UPS questions

Q: UPS questions

What kind of a battery does a UPS have ??
Would it work to power something other than a computer ..
Like the power brick for my Sony DCR SX63 Camcorder ??

Iím thinking that if it has a Gell Cell Battery ... The Amp/Hour rating will be a lot longer at the lower power consumption.

Anybody ever used a UPS for something other than a computer ??

Preferred Solution: UPS questions

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: UPS questions

Well I have two UPS and they both use a 7AH 12volt sealed battery. If you want to get specs on the battery it is a bp7-12. One of my UPS uses 2 of these batteries in series,(24 volt) the other smaller one uses only one. I have used the small one as a stand alone power pack for small electronics on a short term basis.

1. Ran out of this space in my Q:Lenvovo - backup assigned partition.  14GB.  (My C: drive has 80GB free!) How can I fix this?  Is there a way to expand the partition without deleting it first?  Does Lenvovo or Microsoft or SSD manufacturer have a tool to do this where you just enter the amount you want to expand a partition to and it will adjust the other partition accordingly?  If not; I cannot delete the Q:Lenovo drive using file explorer or disk cleanup utility.  How do I remove at the original backup?  When I go to disk cleanup it shows blank the files; so it is a hidden file or subdirectory.  I even try signing on as System Administratin but forgot the password I created, it been so long ago and never use it.  LOL!   If I cannot do any of this:  There is an option to do a Windows 10 refresh but can you redirect it to a new SSD from the existing SSD? 2. Looking to get a new SSD but in NVMe configuration. a. Does my L450 support NVMe boot up? What type of NVMe does my Thinkpad support?  I thinking of getting the Samsung 860 Evo.b. Is connecting the new NVMe and running transfer SSD software the Windows 10 will recognize the drives and do the transfer?    Serial NumberF0ATPKGPart Number: 20D5503800 Thanks for any help you can give in this matter!

I'm thinking about building my own PC, but I don't quite understand what anti-static precautions should be taken. Obviously, nothing will be plugged in, but is there anything I'm missing or not understanding?
Also, are anti-static wrist bands essential? Also, would carpet work as a good working area?

I have a
HP Pavilion dv7t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC
64bit with Windows Vista Home premium
Recently I had a friend take it and wipe it to start fresh.
when I got it back it is still pointing to a bizarre path..?? (which is one of the reasons I wanted to start fresh. It points to:

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\Power2Go;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\

why would this be the case? When I got it back I see that some things like my extra monitor was already installed.. (Before I even hooked it up??) and some folders I had renamed example folder.OLD was still here. (and many other things that lead me to believe it did not get formatted correctly. (and could still have virus?)
He used my factory disks. (which I do have)
can anyone advise me on what is going on?
thanks so much!!

A:Environment Variables questions and format questions

I've had a bunch of HP machines. But I never used the restore. I'm not sure if it formats or just installs over what's there. It may leave files and folders that are in subfolders of programs that come bundled with the machine assuming it's data or something. The path looks fine to me. That %SystemRoot% stuff is just a way to use environment variables in case the system is not installed on C:\Windows.

If you really just want the OS and not the bundled software see the threads about ISO download for Vista. You can evaluate for 90 days perfectly legally. There are also tutorials how to extend the evaluation by 30 days.

Brand new user.

a. The new PC came with McAfee anti virus.
Should I use it ?

Is it as good as AVG, e.g., which I used on my old W7 PC ? Use them both ?

b. And, how do I turn on the "Defender" anti virus which I understand is part of
the W10 package ?

Would it interfere with McAfee or AVG ? How good is it ?

c. How do I turn on the Firewall; I'm assuming there is one like in W7 ?

Much thanks,

A:New W10 User Questions (Basic Questions, Please)

McAfee, AVG and Defender are all anti-virus programs and you should only run one. In fact Defender will get turned off when another one is installed.

Right click the Start button and select Control Panel.

Then select Security and Maintenance and under Security it will show your the status of the Firewall, Virus and Spyware and which program is running what.

Control panel also has links to Defender and Firewall.

That McAfee is a trial version and at some point you will have to buy it.

