Recovery Console cannot get past Admin Pass

Q: Recovery Console cannot get past Admin Pass

I have finally gotten into the recovery console! Yay. Now I'm stuck. It's asking for my admin password. I did not set an admin password. I am like 90% sure of it. I tried pressing enter as to leave it blank. Didn't work. So I tried the few passwords that it could have been (I use similar passwords so I can keep track) and they won't work either. Is there anyway to bypass this? I am trying to fix a hal.dll error

Preferred Solution: Recovery Console cannot get past Admin Pass

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all. Sorry if this q has been asked many times before, but I don't know what my admin pwd is when the Recovery Console is activated via the XP CD-ROM. I've tried the admin pwd for my main XP account, leaving it blank, 'adminadmin' as someone suggested. Nothing works.

Can anyone suggest a way to get past of this please? My PC is toasted at the mo, and I need to get some music written fast!!!

Thanks to any suggestions I receive.

A:Recovery Console/Admin pwd.

What ever your password was when you first installed the OS, is the password it is looking for.

Perhaps, it might be easier if you just explained the problem and we may be able to provide you a simpler solution !!!

I did a clean install of XP pro and am the sole user with a user account password. Upon installing the recovery console it asks me for the administrator's password. When I enter my user account password it, it says it is the wrong password. I'm I to assume that the password that I'm entering on boot up is not the same as the 'administrator password for the recovery console? What am I doing wrong? How do I put a administrator password in so I can get into the recovery console?? Any help is appreciated. Please reply to:
[email protected]

A:XP's recovery console admin password help

it is not the same
even if u are the only user and u have admin rights, there is still an ccount called 'administrator' and this is hidden unless u restart into safe mode or manually type in user: 'administrator'
the password is therefore different then your username password (unless during the setup u entered the same password as u did for your username)

if u didnt put any 'administrator' password, try just pressing 'enter' when asked in recovery console but remember dont put your username there but 'administrator' in the 'user' field

I want to disable the loading of this file in the recovery console, following these instructions:

Now I am asked for an administrator password. As far as I know, there is no admin password on this machine, but just hitting ENTER does not do the trick.

I was trying to get into the recovery console on the XP install CD and it asked me for the admin password. I don't recall setting a password while installing XP but if I did I know for certain what I used. But that one does not work.

I then booted normally and made sure that my administrator logon password was the same as the one I would have used while installing XP.

Then I tried again to get into the recovery console and again it does not recognize my password.

Is there a default password for XP home that is used if one does not set a password?

A:[SOLVED] admin password for recovery console

if you never did set up an administrative password, then just press enter. If that does not work, then unfortunately according to the rules we cannot help you bypass a password since it would seem there was one installed at one time.

So I boot up Windows (XP Pro SP2) and after the loading screen, I get a black screen. I've googled the problem and can't find a way to fix it without using the recovery console. The problem is, as far as I remember, my Admin password is blank. However, when I press enter at the prompt without typing anything, it says I have the wrong password, so it's probably something else that I don't remember.

What I need is either another way to fix the black screen without recovery console, or a way to find or change the admin password.

I have a separate hard drive I can use as an alternate Windows install, so I can get into the HD of my original install, but can't access the original Windows.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I am trying to use bootcfg to add my old HD with win2kpro on it to the boot menu. The old HD is installed and I have the recovery console installed. All I need to do is run the commands in recovery console. ...right?

BUT...

When I go into recovery console for the HD with XP home on it, it asks me to log in as the administrator and asks for a password. What appears to be going on here is, the company that I bought the computer from has installed XP with them as the administrator and set up another account for me as a user. So really I'm locked out of part of my own computer.... which really burns me up.

does this sound correct... or am I all wrong. I'm probably going to call the computer store and ask if they have the password in a file with my name.

Oh and does that sound like what I want to do to set up a dual boot?

A:XP home recovery console /multi boot /admin account

I just sifted through a bunch of help files and found out that the password for recovery console needs to be changed in the %systemroot%/system32 directory using the command prompt.

Can anyone provide more insight into this?

For some reason my wireless internet connection deleted itself :s So i decided to do a system restore back to a previous point. This was successful and the wireless connection was setup again. However the same problem occured. when i attempted to do another system restore, the computer failed to boot. It turns on ok, but with a black screen showing a msg which says "initiating" some process, (sorry i forgot, ill post what it keeps saying when i get back home to the broken pc. )

The real problem i have now is when i went to my boot options, to do somthing like a reinstall, it asked for my admin password. This is normally no problem, but for some reason its not accepting my password, saying its invalid! I'm not sure if some virus has somehow changed my Admin password, because i am positive i am typing in the correct password!

