File destination name 2 long & mulitple songs in media player

Q: File destination name 2 long & mulitple songs in media player

Wasn't sure where to post this and it is a 2 part different questions. I decided to come here because everyone here is far more helpful then over on the microsoft site. Your lucky to get an answer over there.

My first question is I am modding my sims 2 game. I use to be able to copy the file into my downloads folder no problem. I did an update a few days ago and now all of a sudden as I am copying them I get file destination name is to long for the folder. How in the world do I fix this? I have renamed them and it helps but it sucks doing it when I never had the problem before.

Next question I asked on the microsoft forums over a week ago and no answer. My media player has doubles of each album. It really sucks when I am listening to my media player and have to listen to the album twice. I tried taking them out resetting it and at first it only put the first one and then sure enough it redoubled them. I don't know if it is because I have itunes. How can I fix this please? Is it because of itunes? Is it something I just have to live with and choose to use itunes or media player and not have both?

Thank you for your time and sorry for the 2 part question and if I posted it in the wrong place.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys,I have get this message while coping the files from one External HDD to another. I found this solution, You cannot back up a file in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7 if the path length is longer than 260 characters
but it is only for previous version of Windows OS. How to fix this on win 8 x64? The file sysytems on both HDDs are exFat.

When I've seen this message it is because the path length is too long. Have you tried moving the target location to a folder that has a shorter path length
for example

I have a external my book fat32 formated and a new mybook ntfs formated external as well.  Now when I copy my files from the fat32 to the ntfs external all files copy fine but some give that destination location file characters are too long, meaning that the file names are too long.  Now I could change the file names but that would conflict with programs that need that file name.  I am using vista ultimate and would like to copy all the files over from the fat32 to ntfs so I can reformat the fat32 to ntfs.  The files got on the ntfs from a simple drag and drop from my IDE NTFS internal hard drive. I hope you guys to tell me what to do. Thank you :)

Sorry if this is a repeat post but I?ve found so much about this issue that I?m bewildered & haven?t found a Fix. I?m 65 & legally blind so searching the net isn?t as easy as it used to be.
I have one of a kind Family pics that if lost are gone forever so I back them up on 2 ext HD?s in case 1 HD goes bad.
I keep getting the error message; File Name(s) Would Be Too Long for the Destination Folder.
Does anyone have a fix for this or at this point I would be willing to buy an easy to use program.
Thanks in advance, Mike.

How do you read by the way if you're blind? Are text on screen (websites, error messages) be spoken? Very interesting to know. And how do you type?

Hi All,

I am experiencing problem,, when trying to copy folders and files to a further drive, as certain filed are not copied, but a message is received saying : "The file name(s) in the destination would be too long for the destination folders. You can shorten the file name, or try a location that has a shorter path".
Both suggestions given in the message do not practically work for me / wil be impractical, as this involves more than 100 files and folders. Previous suggestions i found on some blogs, where to download a windows update from Nov 2014, and to install a hotfix for this problem (for windows 7 though only !). Both did not work. Please give further advise as available, e.g. is there a similar hotfix for windows 8 or windows 8.1 ?

Thanks for your time and help,

A:The file name(s) would too long for the destination folder

Historically files were named in an 8.3 convention, 8 characters for the name, the period/dot and up to 3 characters for the extension. With the advent of Windows 95 we got LFN/Long File Names that could be up to 255 characters. With the 8.3 the root of a drive could hold up to 512 files, adding Directories [renamed to Folders since Win95] allowed many more files to be in the Folders. With the LFN system the total files allowed in the root of a drive was reduced to about half because both types of file names had to be saved. The limit on LFN length applies to both the root of a drive and a Folder on the drive. All this is pretty basic, can get more complicated.

I have Windows 7 and the latest version of Windows Media Player. When I drag the slider to any point of a large, high quality video file, it takes a long time for the video to play at that spot. I understand that it may take a second or two because of the video quality but it may take up to a minute or more. Keep it mind that these are files on my laptop, not a stream or anything connected to the internet.

I have an AMD Athlon Neo x2 Dual Core Processor on a HP dm3z laptop if that helps. The card isn't really top of the line but I don't think it should take this long to skip through videos, regardless.

Is there a way to tweak the settings or have any necessary codecs to avoid these long waits?