Hey guys, you might of seen a post or two about me not able to get our domain to use GPO's, but its all fixed now. YAY !
(It was the DNS, incase anyone was interested)

but now i got a few questions, i'll start with:

1. Is there anyway to configure a client by just having them log onto the domain? e.g. Disable Security Center, Windows Messanger, Add a Registry hack. etc.

2. Is there anyway to view a list of all websites visited on the network with information, eg. Who was looking at it(which user), at what time. etc

3. Is there a way to record a list of all objects printed from our print server with information? e.g. User that printed it, time it was printed, how many pages, how many copys. etc.

4. Is there a way to delete start menu files/folders with a logon script?

5. I'm going to put "Deep Freeze" on the computers that are accessed and used by the public, but i've never used it, nor have any experience with it.
Does it cause any problems with normal operation of the computer? if anyone could give me some feedback on this, i'd love to hear it.

Also, is it possible to get more then just 6 Virtual Drives on a computer?

i mean, isn't there 23 possible drives?

I have a Packard Bell P133, model D135. Eight megs of
RAM are on the motherboard. According to a search of
this model on a 'Memory' website, this model has FPM non-
parity memory. The machine had two 4-MB modules installed
when it was new in 1996, for a total of 16 MB at time of purchase.
Since then, I have added two 8MB modules to bring it up to
32MB. Two weeks ago, I replaced the two 4MB modules with
two 32MB FPM modules, which was supposed to bring it up to a total of 88MB. When I boot up, it only reads slightly over 81MB as passed....of course, on the System Properties 'General' tab, 80MB is listed. Can anyone tell me what might have happened to the other 8MB?

Another question: Would parity memory be compatible with
non-parity memory? I know from research, that most servers use parity memory...parity being described as a feature of
a module for error-checking. Would parity memory work OK with non-parity, but not the other way around? The reason I ask is, I have an opportunity to buy some used 72-pin, FMP parity modules at a good price, and I just wanted to know if the two (parity and non-parity) would mesh. I wanted to bring it up to the max for this model....136MB, providing the 8MB on-board memory is read. That was my own theory about the missing 8MB....that the on-board memory, for some reason isn't being read. Any thoughts on this?

modules in one bank work with 60ns modules in another ... Read more

Hey guys, just have a few questions in regards to Vista x32 vs x64 as well as Direct x10 issues when it comes to gaming.

First off - What benefits do I get by running Vista x64 as opposed to x32 when it comes to gaming. I bought Call of Duty 4 as well as Bioshock, and will be buying some of the new games coming out such as Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 2. Are any of these games 64 bit games?

Second off - Do I get any benefit playing a game made for DirectX 9 on a DirectX10 platform? Or are the graphic increases only visible in games actually made for DirectX 10? Again, are any of the games I listed above made to work with better graphics in DirectX 10?

Thanks guys!

A:32/64 bit questions & DirectX 9/10 questions :)

I discovered your inquiry while I was attempting to answer questions similar to yours.

This isn't much help but try reading about Epic Game's 'Unreal' game engine. I'm reading the article on wikipeadia about this game engine. This is the game engine used for Gears of War and Unreal Tournament.

Any way, it seems that if your running the game in a 64-bit environment like Windows Vista 64 the game will be in 64-bit mode.

It uses Directx 10 and Directx 10 also seems to be in 64-bit mode depending on weather Windows is in 64-bit mode.

In related news, it seems that the 'Unreal' game engine and the 'Source' game engine (Used for Half life 2, etc) are optimized to take advantage of multi-threading or in other words optimized for multi-core processors.

Anyway, see what conclusions you come to...I'll post an update as I learn more.

Couple of odd things happening with AOL9.0 and XP SP2.....

1. Attachments (Word, Excel or images) received in AOL mail can't be downloaded. When clicking the download button nothing happens. I've changed the setting so that it allows images but that didn't sort it. Problem began after updating to SP2. AOL help desk don't know the answer!!!

2. AOL doesn't recognise the firewall and anti virus programs. It says on the front page that they're not there. The firewall is XP's own and the anti virus is e-trust. Is it just that AOL doesn't recognise these programs ands therefore doesn't know they're there?

I've been writing about this elsewhere as part of a hacker thread, but thought I'd ask separately in a more specific way.