I am locked out of my pc, unable to do any reinstall or anything Is there anyway i can restore my pc without losing the data? Even if i end up having to take it to some kind of pc repair shop, that would be preferable as there are some invaluable photos, documents etc. However i am a bit reluctant to give it over to someone else to repair it as the pc also some of my bank account details on there.

Is there any solution? Thanks in advance

It seems to me that XP's recovery console is somewhat better than the one that comes with Vista or 7, unless someone can point me in the right direction for finding further documentation on this topic.

The main difference is the lack of ability to tinker with services (LISTSVC / ENABLE / DISABLE commands). A missed opportunity is the lack of registry tweaking, considering that REGEDIT can be run, but I think it only allows you to look at the registry for the recovery console rather than the main Windows installation, which doesn't help much (though I haven't tried to import/mount the registry file from the main Windows installation).

Thoughts/suggestions?

A:XP recovery console versus Vista/7's recovery console

You can create a Window PE (Pre-installation Enviroment) disk which is a cut down version of Windows with a command line interface so that you can tinker with the OS.

I'm afraid we can't help you to circumvent restrictions on a computer, as whilst your query may be genuine, we have no way of knowing. I suggest you get in touch with the school that the computer came from and get them to format it.

OK guys, here's one for ya and so far none of my techie friends have come up with a solution.

I have an Acer 2012 WLMi laptop that unfortunately took a drink across its keyboard. I have purchased a new keyboard but unfortunately it does not work, all I can assume is that I fried the bridge.

I am unable to plug in a USB keyboard because I don't have administrator privileges, when I try, I am asked for the admin name & password, neither of which I can remember.

When I boot up, I get to the welcome screen and because I can't use the keyboard to log in as myself, I have to log in as a guest. When I then try to plug in any USB hardware, I'm told I don't have sufficient privileges.

I can't help but think that knowing Microsoft's cavalier attitude towards security, that there must be a way around this. Unfortunately neither my techie frinds nor I have found it yet.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated but please bear in mind: I CANNOT USE A KEYBOARD!

Thanks in anticipation.

A:Admin pass bypass - no keyboard available

Unfortunately we cannot assist you with bypassing the administrator password. The username would be administrator (unless you changed it) and the password defaults to no password unless you set one when windows was installed.

I've never been prompted for username/password when installing a USB keyboard, just plug it in before starting your PC up and see if it works (can you get into the BIOS with the USB keyboard?)

I have recently ran into an issue that is probably not too uncommon but I am having issues with. I currently forgot my password for my admin account on my laptop that runs on windows vista, i have looked up ways to bypass this issue and have ran into some issues along the way so first i looked up a password rescuer online but figured that i would have a hard time running it because my pass is more than 14 characters long. i also tried to run a system restore on it for an earlier time before i changed the password that i have currently forgot but an error keeps coming up due to a corrupted file on my c drive. all i want to do is gain access to my admin account so i can back up the files that are precious to me so i can run a factory restore on my computer then have it running clean again. Anyhow, I looked online for some other ideas and im currently reading and looking into ways to bypass the admin account by using a sticky keys trick the windows vista password or offline enabling the built in admin account on vista. The trouble that I am having is that i made it to where my files were viewable and accessable only through the admin account, does that mean they are encrypted? also would doing these tricks possibly delete my files or make them unaccessable? i also dont have a vista or windows setup dvd could i possibly do anything to bypass the admin account to keep my files, without the dvd? thank you so much, i know im in one heck of a pickle any help is very appreciated.

I recently got a hand-me-down Dell 6400 Inspiron Laptop from a company I work for and unfortunately, it's inaccessible with an admininstrator password that was set by a former employee. I've made several attempts by going into "safemode", but it is still giving me the same problem only this time, it has the previous person's user name and administrator link. I tried going in without a password using the administrator icon, but it's locked also and requires a password.

It's a little difficult reaching the person who used the laptop before me because I don't have current contact information. Hello,

Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?

