I have several macros I've written for Word VB, which all work fine. But I would like to make them only affect all pages after page 3 in my documents, so that these first three pages are never affected by all the operations carried out in the macros. So, I want Word to only look at pages 4 up to the document's last page(this number varies). How can I do this be, please?

I'm not a word vba'er so I can't be much help past that. The next question would be how to GoTo that page? If you can GoTo nextpage until you get to 4 but you could also loop count and get there? Maybe others can provide better info, this might be enough info to 'Google' intellegently.

Not exactly. You still have to create your webpage with plain old (X)HTML, but if you choose to add some behaviors to your website, you can do that in VB Script. The downside is that it will only work in Internet Explorer, whereas Javascript or ECMAScript will work in basically all browsers.

I developed a program in visual basic 6.0 and it works perfectly under Windows XP. When I try to run it on windows 7, some portions of it do not quite run as expected. All of the DLLs and other support files used by my application appear to be installed, but from what I?ve read this seems to be a common problem. Is there a workaround that might improve this?

I have nearly worn out my Google page trying to find any posts anywhere on this! I am trying to figure out how to use VB to allow my Access tables to learn and add extra items when something is input into a particular field more than once. It would save a lot of searching and sorting etc if this could be done, but I have not a clue how to start!!

I have developed a template which I need help on. I'm pretty new (read: inept beginner) to visual basic, so after faffing around for a while I have found some code which seems to work.

I am trying to achieve a collapsible table, so that when a plus/minus icon is clicked the table collapses and is no longer visible.

My problem is that I'm pretty sure the code I'm using is an extremely roundabout way of doing what I want. The other issue is that as I will be asking people to fill out the form and then send it back to me, I want to be able to protect it so that only certain fields can be filled out.

I have the protection set up the way I like it, however when the document is protected the macro then stops working (I'm assuming because the macro is set up to amend the table size, which the protection option is then restricting).

In short, could you help me with:
A) having a more efficient code in place
B) ensuring that the macro works when the document is protected.

I took a look at this out of curiosity but can't think of a way I'd do it.
Have you thought of Excel, I mean do you need the data in word, do you export the data to some database?

You could recreate the document in Excel and then have the macro's do their ework too.
You could include a data output and a PDF file that would show what has been entered.

I'm running into word issues too so I've abandonned my attempts and focused on Excel.

I'm trying to write a visual basic Marco for Word. I want the Macro to:

Search for each bold heading in my Word document and store the name of each heading as a dimension in an String.

Dim headingnames (1 to 100) as String
headingname (1) = first bold and central heading name in my document (e.g. "CHAPTER 1")
headingname (2) = second bold and central heading name in my document ("CHAPTER 2")

I just bought a new laptop running windows 8, downloaded and installed Excel 2007. I have the Developer tab active, did the Macro Security changes to allow activex, enable all macros etc., but the Record Macro, Visual Basic and Macros buttons are inactive. That is, they are not clickable. I updated to windows 8.1 - no joy! Otherwise the install of Excel 2007 seems okay. Spreadsheets from my old computer & a much older version of Excel open okay, formulas work, etc. The Macro issue is the only problem I am aware of at this point. The symptoms are the same on a new (blank) workbook or on an existing spreadsheet. Any suggestions? - I guess a re-install is my next option. Thanks in advance. Bob

I have a workbook with about 80 sheets in it. I need to give 80 people access to their respective worksheet without them being able to view the other data. I was thinking of creating an opening page that checks for a username and password and then redirects that users to his/her and only his/her worksheet. I need to update the data in the workbook on a monthly basis and all kind of formulas need to be performed so there is not much other way than doing this in Excel.
can I write something in Visual Basic that allows me to create this? I already found an article on UserForms on the Microsoft Support site that will get me started I guess, but then I still need all the underlying codes?
I need this for work so my time on research and creation is rather limited

When I open any Word 2007 document (in this case one entitled ?Word 2007 test document?), I am greeted with the following:

I need a visual basic macro for excel 2002 that will do the following:

From sheet1:ColumnA
Select rows until sheet1:columnA value does not start with REC (as the no of rows is unbalanced, sometimes 7 rows, sometimes 10 rows, sometimes 8 rows, etc)
copy selected rows and transpose to sheet2:columnA to however many rows were selected

Repeat until end last row
My real table has 30000 rows and the rows are unbalanced

I have a question about what I think is a macro, but it could be something else. What I want to do is - every time I open any .zip file, I would like a specific text file to open as well. I downloaded a program BytescoutPDFViewer.exe that opens a pdf file and saves the file (converts) to txt, Word, or html according to the button you click at the top of the page. The program does what I need done. The only problem is I have thousands of pdf files I want to convert with this program. The program is all mouse based as far as I can tell. I have looked at macro makers but all the macro maker programs require some kind of programming skill I do not possess. Even a macro would have to be adjusted to move down the screen to access different file names in a given directory (like Win Explorer).

Is there any way I can make the PDFViewer repeat over and over via some kind of outside program where the outside program also supplies a filename to be opened?