Starting yesterday, when I went online and my AOL AIM box (I have downloaded, and don't have AOL as an ISP) comes up, I get a message (asking me to accept) from AOL. It says my username is open "elsewhere". I clicked on the link for more info and it says that anything sent to my username will go to BOTH boxes. Wherever the other open one is.

I changed my username and deleted that one and it was fine from last night, during today, but late this afternoon when I went online, and the AIM box came up (new username) once again I got a message from AOL, that the NEW username was also open elsewhere.

I've run virus scans, (online ones recomended on this site) HOUSECALL and another (trojan) one, and nothing is infected.

I've run Spybot and Adaware.

I posted Hijack this log yesterday and it was seen as "okay".

Could the AOL thing just be something (a glitch) on their side?

It said it could be if I have AOL for a server, AND an AOL AIM box downloaded and both open, but as I said I don't have AOL for a server only the download.

I'm thinking someone got in my computer in some way, and is scanning to get my username/password. Is this possible?

My daughter has a computer upstairs, with AIM downloaded, too, we share the internet connection (not a network) and can't go on at the same time. I had her tak... Read more

1) Is Firefox generally considered to be better than IE?
2) If I decide to switch over to Firefox, is there a REALLY simple way to move my IE bookmarks there?

A:2 Questions

I would say FF is different than IE7. Better maybe in that it is so customizable with extensions but on the same hand one has to be careful not to go nuts and turn FF into a big ponderous pig. FF3 is getting high marks so far, apparently having corrected a lot of the problems there were with FF2.

In FF2 and presumably in FF3, its as simple as File>>Import>>Internet Explorer settings and bookmarks.

When i first got my PC everything was running great in vanguard water looked normal everything looked fantastic. Then stupid me i downloaded and installed video drivers over already installed videodrivers.

I uninstalled all the video drivers and the evga disk that went with my 8800 GT i tried installing display drivers off of that and it says cant find hardware compatable with mine so i downloaded the drivers straight from the nividia site the newest ones i think 169.25. So any way now when i play vanguard everythings rather ugly the water is really ugly like its either milky white or bright blue, settings are maxed in game. Though i played bioshock and oblivion and everything was fine. Only problem with oblivion is that the shadows would move very fast and flicker like peoples shadows.

Any one know a good display driver i should download to go along with a 8800 GT 512 mb i also have vista 32 bit. One more thing i have windows vista but its a recovery disk i also have a windows xp operating gateway CD. Is it possible i can reinstall xp with that disk? I tried it before but i couldnt get any internet access with XP enabled.

Hi there!

I just had my hard drive wiped by the *badwords* at Best Buy. Anyway, they delete MSN 9.0 off my computer. So now i use MSN explorer to connect to the internet.

Which brings me to question one. Where can i get MSN 9.0 dail-up? I lost the disc (again) and google doesn't give me anything. Please tell me i can download it somewhere cause i don't want to have to wait for another disc... I don't even know how i got them to send me a disc...

Question 2. How do i get MSN to not log me off after a certain amount of time? At first i could only stay on for about 5-6 hours. Then it went to 10-12 hours. Now after the wipe its back to 5. And i did nothing to change it the first time...

Question 3. What extensions do you recommend for Firefox?

Question 4. How do i get the Function key on my Sony Viao Laptop to work again? I guess they wiped the "whatever-it-is" that makes it work too...

I think that'll do for now

i thank you in advance for your help (you know, if you do help >.>)

okay, i guess they aren't all about MSN, but i figured i'd... whatver i'm tired

I've recently discovered my router has QoS capabilities. However I'm unsure as to what I should enable, disable, add or edit. Below I'll attach a screenshot of my interface so to make better reference & understanding of the questions I need answered.

1: Should I check on Enable QoS (Optimized for Gaming) & what should I set its rate at?

2: Is there a way to change the priority of devices via Setup QoS rule?

In short my over-all goal is to have it set so my wired device & what I do has priority over wireless ones. Currently its the exact opposite which doesn't feel right. If a wireless laptop using my internet connection is browsing YouTube, its videos will buffer fine while mine struggle to even load a few seconds.

