bug check occurs if the SYSTEM hive is corrupt. However, this corruption is unlikely, because the boot loader, known as NT Loader (NTLDR) in versions of Windows prior to Vista, checks a hive for corruption when it loads the hive.

This bug check can also occur if some critical registry keys and values are missing. Thee keys and values might be missing if a user manually edited the registry.

Resolving the Problem
Try restarting the computer by selecting "last known good configuration" in the boot options.

If the restart does not fix the problem, the registry damage is too extensive. You must reinstall the OS or use the Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) that you previously created by using the Windows Backup tool.

Yesterday my girlfriends laptop went a little crazy on us, after a few hours I gave up and decided to re-install windows on her laptop and give it a much needed fresh start. She had no Windows CD or even a sticker on the bottom with the specific operating system. So I winged it from my own memory and guessed it was W7 Professional 64bit. Well the install worked perfectly, until I noticed it wouldn't connect to the Internet because the drivers couldn't be found. I figured this meant that i had installed the wrong version of Windows, maybe i had a 64bit vs 32bit problem? Is there any way I can find out what version was previously on it so we can get the right one on the computer? Thanks!

A:Installed Wrong W7 Version?

What model is it? Dell, HP, or Lenovo, and with most manufacturers, you should be able to get the drivers with just the serial number, assuming the computer manufacturer deems that model as Windows 7 compatible.

I told someone I would ask here. They apparently goofed a reinstall and I couldn't answer this. Anyway below is his post:

"I incorrectly read the instructions and assumed that I could install any version with my home premium key. So I installed Ultimate edition. 5 days later an activation reminder came up.

Now I'm stuck without being able to restore my activation and can't activate with the key I have.

Is there any other option besides reinstalling the OS that I can do ? Is there a way to 'downgrade' ultimate to home premium without loosing everything? Thanks for any suggestions."

Any suggestions?

A:Installed the wrong version for my key

You will have to re-install the OS and choose The Home Premium Version...

You can not downgrade from Ultimate to Home Premium..

You will also have to backup your data as it will be erased when you re-install..

You could try Windows 7's backup feature...To back everything up..if you have a lot of files and folders..

Hope this Helps..

EDIT: You should be able to re-install your OS with the same key, Just make sure you install it under Windows 7 Home Premium..Do you have the DVD?

Welcome Pauljay to the windows forums.

If you have installed the ultimate version and you then go to MS and pay for the ultimate version, all you should have to do is to enter the code into your registration and it should then validate and you should be ok. Otherwise, I believe that you better copy all the data and anything else you want to save to an external device and then do a boot of the dvd and delete the existing partitions and then reformat and install the correct version.
Calling microsoft might help as they will be glad to sell you the ultimate version but I think that the PRO version is probably more than most people would need.

I had decided to do a repair install of my XP SP3 system and so was looking - unsuccessfully - for a place to download SP3 but could only find the IT version. Then my computer crashed, and a tech ended up doing the repair install for me. He scrambled around his shop looking for an SP3 disc saying he didn't think I could download it any more. After I got my darling home, I encountered a few little glitches but was able to straightened them out.

Here is my problem: I have reason to believe that the SP3 that was installed in the shop, is the same IT version I was trying to avoid. I want to get rid of it and install the correct version for my XP Home system.

Question 1: How can I download SP3 for XP Home or find an SP3 disc?
Question 2: If I uninstall the IT version and turn on Automatic Updates (yes, I have it turned off), will MS install SP3?
Question 3: I'd really like to be able to save a copy of SP3 in case I need it sometime in the future. Is there a way to do that?
Question 4: What is the name of SP3 (home version)? You know, KB????? In AddRemove Programs and in Revo it only shows the file as SP3.

I'd appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks.

So basically I installed the wrong version of Win7 and it wont allow me to enter the key saying rightly that I'm entering a key to the wrong product.
I also attempted to do an anytime upgrade but that fails without message. I think it is failing because the installed product is not registered yet.

At this point the last thing I want to do is a reinstall because I just finished a weeks worth of work to get the fresh install back to the state I need it in.

What is my best choice here? Can I do a repair install with Professional without losing anything?

