Audio Freezing Sounding Like A Robot

Q: Audio Freezing Sounding Like A Robot

My problem started one night a few months ago, when watching a film from my pc on to my tv, everything was going ok then it started to freeze for a second or two with the audio sounding like a robot then continue playing ok and would start repeating it every so often, so, i tested all my hard drives with DSKCHK, no problems, did a check with seagate disk test all ok, did a memtest all ok, did a graphics stress test all ok, then one night i was going through some audio tracks and the robot sound appeared on them, so i thought that rules out graphics side, i even swapped from motherboard audio to a soundblaster card and did it on both, i deleted MPC to VLC same on both, i even did a windows xp repair, still happening, i even found a asus motherboard test but nothing on that, all drivers up to date, i recorded on my cycle cam which replicates the problem, and can be found here http://vid1177.photobucket.com/albums/x348/andsaw/PC Audio/23090002.mp4 its at the 40second mark, you will have to turn your volume up high as the cams mic is not brilliant, can anyone identify whats going and how i can sort it, any other info required please ask.
Motherboard Asus P5KC.
Processor Q9300.
Graphics generic Nvidia 9500GT.
Thermaltake 500 w psu.

I hope this is in the right section.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi there

The problem is definitely a software one, because you said you tried another sound card and the problem persists.
The problem is most likely coming from your codecs/filters.

If you have codecs installed, uninstall them and try playing again.
Still not working, uninstall all media players. Re install VLC and try again.

Last ting I can think of is that you download and install XP codec pack.
Just Google it, you will find it.

Hope this helps

Good Evening All,
I have a Inspiron 3847 desktop and a couple of days ago the computer started to sound like a robot, i.e slow and breaking up. To my knowledge all of the software is up to date. The problem is fixed when I restart the computer. Anyone have a fix for this problem?

You said the issue fixes itself on reboot. So what software and applications are you running and how long is your usage before the audio issue shows up again?

I have a self-assembled desktop PC - full specs in the signature below, but in short, it has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor on a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mainboard, which uses a Realtek Azalia ALC887 on-board sound system. I have no loudspeakers and listen to the computer sound exclusively through a Microsoft LX-1000 headset. I also have a Logitech C270 HD webcam that has its own microphone. My PC has 16 GB RAM, a SSD and a large HDD. It runs Windows 8.1 Update 1 with all Windows updates (Patch Tuesday was this week, but my problems had started before that and I'm sure they're unrelated).

Everything is working fine, except the audio, which started behaving strangely a few days ago. The problems started suddenly and I can't think of anything that could have caused them. There were no hardware changes or any intervention in the hardware, nor did I install any new software that could have messed up things.

When playing music, it sounds muffled, with the volume very low and the voice and several instruments muted, while other instruments in the background arrangement sound louder. No graphic equalizer is on, and this happens with any player software (Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc.), and any source (MP3 music, audio CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.). There appears to be no hardware problem with either my headset or the onboard audio: when I run both Windows' native and Realtek's driver sound output tests, the test tune comes out loud and clear in the tested chann... First thing to do is disable or disconnect the Web Cam. They have been known to cause various sound problems. It may not be the problem, but eliminate it as the problem.

Stereo Mix needs to be set as the Default Recording Device.

Refresh the RealTek by going to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry in the Sound section then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the sound. This usually fixes any Windows/Sound corruptions. If this does not fix it, download and reinstall the RealTek sound drivers.

Hello, I have a Sony Vaio laptop and recently whenever I use YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, stream or play audio/visual content anywhere the sound freezes and makes a robot noise constantly.

I am a dummy with computers and technical stuff but from what I have read on the web regarding this matter it could have been something to do with drivers, too much stuff on the hard drive, flash and/or java needing updating etc..

I have done all of these things (I think) and it still hasn't done anything! Could someone plleeassee advise me what I need to do to sort this out.

Also, my fan is very hot and sounds like a vacuum cleaner (I have tried cleaning it, I think I need a new fan) but could this be affecting anything?

Thanks all

edit: I use latest internet explorer, and sometimes chrome but it is the same on both of the browsers, and besides it happens with spotify which is downloaded?

A:Audio sounds like a robot on everything, please help!!

It does sound like something having to do with your sound card drivers. I would go into the device manager which is in the system tab of the control panel and completely uninstall the sound card and any other related components; reboot; then let windows hopefully re-detect and reinstall the sound card and its associated drivers. If you need more info on anything just ask.