Hi
Please help!! First time on a forum to fix my pc, a bit of a novice!
I was cleaning up pc removing programs rarely used, deleted tracks i never listen to from media player and also ran a defragment. My media player disappeared but could be accessed through “my music” in my documents clicking on a track opened the media player. During my clean-up I removed restore points but one from the day before remained, I restored and the media player has reappeared but still will not play all the tracks in my library. I can however play tracks that wont play in media player by going to “my music” (the track then opens and plays in media player even though it has just refused to play in media player) If I then select another track in media player the message “ A number of queued files cannot be played. To find information about the problem, click the Now Playing tab, and then click the icon next to each file in the List pane.” When I click on the blue icon it asks me if I want to delete missing track. I know the all tracks are still on my computer (in my music file) please help me to get my media player going. I am on xp. Thanks in advance

This has been determined to happen when your Rip path is unavailable/gone.  If you use Manage Libraries I think within the player or within Explorer, that should allow you to delete the bogus location out of your Libraries and thus fix this up.

This subject was discussed starting in October of 2010 between danfordan and longhair but it didn't seem to come to a conclusion. The original writer said he was having trouble using CD-RW's. I am having trouble using regular cd-r's. My system numbers are listed below. The first time I used the Windows Media Player to make a CD everything went great. I loaded the CD, dragged the four files containg 25 songs in each and made a great data cd with 100 oldies. When I tried to do it again a few days later to make a copy for a friend, the files were burned in the following order.....1,2,3,4,1,2,4,3 and I had 200 songs on the CD, 100 songs TWICE! Thinking this was a fluke, I tried it again using a different file. I used 279 different oldies totalling 660 mb's. When I burned it, all songs came up twice again. First of all, why is it burning twice and secondly, how does 660 mb's burn twice on a 700 mb cd-r???
Thanks, Bobbyob

I want to be able to play my Ipod songs on Windows Media Player. Even though I was able to when I opened the Ipod Control/Music Folder, the songs are out of order and labeled with these weird letters and numbers.
So how can my ipod songs be labeled and organized(like they are itunes) in order play them on the Windows Media Player?
I'd deeply appreciate the feedback.

I burned a disk of various songs with Windows Media Player, and then removed the songs from the computer. I would now like to put those songs BACK on my computer (using Windows Media Player) so I could put some on my mp3 player. However, when I open Windows Media Player and put the disk in the drive, I am not given the option to rip the songs. That option just doesn't appear. Oddly enough, a list of the songs on the disk appears on the right in the "list" area so the disk is being read. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Of course they were listed as unknown in Media Player. I went into Explorer and changed the album name. But the change didn't show up in Media Player.

I have a couple of questions about this. How can I make the change I made in Explorer show up in Media Player? Can I add information when I rip?

Thanks,

Does anyone know how to Extract the songs themselves? I have tried playing around in explorer and stuff but for the life of me, I can't figure it out.

The playlist contains certain songs from a ton of different albums, and I don't have the time to go and pick them individually out of each album to burn.

I purchased a new Cowon S9 Portable Media Player, and the software provided for me to update it with new music (which was JetAudio) will not correctly play MP3 files that have been burnt onto the system from a CD. The CD's are obviously legit and will play perfectly in iTunes and work on an iPod no problem. But the case is for JetAudio and Windows Media Player the files do not even show up in the player library and if dragged and dropped straight into the file path of the Cowon MP3 player's memory, this has the same result and no mp3 files will show. Does anyone know why this may be?

Well folks, not sure what I did, but I managed to duplicate all the songs in my Windows 7 Media Player. I have a three week old laptop with Windows 7; really struggling with file management and layout in "libraries", that is, easily accessing my music, some guitar software files, etc.; somehow I installed my music folder onto the WMP again . Anyone know how I can reverse this situation, so I don't have to go through every album and delete? Also, I have "test deleted" a couple of songs from the WMP library, and they are also deleted from the original file. I have selected "delete from library only" from the manage menu, but they appear to have disappeared completely. Baby steps please, as Windows 7 has me really spooked... I miss XP! Thanks to all in advance.

A:duplicate songs in Windows 7 Media Player

Thanks for your suggestion! I did find the problem, I had a duplicate music folder (all my songs) within the original music folder containing all my songs. Once I deleted the original file, the duplicate songs in the library disappeared. I suspect I may have inadvertently dragged it in there, as I have a very sensitive touch pad, and I am still getting used to it (always been a mouse guy). Have been using the tutorials on the Microsoft site, and that has also been helpful. Thanks again for trying to help!