You can give certain programs priority ie a specific game or a services like ftp if you give priority to gaming it will take preference to thing like email browsing etc. You dont give make model or router so its hard to know what its capable of

I have been hearing about the term VPN - for many years, I have also tried it for a couple of time with my iPhone. Seriously I want to know - What is VPN actually is?? Virtual Proxy Network ?? What's different of it from proxies??
What is the reason of using VPN?

I have some serious reasons to change my IP address so as to look like as someone else and to protect my computer information. Within the past two years my confidential information of two different credit cards had been stolen (while physical cards were never stolen or lost) . I almost always buy from websites that could be trusted totally, and I don't buy so often (once every two months on average) but the rate of such problems are considered to high (2 in 2 years)

Would VPN or anything like that help?

A:VPN questions

Vpn isnt a proxy it means you connect directly to another server which then connects to the internet all traffic between you and the server is secure, a proxy you connect but traffic is open and the proxy caches data for speed. People think they are hidden behind a vpn but they are not as recent cases were hackers have been convicted proves. The simplest option is to use tor browser as that goes via lots of servers all over the world its slower due to this but not traceable the same

Hi again folks:
I have a couple of questions regarding my ISP.
The first is can I have two ISP's on one pc?

The other question is about a specific ISP. I want to switch to SysMatrix.Net. It's only $10/month which is $8 cheaper than CoreComm-the one I am using now. I want to try both at the same time to compare before getting rid of the more expensive one. So is anyone out there using SysMatrix.Net and how is it?

I guess there is one other question...Can I have two email address accounts on one pc using Outlook Express in Win98se?

A:Questions regarding ISP...

yes you can have 2 isp's on your pc. Can have as many as you want. You can also have e-mail addresses from all of them, all in outlook express if you want, all under one identity if you want (will be confusing) or give them seperate identities.
Am in UK so can't comment on the specific isp you mention

I'm thinking to get a new system and I was thinking if I could use the windows that I got with my present system purchase, can I? note that I didn't get any windows disks, the system came pre installed.
Also I'm wondering if I can use the key from my present installation on separate windows 7 installation? if yes, where/how do I find the key?

About the new system, I'm thinking to get: Notebooks & Ultrabooks | X555LF | ASUS Global , the i3 version with the following specs:

Processor Speed 2.10 GHz, 3M Cache Processor Intel Core i3 5th Gen 5010U Storage 1 TB SATARAM 4 GB Graphics card NVIDIA? GeForce? 930M with 2GB DDR3 VRAM
Is it good? I'm thinking get another 4gb as in use 2x 4gb ram 1600mhz and repalce the 1TB HDD with a 256 SSD

What would be the performance differenace between this system (ASUS X555LF, i3 5th gen) and my present system (Dell Studio XPS L502X, i7 2nd gen, 8gb), I did some research and found this: PassMark - CPU Performance Comparison[]=878&cmp[]=2467 .. this is a comparison between my present processor and the new i3 one, ... any insights?

A:Various questions

The i3-5010u scores 3029 on that benchmark. I can't tell the score on the i7 you have because you didn't provide enough info. Most i7s will score higher than most i3s, but if all you are doing with the PC is email and browsing, you probably wouldn't notice the difference.

If the score differences were say only 1000 points, you might not notice it.

You might be better off just putting an SSD in the old machine or buying a new i5 rather than an i3. That might be more likely to make a difference.

What are you trying to do with the old machine that it doesn't do well enough?

Generally speaking--you can't move a Windows license to another machine unless it's a "retail" license. The Windows that comes pre-installed from the factory isn't going to be retail. Think of it as "one license---one machine". Even if you had a retail license, it would be "one license--one machine at a time"--which would mean you could move it to another as long as the older machine is no longer in use.

I have 2GB DDR3 RAM on my laptop at the moment, I was thinking about getting 1 or 2 GB RAM added to my laptop. I'm planning to add more, as CPU is constantly hitting nearly 1.5gb ram with very few applications opened.

I have some basic questions, (they may be silly in nature too), I would appreciate if my doubts could be cleared.

1. I haven't upgraded my RAM before on laptop, in case if I get a new laptop in future, can I use this added RAM on my new laptop (if I plan to use it, or is it recommended to add a new RAM only on the system ?)

