I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just read this article on IE having a major security issue and I have to say it makes me very concerned. They say to use Firefox, Chrome, or Opera. Are these really secure?Which is the best one? Here is the article: http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/111811Thanks

A:Major flaw revealed in Internet Explorer

IE has always been targeted by hackers and malware programmers because it has the lion's share of the browser market and will cause the most disruption (just as they like it) This makes vulnerabilities look worse than they are.

I think there is a general move to recommend alternative browsers such as Firefox or Opera because of this and there is certainly no big reason to stick with IE other than familiarity.

My advice is to try FF or Opera (or Chrome, though this is still in the early stages) and see what you think. The basic features are similar in style and use so it isn't a big step.

Of course, If (or some people would say, when) FF overtakes IE and the malware developers switch their attention to another browser they may decide to offer advice the other way

Researchers at computer giant HP have published exploit code that can be used to attack a weakness in Internet Explorer, after Microsoft refused to issue a patch. In a blog post, Dustin Childs, HP senior security content developer, said the move to publish the flaw was not out of "spite or malice," but was in accordance with its own disclosure policy.

The bug allows an attacker to bypass Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR), which acts as one of the many lines of defense in the popular browser. But the flaw only affects 32-bit systems, which the HP researchers said still affects millions of systems, even if many systems nowadays are 64-bit.

Do NOT install the recommended updates. M$ has secretly hidden an nVIDIA driver there. None of the recommended updates' details say ANYTHING about any of them being a display driver or driver for that matter. After a restart, it even went as far as turning DSR on GLOBALLY (2.00x) and after trying to uninstall the driver and everything with it (physx, 3D etc) the end result was nothing named nVIDIA was in add/remove or Revo Uninstaller.

I did a Clean Custom Install (driver and PhysX only) of the same driver and the proper entries are installed and showing in add/remove.

I have not had a single graphics driver appear in Windows Update until today. Something really freaking fishy is going on. I am running Windows 8.1.

Alright, let the rant begin:

A month back, Comcast backstabbed us and gave us <1 Mbps, when we were paying for 40+ Mbps. After three different routers and three different tech support guys came over, we "solved" the problem. Only not really.
It seems everywhere else the internet is fine. On this computer though (HP Pavilion p7-1534 PC, running Windows 8) it's anything but fine. The problem is that the connection randomly drops and says "Limited" in the Networks panel. I can reconnect immediately, but I play Wizard101 and once you lose connection for the slightest second, you have to restart the entire program (Which takes close to a minute). It has also been bothering other users of this computer.

Another odd thing is that, when I try to check the "Connect Automatically" box, and we lose connection again, the box NEVER stays checked. Even weirder, ALL of the other networks in my area have the "Connect Automatically" box checked. I think this may be part of the problem.

I am an avid hater of Windows 8 because nothing seems to work, including this. The internet was working fine until Comcast backstabbed us, but now I think it is just the computer.

Any ideas how to solve this? I am getting REALLY tired of it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

One more thing: We have no bandwidth problems, it just randomly dorps. My parents are considering buying a booster, would that solve the problem?

Try replacing the network cable for that computer if that doesn't resolve the issue. Then next thing you can do is to try to do a system restore/ or update your Ethernet adapter drivers.

A couple of weeks ago I installed Windows 8 (fresh install from scratch, not an update) on my computer. I do a lot of web browsing and over the last couple of weeks I've been using Windows 8, I could swear the web browsing wasn't as fast at it used to be on Windows 7.
I then noticed I was having major issues bringing up my router's control panel (ASUS RT-N56U) so thinking it was my router I upgraded the firmware. Turned out, the Avast Anti-Virus I was running has issues with Windows 8. I removed AVAST and turned on Windows Defender (which in Windows 8 is also an anti-virus program now referred to MSE - Miscrosoft Security Essentials). MSE has gotten fairly good reviews so I decided to use it, for maximum compatibility with Windows 8.

However, although the router control panel would now come up okay, browsing still seemed to not be quite as fast as it used to be. I sat down at the old 5-year old Dell Desktop next to me that is running Windows 7, both computers were connected to the router via Gigabit Ethernet. I tested network speeds with Speedtest.net to make sure they were both getting the same Internet speeds (which they were.) I found a couple 'heavy' web pages to test:

sports.yahoo.com (home page)

The browsing was MUCH faster on the Windows 7 machine!! So I decided to do more of a controlled test.

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

When I connect to my enterprises network, for some reason it downgraded my version of Internet Explorer 11 to Internet Explorer 7. It doesn't do this on my home network or on any other network I have connected to, only my enterprises network.
I have contacted my ICT department to see if they can solve this issue, and they don't know how to fix this issue.
I used the website https://supportdetails.com to check the details of my browser and what other websites detect it as, and it detects it as Internet Explorer 7 for some strange reason. When I check the actual version of Internet Explorer
by going to the Tools button and then About Internet Explorer, it says I am using Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.18763.
I am running Windows RT 8.1 which might be the reason as to why other websites/services detect my browser as IE 7, as other devices such as the Surface Pro 3, iPad and other laptops all work fine.
If there is a way to make my device be detected as Internet Explorer 11 and not 7, that would be great.