Hey everyone!
I'm the guy who dropped his laptop like a week ago and I posted for help here in another section. The problem was a damaged hard disk.. So I bought a new one, they replaced it for me and reinstalled windows. HOWEVER, they installed me the WRONG version of windows.. I have a sony vaio VPCEB15FG that comes with a windows 7 home premium (64-bit). They installed me a windows 7 professional (32-bit).. And they weren't able to find all the driver updates and installations (which doesn't chock me cause it's the wrong version of windows). I went on the sony vaio website and found the proper driver installations. But it's not compatible with my laptop anymore cause it's the wrong version of windows.. What can I do to go back to my windows 7 home premium 64-bit? Where can I get it from.. I don't have any CDs.. And how do I reinstall the proper drivers etc?
Because right now the drivers for the "base system device" and the "ethernet controller" are missing and I can't connect to the internet using a cable. :/
Help?

If you had it fixed at a store or sent it in to get fixed then who ever fixed it should be held responsible for installing the correct version of Windows, and I would insist that they do it for free. If you know any one with an installation CD, then you could use that to do it yourself, although getting it activated can sometime be troublesome, using an OEM key with a retail copy of Windows and all.

https://forums.techguy.org/threads/help-frequent-bsod.1179448/#post-9304102

I updated my AMD HD 7570 card using the auto detect utility provided by AMD. But when it is finished, my graphic driver is now changed to HD 7600. I suppose it is not compatible with the actual graphic card, as I can see the yellow warning on my device manager.

I have tried to look up the 7570 driver on the internet, but every time I install it, it keeps giving me the 7600 series. Please maybe someone from hardware division can help to resolve this issue. Thanks.

I've been using Bitdefender Internet Security for 2 years with no complains at all. BIS2017 worked like a charm, almost flawless, maybe a bit heavy sometimes during updating but i felt very secure and happy about my core security. Until Bitdefender decided that users should be forced to update to 2018 version via automatic updates and experience the buggiest version of an AV ever... Bitdefender forum is full of frustrated users and complains about 2018 version: High CPU usage, high HDD usage, services not loading, firewall issues, firewall permits every app, quick scan that takes 15 minutes to complete, custom scan issues, safe file issues, and so on... Users are told to open a ticket, tickets are opened and stay that way, the official reply is " the issue is known and currently working on a fix, we apologize for any inconvenience, the fix will be delivered via automatic update". 4 major updates since ticket opening that required a reboot, but no fixes at all.

Given the above, WHAT ON EARTH is going on with Bitdefender? You have a top notch AV and the newest version is a complete failure, a kingdom of bugs and problems, and a downgrade for sure. How can someone trust the very vendor for its protection? Who can ensure users that its computer is well protected with so many problems and flaws? Do you feel protected? Personally, i m highly thinking of moving to Kaspersky or Eset, even if where i live, Bitdefender is cheaper than the above vendors. I d like to hea... Read more

A:What's wrong with Bitdefender 2018 version?

This is to be expected with newer versions of every software. Take just-released versions almost like beta... It's fact BitDefender should not release a buggy, maybe incomplete version of their antivirus, but there are lots of factors that could influence this scenario, like killing Windows Update, new Microsoft Security policies on Windows 10, etc..

My suggestion would be uninstalling and using a previous version or tweaking BitDefender for less protection to make it consume less. Else, ask for a refund but i personally would not.

Hi, I have been using my new computer for about two months when I realized that I was using internet explorer 256 bit. My computer is Vista home edition 64-bit. Just today I noticed that Internet Explorer 64 bit was also listed in my start up programs. I then brought that browser up and now am using it. I have no AciveX controls listed in this browser other then McAfee SiteAdvisor and when I click on (tools>internet options>advanced) I have no java listed there. To test it I went to my game site(pogo) and tried to load a game but recieved a popup stating I have no java. I do have java listed in my Programs and Features (java 6 update 10). I realize now it is loaded in my other Internet explorer that is not 64-bit. My question is: Do I un-install java6 update 10 and re-install into the browser I am using now or do I download a second copy of java for this 64-bit browser. As far as I know, I don't have Word 2003 but received an update from Microsoft Automatic Office Updates yesterday for "Word 2003 Service Pack 2."
It won't install (failed ~6 times), possibly because I don't have Word 2003!
I went to the site, scanned, it keeps offering it.