Or, is there any way the program can be automatically opened with an Office program like Excel?

Or, is there any way to just batch convert the pdf files into text files using a freeware program.

Well, there is the primitive way, and there is the sophisticated way.
I tell you how it's done in the primitive way.
Put a "Do" command to the beginning of the macro, and put a "Loop" command to the end of the macro.
When you hit the shortcut, the macro will run until no match is found, then stop with an error message.
This is good for a few-time use, for yourself. If you create an application for other users, however, the sophisticated way is recommended. It's the same Do...Loop cycle, plus a conditional exit from the loop. Something like:

If nomatch Then Exit Do

I most probably could do the coding, if you provide a sample text to test the modified macro on.

I frequently need to switch Firefox browser colors back and forth, from my system colors to a page's own colors and vice-verse: Tools > Options > Content > Colors > Allow pages to choose their own colors > OK > Tab > Tab OK [checking or unchecking "Allow pages to choose their own colors" depending on which I'm in and want to change from]

i am no programmer. Our accountant wrote us an excell sheet to handle client money and now thats its full they want loads more cash just to make more sheets. We are a small business and cant afford these costs

I have been able to work out how to add more sheets and spent some time adding from 25 to 50 sheets. This worked fine. Now we need more so i added up to 50 .

The code works but now it says compile error. procedure to large.

I have found this VBA macro that is supposed to copy numbers in a range over an indeterminate number of rows and 6 columns to a single column of the values excluding blank cells. In this case it copies all cells in A:F into column J

It does work, but it copies from right to left (eg starts at column F and finishes at Column A. Does anyone know how to make this work from column A to F instead? Or an alternative macro that will do that?

I have just bought a new keyboard with customisable hotkeys at the top.

I want some of these hotkeys to work as a macro i.e. it will (for example) allow me to click that key instead of clicking CTRL+SHIFT+DEL to clear my history in web browsers.
The button only allows a certain file to be opened, is there a file type which can do this?

For the most part I like and use the the "Let Windows choose" visual appearance settings which enables the transparent effects etc. However when I played Civ IV for example, a notification popped up saying that the application was not compatible with certain visual effects and would put Windows into the basic colour scheme appearance mode - it'd still "look" like Windows 7 just without the transparency, which is great. I can of course manually do this and make it "best performance" but...heh, it's ugly! It reminds me of Windows 98. What I'd like to do is set a particular application, in this case it's Civ V to also set my Windows appearance to this basic colour scheme mode when I load the game, in the hope it'll improve performance somewhat.

I've had a bit of a search around and haven't figured out how to do this - assuming that I can. So in terms of the reply below, thanks Jerry, one option is to set up a theme and choose this each time before I play. Though that's not automatic hehe.

Er yes, it should already be a button on the tool bar as well. Mouse over the buttons till you see one called "Comment out the selected lines" or something similar. If you don't find it, right click the tool bar and make sure the "Edit" tool bar is shwing first. If not, enable it and look there. If you still cant find it, right click and "Customize" and look through the buttons on the "edit" group of buttons for "Selection Comment" and "Selection Uncomment" and add them to your tool bar.

I have several queries that I run daily to update sales, shipments, etc. How do I set up a macro to run a make table query and then export the table to another access database? (The query deletes the records already in the table before re-populating.) If possible, I would prefer to not open the query, just run it. hi my name is danny and my internet explore wont make web pages available offline i click on favorites and put a check in the check box and after it synchronizing it says complete but when i go offline im not able to view that web page please tell me what's wrong.

i went through the motions, to set out for you.
This is what i do, it works for me.

open IE,
click on the favourites,
Find the page you want,
give it a click and bring it up,
then right click that entry,
that should bring up a little menu,
choose 'Make available off line',
you should then get the 'Offline Favorite Wizard',
Choose 'Next' and it shows the name and url,
'Next' again for 'only when i ask',
'Next' again if you want a password,
'Finish' to complete.

You may have done this, its not clear,
you will have to be connected for the page to be
downloaded when you make it available off line.

You will have to open IE to view the stored page.

I havent been able to get some pages with Java
programs to become available. Apparently some pages
with Java programs are deliberately made to refuse
to operate off line.
If anyone knows how to make them work, i would be
most interested.

hello to all.

my internet is being disconnected tomorrow as im fed up with virgin, will be off for about a week. but anyway going back a good few years, on win 95 internet explorer i believe, there was a simple option, make page available offline and job was a good one.

im running firefox beta 5 at the mo, seems to support large lcds much better than any other version (jabberring sorry), but only thing i have found so far is the ability to save one page at a time, almost as tedious as print screen!!

anyone have a quick fix please. thank you

Under SETTINGS check the Screen resolution, move the slider and see if that changes the pages.

But some sites seem to do that for some reason, that you have to scroll left and right, is it just one place or all pages and websites that this is happening? And how do your programs show? Are they fully visible?

One of my computers runs Vista Home Basic. For convenience, I had it set to automatically run Windows Update. I've got cable Internet connection.