Regards, Mr Kaos

My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11...etc etc.
Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities, etc etc. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

Hello everyone and thank you for participating in this wonderful site.

My computer is a Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz, Running Windows XP Proffessional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.
The problem I'm writing about has been there for about a year. All in all it's the same prolem ever since, but every once in a while some detail changes, like a new error message.
Every about 5-15 minutes the Start Menu Taskbar and the desktop icons disappear (Explorer crushes). Most of the times they reappear shortly after, but sometimes they don't, and then I use task manager to run explorer and then they reappear. Yet, sometimes the computer stucks altogether, and I have to restart. In addition to that, many popups open when I surfe the web using Internet Explorer. The popup changes every few days, but in between it's always the same one.
Another point is that while the crushing of explorer can occur anytime, it most often occurs while I open or close Internet Explorer windows.

Sometimes I get an error message, and as I said, they change from time to time. But still, here are 2:

rundll32.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x74725956" referenced memory at "0x00a10004". The memory could not be "read".

Click on ok to terminate program.
Click on cancel to debug the program.

About a week ago, I turned on my laptop to find that Internet Explorer was freezing and crashing. When it crashed, I wouldn't get the normal Windows error reporting message, but instead Windows Explorer froze and I was forced to restart. When I restarted -- stupidly, more than 10 times in 2 hours -- the first few times, a few ad windows and anti-virus downloader screens popped up. I scanned with Housecall, and an infection with Mal-vundo came up that it couldn't repair. I downloaded SpyBot, AdAware, and AVG free, and not much popped up that I knew how to fix other than a dat file called __c001BA5E, and a few others. I tried to delete these on reboot, and it seemed to work for awhile. Soon enough, though, both explorers were crashing again. I've tried to avoid rebooting, but I can't help it. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. While using the internet, a new window pops up displaying sometimes nothing, somethimes a search engine, sometimes something called reditty.com... And when it loads it causes Internet Explorer to crash.

Also, a strange dll. file shows up in MSCONFIG startup programs, if i click for it not to show up on next load up, then a new dll file replaces it... Also, Rundll shows up in task manager. Sometimes twice... with no programs or windows open....

Hello, I really hope one of you can help...

My desktop PC has suddenly developed a niggling little problem that means it is all but useless now. When opening most programs, IE, Windows Explorer and Opera the screen gets caught in a juddering motion that seems to act like the software is switching between Restore, Full Screen and Maximize functions, at the rate of about 6 switches a second. As you can probably imagine, this means the computer is more or less useless, and it's getting very frustrating. I've called the shop where we bought it, and got the usual "It's not our problem, try system restore, or restore factory settings". Tried system restore about 3 days ago, and no matter where I try to restore to it's having none of it, and then I got stop in a lovely "Packard Bell recovery program (which includes the system restore program)" loop, that stops actually being able to boot into Windows as it goes on a restarting loop, again, and again and again, until all of a sudden it'll boot. For this reason, System Restore is now switched off so I can continue getting into Windows. Programs not affected are Media Player, Photoshop, Outlook and RealPlayer plus others.

I assume this is a software issue, but I would really like to be able to sort this without having to wipe the whole computer.... Please can anybody help!

Dear Tech guys,
I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.

Below is the dialog that comes whenever we double click or open (for eg: on C:\ or any folder in the left side pane of the windows explorer. If I just keep expanding the + of the tree no problem, only on clicking the item to open the following error occurs.)

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

program: C:\Windows\Explorer.exe

This Application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I am running on Windows XP SP 2. I dont have google toolbar. I have yahoo tool bar installed. I have tried uninstalling it and installing it again and other combinations as well.

I have also tried sfc /scannow as well. It did not work.

It doesnt look like any adware or spyware (yahoo's norton spyware had done a complete run and no problems in the system as reported by them).

What should I do now to get back to normal operation of windows explorer.

Thanks and Regards,
Naga Kumar S

A:Windows Explorer Runtime Error (not related to Internet Explorer)

I would un-install the Yahoo Toolbar and then put Google Toolbar in, Then I would try to download .NET framework 2.0

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6b-356b-4a2c-857c-e62f50ae9a55&displaylang=en

and install it. If it tells you that you already have it re-install it anyway.

I really hope someone can help me out here, as this is my work box, and it will take me about a week to get everything re-installed and configured if I have to format :-(

The problem is that if I try to open windows explorer or internet explorer, they immediately crash. I suspect that this is due to spyware / virus.

I have since upgraded from service pack 2 - 3 and run scans with McAfee, Avast and SpyHunter3. Can't find anything ...
All open / save dialog boxes work fine though ... which is luckily the only way i can work now ... through firefox

there's this one thing I find windows explorer REALLY ANNOYING.

if I ever type the folder address wrong (missing a colon when my hands got sloppy) in the address bar, windows explorer automatically TURNS INTO internet explorer mode and does online search.

I don't even use IE any more except for automatic update. I wish there's a way windows explorer wouldn't automatically do it when I type the wrong folder.

I had the access disabled for internet explorer in the add/remove program, but it doesn't do jack to windows explorer from doing it