Hi all - Windows Media Player 12 - Windows 7 x64

So I have decided to delete several un-listened-to songs from my library on WMP 12, and ended up doing so in the Music folder, because when I right-click on the song in WMP 12 and select Delete, nothing happens. Literally NOTHING - no lag, freeze or crash -
it just ignores the fact that I even clicked delete. The songs that I deleted from the Music folder have not been updated, that is, they aren't gone from WMP 12, and I have tried to delete songs that ARE in my Music folder from WMP 12, but to no avail. I can
still play songs that are in my Music folder directly from WMP 12. Any suggestions!?

I d/l some songs that were playing just fine on WMP for a while until I tried to install Yahoo Music Engine. YME didn't completely install because it encountered some sort of problem. Now when I try to play them on WMP, it says it needs a security update, but then encounters error code 800C2F78. The Microsoft Web site only says it's investigating the problem, it's not on it's list of common error codes. We're talking about a lot of songs that I paid a buck apiece for. The songs that I ripped from CDs play just fine, it's only the ones I d/l.

let me be a bit more specific. i have a 56" tv hooked up to my computer in a room with lots of lights etc... thats not the point. we host large dance parties and what i have done in the past is played music videos on the tv and then when we switched to a normal song i would have to turn on a visualization in itunes or whatever i was using. what i want to do is this:

1. create a playlist that has all my videos and songs in it shuffled (not hard i can do it in itunes and winamp)

2. (tricky part) i want the player to play music videos and when the program randomly goes to a song i want the video to switch to a visualization. that way i can setup everything and leave the computer alone all night.

now in winamp i can get it to go from a music video to a song and keep the visualization but not from a song to music video

does anyone know of a player that can do this for me? i hope i explained it correctly.

Hi,

Based on my research, .m4p files are also not supported by Windows Media Player.

However, if you would like to play these music in Windows Media Player, you may use certain applications to convert the files to .mp3 and check if it works.

The thread title's poorly worded, but I don't know how else to describe what I'm asking.

Is there any sort of media player (windows) that will load multiple songs into memory at once for playing so that the HDD won't have to turn on every time a new song is played? I'm asking from a battery life viewpoint; imagine you've got your laptop in the airport, doing some word processing and listening to music. Would it significantly increase battery life to load an entire playlist of songs into memory and just access the HDD once time in a few hours vs every 3 or 4 minutes? Just a question that popped into my head as I was falling asleep last night. Thanks!

I have Windows Vista Home Premium on a six month old Dell Notebook fairly well upgraded. All works well, but Windows Media Player does the strangest thing. When a song plays it skips or breaks up for a second or two in exactly the same spot with about 10 to 15 seconds to go in the song. And it does it song after song in exactly the same place....about 10 or 15 seconds from the end of the song.

I have tried emptying the music folder and restoring the songs. I turned off my spyware and virus programs. These same songs will play fine in Limewire library and playlists.

When the breakup starts I notice the CPU meter jumps from about 7% to 40 or 45% quickly. Is something interferring and if so what or is it the Media Player. Seems strange it is always in the exact same spot.

Now, i added the music from that drive to windows media player and now, when the computer backs up, i've got this error telling me some files were omitted (namely all the music) because they're on the same drive as the backup's destination.

I'm going to use WMP because it's already there (regardless of there being a million better choices of media players/managers) so don't bother suggesting otherwise.

My question is: is there any special folder i should avoid backing up so this error doesn't happen? (like the one that contains WMP database)

More info:
Event type: Warning
Source: Windows backup
Event ID: 4106

Thanks for your help =)

Edit: The backup's error window gave me a link to more information; it's actually the log file but it's in Spanish and while i'm not sure it would help, i'm sure it wouldn't hurt.

A:Error when backing up with windows media player songs in backup drive.

Windows won't let you backup files on the destination disk to the destination disk. It ain't gonna happen. Change the location of your music files or the disk you're using for backup. It's not good to use a backup disk for anything else anyway. The disk itself becomes less reliable because a write fault could destroy your backup. What's the point of having a backup if you're not using it as a backup?

I have Windows Vista. I synced cds onto my flash drive from a different computer so I could put them in my windows media player on this computer. When I try to play these certain songs, it says I can't play them. Error code C00D1197. It says that I can download a license migration to play the protected files, but then it says I have to download Microsoft® Windows Media Services" plug-ins for my Netscape toolbar, whatever that means! How do I do it, is it necessary, is it free? I think it would probably just be easier to rip the CD again, I guess. Please help me out!