BTW, I have a "Spotmau PowerSuite 2008" CD. Just mentioning this in case it might be of some use here. Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated

Hello;
My first post here, except for introducing myself. My problem is with my son's HP Pavilion a1130n. It is running Windows XP Media Center Edition. Awhile back, he was notified of some important Windows updates and started to install them. During the process, he lost his internet connection and was not able to complete the update. Consequently, when he tried to boot up the next time, the system would not boot. I don't know if there were any error messages displayed at this point, but what happened next is where the problem started. He, (not knowing enough about Windows recovery console), panicked, and after not being able to even boot into 'SafeMode', jumped right into a recovery operation. When he saw that the operation was going to restore to the same state as when he bought it, he panicked again about losing all his family photos and music, and unplugged the machine. Needless to say, the system is now completely unusable. I pulled his hard drive and connected it to mine, and with the help of a free recovery program (Piriform's 'Recuva'), i am able to see and recover all of his data. However, it is a tedious and time consuming process and I am wondering if there is any way to undo the damage he did and get it back to a bootable condition keeping all his data in place. Any help would be greatly appreciatd because he may not have his original restore disks. Thanks, in advance for your consideration.

A:Hoping to undo partial recovery operation (recovery console)

If you have the installation CD you can do a repair installation. This will not affect any of the data or applications.Boot the computer from the XP CD. You may need to change boot order in the BIOS so that the CD-ROM is the first device in the boot order. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R. To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. To setup Windows XP now and Repair Install , press ENTER. You do not want to choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R.Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair isn't one of the option end the installation, this will mean that you will need to do a fresh installation of XP.The repair will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot, the repair installation will continue after the reboot.

Hi,

I recently purchased a used HP Pavilion on craiglist. Unfortunately, the computer is full of bugs and viruses (ie pop ups and virus warning messages). In order to to clean the PC (ie remove files or download malware protection) I need admin username and password, but I don't have that and the gentleman I purchased the computer from does not know either.

Ive attempted to research methods to reset the computer and all methods have failed because I need admin credentials to reset the computer.

Is there a way to reset and erased the computer to its original factory settings? I also read I may need to buy a CD or download a rest to a cd or usb on another computer. Is there a reputable website to reset or refresh that is cheap or preferably free

I would like to allow the ability for our Information Security Team to access the console, but not be administrators in it (as they don't manage it, and don't know how it was set up, so I don't want them to have the ability to break it).

So far, it looks like there is just one group, the "admin" group.  Is there a way to give them access to only read the alerts, and not modify the configuration?

Does Sequel have a loadable Anmin Console (similar to Exchange Admin Console) that I can put on an admins desktop, so they can do some administrating from their desktop via a console, rather than remoting directly to the server ?

Hello weeplelations! I'm having trouble using the SMS 2003 Admin console with Vista. The Admin console works perfectly for about a day or two. After that, when I click on 'Collections', nothing appears. I need to use Vista because we are going to be deploying and supporting it this summer, but if I can't see the computers in Collections to connect to them, I'll have to go back to XP. Any patches or fixes out there? Is it something that needs to be done on the server side? Ayudenme por favor!

I will try to be as precise as possible and give as much info as I can, but I'm not sure what info is inconsequential and what isn't at this point. But, here goes...

For 2 weeks I have tried to outsmart whoever it is that has had complete remote access to my laptop but changing as many admin permissions and incoming/outgoing connections that I could find to keep them out.

A couple of days ago, I did a system restore to factory settings, thinking this would do it. It didn't; he was still there. He locked me out of all admin tools yesterday.

I have a system recovery disc made about a year ago, and put that in my CD drive tonight, thinking I could completely reformat the drive and wipe him out. However, at start-up, I pushed F2 and came up with a screen that said something about running the disc from E drive (I apologize for not be able to give you specific language but I never thought it would get this far with no progress). However, under the line showing the drive it was booting from, there was another line that started "DETECTHAL /REDIRECT " then went on to say something about "redirect name" and redirect path", none of which sounded legit to me. And considering that this intruder had created so many other fake error/info msgs already, I didn't want to take the chance of this being something else that he had stuck in there.

I backed out of that reboot and restarted. I've subequently tried to restart over a dozen times from the CD, bu... Read more

Please excuse my lack of computer talk.
I purchased a mobile connection usb stick and plugged it into my sons computer (this 1). The self installing software popped up, did its thing and I was suddenly online, no hassles. I then went to do the same on my old compaq laptop and the software starts to install then I get a pop up saying that it cant continue any further as you need Admin rights. There has never been a password set for admin and after several attempts I'm totally frustrated. Any help appreciated