My cousin and I were watching videos on Youtube on the highest volume (I also have really terrible speakers) and when we paused it, it would make this really high pitched screeching. No joke. Our ears hurt because the frequency was /way/ too high.
Then sometimes, the sound wouldn't work at all. I looked it up online and got: Check your sound -_- Like that's not the first thing someone would do.
And yet another problem that happens. Echoing audio. (if you've played online or used a phone and you hear the echoing of your own voice. Except it's not mine. It's the video's.). This is actually a constant problem if I have the volume on its highest then when I pause it, it'll make that high pitched screeching.
This is my second post. I'm sorry if I can't really get into detail much.

A:My Audio is really weird sounding

Our ears hurt because the frequency was /way/ too high.

Frequency too high? Are you canines? It hurt your ears because the SPL (sound pressure level - volume) was too high. Unless really durable headphones, it takes special speakers to reproduce high frequencies (above 20,000Hz) audio at high enough volumes to cause pain - and that would be very bad as ear damage is cumulative - that is, every time you subject your ears to high SPLs from music, jet noise, etc., some damage occurs and that damage builds and builds resulting in hearing loss as you age at much faster rate than those ears that were not subjected to such high SPLs.

Also, note your ears can handle very loud "clean" music much better than loud "distorted" music coming from overdriven speakers.

So if you plan on living beyond 60 or so, take care of your ears now.

You told us nothing about the computer. PC or notebook? Brand and model? Version of Windows? Browser?

Do other sounds work normally? What if you play a MP3 tune (at normal volumes)?

Hey everybody. Got a really odd problem...

So, my computer has recently been fixed. (Networking card problem..long story)

I receive the computer , and a fresh new version of XP is on it with nothing else but drivers.

I load my backed-up music, and start to play it.
At the low parts (heavy metal by the way) or simply in just random spots the audio seems to fade in and out, almost like the balance is changing to a non-existent speaker.

It is a Sigma-tel audio driver, and I have tried turning the speakers off and unplugging the cable. Also had a look to see if there was some sort of Sigma-tel audio studio included with the driver, and there wasn't. And I checked my balance levels in the volume control panel.
No luck.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

A:Audio Sounding Quite Strange

Try to isolate the problem first, if you have a headset, use it, if the problem persist then could be some audio driver issues. Download the latest driver for your audio.

I'm not sure what happened with my computer lately. It started one day when my previous audio card audibly died while listening to iTunes.

I went out and purchased a SIIG Soundwave 5.1 PCI sound card and everything seemed to be ok.

I also added 2 more gigs of RAM shortly after and then, a few days later, removed them as they didn't seem to be making a difference in my system. After the install of the additional 2 gigs of RAM, weird things started to happen.

While listening to any audio/video over the internet, the video is erratic as well as the audio - it gets this weird robotic sound to it, almost slow-motion.

For example, on youtube, it does this until the entire video has loaded, and then it plays ok. Any sites with background music, it has to loop once first before it plays correctly.

I don't know what to do!

In addition, sometimes my system lags incredibly to the point that when i move my mouse, it skips all over the screen.

I have no clue what's happening here and its probably a bunch of different things.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Also, I'm running an Intel Duo Core with 2 gigs of RAM.. Windows Vista 32 SP 1

Then some gut named Mr Robot kept writing CMD style messages and then asks for my E-Mail address but I did not want to risk going any further because I fear that this is some sort of hacking method. Robot City is an old '95 game. Nevermind why I'm wasting my time with it..

I can load the game just fine and everything works except for a small glitch in the display. When I move the mouse it leaves a large square trail behind it and distorts the screen turning it black.

The help file mentions this and I am running the game in 640x480 and 256 color just as it says I should.

Any ideas?

Here is the section of the help file that mentions it:

7. Video Display Problems
Robot City requires 256-color mode
Robot City is an 8-bit, 256-color application. In order to view
Robot City, you need a video card which supports at least 256
colors in 640x480 resolution. Robot City requires you run in 256
color mode. Other modes will cause colors to appear incorrectly
and may cause streaking or trails on the screen. If you are not
in 256-color mode, a warning dialog will appear when you launch
Robot City telling you to correct the problem, exit and restart

I'm looking for an application which works as follows:

I give it the address of a webpage, and it opens up each link on the webpage, and then opens up each link in each opened up page, etc... and so on.... until a pre-specified number of levels deep.

So, in some sense I'm looking for a web-browsing robot.

This way, I can sit back and view all the web-pages without having to injure myself by repeatedly clicking on the links.

Can anyone point me to anything like this? (freeware please).

A robots.txt file is a short text file that resides in your home directory. Before search engines spider your site, they look into this file to see which files/file types and/or directories they are not allowed to see.