2. Is there a difference between PC and Laptop "RAM" or can they be used commonly among both ?

3. Is CPU speed an factor in adding more RAM ? Will there be any sort of conflicts because of it ?

1.It can be used if the same type, DDR2, or DDR3, from your not filled out specs I think you have DDR2 now.

2. Yes, desktop RAM is a module twice as big. Laptop RAM is SODIMMs, Small factor Dual inline memory module. Desktops use DIMMs.

3. The CPU doesn't limit RAM, however the manufacturer will have placed a limit on it. Check your manual for upgrade options. It is best to buy a RAM kit, they will be matched SODIMMs and work better, mix and match RAM is not recommended.

i have unused boxed versions of AVG antivirus/antispyware 8.0 and AVG antivirus 2012.
As far as the 2012 goes, I know I can install it but does AVG allow you to upgrade to the current version while under valid subscription?  If so, would i install 2012 and then upgrade or would i install the latest version and use the 2012 key?
Is the 8.0 a lost cause (for XP and Vista) at this point or can I use the key with a more current version?

Since this is a current thread and I basically have the same types of concerns/questions as the thread-starter regarding the use of ADWCleaner, I am going to post here. Hope I'm not using too poor of board etiquette.
So, just real quickly, are these HKLM Chrome Extensions files/folders anything to worry about?  They seem odd to me because of the long and random looking letter suffixes. Should I delete these?
I'm just nervous after hearing about mals using fake Chrome extensions lately.
(Also, see question about third image below.)
The one that really threw me was this file called "END".  I found a few discussion links on it but nothing difinitive. Is it dangerous?  Should I remove it?

Thanks for any helpful thoughts!
Oh, and I am a Windows 8.1 user.
P.S. My machine checked out OK on Emsisoft, Norton IS, and MalwareBytes earlier today. Machine seems to be running great and is not showing any typical symptoms of infection.

The trick here is to Google the extensions name (these random strings of characters) and then see if they extensions are malicious or not. Since I'm lazy (or not really), I can do this for you, but I would ask you to provide me the AdwCleaner scan log, so I don't have to enter manually every extensions. Follow the instructions below to do so.AdwCleaner - Scan ModeDownload AdwCleaner and move it to your Desktop;Execute AdwCleaner, accept the EULA (I accept) then click on Scan;Credits : MalwareExperts.comLet the scan complete. Once it's done, click on the Report button to open the scan log;Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

Mod Edit:  Split from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576054/firewall-logs/ - Hamluis.
I am having recent firewall issues. I have noticed that my local machine was using port 17 & 6 a LOT, and I was getting warnings from my uverse router. I have gone into my norton, and shut down those two ports on my local machine, but it still looks like something is trying to ping my PC. I have run almost every malware program known to man, downloaded a ton from this (awesome!) website, and it isn't finding anything.
I am new to the formum. I have saved all of this in a .xls. I am hoping I can get it to an expert, they can take a look at it, and tell me if it is benign, or do I need to nuke my HD and rebuild.

You can post those logs, so we can take a look.

One way to tell, Look at the image I attached anything Intel will show VEN_8086If it shows a different VEN_ number try the Broadcom one.I too have that model and that VEN but the intel installer from HP reports back no intel card. The little program from Piriform indicates no ethernet cards. Bios indicated the onboard ethernet is active and available to the OS. Perhaps I will try Ubuntu Live... but I do need XP. Any ideas?

First thing to do is make sure the Port is good.

Trying the Ubuntu Live should tell you if the Ethernet port is working or not.

Can you post the entire line that shows the Ven information.
For example one computer here shows PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1019&SUBSYS_02A71014&REV_00\4&2D894BD&0&0818

I'd like to see the whole line.

Some fantastic advice here! But I think the point that's being lost isn't HOW, but SHOULD. I'm getting this same error, and this:

...makes me very suspicious of whether or not this is something I even want on my computer. Ads? Some site called "firstimpwins"? I'm not worried that some adware is struggling to get its software installed on my computer. I'm more concerned about how to scrub away what appears to be an incomplete installation in the first place. SOMETHING keeps triggering this install attempt.