I downloaded the regular file to my hard drive but am really hestitant about installing it since I don't have Word 2003. Maybe some of its components like Excel or whatever need updates, I don't know. It really wants to give it to me. Shuold I install from the hard disk copy or not?

Don't have the original install disks for the broken machine in question so I can't go back to them.

Any clues what might be going on?

I guess I'm just going to have to make a fresh install.

I came across the error vsfilter - Wrong file version! trying to playback a .mpg file using Windows Media Player 11. The media player took me to a site saying I needed an MPEG 2 Decoder. I then searched Google and found that I could try using the K-Lite Codec Pack. Well I installed the codec pack and I still get the error. K-Lite has GSpot built in so I used it to find out if I had the correct codec installed and GSpot says I do. I searched my computer for the vsfilter.dll and I have File Version: 1.01.4. I searched Google again for a fix and came across a site that recommened to other to uninstall the vsfilter and re-register it. I tried this method and it did not work. Anyone know what I can do to fix this error?

regsvr32 -u vsfilter.dll
Press Enter...

regsvr32 vsfilter.dll
Press Enter...

You can sometimes work-around this issue by installing Cyberlink PowerDVD.

I have had some adventures in the world of codecs. This may or may not provide some useful insight for you, but it costs nothing to look

Hi, I have had my computer about a month and a half and today I just realized I have been the wrong Internet Explorer. In my list of programs Internet Explorer 64-bit is also listed so I brought that browser up instead of the one I have been using all along which is not a 64-bit. Anyhow I have nothing listed in my activeX contols outside of McAfee SiteAdvisor. I then went to my game site (Pogo) to play my games and recieved a popup box stating I do not have Java installed. In my Programs and Features I do have Java 6 update 10 installed but it is only listed in the other browser I was using. It is not listed in this browser. My question is, `Do I un-install java6 update 10 and reinstall for this browser or do I install it again for this 64 bit browser, I have no idea what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

A:Internet Explorer (wrong version)

OK, you don't have the *wrong* version running. Windows 64bit includes *both* 32bit versions and 64bit versions of Internet Explorer - this is done by default (even in Windows 7 pre-Beta). This is there because some applications (most notably, at this time, Adobe Flash Player) does not support running on a 64bit browser in Windows. Yet.

Also, the same applies for JAVA - there are 32bit versions and there are 64bit versions - you obviously have the 32bit version installed, so your 32bit browser can see it.

You're welcome to get the 64bit version of JAVA and see if POGO games will work with your 64bit browser - however, if they use *any* flash material, you're out of luck and will be forced to use the 32bit version.

A few days ago my desktop was loading slowly. The icons would take forever to load and the taskbar never would. A Microsoft Support page suggested to perform a repair installation. I did so. The first part worked perfectly. Then, after rebooting my computer it just keeps rebooting over and over. It will go to a Windows XP screen that says "Setup is restarting......." and then goes to a black screen where a cursor is present. Then, the computer will restart.

Safe mode and last known configruation does the same thing. I've also tried redoing the repair installation but the same thing happens. I've tried a boot disk and it didn't work.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi and welcome to TSF,
This sounds like you've got a bad hard drive. Do you know the model/brand of the hard drive? If so - download and run the HD tools/utilities from the manufacturer.

Original issue: About 30 seconds after logging into Windows, the computer will BOS and reboot. Unable to catch what the BOS says.

Routinly, I went to do the following two things:
1) Boot from XP disk, run a chkdsk /R
2) XP repair install

Caveots:
1) Orginal Gateway OS disk is no where to be found.
2) Installed OS is the Gateway OEM XP Home install. Repairing with a normal XP Home disk (likely not OEM)
3) CD KEY would not work with the repair, so am repairing using my other XP Home CD KE. Possible OEM keys do no work with orignal XP Home disks?

Now here is now current issue:
XP repair install stops at 31 minutes remaining, Installing Network devices. It's not "frozen" or anything because the little squares in the right hard corner are still moving and the text area to the mid right is still telling me about the exciting new featues of XP.