More details at http://buzzycode.com/
The following disallows all search engines and robots from crawling select directories and pages:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/

Hello. I have an ATI card (8500All-in-Wonder) installed. I watch television from the computer the top corner. Sometimes I will have another application on that also projects sound. How can I adjust the sound in the two separate windows? Is there a way to do this? Somtimes I am watching a dvd on the computer and when the mail notifier comes out to alert me of an incoming message, It's so loud! I had to turn that sound off because I would be jumpy with the loud sounds. On the ATI program, the mute button does not work properly either.
I have tried to record television programs on the computer and have a hard time recording the sound. I've tried everything in the Master Volume on the recording tab. I just can't get it.
Is there a decent Freeware program that will let me record a television show playing in the computer? Maybe that's the root to go. If there are not any Freeware programs, can someone advise me on some programs that I may purchase.
I would really appreciate any help with these matters.

hope to hear something soon.

I'm running a pretty small machine with XP on it.
Yesterday, it was fine - actually was a very busy machine, came to use it a little later and it had froze, so I did the old ctrl, alt, del and restarted it okay, switched it off properly last night. Now, I have tried to boot up this evening and there is an alarm sounding approx 5 secs, then break, then alarm. The screen is black and nothing else seems to be happening.
The only thing that has changed on it was at the weekend when I downloaded the latest version of PANDA (virus protection) but it all ran okay after installation.
Thanks in advance.

When I turned on my computer today I heard the characteristic sound of an unseated video card. So I turned er off pushed on it a bit turned it back on and it appeared to be fine... However, after that i started up Starcraft 2 to watch a replay from a game i had last night and a couple of seconds in I heard this bizarre alarm sound. after it chimed 4 times(i think) in alternating tones it shut down hard. Tried it again and again a couple seconds into the actual replay it shutdown again. Any ideas?

Windows xp x64
AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual
processor 5200+
2.60 GHz, 2.00 GB Ram

BTW i am using it now(not in a game) and it seems ok. Could this be a video card problem? :(

This is driving me bananas!!!

On recently installing XP (as some of you know!!), my modem connects to the internet, no problem. The only thing is, that the bloody sound of it remains throughout internet sessions. I've tried turning sounds off via XP and AOL, but it won't turn off.

Any ideas?

Hi!  I was recently given this laptop as a birthday present. I downloaded Skype as I use it a lot for business and it worked well on my previous Dell laptop. However, when I call someone, they sound incredibly muffled and it is difficult to work out what they are saying. When I have muted music in the background, the sound from Skype is completely fine. It is also fine if I have headphones on. I have tested the speakers on the laptop and they are working completely okay. I have updated SKype to the latest version. I have also increased the microphone level to maximum in Skype tool settings. What else do you suggest? THe laptop is new so it is weird and very frustrating it is not working, however Youtube and ITunes work fine. Many thanks!Paula

Hello everyone this will be my first problem post *LOL*
I am troubleshooting my parents computer.
Dell 2400 desktop
2.4 Ghz, 640Mbs RAM
40 Gig HD (was bought in 2003 I believe)
See i made a big boo boo I believe. When they first got the computer it ran fine. They were having harddrive space issues (dad likes games and mom likes screen savers and whatnot.) so I thought I'd add another harddrive. I have many IDE cables. MANY cables... so I grabbed one and a 20gig harddrive and switched the cords and added the hardrive. Then my parents began complaining that the comp was really slow. i thought it was spyware or something but its not. I've done a spybot, ad-aware, trendmicro virus scan, checked msconfig and the startup items, looked at the processes list and there is nothing running that shouldn't be. Also I even reformatted (deleted partitions and everything)... same problem. I even tried to put the original cable dell provided when the comp was bought, back in and eliminate the second harddrive... and it won't boot. I get a motherboard beep or whatever and it tells me to,
press f1 to retry and f2 to enter setup (bios).
But if I put that same slow *** back back on with the second harddrive... it accepts it, its just slow as hell. I even bought a brand new 2 hd ide cable and it doesn't work either...
I've determined it must be the cable or the harddrive itself. Is there a difference from ide cable to ide cable? I'm really out of ideas. any advice would be welcome.

Oh I will try to help but your explination could be many things.
The cables I don't realy know, the ram depends on what games your playing, the graphics card also I don't know about but make sure you have nothing running in the background, and try ccleaner to clear unwanted cookies etc:- and do you really need so many screensavers it may use to much space
Please mail me if I can help more

since last night 3 times an alarm has been going off inside of my pc, the external display say's the CPU is running to temperatures of around 58c (at the moment it's at 50c) HDD is at the moment on 33.5c although I'm not sure how accurate these temp's are and I just wondered if any one else has a pc case with alarms on like this, I am really puzzled and all the fan's are working.

Should I immediately shut the system down as soon as this alarm sounds?