I just downloaded windows media player 11 today. My computer uses Windows XP professional.
When I try to play songs that I got through musicmatch (now yahoo! music jukebox) it says:
license acquisition failed! unspecified error!

i can play the songs fine in the Yahoo! music jukebox player.

I could play them o.k. in the old WMP because musicmatch was one of the online stores. musicmatch is no longer one of the online stores in the new WMP 11.

Any suggestions on how to play the musicmatch songs in WMP 11? I like to use WMP 11 to listen to songs and sync them to my iRiver.

Thanks,
Mike

I never had a problem like this before, but now this! Even though my file paths never exceed the 260-characters limit on anything, when I try to drag and drop a file to copy, I get an unhelpful error stating otherwise.

The file path in this example would spell out as:
C:\Users\HoneycombAG\Videos\HoneycombAgent_backups\Steam\Dota 2\Lich Pinball (1888297990).mp4
which is only 93 characters, and nowhere close to 260 characters.

So, how do I get rid of these errors?

The newer Windows Media Players have different licensing policies and I encountered loads of problems with files that were already on my computer when I upgraded to WMP9/10. Restore your computer to before you installed Media Player 9/10 and this will allow you to transfer again. There are plenty of better players than WMP; ITunes 7 with it's "cover-flow" feature is awesome and it can be configured to up/download to any MP3 player as well. It uses the Quicktime player instead of WMP though.

Right, I have a ACER Aspire V5-531. The processor is Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU 967 @ 1.30GHz 1.30 GHz and it has a 64-bit operating system. Now all the technical bit is out of the way, I'll get to the problem. This laptop came with Dolby Advanced Audio and one day it randomly popped up saying; 'Unable to start the Dolby audio driver. Please restart the computer or reinstall the driver if the problem persists.' So, obviously the first thing I did was search the internet for a problem and all the solutions I could find said for me to uninstall and reinstall the driver... One problem; in the Devices and Maintenance section on the laptop, there is no such driver present, which I don't understand. So then I fully update windows and still the problem persists, nothing happened, so I found the download for the driver online and installed; nothing happened. I even asked windows to repair the driver itself, still the problem persists and nothing has changed. By this point I'm getting pretty annoyed because obviously windows media player wasn't playing video files because of this. The next thing I did was download Winmap media player and also VLC media player to see if I had the same issue on there. Winmap didn't even play video files so I uninstalled and VLC plays the video, but no audio. I presumed that this was due to the Dolby Digital issue. So, I then uninstalled the entire program and reinstalled it onto my laptop again and guess what? The problem is still there and I still get the... Read more

A big hello from a very cold Scotland everyone!!
Just read; http://forums.techguy.org/multimedia/986602-solved-help-windows-media-player.html
Pretty much have exactly the same issues but unfortunately mine aren't yet fixed and have not magically disappeared.

About a year ago, my computer (specifications below) started stuttering (just video, not audio)... unfortunately as a film buff and film student - to put it simply... it wasn't good. After a year of suffering I've sought help from what seems like the holy grail of technology gods - you lot!!

So here it is in brief; video stutters (only visually) when player avi's on every media player I have - real player, windows media player & divx. Plays fine for about 30 seconds, then stutters for about 7 and goes on and on in an continual loop of media player madness. In the year since this started, I've took my computer to PC World (other computer chain's are available ) twice and had it wiped fully and re-set both times. Brand-new... from scratch... the whole shabang. Yet still... stutter is there. Its possibly even got worse. I'm gonna say I get more stutters now than Colin Firth's oscar winning-perfomance.
Seriously... SERIOUSLY desperate from help!!! Anybody who has ANY advice/help please write back.
Many Thanks, Sophie
(P.S; oh, forgot to mention... she's an old girl this one. Hoping she's still got some life in her yet tho - this is the computer, not myself)

A:New & in desperate need for help to a year long stuttering media player issue!!

I can see 2 problems right off.
You only have 512MB memory, part of that used by the video card.
XP with it's service packs will use most of that.
That leaves very little memory for video and will cause it to swap out
to the page file on the hard drive, which would really slow it down.
On top of that,I am assuming windows is installed on the C drive.
It doesn't have much space left on it so the page file is probably
pretty fragmented, causing the hard drive to thrash around to read
the files, slowing it down even more.
It would probably help quite a bit to add another 512MB memory or
more, run disk cleanup and defragment the hard drive.