A few weeks ago, I started to get VERY SLOW response time on the web on this computer. My older computer runs XP, and wasn't effected. I use both Firefox and IE. I'd click on a link to a website, and wait 30seconds to 1 minute or more for the site to come up. All the non-internet applications I use seemed to work properly.

I reloaded software, defragged, swapped out memory (I have 1gb RAM), swapped network connections (both computers are hard wired to the Internet through a router), etc. to no avail.

Then, I decided to do a System Restore to a restore point from about 2 weeks earlier. VOILA! Worked fine. However, I didn't turn off the automatic Windows Update. As soon as it updated, I had the same problem, so I re-restored and turned off Automatic Updates.

Anybody else have this problem? Have any idea which of the many updates may be giving me the problem? I don't mind doing updates manually, but I really don't want to go thru the process of loading the updates one-by-one to determine which one is giving me the problem. That would take like forever. Whether I do the updates automatically or manually doesn't matter to me, but I do want to keep the operating system updated.

Common ones are FrontPage and Dreamweaver.

often while creating the pdf of a website, the formatting gets lost. we get a dull formmatted pdf.

I am running windows 7 ultimate (32 bit) edition and IE9. When I want to save a webpage I use this procedure;
1. LC on IE9 Menu Bar on File;
2. LC on "Save as", IE9 automatically defaults to "save as" option "Webpage Complete .htm/html option.
3. I have to manually select "Web Archive, single file .mht" format option, the LC on save.
4. Sometimes [in the same session] IE9 will remember to save as "Web Archive, single file .mht" format option, but if you change webpages it reverts back to the default "Webpage Complete .htm/html option.
5. A separate problem is getting IE9 to have a default save as location as it changes between various folders. I would like to make the default location as my desktop.
What I want to do is have some method of setting my default save as option similiar to what MS Word will let you do, under the following option;
>>>>File > Help > options > save > save files in this format.

I use the .mht format as it can be opened in any version of "Word" and I can edit the file including changing font type and size to suit me.

So I know this should be very easy. I have a 285-page novel manuscript I'm formatting for submission. I have page numbers that start on the 3rd actual page, which is where Chapter 1 begins. I have a header but it only appears on those first two pages; it stops before Chapter 1. How do I have the header appear on every page of the doc? I googled it but it's confusing....it took awhile to get the page numbering right, because I wanted it to start where it does....I'm afraid if I mess with the header as it is, I'm in for more frustration. A simple step-by-step would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi. I just want to know if there is a hack that will make the print spooler start in safe mode. I'm using Windows Vista 64 bit. If there is no hack currently, could someone tell me of an easy way to create one? I know there was one for xp, but it didn't work for Windows Vista. Thanks.

I have recently changed my browser from Chrome to Edge. With Chrome I had a Gmail Notifier icon showing when I opened my mail program. From this I had an option to have a sound play when incoming emails arrived. (Options/Notifications/Default Sound Notification/User Defined Sound/Browse) and then I could choose my sound. With Edge, I cannot see a Gmail Notifier and as a result am unable to set a choice of sound to notify me of new mail. I have downloaded Gmail Notifier but can't find a way around my problem. Any help would be appreciated.

A user created a policy form template (word .dot) with fields that can be tabbed/filled out. She wants the user to be able to fill out the form then be able to insert a blank copy of the same form (repeat page 2) at the end of the document. They want this for user who has to create mulitple polilcies.

I can't figure out how it can be done in the template which is attached in the zip file. Could possibly be done in Acrobat but not sure. Any ideas?

Previously when I was using Windows 7, the system restore points were created automatically whenever I installed a new SW or made other similar system change. But it seems not the case in Win 8 any more.

I am a SW developer. Although I normally test our SW on virtual machines, but some other time I just install part of it directly on the development machine. The SW of course might have some problem. Today when I tried to restore my system to a status right before I installed the problem SW, I just found out that I don't have these restore points. The system indeed created some restore points automatically, but those don't seem to cover all the changes I made to the system. Is there a way to configure it? Thanks!

Maybe your restore point disk space allocation is inadequate to hold all restore points that might be created automatically. My record of restore points implies that restore points are being created for all SW installations, but the record does not go very far back in time.

Ghost, let me make sure before I make things worse.

If I add a second hard drive temporarily as a "slave" and use Ghost to clone the master to the slave, am I correct in assuming the following:

if I have problems with the original hard drive, I could reformat the drive add the "ghosted" drive as a slave and with Ghost transfer the "cloned" info to the original HD?

if I had imaged instead of cloned I could do the same as above?

If my assumptions are not correct or if there is a better way what should I do?

P.S. I do not want to leave the slave drive in the machine.

I guess the bottom line is what is the easiest way to get info back on the original hard drive using ghost on a Windows 98 machine with a floppy and CD-ROM?

My Dlink Wireless router has failed and I was wondering if a different brand, such as,Ativa, or Linksys or any other brand other than Dlink will work with my Dlink computer cards I have?
I have had a couple of Dlinks to fail and was wondering about changing brands.

"parts are parts".......any brand will work with another but it is best to macth brands if you need to call Tech Support. They will just blmae the problem on the other device.