It does sound like you have been infected. I'm not sure with what and I'm not qualified to assist you with trying to clean it out.
What is your installed security program, is it current and have you run any scans?

Hi I have two question, is kazaa still free or do you have to pay to download from their site. and second question is winamp full version free or do you have to pay for it? I am using winamp to burn cds. Thanks.

Yes, Kazaa is still free (last I checked!)

Most folks on this site would recommend using www.kazaalite.com instead of Kazaa due to spyware issues with Kazaa.

I have used both and prefer Kazaa Lite.

I also use Winamp to rip/burn .mp3 files to .wav. Winamp3 is the latest version, and it is free.

Have fun!

I found a thread in Spybot Search and Destroy that helps you to identify which items are unprotected.  For me it relates to Opera, which you stated that you did not have.  I added Opera just a few days ago, so to my surprise when I ran Spybot today, for the first time, I was unable to protect all of my items.
Go to the following web address: https://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?70530-Immunization-NOT-complete-193-still-unprotected
To identify the unprotected items, after running Immunization, in the lower right hand corner, select Show Details, and it shows which items are Unprocessed, Unprotected, Protected, and Total.  Again, for me, mine showed Opera 7+ as 193 Cookies Unprotected.  I tried the steps mentioned on this web page but still no success.  If and when I find a solution, I will report it here.
I am also using the free versions of: Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit; Malwarebytes Anti-Malware; SpywareBlaster; SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition and Windows Defender.  I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and have not had any issues with it.
One more thing, should you upgrade to Windows 10, Spybot will want to upgrade to version 2.5.  If you use only Windows Defender as your Anti-Virus, you need to disable an item in Spybot or else your Windows Defender will stop working - Sel... Read more

Hello, I have a reason to believe I could possibly be infected by a RAT or some other virus by someone I play an online game with. I think it may have been a java drive by or trough skype as an image file.
1. Could working youtube links as in they sent me links to watch a few videos off youtube that actually went to the site and worked give me a RAT from them? Maybe infected my browser? I know this sounds a bit silly so maybe not?
2. They sent me an image file they was downloaded to my computer. It wasn't an .exe file but an actual image could they have hidden a RAT in it somehow?
3 Or could they possibly have done something as we connected during the call? IP address?
4. I would like to just do a system restore on my computer. Can a RAT attach itself to the files i would like to save. Family photos, videos, game saves, music ont my ext. hd. I just don't want to infect another computer or my computer after I do a system restore.
These probably seem like very ignorant questions but I am concerned.

Hi and some good advice for a RAT Remote Access Trojan (infected computer )........
I don't believe you fully understand the scope of having a RAT:
A backdoor severely compromises system integrity.
A compromised system may allow illicit network connections, disabling of security software, modifying critical system files and collection and transmiission of personal identifiable information without your consent.
I recommend that you disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately, and only reconnect to download any tools that are required.
NOTE : If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or it if it contains any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

I have the same problem.
I don't know what happened but all the files under C drive in Windows Explorer are pdb files. I can not see any of the old folders in the explorer tree.
I don't know what to do to fix this and  I am about worn out trying to get windows to work anyway. I have recently reinstalled a new Windows 7 Ultimate. It worked fine, then this. The other drives on the computer work fine. The Windows explorer shows folders just fine for them. Only the C drive (the boot driver that has the extensions and files there are over 4000 of them.)
I worked with was installing Windows 7 SP1 and trying to update Windows. This was the most recent thing I tried to do the computer works fine I just cant see any folders in the Explorer Tree any more, every file is a pdb file.
If anyone could help I would be most grateful
thank you

I have two questions:

1. I currently have a functioning laptop with Win 7 64Bit. I also have a complete set of recovery discs as well as a system repair disc.

If I were to obtain another laptop could I use my discs and install my current Win 7 on the new laptop?

If so, then I could install a backup cloned HDD in the new laptop and have everything already set up as I prefer without customizing and installing all my software again.

This might also allow me to buy a laptop with Win 8 and replace it with my Win 7.

2. I have cloned my SSD onto an HDD using EaseToDo sotware. Can that HDD be used in another computer?

Only if it was the exact same pc. Or maybe even the same manufacturer, you`d have to experiment.