What I've tried:
-Tried the "Fix Windows XP in 8 Steps" method in hopes of clearing the boot.ini of the repair install and allow me to boot normally. http://tim.brogdon.net/wordpress/?p=18
-Removing all PCI cards are external hardware incase they were causing the hang up.

My questions/concerns:
-Could using a different key cause the install to stop at a certain point?
-Is there a way to find out what the current registered CD KEY is? Maybe I am reading it wrong off the case?
-How can I cancel this XP repair install? There has to be a way...
-Is there a difference from OEM and oringal XP disk installs? I thou... Read more

I bought the parts myself for the PC I'm using now and had someone install everything (XP Pro). After about a month I had problems with slow scatching sound when playing music (ALC 850, Included in motherboard.) Then I formated the HD and installed a fresh XP Media Center Edition 2005, which I still use. I had several problems since then. Most of the times windows halt, or restart resulting in data loss in HD, and I have no choice but to format and install again the windows. Sometimes 3 times a week. Most of the times the problem is getting a "blue screen" with the error message:

when I looked this error in the administrative tools it stated this error.

A:Defective Hard Drive? Wrong XP version?

Looks like you need new IDE cables. Are the ones you have now round or flat? Some of the cheaper round ones can produce cross-talk from one wire to another within the cable causing data corruption.

Good quality flat cables are generally better. Keep the length under 18" if you can.

Neither of the two HJT analysers show anything untoward in your HJT log.

Hi

I tried to reinstall my windows 7 with the build-in recovery manager (HP).
Everything went well, I did'nt take a back up of my files (with the recovery manager) and i don't need them. The manager fragmented my C and prepared my laptop for the recovery. Then disaster strikes.

After rebooting and showing the windows loge, a prompt screen telled me that my C:\RM\RM\recoverymgr.exe was not the right version for my windows. And I needed to download the right version, (32bit or 64bit). Short after that the screen disappeared and the recovery went on.

After a while he started installing all my default drivers. Again disaster.
uiadump32.exe crashed. The error :

After 3 times showing me these errors the pc rebooted and showed a window which telled me that the recovery of my windows 7 failed.
There was a button for details, but it didn't give me anything.

Now how do I fix this. I can't go on windows on my pc, when I start up , it goes to the recovery manager.
Everything is legit, no illigal software and I just followed the recovery manager.
I already did a memory test and recoverypartition test and no errors where found.

You could try running recovery again from the recovery partition using the F11 key when the computer first turns on. If it continues to fail, you need recovery DVDs.

Did you create your recovery DVDs for your computer as strongly suggested by HP when you first bought your computer? If not, you will have to contact HP and ask for the recovery DVDs and pay to have them sent to you. It sounds like your recovery partition may have corrupted files on it now.

All of these redirect me to the old Windows Update site (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp)

Brief history - I've been using Word & Outlook for years without problem. Last week I got new PC. Corp IT set up Office and transfered old file to new PC.

This is where our story begins....

Have been using Word 2003 on an XP Pro system for a few days now. I have an old memo I've been updating. Looks good on the screen. I save the document with a new name. So far so good.

If attach to an e-mail via Outlook and send it to someone down the hall. What they get is an older version of the doc before I changed it.

So I went to the Outlook "Sent" folder. Saved the attachment back to myself. Opened it in word. Same thing - Old version of document.

I'm guessing there is some sort of version / editing toggle set wrong?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Tom

A:Outlook send wrong version of Word Doc

Hi TomHey,

This is really weird! Never heard of Version control in Outlook!

Could you be explicit on what you are doing:
When you edit and save your memo do you still have it open in Word when you then attach it in Outlook?
Shouldn't make a difference.

To be double sure, you are attaching the new-name doc aren't you?

Have you tried File / Send To Mail Recipient (as attachment) from your Word doc (it's quicker anyway).

When you say you you saved the doc back to yourself from the Sent folder, what are you actually doing , are you opening it (in Word) and saving, or right-click save, or.... why don't you just open it from Sents?

What is the doc name of the attachment in Sents?

So, 1st check is, what is the document name in the Sent message? is it the new name or the old name.

LOL
Hew
